Aww, so special for McCain

President Barack Obama called Senator John McCain (R., Ariz.) last year to thank him for casting the decisive vote against legislation that would have effectively repealed Obamacare, according to an excerpt of McCain’s forthcoming memoir obtained by NBC.

In McCain’s memoir, The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations, which he coauthored with longtime aide Mark Salter, he describes receiving a call from Obama in July after crushing Republican hopes of dismantling the former president’s signature domestic achievement.

Obama called to say thank you and added that he was “counting on me to be an outspoken and independent voice for the causes I believed in as I had been during his presidency,” McCain wrote of the call.

Old Lurker

Anybody else sick and tired of Republicans who talk tough when it means nothing just to back off when the time comes?

But claiming that killing the Iran sham now will diminish our leverage over Iran is about the silliest thing I have heard since "Elect us and we will repeal Obamacare".

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Appalled,

Right now it's about thier desire to gain power who they THOUGHT would win, Hillary. A generation ago they were about removing Nixon from power.

In between we have the horrible injustice perpetrated on Ted Stevens and the Bundy's, plus God knows how many lesser-known people who were railroaded just to help out a prosecutor's head count or get an agent a promotion.

So it's both political and non-political.

I am still horrified that they do not record interviews, instead using those agent recollections through the 302 forms.

No one should subject themselves to FBI questioning until there is a law in place demanding recordings.

He screws the people that voted for him & who pay his salary...but he loves that praise from the MFM & Obama.

With the exception of Martha Stewart (who for some reason I think had crossed Hillary back in the 90's) I can think of no one in the dem party who was framed with the vehemence of Ted Stevens.

This is how the Clintoons operated in Arkansas - they had the state troopers functioning as enforcers. They just moved on to the FBI when Bill got elected.

George Bush wasn't smart enough to clean house when he won the election, probably because he was playing by the GOP's Marquis of Queensbury rule, which we have discovered, the democrats count on.

McCarthy's conclusion (similar to Old Lurker's comment)

There is no Department of Justice in the Constitution. It is an executive-branch component created by Congress, funded with taxpayer funds appropriated by Congress, and subject to congressional oversight to ensure that its operations are conducted in accordance with their statutory purposes. Because of the sensitivity of their law-enforcement and intelligence missions, the Justice Department and its premier agency, the FBI, are shown great deference when lawmakers make requests — or even demands — for information. Contrary to what Justice Department leadership apparently believes, this deference is not an entitlement. It is result of respect earned over time by an institution that — its proud alumni like to believe — has a tradition of dealing honorably and transparently with peer branches of government.

It is a fact of life that the precious commodity of a good reputation takes much less time to lose than to build.

There is no defending the redactions that have now been disclosed. Especially in light of recent history, this powerfully suggests that there is no justification for withholding much else that the Justice Department refuses to reveal.

Republican committees can carp all they like about Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein. The buck stops with the president.

She purposely instituted ludicrous procedures that made our security as full of holes as Swiss cheese. How can the Intel Community or, indeed, any American-loving gov't employee not be outraged?

Extraneus

If Comey was "helping", he was bad at it.

He granted immunity to her accomplices, then allowed them to attend her "voluntary interview," before which he had already drafted the exoneration statement, which wasn't even in his authority to grant. He allowed her to wipe and/or destroy servers, blackberries, and other devices. He invented an "intent" clause in a statute that had none, then used a claimed lack of intent - when there was clearly intent - to exonerate her and her accomplices.

If it weren't for his help, they'd all be in jail by now.

maryrose

Crispr kits, used to prevent hereditary diseases, are available from online stores for just £150 ($288) and can be used to change a person's genetic makeup.

The revolutionary kits are being developed to help fight diseases such as sickle cell anaemia, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy.

But Professor George Church, of Harvard University, who pioneered the use of the Crispr technique, said it could also be used by criminals to disappear from forensic databases or evade detection.
