http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/381683-sessions-credits-trump-with-stopping-migrant-caravan

"The president was clear that this caravan needed to be stopped before it arrived at our southern border, and his efforts now appear to be successful," Sessions said in a statement released by the Justice Department.
Old Lurker

If. If. If.

I think that is the shortest word I have come to hate since Bill Clinton turned me against "is".

NOBODY, not even silver tongued RG or the most loyal of Trumpsters here, has a good outcome for the Swamp Coup that does not start with "If".

I'm sick and tired of having to hold tea leaves up to the sun while dancing on the head of a pin to figure out where our Republic is headed.

I voted for Trump because he promised on TV that "she would be in jail" and even if that was just a bumper sticker, it was a placeholder for "that shit stops now".

Months and months later and after spending millions of dollars, there are as many citizens who think it more likely that Trump will go to jail before Hillary ever does.

But we do have $21 Trillion in debt and the biggest dumbest Omnibus Spending Law nobody read before voting it into law.

And that's a fact.

And that's a fact that makes it hard to explain why anybody should get out of bed in the midterms to give these jerks their powers back.

The f**king Dems can have the House for all I care and waste two years impeaching Trump because the House under GOP control sucks just as bad and neither one of them will do anything anyway. At least I am allowed to hate Pelosi and the Dems...but for some reason we are supposed to love love love the likes of Ryan, McConnell and the other losers.

Yea, Trump has done good things and could have been a contender, but he ran on three or four very simple things and delivered none of them in time for the midterms.

IF that changes, I will take that back, but there is that damn word "IF" again.

I am still laughing at GUS' simple post hours ago about "Rosenstein working for Trump, right".
By what evidence?

Tom R

A review of the similarities between the Trump Dossier/Russia accusations and how we were led to believe there were WMD's in Iraq.

Same UK intelligence agencies, and Christopher Steele was involved with both.

I first started lurking on this site back when Plamegate was in the news. Based on what we know now about how the progressives have weaponized the DOJ/FBI and use it like the KGB to spy on political opponents, I am now inclined to believe the "Deep State" has been around for a lot longer than I thought and that they have been doing some seriously F'ed up things over the years to advance their progressive agenda.

Considering the fact that Tenet was a Democrat and Brennan was his deputy, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the progressives in the Deep State intentionally fabricated most, if not all, of the intel that they give to Bush Jr about Saddam's WMDs. They intentionally did this because they planned to backstab Bush Jr after the invasion and promote the "Bush lied about WMDs" false narrative all in the hopes of electing the first Communist as president in John Kerry. When that failed Obama became Plan B.

Thomas Collins

So Flynn, Papadop, Manafort, Gates et al are being subjected to harassment and financial ruin as a cover for Trump's chess game? I think it's far more likely that a prosecutorial team (Team Mueller) composed of people whose backgrounds indicate they would be anti-Trump is operating to harm Team Trump.

At what point should it be concluded that Team Mueller is not a Trump feint? October of 2018? November of 2020? Is there a date on which the grand plan will be unveiled and Hillary and Rice and McCabe and Comey et al will be arraigned? One doesn't need to be on The Ledge to realize this is not a feint, but a slog.

I don't even think there will be indictments at the Strzok/Page level. However, I am an optimist, because I think the stuff coming out on The Swamp will cool impeachment ardor. That's what I consider to be the position of the optimist.

I'm always happy to hear arguments in support of the 4-D chess position. I just hope my friends here who are inclined to that position don't become too discouraged when it becomes even clearer that mud wrestling or demolition derby are the more appropriate analogies.

clarice feldman

why was that,mm? Maybe because he had the components, the talent and even his generals believed he had them.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

What do you mean he hasn't delivered?

Tax cuts

Streamlining government through ending regulations

Tightening border security and beginning of a wall

Defeating ISIS

Reclaiming our manufacturing industry starting with energy, steel, and aluminum

Ending the Obamacare mandate

Appointing a conservative Supreme Court Justice

Getting out of the Paris Accord and the TPP

Renegotiating NAFTA

That isn't exactly nothing. And he's done it in a year and a half.

Dave (in MA)

TC, worse than a rickroll.

Old Lurker

I'm here for you, TC.

Somebody has to stake out my end of the Bell Curve.

