GUS,
I laugh with you at how completely beside yourself you are in that video. That took serious stones on Jr’s part. Well done.

Pretty much everyone who put stock wither Clinton's came up a cropper, you were wondering why the russian markets were down, the problem down the road is they have to sell something others want to buy this is what happened in south east Asia in 97-98

Gentlejim

Haven’t heard that song in years, GUS.

GUS

I hear that all the time JIM.
Robin Zander, Cheap Tricks singer, is one of my 2 favorite Rock n Roll singers of all time. As reported, I've seen Cheap Trick over 70 times, I've been back stage 5 times, and Cheap has been backstage twice, where I was playing. WIERD HUH???
But my SON, played on stage with CHEAP TRICK. It is f'ing SURREAL, and it can never be taken away.
So Jim, how well did my boy play. How well did the 12 year old SON, handle the 10,000 peeps in the crowd after being put on the SPOT?????

GUS

Jim, I got ahead of myself, as I bloviated.
After the Cheap Trick show, we, my son and I, were invited backstage. Robin Zander, one of my 2 favorite rock singers of all time, approaches me. He's wearing a TAMPA RAYS jersey (he lives in Clearwater now, and he see's me and says. Pointing at me, he says.......YOUR KID'S GOT BALLS.
He hugged me and we laughed. Then I told him....after Jr. LEFT THE STAGE, a friend of mine in the crowd, approached me and said..... GUS JR, is going to get LAYED tonight. I told this to ZANDER, and he laughed so hard, he nearly fell down.

Gentlejim

Great story, GUS. I better go pretend I’m working on my taxes.

Took me a while to catch up today.

The last two days have been tiring with all the trolls. Kill-file got a workout. I defend their right to say what they want, but I exercise my right to exclude reading blithering idiots.

I hope that's not to harsh. I'm willing to listen to reasoned arguments, not sock puppets who come from some alternate universe.

GUS

jim nj, I'm going to hang with JIMMY BABJAK, from the SMITHEREENS, next THURSDAY. In WAUKEGAN.

jim nj

Gus,

Good for you. I assume you've followed them closely for years.

I'm not familiar with them, I think, but looking them up I see they're from Carteret in my home state.

From age 17, or so, I was captured by jazz and listened to that in my car and at home.

I was current with most rock and disco, cause I was big into clubbing in the 80's and 90's and saw lots of live Jersey bands.

In Bergen County and down the shore in Seaside Heights.

I've forgotten most of them, but I do remember the "Nerds."

http://the-nerds.com/

Forty years later they are still working the local circuit with a busy schedule.

There were so many good NJ club bands back then, that many of them went national. Springsteen and Bonjovi, obviously, but a great many others too.

And, of course, my hometown of Englewood was also the home of the hip-hop Sugar Hill recording studio.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Hill_Records_(hip_hop_label)

In my late teens I used to play softball with Dagal and Denny Bennet, Tony's sons.

And about a mile east of my home was the famous Rudy Van Gelder's recording studio.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Gelder_Studio

jim nj

Some day I'll post some of the history of Englewood. It's about 5 sq. mi. in area. In the 1850's the Erie Lackawanna built a railroad that traveled through Englewood to the Hoboken Station, where you could board a ferry into NYC.

That attracted Wall Street types that bought up huge tracts of land. Later, because of it's proximity to Broadway it attracted a lot of theater people, stars and craftspeople.

You need to look at Google Maps to understand this, but the eastern part of Englewood is called the East Hill because it climbs up the backside of the Palisades. Lower Englewood is Middle-Class, more or less, with an historically black quadrant.

To give you an idea about what the East Hill is like, although it's not all this expensive.

I give you the Gloria Swanson Estate.

http://homesoftherich.net/2012/12/the-39-million-gloria-crest-estate-in-englewood-nj/

Or Alicia Keys purchase of Eddie Murphy's property.

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/real-estate/alicia-keys-buys-eddie-murphy-12m-estate-article-1.1190475

Gentlejim

Jim,
I don’t understand how they get by with only 4 kitchens in the Swanson shack. :)

anonamom

I like Alicia's new digs.
Always been partial to Georgians w slate roofs.
Glad she can keep that going. Plenty of maintenance there.

