Per The Hill, Mueller's Russian novel is taking yet another plot twist: Deripaska is an oligarch who hired, fired and sued Manafort and may be a witness against him.
But now we learn that in 2009 the FBI worked with Deripaska and let him finance an attempt to rescue an FBI agent from Iran. OK, I like where there head was but they liked Deripaska for this becasue he had business in Iran and (probably like a lot of his peers) had underworld connections. Those connections led to State Department travel restrictions and eventual US sanctions, but now he is on Mueller's side against Manafort? I can't tell the colluders without a scorecard.
And a Bonus Baffler - was subcontracting to Deripaska even legal?
Melanie Sloan, a former Clinton Justice Department lawyer and longtime ethics watchdog, told me a “far more significant issue” is whether the earlier FBI operation was even legal: “It’s possible the bureau’s arrangement with Mr. Deripaska violated the Antideficiency Act, which prohibits the government from accepting voluntary services.”
George Washington University constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley agreed: “If the operation with Deripaska contravened federal law, this figure could be viewed as a potential embarrassment for Mueller. The question is whether he could implicate Mueller in an impropriety.”
Now that sources have unmasked the Deripaska story, time will tell whether the courts, Justice, Congress or a defendant formally questions if Mueller is conflicted.
Mini-bafflers - was the Antideficiency Act invoked as part of the Iran-Contra debacle, with arms, hostages and cash moving off-book? [Yes, cameo appearances] And why is it always Iran? C'mon, send better baddies!
MORE: The Hill linked to a long Dec 13, 2013 NY Times piece about the FBI agent, Robert Levinson, who had specialized in Russian organized crime. In their telling he retired from the FBI in 1998 in order to make more money in the private investigations sector; he then re-aligned with the CIA as a consultant in 2006.
The Deripaska connection:
By mid-2008, the F.B.I. was fully engaged in the hunt. At that time, two F.B.I. agents met at a Paris hotel with a powerful new player who became secretly involved in the effort: Oleg Deripaska, one of Russia’s wealthiest businessmen.Mr. Deripaska’s entry into the case held great promise. He headed an international mining and metals empire with business ties to Iran.
His involvement also came with a price. The State Department had refused Mr. Deripaska a visa because of allegations linking him to organized crime — accusations he has denied. But Mr. Birshtein, the Toronto businessman, had approached the F.B.I. with a plan: He would persuade Mr. Deripaska to join the search and, if they succeeded, both would get their entry problems resolved.
Mr. Deripaska said he would put up millions to fund the venture, but he insisted that his role be kept secret. However, word that big money was in play made its way to Iran. Suddenly, a man with family connection
s to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, insisted that he could engineer Mr. Levinson’s release for a hefty price. F.B.I. officials were so confident about the plan that they told Mrs. Levinson to stay by the phone for a call from her husband. It never came.
Mr. Deripaska, who was scheduled to meet in 2009 with bankers in the United States, wanted to collect on his end of the deal. The State Department, after two heated meetings with Justice Department officials, refused to issue him a visa, according to government officials. The F.B.I., hoping to keep him in the game, made an end-run around State Department officials and issued him a visa under a special program, allowing him to enter the country twice.
In 2010, during a visit to New York, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, then the president of Iran, was asked about Mr. Levinson by reporters. He said his government knew nothing of the former agent’s fate but offered to help find him.
Somali refugees in Minnesota are using kids to rip off millions in taxpayer dollars so they can send laundered money to shady places in the Middle East—surely funding Islamist terrorism.

From the Mormon website;
The doctrine that the Godhead consists of three separate beings is contrary to Christian doctrine and denies the Trinity.
The doctrine that Jesus is a separate being created, like us, by the Father is anathema to orthodox Christianity.
The doctrine that the Father has a perfected body of flesh and bone has no support in scripture.
There are many other examples.
The plain words of the Mormon faith are not slanderous nor mischaracterizations.