There is room for optimism about whether the Deep State will be revealed to the public. After all. Teddy Kennedy and Chappaquiddick hits the big screen, after only 49 tears.

maryrose

TC:
Very well stated.
I for one was so sure Libby would be cleared in the Plame matterRemember how shocked we all were when he wasn’t.
That is why I don’t have my hopes about all these criminals going to jail.
I will settle for bankruptcy and loss of income as a good enough punishment.
Oh and public ridicule.

GUS

Old Lurker, I was being facetious. Rosenstein hired a McCain dude. He's in the tank.
Take care.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

ALSO, Old Lurker,

You may not care if the dems get the House back, but I sure as hell do, because Nancy Pelosi just telegraphed re-doing the tax cuts, which as you know, means repealing them and replacing them with some progressive horse manure which will bankrupt my kids.

AND, I for one am sticking by the man who risjed his business, fortune, family and life to run and take the presidency back from the incompetent and evil people on both sides of the aisle.

The least I can do is vote for the party that wouldn't impeach him. The man deserves our support for that much. In fact, this administration is full of people of remarkable courage, given what they are up against.

Do what you want. I support the President, who is doing a damn fine job.

maryrose

Should be hopes up

Old Lurker

I knew that, Gus. It was just too good to pass up, not because you fell for it because you never would, but because other good people, while dancing on the head of that pin, can still pretend he wears a white hat. Bullshit. Nobody wearing a white hat would give a John McCain (he who sends an emissary to London to carry the Dossier back to Comey) shill the time of day, much less a high powered job. I read that at 6AM this morning and have been steaming ever since.

Old Lurker

Nancy Pelosi can send as many tax bills up the chain as she likes, MM. They don't become law unless the Senate passes them and the President signs them.

Among the things I am sick and tired of is being pressured to vote for losers because of X or Y when even when we do, we get X and Y both.

Thanks you for giving me permission to do what I want. I too support the President. I DO NOT think he is doing a damn fine job.

Porchlight

I have no time for anyone who would give power back to the Dems. Eff that. Reminds me of the "a pox on both their houses" attitude that helped Obama win twice and helped Hillary get way too close to comfort.

Porchlight

Too close FOR comfort....sorry you now need eyebleach.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

All I meant was that I wasn't going to go on a long-winded effort to change your mind.

I hope you will eventually see things my way, due to events which have yet to unfold.

Time for a glass of wine on the Veranda. :-)

Old Lurker

And that attitude, Porch, is why Obama and Clinton supporters will vote for them from their graves. You sound exactly like them, just with another name as the object.

I do say a pox on both houses which will vote for their pop stars just because they are their pop stars.

The sooner that pox kills off all the politicians who sell snake oil and lies but never ever do what they said they will do, the better we will be and the sooner sanity and reason can take root in the land. Pox on both houses indeed.

Extraneus

The thing is, Sessions vouches for Rosey. Is that a feint? Fantasy?

Look again at this picture.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Let me quote the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia for some actual words of wisdom:

"Sometimes you don't get to choose between a good or bad choice; sometimes the choice is between a bad choice or a worse choice."

Is Paul Ryan a weasel? Yes. Is Nancy Pelosi worse by a magnitutde of thousands? Yes.

So, I would rather deal with the weasel than the Cthulu-tentacled, soul-eating destructor.

Old Lurker

Ext, with the news of the hiring of the McCain guy, I call fantasy on all of those dreams so many here enjoy.

henry

Ext, that pic is a face shown when you learn your date has the wrong equipment. Sessions may be getting educated on things swamp. If so his learning curve is too gradual.

Old Lurker

MM, many think a weasel is a cute furry animal.

Paul Ryan (and Mitch McConnell) are every bit as dangerous to the republic as are Pelosi and Schumer...exactly because one thinks they are on our side when they are not in the least. At least we know Pelosi and Schumer are enemies. I'd bet you $100 that if the House could vote by secret ballot, Ryan will vote to impeach and McConnell will vote to convict.

Tom R

Old Lurker is starting to sound like Ann Coulter and her rants about the border wall. Trump could come up with a plan that results in global world peace but if Hillary, Obama and several other Obama officials don't get indicted ASAP then Trump isn't doing what he promised to do.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

Quite possibly. But they do NOT vote by secret ballot, and those Kentucky coal miners would march on McConnell's Georgetown home with pitchforks and torches, and I am not kidding. I worked for a mining company back in the 70's, and I KNOW those guys.

