Happy Easter, TM and thans for giving us this warm nook to play in. https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/292875/ How the immigrant horder heading our way is bad news for the Democrats.
I was there in 1963 in Louisville for that horrible 15pt. lead collapse.
I lived in the same dorm as Tony Yates, Tom Thacker and Paul Hogue. An Amazing team that won the two previous national championships agains Jerry Lucas' Ohio State, without Oscar Robertson who graduated in 1960.
And since I am opining about a number of things today, allow me to talk about the whole "households have fewer guns" stuff.
The whole business of tracking guns in this country is completely whacked. The number that the media uses consistently is 300 million to 380 million guns. The big problem with this number is, that as far as I can tell, it dates to the assault weapons ban under the Clinton Administration, so from about twenty years ago. Thus, it completely misses out on any guns bought during the tail end of the Clinton years, the Bush years, and the Obama years. Just from the Obama years, if I remember the numbers correctly, they averaged about 20,000,000 background checks a year for eight years. Of course, not all background checks result in a firearm being purchased, and sometimes multiple purchases are made with a single check, but it is still a useful number to use. If we assume that there is approximately a 1-1 correlation between checks and gun purchases, then there were about 160,000,000 new guns bought during the Obama years. That doesn't count Bush/Clinton numbers, which are not that much lower. So, as best I can tell, this 300,000,000 number is likely only half of the actual guns among households, and it is quite possible that the number is much higher, possibly three times that number. Another thing that they completely miss out on is the "80% lower receiver" phenomenon. This is where someone buys a hunk of metal in the shape of an AR-15 or .45 ACP lower reciever (that is the part of the gun that is a "gun" according to the BATFE. Once you have a lower receiver, you can order all the other parts of the gun through the mail freely and not have anyone do any checking on you), and you finish it yourself into a usable firearm. These pieces of metal are designed so that they can be finished using simple hand tools like a drill press. The point of this is that it is LEGAL to buy one of these "80% lowers" and finish them yourself, if it is legal for you to own a gun, and there is no record of the firearm anyplace. Someone I know has about a dozen of the things in his garage, and could finish them up in a couple of days if the situation came about. They are completely untraceable, unless the NSA notices you buying gun parts over the internet. Of course, you can always go to the local gun store and buy the parts and pay cash, build your gun, and then you own a completely legal firearm with no records whatsoever.
These things have been selling like hotcakes for about eight or ten years. No one has any idea how many have been sold or how many people bought them and finished them into AR-15s or whatever, but it is highly likely that there are millions of undocumented, fully functional firearms out there and no one has a clue to their existence.
As far as households reporting guns, all the people I know who own guns deny having them to anyone who asks. Some people I know have gone so far as to report their weapons stolen to the police and then hide them somewhere around the house.
Contrary to the "only gunners are buying more guns" narrative, anecdotal data (ha! I made a computer science funny!) indicates that the people who teach gun handling have spoken for years about increasing numbers of women and minorities showing up at their classes to learn about guns. It is obviously impossible to know without actual surveys and such, but the general agreement among the 2A activists I know is that gun ownership is increasing rapidly.
Basically, you can't trust anything you read in the newspaper or see on the television, but especially can't trust a word they say about guns. I can say all this because I have no stake in this argument. I used to have some guns, but I lost them all many years ago in a boating accident in a very deep lake in Idaho.
Back from Easter with my family. My great nephews in Cincinnati(pre-school age) got driving caps and fake mustaches so they could look like my brother, their grandpa and idol. Hilarious pictures!
Ny niece is worried because the neighborhood where her condo is is changing, with a lot more robberies and shootings. The condo has dropped in value to the point where she is underwater on her mortgage, and she has lived there for 7 years.
Sisters all in good shape, everyone in jolly humor, great time!
I don't know how the democrats are going to solve their problem with those Reagan democrats (which Captain Hate reminded us we were told were mythical by the GOPe "experts") because all of their donors are pushing the things those people hate: immigration liberalization, feminism, globalization, etc.
My nephew the art teacher has a big project going on which he got a grant for from the rich big-shots in the small town where he teaches.