I'm a lapsed Roman Catholic, meaning that I don't go to church on Sundays and Holy days, but if faced with the choice of somebody asking me to renounce my faith or die. I'll choose the latter.
If you're brought up Catholic you know that it is the "ONE TRUE FAITH." It's a basic tenet. I choose to honor all religions.
I would point out that WASPs were just as critical of Catholics as they were of Mormons, back in the day.

"The Catholic Church finally agreed on which writings should go into the Bible at the Council of Rome in 382 AD during the time of Pope Damasus."
That's the basis for the New Testament. We know that some books were excluded because they were considered heretical or of poor providence. Many of these excluded books are still known today as the Apocrypha.
Theologians, as is their wont, still argue about what should or should not have been included in the New Testament, but it is notable that the Catholic bible incorporated the Old Testaments. In effect, the Catholics were a new Jewish sect.
Quoting from Wiki:"From the Reformation, Protestants have usually excluded the books which Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians consider to be Deuterocanonical, viewing them as non-canonical. However, prior to an 1825 British and Foreign Bible Society decision, most Protestant Bibles did include these additional books within the same printed bibles. It was usually to be found in a separate section under the heading of Apocrypha and sometimes carrying a statement to the effect that the such books were non-canonical."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_Bible
Apocrypha in RC sense is what isn't included in the New Testament. In the Protestant sense, it's what needs to excised from the Catholic bible.
So Protestants, from my view, are using a Catholic Bible with 7 books excised, but nothing new added.
Many of the early Protestant sects, divorced from the Pope, were state religions.
Finally, if you study the history of Joseph Smith, you would realize that a great religious fervor had arisen in NY and some other states in the early 1800's and late 1700's. It led to many new denominations arising.
"Methodist Episcopal Church. The Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) was the oldest and largest Methodist denomination in the United States from its founding in 1784 until 1939. It was also the first religious denomination in the US to organize itself on a national basis."
"Historians trace the earliest church labeled "Baptist" back to 1609 in Amsterdam, Dutch Republic with English Separatist John Smyth as its pastor."
"The Seventh-day Adventist Church[a] is a Protestant Christian denomination[3] distinguished by its observance of Saturday,[4] the seventh day of the week in Christian and Jewish calendars, as the Sabbath, and by its emphasis on the imminent Second Coming (advent) of Jesus Christ. The denomination grew out of the Millerite movement in the United States during the mid-19th century and was formally established in 1863."
My point being is that after the Protestant separation from Catholicism. Protestants fractured into dozens of sects and continue to do so.
Should I as a Roman Catholic, as a member of "THE ONE TRUE FAITH", as I've been taught, deign to consider "all" Protestant faiths as, let's say, mis-guided, no they worship the same god as I do. They are brethren with different rituals and somewhat different beliefs.
And remember, as I pointed out, they're, with minor modification, using a bible developed by Roman Catholics.
So, if as a Catholic, I can accept that Protestants are bringing people to our Lord, via a slightly different belief or viewpoint, I can't decry the Mormons for doing the same thing.
Why is it not possible that the Lord chooses to reveal himself to others in an effort to bring all of us to HIM?
I've never read the "Book of Mormon", nor the Koran, nor other religious texts, but in the end, all religions are based on faith, because we, as humans, don't have the capacity to answer questions that are beyond our comprehension.
I have no reason to belief the the Latter Day Saints, as founded by a latter day "prophet" Joseph Smith has less worth than any other "young" religion. And yes I'm pointing at Protestants here.
I don't mean to offend anyone, though I probably have, but it's not right to condemn a group of people for nor believing exactly as you do. It's not a christian value. You are supposed to love your neighbor.

Was Joseph Smith a fraud and a charlatan, or a true prophet? It's question of faith. If you read the history of the times there were quite a few apocalyptic preachers, who always got the day wrong. We're still here right?