There is a reason that President Trump is going to West Virginia tomorrow to have a panel discussion on how the tax cuts have helped businesses and families. He's marshaling his forces.

I was looking at the archives and came across a comment I made in which I said in June of 2016 that I thought Trump was realigning the parties, and indeed, I believe that is what we are seeing. Some can't take it and are retiring. Some are trying to fight it, And some are fully on board.

Right now I am trying to decide who to run for Senate on the GOP side against Donnelly, who I want defeated. My choices are two representatives, Todd Rokita and Luke Messmer, or a Trump-supporting business owner, Doug Braun. I am inclined to the latter unless he turns out to be a nut case.

maryrose

I am happy with what President Trump has done so far.McConnell and Ryan would never turn on this President because it doesn’t serve their interests.
His force zone keeps them in power.
Some of these Dems are going to die in the next couple of years.
We need to get busy and recruit good candidates who know how to raise money and with positive re-election possibilities.
Which of President Trump’s policies besides the tariffs have McConnell and Ryan opposed?

maryrose

What is wrong with Rokita?

derwill

Lawyers are paid to represent their clients on legal matters, and lawyers as a group have never struck me as all that picky about the clients they take on as long as the guy has the wherewithal to write the check. It's just business. Just because this lawyer had McCain for a client, that doesn't automatically mean he's evil incarnate.

When it comes right down to it, few people are fanatics. Most are just after making a buck and having a good life.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

maryrose,

My concern was that until recently he was all-in on the free trade, globalist, Chamber of Commerce agenda. He has only recently been speaking up for Trump, and while I recognize battlefield conversions, I am still suspicious.

Messmer is a conservative evangelical, who will be easy to demonize by the dems, especially because Donnelly will have all of the liberal Catholics and labor bosses backing him.

We haven't had any debates and the primary is in early May. There is a radio interview with Braun tomorrow which I will listen to. That will give me more of an idea of what to do.

Anna's reference to jokes reminded me of one I heard a couple of years ago about optimists in unexpected places. I am moved to transport it from the steppes of Russia to JOM realia, to the Ledge itself, reputed bastion of gloom and Glenmorangie (but, rather curiously in this telling, not of good spirit).

The Ledge is often decried for its predominance of pessimists, who, perched on this prominence, proclaim that the prospects for our society and polity could not be dimmer.

There are those who doubt that even a single optimist can be numbered among the Ledge's denizens. In truth, however, it boasts a sizable Panglossian population, unaccepting of the pessimists' premise, to which its confidently retorts, "Oh yes, they could!"

I really don't understand why people are hung up on a 2nd special counsel right now.

For starters, everyone wants to get this thing moving. Appointing a second special counsel who would come in from the outside and have to build a new team would take months just to get going.

They would have to review everything the IG has uncovered over the last year+ and it is extensive. Like well over a million documents extensive. We wouldn't be seeing any real action, if any, till the fall at the earliest.

I'll say this again, Sessions appointed a federal prosecutor and team to overlook this months ago. Most likely when the IG started uncovering criminal actions which was last July, right around the time Rosenstein wrote his clarification memo. This has been announced publicly a couple times, it's not news.

They have been working with the IG since then and know everything right now. And the reason Strzok, Page, both Ohrs, Priestap and others are still in their jobs or employed is because they have already flipped. They are probably hoping to reduce their sentences by giving evidence. The evidence of this is pretty strong.

Sessions has restarted the Uranium 1 investigation. He has also restarted the Clinton email investigation. They also have federal prosecutors overseeing them.

A special counsel has no special powers not available to a federal prosecutor. Zippo. A special counsel maybe needed down the road to deal with the State Dept. and others in the Obama administration but right now we already have a prosecutor working this and have had for months.

From a practical stand point the military acted like there were chemical weapons in Iraq. They pushed pallets of atropine and diazepam forward to treat nerve agents. They also pushed any NBC prototypes they had forward no matter how much a POS it was. They sent inflatable medical shelters forward and the guys from Natick could not get out of there quick enough when it got close to the balloon going up. I always figured they were tied in pretty well to intel sources.

The thought at the time was semi's were hauling chemical weapons to Syria prior to the start of the war, but when the whole WMD narrative started falling apart no one mentioned the truck convoys to Syria before the start of the war. It was like they never existed.