She's a job creator!

jim nj

Gentlejim and anonamom,

Not all the properties on the East Hill are that expensive, some are only 2-8 million. Lower down on the hill 750k to 1M.

And that's why we had a large black population. Most blacks from the south, or for that matter, the north, took employment to serve the rich. Maids, gardeners, etc.

jim nj

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernarr_Macfadden

Also had an estate in Englewood. He put a dam across a brook behind his house to create a swimming pond.

He was a health nut. Had nude statues of he and his wife. The estate was empty for many years after his death.

Some people I knew stole the statues at the height of the Vietnam War, dressed them in clothes and lit them up on the city's football field. Called the cops and told them that there was an anti-war protest going on at the field and that people were immolating themselves.

Great fun watching the response.

Been rethinking what I said about Ryan being a nice guy:

Ryan will be a dickless wonder through the midterms and then give Trump the middle finger salute on his way out.

Ultimate in passive/agressive behavior.

Yet Ryan has said he and President Trump have developed a nice friendship over the course of their many interactions.

MM-I have suspected michelle malkin's work on the ed issue ever since she worked with glenn beck on that common core travesty program that was essentially its own data gathering operation.

Touting Cheri Kiesecker though is deeply troubling. Her work on the Student Data Privacy Toolkit had parents looking at precisely the wrong place and that initiative turned out to be funded by the prog Oakland-based Rose Foundation. That first brought her on my radar. Recently she has written about an ed initiative called Project Unicorn in an article so duplicitous in its interpretations that it could not be accidental. She bills herself as a 'scientist' by training but her background is actually ecology. Her husband is an exec with the Nature Conservancy.

At the core of how learning standards really work and what makes all this data mining tick is something called Bio_Ecological Systems Theory. The mind is the micro level of the theory and the Nature Conservancy for example wants regulation of more meso levels. None of this can be heard with all the false narratives rolling around. BEST is not really interested in personally identifiable information and can create its great neural rewiring mischief to get at that micro level with no PII involved.

That article is a reminder that chan zuckerburg is working with the national charter school network http://invisibleserfscollar.com/lucrative-deceit-managing-consciousness-by-conjoining-social-media-charter-schools/ and the federal money gets to keep rolling in to the same private coffers who fund so many of the think tanks only if parents never quite understand what the charters are doing that makes them so effective at 'learning'.

It's hard to get excited about neural rewiring around Ideas that are designed to be meaningful and compelling even though they are not actually true. What is crucial is this scenario is that they are fervently believed.

Buckeye

I think I trust the words of the actual person over speculation here at JOM.

Well, no doubt I am speculating about what is going to happen between now and the next Congress being seated, and I have every confidence that if I am wrong you will remind me Maryrose:)

Thank you for the background information on Malkin. I was familiar with her mostly from her immigration positions. She seems to have disappeared from television commentary over the last year or so.

Old Lurker

I think Maryrose's unrelenting attack mode, unsupported, and naive support for backstabbing Paul Ryan and clones like Kasich and the other jerks is creepy.

And THAT is a fact.

Appalled

Ryan's vision of the GOP and Trump's view of the GOP are very different, enough so that that Ryan was never going to be very good at presenting and defending Trump's agenda, and enough so that Trump supporting people (like the ones I read here) are always going to mistrust him and want him replaced. It's clear that the people who select GOP candidates like what Trump has to offer, and they have never really warmed up to what Ryan is selling.

What does a normal person do in this situation? Soldier on, and give themselves a lobotomy to get them through sleepless nights? Nope. They quit.

What Ryan is doing is honorable. The people I saw earlier (squaredance) suggesting that it was yet another betrayal of the always betrayed Donald Trump really have no patience with anyone opposing Trump. I, bluntly, worry about people who think like that.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

I have never warmed to Paul Ryan, even before his attack on Trump during the campaign.

It is probably a failing of my personality, but I just don't make a connection with him when he speaks.

That debate with Biden was a huge disappointment, too.

I am hoping for Steve Scalise as a replacement.