The requirements were strict, but what he did was have a poet come for two days and work with the kids, then a storyteller for two days.
The kids each produced writing based on what they learned, and then those pieces will be assembled into a book and also used for a professional artist to do a mural on a very long blank concrete-block wall within the school.
The poet read to them a poem she had written called "My coat of Happiness" and then asked the kids to imagine what coat they themselves would put on. He said the poems were quite good for elementary aged kids but one poem although good was disturbing. It was titled "Every Morning I Put on My Coat of Fear."
He said it was so disturbing they got a social worker involved to check on the child. He said he wanted to be sure she was ok because so many live in single parent families, or with grandparents because both parents are in prison for drugs, etc.
We have so many troubled families -- I wish more could be done to solve that problem.
Miss M, the assumption is the Reagan Dems vote the way the union tells them to vote.
For example, the guy next door (rural version of next door) is a union guy, veteran (armorer), that builds hot rods. His garage machine shop can build those things mentioned above from blank stock (Army trained). He had a Hillary sign in his yard (the "for prison" one). He has many friends just like him. The union does tell him who to vote for, it's not clear to me he follows those instructions.
I don't either, MM--And it will be interesting how they expect to capitalize on the horde at the border--I expect this is a Soros special which they hoped to capitalize on and now may find it works against them.
I know, because my brother is a retired union electrician. However, he is a hereditary democrat because my father was a dem, and he just spouts the party line. However, he's also 62 and not much of one to think about politics except at election time.
On the other hand, my nephew, who is a union ironworker, is a fervent Trump supporter who has listened to Rush for years.
If I had to guess, I would bet that those Reagan democrats are younger on average than the ones who follow the party line, at least in certain trades. Also, I can bet that the United Mine Workers pretty much support Trump, and if I remember, even their officials did.
What's interesting about this is that the GOPe is every bit as snooty as the far left dems (the ones who are on Twitter telling Trump supporters they are ignorant racists and such).
Why would you write off a huge swath of potential voters? Trump had enough sense to even ask the black voters for support ("What have you got to lose?") The Top Men didn't even want to try. How is it anyone gives these people consulting money?
Anybody watching CBS? They're just finishing a show about the 50th anniversary of the Houston/UCLA game, the first nationally televised game ever. I don't know when this was filmed but it has to have been one of the last appearances by Dick Enberg who died in December.
On a more personal note, I was once on a flight from Cleveland to BWI with Elvin Hayes, who looks really old compared to his old teammate Don Chaney now. I was walking back to my seat when I saw this hunched over big guy in first class and thought he looked real familiar but couldn't figure why the Big E would be there. As it turned out the stupid airline lost both our luggage so I was behind him to make a claim. I didn't have nearly as big of a mouth then as I do now, but he was *really* tall and seemed like a nice guy.
So Charles stross the Scottish polymath anarchist has been doing alt universe tales fir a while now, the latest which is dark state, it concerns three alternate worlds, the most intricate is one where the French conquered the UK and ultimately parts of Russia, there was no American revolution, the French revolution was not as violent, a resurgent Britain comes to challenge this Gaelic power.
What's interesting about this is that the GOPe is every bit as snooty as the far left dems (the ones who are on Twitter telling Trump supporters they are ignorant racists and such).
Why would you write off a huge swath of potential voters?
Good question. A better question is, why would any candidate who wants to, you know, actually win, keep paying big money to the consultants who advise them to write off all those voters?
Because I think it’s a safe bet that plenty of candidates - in both parties - are going to go right on doing precisely that later this year and in2020 and beyond.
Yeah, that's why I said it was too much 4d even for me, but what a great plot line for a movie. (Sort of like a political version of "The Sting.")
However, I am glad Wictor put it out there because one never knows how much paranoia can be induced in the dem ranks, which works just fine for me if they suspect each other. :-)
Got home from a great trip to East Tennessee via Columbus. It’s always so fantastic to escape the Ithaca bubble of blue and meet the rest of the deplorables.
Catching up here has taken forever even with yesterday’s 13 hour drive.
Skoot - thanks for the many threads back shout out re the ISS passing over my neck of the woods. It is a given that anytime there is a worthwhile celestial event it will be cloudy here. But we don’t develop glaucoma!