Yep, yep. I think Brennan may essentially be Bottom Bitch number one and he controlled McCabe, Brennan helped rig the rise of Obama, and Brennan helped make a deal with the Clintons for the 2016 election cycle.
Some are claiming Brennan is a Russian agent. I don't believe that. I suspect he's one of these educated fools who look down on most Americans and saw a world where it would be best if the totalitarian elite ran things in toto.
More than Russian agent, he was likely more co-opted by Western European socialists (British, German, etc.) because they feel precisely the same way. They don't need to be Russian agents; they're indirectly doing work for the Russians (and others) regardless.
Brennan, as a "citizen of the world" globalist, probably desired a world where "balance" required the Iranians to have nuclear bombs, where Russia should have a primary role in the Middle East approximating America, where China should be able to have a tremendous trade imbalance with us, etc.
MAGA is his worst nightmare and it is now time to pay the piper that is the American constitution.

This women is the one that started this sanctuary bullshit in SF many many moons ago back in 1991. Over the years others took what she started and added steroids, in particular in 2016 when they added felons to be covered. Long story short she’s running for mayor after trying to signature to change the law back toward her original one.
What was hilarious though was the reaction she’s getting – all her lefty friends attacking her, calling her a Nazi, a bigot, racist, a Trumper, etc all cause she’s not in favor of letting felonies slide or otherwise dangerous individuals off the hook.
It was funny\ironic, though not at all surprising that she’s being met with some of the same lunacy she’s I’m sure done to others over the years. Even more so that she doesn’t seem to see how what she started back in 1991 has led exactly to where things are today."

I'm not so sure hard core Republican voters will engage in "stay-at-home" protests come the mid-terms to "punish" the Party.
It doesn’t need to be an active protest to damage GOP results on Election Day. A loss of enthusiasm is all it takes.
It’s the difference between just going to the polling place yourself; and feelInfo inspired to do more - volunteering, making calls, donating money, putting up yard signs, dragging a friend or relative (or several) to the polling place with you.

Texas Liberty Gal,
What denomination are you?
And what does it have to say about your bigotry?
And, please tell me, why are you superior to a Mormon?
I really want to understand why your religious belief is better than mine.
Tell me why David and I, of different beliefs are wrong?
All I'm hearing from you is almost two hundred year's worth of bigotry against the Mormon church.
Christianity and Mormons have different ideas about what the trinity means. That's one of the most difficult concepts for any Christian to grasp.
In Roman Catholicism, the trinity is one entity, with different aspects,
Like in "Star Wars", the "Force" is something you are connected to, or not.
G-D is someone you connect with, or not, why worry about how another denomination does so?
Last thing I plan on doing today is getting sucked into some argument on theology.

Just kidding..

Good morning.
Your Latin Phrase of the day:
Si sapis, sis apis.
Like yesterday's, a little easier than something from Cicero or Livy:)
Think sweet and where it comes from.

Me too Buckeye.
But I had to review this thread and the last, as I didn't recall any particular "Mormon bashing" going on. And indeed, only one comment from TLG that could be so construed, but with some material from Ig technically supporting her position. Did I miss anything else?
I'd respectfully suggest a couple things to David:
1) It's not important what others think of your beliefs, religious or otherwise, it's only important that you're confident and comfortable with them (so long as they're not hurting anyone else, which they aren't).
2) In this world where the progs are actively trying to divide and defeat us, we need to seek our common ground in order to fight that evil. Won't ask you to kiss and make up with any of the small minority here that may have said something that offended you. Will ask that you return and continue making your contributions to the fight.

Boy, buckeye, am I with you!!!
Not that I don't have things to say---
I've written and erased at least five posts on the topic---but I've had to conclude there is just no way I walk through that field without getting covered with shit.
HOWEVER--I'm happy to go there in person, if we ever get our weekend arranged. Just want to make sure I can immediately clarify/expand and see if I am offending.
(Maybe how much I am offending!)

It looks like Clarice has written a very meaningful article, but I can't get the comments to come up.
Anyone else go that problem? They seem to work fine on other articles.

The Trinity is a big deal. The first council of Nicaea occurred to get everyone on the same page. That shouldn't be a controversial concept to understand.