Captain Hate

I must defend my fellow Northeast Ohian on Katshit. I haven't seen her say anything nice about that whiffle headed goof since he showed his ass like a retarded baboon and didn't attend the 2016 party convention at which maryrose volunteered her time.

Old Lurker

MM, that debate performance, looking back knowing all that we know now, supports the notion that the Uniparty, GOPe Wing, never really wanted to win. We saw the same from Romney and McCain both when they blew the big games.

Then his nearly Weekly Standard level opposition to Trump before the election fits that narrative.

Finally, nobody will convince me that he supports Trump or the MAGA Agenda even now but knows how to pretend just enough to fool the suckers.

Don't let me get started on his partner in crime, Mitch McConnell.

Porchlight

No, that's The Crown.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

The thing that has always bugged me is that they pushed the free trade canard long after it was obvious it was hurting American industry and workers.

The glib "retrain for computers" solution was insulting, when you're dealing with coal miners and steelworkers who worked with their hands, at times at great personal risk.

I don't think Ryan became as much a friend of the President as he finally realized he was outmatched and might as well go home. Trump was very gracious in his comments and to those who accuse him of being undisciplined, I would point out that you and I would have had much sterner words to say.

I never really got over Ryan's outright attacks on the President prior to the election. I considered that the worst sort of treachery and virtue-signaling, and I still remember how angry I was.

Like I said, Steve Scalise would be my choice. I see Kevin McCarthy is considering running too, but I think that would be more Ryan stuff. Scalise knows that the dems are the enemy, since one shot him.

Appalled,
If one starts with the Alfred E Newman worldview you do then Ryan is behaving honorably.
If one starts with the worldview others do that our freedoms and self governance are seriously under siege from the relentless "progress" of the progs and the attendant metastasis of the state then his feckless acquiescence to that cancer and phony lip service to fighting it in any appreciable way is about as dishonorable as politicians get. And it long predates Trump's election, so stop the specious misdirection.
Ryan hasn't betrayed Trump nearly so much as he has his constituents and the political philosophy he claims to hold.
He's not just bad at his job, he didn't even try to do it.

Haven’t heard that song in years, GUS.

Attend MORE HOCKEY GAMES!!! Here in the "D", "Raise A Little Hell" is played at every DRW home game. So is Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", where they sing about "South Detroit" which is really Windsor, Ontario, Canuckistan.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights hosted their first NHL Playoff Game in franchise history last night. Seeing that this is their FIRST SEASON, I would say that is pretty damn good. The Openings to the Stanley Cup Playoffs are usually over the top, but LVGK went above and beyond - as should be expected there. They beat the LA Kings 1-0, even though it was a low scoring game, it was plenty eventful. This ought to be a great series, hope the Kings Are Dead, Long Live The Knights at the end. Gerrard Gallant is their coach, had the pleasure of watching him don a DRW Winged Wheel for a time, a class act in my book.

Elsewhere (All Home Teams Won):

The Pen-GOONS beat the snot out of the Flyers 7-0, the Flyers looked lost on the ice, and their main goalie leaks pucks like a sieve. Cry-Baby scored a Hat-Trick and can actually grow facial hair now.

The Jets skimmed past the Wild 3-2, the Jets were wearing Green Ribbons in honor of the Humboldt Broncos (who lost their 16th person yesterday from the Bus Crash). This was the Jet's First Stanley Cup Appearance and Win!

You think the status quo has and is destroying basic liberties. I think your view encourages and elects people who are intent on destroying basic liberties. It's little wonder we sometimes see each other as having become deranged. Thing is, we are probably both right to some extent -- I think y'all have the FBI's number, for example.

As for Ryan, he uses my glasses, not yours, and probably thought he was doing his best to deliver on his promises. To the extent he encouraged your Flight 93 view of things, he blew off his own foot. He's doing the right thing by getting out of the way now, regardless of the glasses you wear.

Nope, they deserved to win after 2008.

The DRW's shut them out the first 2 home games in 2008 in the Stanley Cup Finals. A clinic was put on, one where I was 2 and 3 rows from the glass in Section 105 (where on the ice did Nick Lidstrom play again?). They were not just talking to themselves during and after those two games, even their tears were crying to themselves.
