Happy Mother's Day to all the Mother's on JOM.

Pancakes and sausages while watching Newcastle v. Chelsea.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I could repost the President's Mother's Day message and the picture of Melania, but I am sort of lazy this morning. If you missed it, they are on the last page of the previous thread.

Beasts of England

It was a fine photo, Miss Marple! :)

Miss Marple the Deplorable

New photos emerge of the 3 Iranians who met with John Kerry in Paris yesterday:

Photos at link.

Happy Mothers Day to all of our JOM moms.

Your Latin Phrase of the Day:

Saepe creat molles aspera spina rosas.

Somewhat appropriate for Mother's Day.

For open threads I'll match our TM for Glenn.
Any day of the week.
Twice on Sundays.
Three times on holidays.

Thanks, JiB!

How does anyone know they were Iranians?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

According to the Twitter post yesterday they were overheard in the cafe. They also had armed security with them, and someone else pointed out that the cafe was just around the corner from the Iranian embassy.

Yes, this all could be disinfo or a hoax. I alerted Wictor and Heshmet Alvadi to that post, because if anyone can identify them, those two can.

No kidding, Jim.

OPEN THREAD: Saturday night’s alright for threadin’, get a little action in.

Posted at 9:30 pm by Glenn Reynolds

Was the overheard conversation quoted anywhere?

Jim Eagle

I am still convinced that Glenn is trolling Extraneus with those open thread lead ons.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

That's all I know, Extraneus, since I was in garage sale hell yesterday when it was posted.

However, I see two tweets besides this one identifying one of the guys:

Neither McCain nor Kerry served in the Infantry.

Yes, it matters.

Those SwiftBoat guys who were outraged by the manufactured BS of John Kerry likely feel quite different about the service Mueller provided. I can't be 100% sure of that but *I* certainly feel different about it.

Make up your own mind about the rumors surrounding McCain and his captivity.

As best I can tell, none of that hovers around Mueller.

Trumps Mommy issues

Finally, much of the president’s behavior, both before and since he took office, is clearly consistent with attachment avoidance: His powerful sense of self-reliance and near-inability to acknowledge self-doubt; his bragging about his sexual relations; his almost complete lack of close friends; his multiple marriages; and his unstable relationships with White House staff, Cabinet members and congressional leaders of both parties.

Trump’s almost compulsive need to be in the spotlight might be evidence of attachment anxiety if it were aimed primarily at needing approval. But in the president’s case, it appears to be more about needing admiration. Overt narcissism or grandiose self-regard, the leading attachment researchers Mario Mikulincer and Philip R. Shaver report, is associated with attachment avoidance.

By any number of measures, President Trump may be seen as an anomaly among politicians—after all, how many people have run for precisely one political office and landed directly in the White House?—but if my hunch is correct, in this one trait—attachment avoidance—Trump may, in fact, be rather typical.

Attachment avoidance accounts for about 25 percent of the general population, with about 55 percent of people being secure, 15 percent anxious and 5 percent disorganized (often those who were neglected or maltreated in childhood). But in the course of my research, I asked questions from the Adult Attachment Interview to diverse officials: a former presidential nominee, current and former members of Congress and a mayor. With only one exception, their results indicated attachment avoidance.

As we prepare to head north, I was wondering how you finally resolved your two cable delima?

We have Verizon FIOS in Potomac, and Comcast XFinity on Nantucket.

I sure do hate paying double especially for premium channels.

Both house have Apple TV, Amazon Prime TV and Roku (never used).

Left to my own devices (bad pun), I would probably try to load all the premium junk onto my FIOS account since I keep that up 12 months, then reduce XFinity to some digital plan and use Apple TV to access NetFlix, HBO, Showtime & Tennis Channel using my Verizon logins.

Considering the location, if they really were Iranians from the embassy, I think it indicates that Kerry was in a weak position. Otherwise, they'd have traveled to his location and been more discreet about it.

