My favorite part of the linked story is this non-denial denial:

Canon will no longer produce film-based cameras. Sad day for me as Nikon film cameras are "temporarily" out-of-stock also. It's the end of an era that I have dreaded for some time.

It's like the end of turntables and vinyl pressed records.

Moving from analog to digital is not always an improvement.

Some time in the distant future photos and music from this era will be lost to all time.

Photographic prints from this era will degrade because they don't meet archival standards. The inks and the paper they're sprayed on will degrade. Photos produced on common computer printers just won't last.

Negatives and prints handed down from generation to generation will continue to do so. Electronic images, I'm not so sure, especially if they change file formats in the future.

Letters are no longer written. They can't be passed along because they don't exist.

If people are smart, and a company arises to service them, wills will be written with specific instructions to save electronic files, but nobody is thinking about that yet.

You know how cemeteries sell "perpetual care" for grounds-keeping. That will be the "new" digital model and descendants will have to have accounts to access them.

China would lose oil tankers bound for China if they can't protect them. No oil - short war.

What would the Chinese do, surge their Navy into the Indian Ocean to protect their shipping lanes? Or not, and lose their oil lifeline?

Not venture forth into the Indian Ocean and stay in the South China Sea, and those newly created islets, and await a frontal attack?

I'm thinking that the Chinese have spent a lot of time war-gaming out how a South China Sea battle might play out.

What if we decline that battle and choose, instead, to wage that battle in the Indian Ocean?

Where they won't have air cover, will have supply lines as long as ours, and where they have no experience in an open ocean battle?

Suddenly those newly created islets are no longer a threat, but something to be dealt with later.

That earlier comment from the Pentagon that we have experience in island hopping doesn't mean we have to do that first. If needed, we can do it later.

And by the rules of we we can impound any Chinese merchant vessel that comes into our ports.

Dave, I'm tweaking the Boston accent, but that was a quote, maybe poorly done, of a Boston cop, warning me not to park near the Commons.
I was polite with him and asked him why. He pointed at a fleet of tow trucks hooking up to cars behind me.

Truth is I love Boston. Been up there many times on personal and corporate visits. Nice people.

I remember visiting Columbus, Ga, for two days, back in the nineties as a Quotron software trainer.

And I started to pick up the patois. My training partner and I ate at a local restaurant before going to our assignment. The waitress delivered the bill and I asked, "Is this right?" She said "Is that too much?" And I said "We're from the NYC area, you couldn't feed one person in NYC for this price."

We got into a conversation and she asked if NYC was as bad as they said it was. I told her, no, it's worse, you'd love it.

She seemed thrilled by the idea.

So on the way back to the airport I took a bridge across the river, so that I could say that I had been in Alabama, drove across another bridge and was headed again to the the Georgia airport.

Now that I know you a bit in context, I get your schtick at the other place. I didn't understand you back then but I can't say I was annoyed or whatever.

I'm inclined to respond to trolls because maybe I was spawned in the same pit. Quick improvisation is kind of my thing too. I find it hard to get mad at people online anymore, but I guess I get frustrated sometimes. That's why I'm glad I expanded my circuit.

Now today IRL, I genuinely thought I was going to get in a street fight with a sawed off Katt Williams wanna be MF riding a mini dirt bike around a neighborhood called The Nations, like an a hole.

I stopped at a stop sign. Looked left, looked right. Proceeded. All of a sudden I see this guy booking it from my right but I had committed so I went thru the intersection. In plenty of time. I know negligence is a zero sum game but it's not usually 100% to nothing.

So he follows me and confronts me at an address, accuses me of trying to run him down.

I pointed out he was driving a non street legal vehicle on a roadway.

He asked if that gives me the right to run him down and he said he took video.

He had no go pro so he was driving with one hand and shooting video with the other?

No, he's a crazy or high liar. I tell him to call the effing cops. He says he did. He goes up to the intersection and comes back, apparently looking for the imaginary cops he called.

He parks his bike a few feet from my drivers side wheel and puts his helmet on the ground a similar distance from my passenger side wheel. Oh, is he trying to illegally detain me? I wish a ***** would.

I get back in my car and drive off and he paces me on off to my left, driving down the wrong side of the road. Then he jumps up on the sidewalk till he gets to a bike lane where he goes the wrong way about 40 mph.

I don't think that's the last I've seen of him.

I used to take lots of photos but now that the grandchildren are pretty much grown up, not so much.