Another Bob,
That was my reason for being so incensed about Romney's comment about Dr. Jeffress yesterday, which is what started this entire kerfuffle.
It was divisive and Romney is the person who set the whole thing off.
I am not a Baptist nor a Jew and I don't share all of their beliefs. HOWEVER, we are in a fight to preserve both their rights, as well as that of Mormons and Roman Catholics, to worship as we see fit.
The progs have been in the process of driving God from public life for almost 50 years, ever since they got the Lord's prayer removed from school. They actually booed God at the democrat convention. (Saw it myself.)
I apologize again for starting this whole mess, as my pointed comments about heresy were really directed towards Mr. Perfect, Mitt Romney, and not Mormons as a whole.
I am deeply ashamed that this denigrated the threads and I hope David will return and we can drop this entire subject.

Another boring genealogy story.
My wife is a decendant of 3 Plymouth colony members that sailed on the Mayflower.
William Bradford is one, another is a guy named Copeland, who was a shiphand, can't remember the third. Copeland opted to stay in the New World as opposed to return on the Mayflower.
These good Puritans, who were escaping religious persecution, worked on Copeland to adopt their religious views. When he refused, they kicked the shit outta him, cut off his ear and banished him.
One thing I know for sure, our sinful nature means we are likely to make a mess of things, including theology, no matter how "pure".
Not much chance we would get it "right".

Tuesday, May 15, 2018Elder of Ziyon
Here are three of the "innocent civilians" killed yesterday, members of the Al Quds Brigades. One was 16 years old.
Islamic Jihad has published a death notice for three of the members of its Al Quds Brigades who were killed yesterday.
The one on the right is Ahmed Adel Mousa Al-Shaer, who was 16 years old. Yes, at least one of the "children" killed yesterday was a member of a terror group.
Here we have photographic evidence that Gaza terror groups recruit children for terror. And that terror groups are hiding in the middle of the protests to prepare acts of terror.
And that Israel isn't killing people randomly.
Which means - more evidence that the media will ignore.

Hi, David. I’m glad to have you here. Please stay.
What is important about your Mormon beliefs is that you believe them.
What is also important is that you let others’ observations about religion wash over you and take what value you can from them. Your beliefs will come out more clearly because you did.
Again, please stay.
My objection to Mitt Romney is not that he is Mormon, but a two-faced bloviating pompous ass. If anything, his being Mormon is a saving grace.
Although I haven’t gone back to TLG’s comments, I value her representations and strong arguments and am glad she is here. JOM is sturdiest because strong arguments are met head on, and we seem to be able to choose wisely to oppose or ignore things.
The historical time of Joseph Smith requires understanding the philosophical struggle between institutional dogma and individual thought that Transendentalism represented.
That was then and, because we don’t live then, leave contemporary judgment about it on the shelf. Just mine it for useful patterns.
I can laugh uproariously at both “The Book of Mormon” and “Life of Brian” and still respect those who revere and value the core values the religions represent.

The reaction of Dems and gope about the ZTE issue explains why they can never solve any problems. Trump asked Xi for help with NK, he helped. Xi personally asked Trump for help with ZTE. If he doesn't help then the relationship fails and we are back to square one with NK

I wanted to post this because it is quite true. If I had a dime for every negative comment about this over the last few days I could probably buy our groceries for a week.
Unending carping about backing down, broken promises, Chinese getting the better of him, etc. etc.
It's ridiculous and demonstrated the simple-mindedness of news analysts and certain elected officials, Marco Rubio being one.

The ZTE flap is a bit overblown.
The real concern is IP theft, and they have ample opportunity to steal stuff with or without semiconductor sales to ZTE.
While the semiconductors are "state of the art", possessing them doesn't practically mean you can reverse engineer diddly.
After decades of reverse engineering effort and IP theft, the Chinese finally have an aircraft carrier.
It is barely seaworthy.

From my Broken-Neck Survivors page today - I thought this was a good reminder.
You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you.
True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. True power is restraint.
If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.

In Roman Catholicism, the trinity is one entity, with different aspects,
Not just in Roman Catholicism. The Trinity is orthodox doctrine in Protestantism as well.
The Book of Mormon is vile. I may have fundamental theological disagreements with LDS, but I will defend them against anti-Christian haters any day.