a little too out there. The administration and our elites will not only cave but grovel.
Ex-
the caravan are the human shields-they learned the lessons from last time. When the invasion armies are being filmed, it is best to actually have women and small children in the pictures. The actual invasion army is trailing behind them.
Happy Easter all! Snow here in Nebraska so the church egg hunt was conducted indoors and there was talk of snow bunnies. My friend and I put off our annual hot dog hunt for the dogs till next Sunday (this is conducted along the lines of an egg hunt, but now, given the age of the three involved, includes my son running around and showing the dogs where the hot dogs are); next Sunday is the Orthodox Easter (anyhow).
Lamb for dinner (my husband is cooking and he's very good). So having finished the taxes (can ladies spit?), I can catch up on you all.
Such good news, sbw--plaudits to you and your wife.
Forgot to add that I told my daughter today that when it finally gets hot, I am NOT running the air conditioning. I want to be hot and SWEAT. I am sick of being cold.
I am sitting here right now with a small space heater running next to me. My arthritis is aggravated by damp cold, and it seems that is all we have had since October
I have no idea what is going to happen when the reported Illegal Army arrives at the Border and demands entry, but I can bet that thousands of TV Camera's will be there and I wouldn't be surprised if Pope Che' shows up and demands to be the first to walk across the border without papers.
I think its going to be a tough problem for Trump in a TV age Miss Marple. No easy solutions, and even if he has the wisdom of Solomon in resolving it the Media and the Left won't give him anything but unending criticism no matter what he does.. I fail to see any Judas Goats leading that inhumane gaggle---all I see as parade leaders are those intent on generating strife and chaos for America.
The easy solution in a no win situation is to appeal to your fan base instead of the world.
Shut down all legal ports of entry on the southern border immediately while this is still Mexico's problem. Start plucking high level visa holders and ambassadors from every country represented in the north bound swarm and explain that their expulsion from the US will be swift and permanent if any one of the invaders sets foot on our soil.
Indeed there are TV people already there, and I am sure they have pre-recorded their stories about the sad children and oppressed mothers and the rest.
However, I am encouraged that the President has been paying attention and is not being blind-sided by this. I am also encouraged by him calling out Mexico on this. We will see what happens.
Miss M, there will be TEEVEE celebritards embedded with the pooooor pooooor refugees. Jorge Ramos will have on his sombrero, and this will go over like a fart in church.
The only way is to have a line of baton-wielding Border Patroll agents form a cordon and wall off the invaders. Unfortunately, that's where the Soros human shields come in.
In 2016, Mr. Mansfield continues, Mr. Trump won “a majority of white women—and women are attracted to manly men, I think.” He agrees that there’s a connection between the campaign for gender-neutrality in the U.S.—seeking, as he sees it, to erase all differences between the sexes—and the “hunger” that made Mr. Trump’s political rise possible.
In Mr. Mansfield’s view, Mr. Trump’s success wasn’t a racial reaction to President Obama as much as a backlash in favor of masculinity. Mr. Obama “had the scolding demeanor of a schoolmarm—very much, I think, following the temper of today’s feminists. It’s all a matter of correcting the behavior of misbehaving juveniles, and of condescension.” Here, he checks himself, allowing that this observation “is a little unfair to Obama, because some of his speeches were pretty good, and he did have a vision of America and the way America ought to be.” But it was not an America that “throws its weight around. That’s precisely what he wanted to avoid. So, in his foreign policy, and in his domestic role as condescender-in-chief, he showed his hostility to manliness.”
Mr. Trump saw the electoral opportunity. “Trump’s not a clever man,” Mr. Mansfield says, by which he means that the president has little propensity for abstraction or intellectual complication. “But he’s shrewd. He saw that there was a way to be appealing, and to knock off the competition of his rivals in the Republican Party, by a display of manliness and an attack on political correctness.” Mr. Trump is “really the first American politician to use that, to see that there was a political opening there.”
How close is the bandito parade? Have a couple agents dress up as "migrants" and stage a thorough beatdown and haul off of them in front of the invaders.
I can't wait for the FULL COMMIE PARTY to meet and greet the "refugees". Trump should go to the border and have an ice cream cone, as he looks across at the "migrants". It gets worse and worse and worse. The COMMIES don't even pretend any more. They are aiding and abetting, an ENDANGERING these people. Where did Hondurans get the idea that they can arrive at our border an be let in??
I think I'll start a list of the welcoming committee........Tom Potty Mouth Perez, Luis Gutierrrrrrrrrez, Xavier Becerra,......
This migrant army's march is only possible through Mexico's permission and assistance.
If Trump follows form, he'll assign responsibility for the army's passage to Mexico and tighten the screws until they make the 'army' go away before it reaches our border.
Jr. made it to dinner after all. I mentioned your comment about seniority not making much difference in who gets the holiday duty.
He laughed and said that he was at OSU East today (east of downtown in the 'hood) working the cardiac floor. Said he needed a pulmonary consult and the doc that gave him a hand is the head of the hospital.
This REFUGEE STUNT has already backfired.
Who has changed their mind about closing our border because of this. If we DO NOT close our border, we'll have MORE of this NOT less.
Well I don't know what Trump's going to do with the invading Army of Illegals but it reminds me of the scam Obama pulled off re: the illegals held by the Australians on some off shore island. Obama cut some secret deal with their current doofus of a Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, to take these illegals off Australia's hands and as I recall once Trump got elected and found out about it he was max pissed, but studied it and acquiesced: US to honor Australia refugee deal Trump called ‘dumb’
Vice President Pence said Saturday that the U.S. will honor an agreement with Australia to take in as many as 1,250 refuges, even though President Trump called it a “dumb” deal from the Obama era.
Maybe Trump can reciprocate by shipping this new illegal Army to the Australians since they always pretend they're tons more full of compassion than we Americans are.
sbw, congratulations and best wishes for your wife's continued recovery.
Regarding taking a pass on fish oils, I too have tried 'em, and don't like 'em. You might find flax seed oil capsules a good substitute for Omega 3. I usually take two 1000mg caps daily. They're huge, so a smaller product might be desirable for you.
Odd how no Army's of illegals walk to the Socialist paradise of Venezuela.
Reading that unbelievably horrid prose linked by Capt Hate a few days back from Sean Penn's new novel, the stupidity and incoherence of his sentences reminded me that numbskull Penn was a huge fan of Hugo Chavez's paradise:
“Whenever he felt these collisions of incubus and succubus, he punched his way out of the proletariat with the purposeful inputting of covert codes, thereby drawing distraction through Scottsdale deployments, dodging the ambush of innocents astray, evading the viscount vogue of Viagratic assaults on virtual vaginas, or worse, falling passively into prosaic pastimes.”
It also reminded me that big mouth, platform shoes wearing, tough guy, Robert DeNiro, was and has been one of Penn's best buddies for a couple decades now.
It is an indication of how stupid DeNiro is that he hangs around with such an ignoramus.
I couldn't take fish oil capsules without my esophagus feeling like a fish ladder, letting them back up. I started calling them fish guts pills.
Spring Valley krill oil on the other hand gives me no problem whatsoever.
It was a couple of years ago, they even made the studios Pfizer, played by josh brolin a sympathetic fellow, which is quite a bit of acting on his part. They cast him well as thanes.
There is liquid fish oil available for those not fond of those horse pills.
sbw, re dosing--what I remember reading when Barry Sears was taking care of the miner was to increase the dose til stool get loose, then back down from that til it normalizes.
KK likely knows better than I. ;-)
Lots of vegetables and bone broth too. "Let food be thy medicine."
I'm not an advocate of drinking food (smoothies) , but one can glug down a whole salad in a minute if you have blender or one of those bullet things, and mixed greens on their own or with some cucumber and celery tastes like--a salad. Not so bad. Really don't need to throw in the sugary fruit that so often are part of the recipes I see.