Maybe he was begging them not to expose something.

RG, my point was that good character at a young age does not necessarily translate into good character fifty years later. Surely there are grunt Marines who were good marines but aged poorly.

Happy Mother's day to some of my favorite ladies on the planet!

Maybe he was begging them not to expose something.

I hope they said no!

Captain Hate

Lurch begging a bunch of lowlife Persians is very amusing.

Have to disagree about Mueller.
A man with a true moral compass would come out publicly and tell the truth.
There is no Russian collusion in the Trump campaign but that his campaign was spied on by Hillary and Obama.

RG, a good Marine does not automatically transmogrify into a good lawyer. What intelligence has Mueller shown as a lawyer? Anthrax? Olympic bomber? Guiding Comey? Lots of examples of idiocy, any of intelligence?

Captain Hate

When does Congress haul Mueller in and demand that he justifies his eternal snipe hunt. Remember the 2010 campaigning about "power of the purse"?

Mueller's on "our side" as much as Powell.

Eye Doctor

RG, you are ignoring Mueller's long history of criminal activity because he was a Marine.

President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!

I knew nothing about this because companies with initials as names all blend into one for me. Anyway, here is the background on ZTE for those who didn't know about this, like me.

Good Morning! OL,please do not subscribe to Hulu! We upgraded the sat internet here in the woods and decided to try Hulu. The buffering issues are unwatchable. We have Netflix in FL,so connected here. No problems with Netflix. The only reason I wanted Hulu was to get Fox Business and TCM. I'm going to unsubscribe.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I wonder if the ZTE ban was a demonstration of how powerful the US is when China depends on selling stuff to us.

ZTE makes Android phones that supposedly spy on users.

We only use Roku, AppleTV and Amazon Fire in Florida. Since we still have our cable company there provide phone and ISP, we can stream all channels but not pay the cable portion of the bundled service. Up here in New Yawk we still have optimum and haven't gone full monty on the steaming services but have them all on the TV. That is where we get our movies.

Saves a bunch of money in Florida.

Revolt: Three EU Nations Block Resolution Meant To “Embarrass And Isolate” The White House

Preparations are underway for the grand opening of the new United States embassy to Israel in Jerusalem. While the President won’t be able to attend as he prepares for his summit with North Korea, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have arrived to do the honors along with a number of other delegates. But not everyone is quite so thrilled with this development, particularly in some parts of the European Union. They were preparing to put forward a resolution condemning the embassy move, delivering a statement which was explicitly designed to “embarrass and isolate the Trump administration” ahead of the ceremony.

That nasty little poison pill fell apart this weekend, however, when three member nations blocked the resolution. The objection was led by Hungary, which was quickly joined by Romania and the Czech Republic.

This is when you know you're spending too much time on JOM...last night I had a strange dream. There was a "War of the Worlds" scenario and loudspeakers kept blasting the news of an invasion. Some people were running around with their hair on fire, others were calm and unconcerned. A few JOMers made cameos. I kept asking, where are the washers and dryers?! I need to do the laundry! So,the invasion is coming, everyone is running for their lives and a few JOMers tried to help me find the laundromat. Either I do way too much laundry or read way too much JOM! :)

JiB, In July we are arriving at Gare de l’est in Paris at 8:30 am. There is a couple of hundred yards walk to Gare du Nord for the 10:25 am to Amsterdam.

Gordan Chang on Twitter said that gasoline prices were going down in North Korea, which he believes signifies that the Chinese are cheating a bit.

So, Xi stops shipping the gasoline and we figure out a way to get ZTE back in business without the security violations on their phones.

ZTE should be the mandated phone for Free Shit Army recipients of Obamaphones.

If the Chinese are eavesdropping, listening to the drivel from that crowd will cure them quick:)

Trump's negotiations will be iterative too--he will keep going back for more. He knows what he is doing.

Imagine what he could do if the Dems put nation before party?