I am not very good with using the phone for photos and then you have them stuck on your phone, unless you store them somewhere. It's a real concern, which you explained quite well.

Yeah, that's a NJ speech pattern. Interestingly, southern NJ speech patterns sound like something south of the Mason-Dixie line.

In northern NJ and NYC we tend to speak fast. Many people in northern NJ work in NYC, so there is a blending of the speech patterns.

And we tend to talk very fast. Most Americans speak more slowly and have keywords we don't use, so the elite think the slow talkers are inferior. The elite thinks that means they are dumb. That's never been my experience.

Wisdom has nothing to do with speed of speech, unless you consider northern liberals who reveal themselves so quickly as idiots.

And when you talk to them, their responses are quick, and you have to say "Shut-up, you're not listening to me."

Sometimes they won't shut up, okay, time to walk away, no use. Other times, they are persuadable, then it gets interesting.

That's the key, persuasion, won't work on a closed mind, but rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.

My opinion is that slower-speaking Americans are more willing to engage in fruitful discussions. Because they listen to each other.

In my area of the country I can spot people who won't engage in a reasonable debate in just a few seconds. I could engage them with a logical argument, but they are emotional, not logical.

It's sad that that slogans are worth more than reasoned discussions.

I caught Andy McCarthy today on Buck Sexton's Radio Show. If you care to listen it's here starting about minute 20, but here's my transcript of some depressing answers from McCarthy about Gowdy and the Swamp.

Buck Sexton:...What do you think the calculation was? Trey Gowdy, And Marco Rubio, but really Trey Gowdy in particular...What's his deal? I don't even know how to phrase it. What's his situation?

Andy McCarthy: ...I would say 90% of the time I'm not only in agreement with him but I'm an enthusiastic admirer because I think he's very effective. But I think in this instance, and there have been instances where he's been a disappointing figure, umm, in this instance I think there's 2 ways to look at this Buck. There's the way I look at it and I suspect you look at it, and there's the way that Gowdy and Rubio are looking at it, and that is to say these Institutions, the FBI and the Justice Department, are crucially important Institutions to the Rule of Law, and to us having a flourishing secure Society. Umm, if there's a problem with them, then one way of dealing with that is to try to say "We've reached a crescendo where they can't sustain any more hits," and then try to just put lipstick on the pig, you know to basically say "Look everything is fine here, because if we keep looking we're going to destroy these Institutions." To my mind I'm the opposite way. I think these Institutions are as important as these guys do, but I think the way you fix them is to be transparent and accountable because there's nothing in History that's more frightening and more fraught with peril than having Police Power that's not accountable to the sovereign, in this instance, to us. I think we really need to know what happened here, and get a complete explanation of it, and if people did things they shouldn't have done then we need to know that, and if there's extenuating circumstances we need to know that so we can put it in context, but the Game-playing to me needs to stop. I think that far from saying "everything is fine" when it's not fine, we really need to get to the bottom of what happened.

Buck Sexton: Do you think we will Andy?...Do you think we're going to find out the answers and where do you see this going, now in year 2 of this Investigation?

Andy McCarthy: Buck, I was more confident that we would get to the bottom of it if you had asked me that question last week. I was more confident of it then than I am now, because I think that there's a lot of ways that you get to the bottom of it, in particular I think that if they unredacted the Page-Strzok text messages, since they were at the very height of the Investigation, of both the Clinton E-Mails and the Trump-Russia thing, and day by day they're exchanging these messages so you have a pretty good narrative of what happened. They can't seem to shut up, they talk about everything. But they've given us that with a lot of redactions, so the question is "Do we get that information?" I would have been much more confident about it last week, but now, with Rubio and Gowdy and McConnell and you know some other major Republicans coming to the position of "Everything is fine here, the FBI is fine, what they did here is essentially fine, you can quibble with this or that," When they start making those kind of sounds I start to think that the Swamp is closing ranks and they've decided we've had quite enough of this.

Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on IG report, originally scheduled for June 5, has been moved to June 11. That means no IG report this week.

This would fit in with giving time for Rubio and Gowdy and McConnell and other Repub's to work out their "Everything is fine" narrative.

The Senate hearing on the IG report is on the McCabe report, which has already been completed. This is just McCabe, not the big one which is has been given to parties mentioned for review but has not been released.

While I dislike the delay, I don't think that it has anything to do with the one which should drop this week.