However, I am glad Wictor put it out there because one never knows how much paranoia can be induced in the dem ranks, which works just fine for me if they suspect each other. :-)

No easy solutions, and even if he has the wisdom of Solomon in resolving it the Media and the Left won't give him anything but unending criticism no matter what he does.. Posted by: GUS | April 01, 2018 at 06:28 PM
Posted by: Threadkiller | April 01, 2018 at 06:29 PM
daddy,
Indeed there are TV people already there, and I am sure they have pre-recorded their stories about the sad children and oppressed mothers and the rest.
However, I am encouraged that the President has been paying attention and is not being blind-sided by this. I am also encouraged by him calling out Mexico on this. We will see what happens.

What I said about women IRT alpha guys a while back--this guy agrees:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/manhood-in-the-age-of-trump-1522443770

Posted by: Threadkiller | April 01, 2018 at 06:50 PM
I can't wait for the FULL COMMIE PARTY to meet and greet the "refugees". Trump should go to the border and have an ice cream cone, as he looks across at the "migrants". It gets worse and worse and worse. The COMMIES don't even pretend any more. They are aiding and abetting, an ENDANGERING these people. Where did Hondurans get the idea that they can arrive at our border an be let in??

Posted by: GUS | April 01, 2018 at 07:04 PM
This migrant army's march is only possible through Mexico's permission and assistance.
If Trump follows form, he'll assign responsibility for the army's passage to Mexico and tighten the screws until they make the 'army' go away before it reaches our border.
Probably happening right now.

It makes me wonder how much Obama was paid for his secret speech in Sydney last week after meeting with Turnbull.
Maybe Trump can reciprocate by shipping this new illegal Army to the Australians since they always pretend they're tons more full of compassion than we Americans are.