Still, he will keep at it; If he keeps the house it will be amazing what he will accomplish.

Frankly, he has done more by now than i expected him to accomplish in his whole term.

Just canning the Paris Accords and Network neutrality is enough for me, and frankly I was a little worried about it.

To have ANY national politician keep his word is amazing; completely new territory for me. We cannot imagine the pressure on him just for those two issues.

John Kelly's Scathing Criticism of 'Vicious' Press on NPR Left on the Cutting-Room Floor

White House chief of staff John Kelly surprised the liberal media by granting an interview to National Public Radio, something Donald Trump hasn't done in his brief political career. Kelly talked to John Burnett, who knew Kelly as a press briefer when he was embedded with the troops in southern Iraq. In this interview, Kelly was scathing about the press, and guess what? Those comments didn't make the story, which aired on Friday's Morning Edition.

Examples at the link.

CBS Skips Reporting Its Own Bad Poll for Mueller...So Fox News Hosts Report It

Sean Hannity had it:

SEAN HANNITY: According to a brand-new CBS News poll, more Americans now think, rightly so, Robert Mueller's witch-hunt is, in fact, politically motivated. Now, this comes as the mainstream, destroy Trump media continues to do Mueller's bidding.

Now, according to NewsBusters, get this, CBS, NBC spent a combined 30 seconds on the recent beat-down last Friday of the special counsel investigation from a federal judge. And meanwhile, President Trump's poll numbers, they're rising. This despite a NewsBusters study showing that network news broadcasts in this country featured negative stories about the president 90 percent of the time. Wow.

Tucker Carlson also reported it:

TUCKER CARLSON: Well, a new poll from CBS finds that the majority of Americans, 53 percent, now view special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation as a politically motivated operation.

And you can see why they might conclude that. The Democratic Party seems to be agreeing with that interpretation and adding to it. Recent fund- raising emails from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee have lied about the investigation itself. They have claimed that if the party can collect 1 million signatures, it will somehow force President Trump to give testimony to Mueller's investigators because that's how it works.

Among Republicans and independents, Mueller is losing. CBS did report a poll on Tuesday morning. But it was a CNN poll:

NORAH O`DONNELL: A new poll finds First Lady Melania Trump has a 57 percent approval rating, that`s up ten points since January. Mrs. Trump formally unveiled her Be Best campaign yesterday, promising to work on critical issues facing children. Julianna Goldman is at the White House where the first lady's announcement came with some controversy.

Gare de l'est is about a 10 minute walk to Gare de Nord but it can be an "iffy" kind of neighborhood at times.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is examining a series of previously unreported meetings that took place in 2017 in the Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, as part of its broader investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, according to two sources briefed on the investigation.

The sources said several of those meetings took place around the same time as another meeting in the Seychelles between Erik Prince, founder of the security company Blackwater, Kirill Dmitriev, the director of one of Russia’s sovereign wealth funds, and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the effective ruler of the United Arab Emirates (also known as “MBZ”). Details of that earlier meetingwere first reported by the Washington Post last year.

Individuals connected to the Saudi financial system, including the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and the Arab National Bank, flew into the island the second week of January 2017, as did an aircraft purportedly owned by the former deputy minister of defense, Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, fight records show. Other individuals on those aircraft held passports from Egypt and Singapore.

Dmitriev flew into the Seychelles Jan. 11, 2017 with his wife Natalia Popova and another woman with the last name Boldovskaia. Six other Russian individuals flew to the island just a few days after Dmitriev. The aircraft’s ownership is unclear but it flew between Russia, Geneva and Cyprus in 2017.

Others on the island included Alexander Mashkevitch, an alleged financier of Bayrock, an investment vehicle linked to Trump, and Sheikh Abdulrahman Khalid BinMahfouz, according to flight records. BinMahfouz’s father, before his death, was a billionaire and the former chairman of Saudi Arabia’s first private bank.
