Bakersfield...the former home of ol Bellowin Buck Owens.

Used to be as barren and hot as one of my angry ex-paramours (in my best WC Fields voice).

Now it's the land of endless, "straight as a rifle shot" (remember the old "Shell with platformate commersheez?) boo-lay-vards, strip malls that run a country mile, and faceless, nameless "health care 'campuses'.

How did Janey AdNof know where the people's homes were?

With all that silicon gone she prolly found it easier to stand.

What does she know that a surviving American peasant needs to know? How to blow Ted?

Oh that was low.

Come on. If I can't make the argument I should resort to sarcasm.

Very late to the party but all I have to say is that Mueller and his team of Hillary bots are barking up the wrong tree. I just hope and pray that Trump tells him to go F**K HIMSELF but in better language.

Just spent 3 hours binge watchng a great sports documentary on the New Zealand All Blacks 2016 -2017 Rugby season. Real men doing what real men do. Unlike the pussies in the NFL who couldn't put 30 seconds of running together.

Press secretary's statement at the link.

daddy

Driving home I caught a replay of Dennis Prager's Memorial Day Show, and in reply to a comment from a caller about the murder of a loved one, Dennis mentioned the murder of Abel by his brother Cain in Genesis:

Genesis 4:8
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Genesis 4:9
And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
Genesis 4:10
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
(blood: Heb. bloods)

-------------------

Dennis made a point of stressing that in the original Hebrew the word "blood" is in fact "bloods," and that it is almost always mistranslated when rendered into English. He then said that "Bloods" is the correct rendering because in the meaning in the Hebrew text God is saying "Bloods" because he is referring to all the unborn children of Abel who will never have the possibility of being born now due to the murder of Abel. I had never heard that before and I wonder if you guys have.

That question led me to this site for instance, (Why is “bloods,” translated as “blood,” in Genesis 4:10?) which shows me that there is not an apparent consensus on what the original "bloods" refers to, but at least it seems to confirm that the original word in Hebrew is indeed "Bloods" instead of "Blood."

That All Blacks documentary, JiB.... it's new on Prime right?

Back in Spring 77 we took on the Old Whites (30 and up) from some Caribbean pirates cove, on the pitch at UF in Gainsville. Hotter than stink.

We were all under 21 except one of our loose forwards...he was a 41 year old alum who could run to the moon and back drunk and not break a sweat.

At any rate, we damn near had to use sidearms to kill them off to win the match.

Rugby... a ruffians game played by gentaminz. Cough! Cough!

Methinks the NFL would explode in popularity if it was played without pads and helmets. A much faster game would emerge, advertisers would bail, and only the strong would survive. Just a theory.

The doc is on my watch list. Binge watching Bosch...again...all five seasons. Mrs Kid roped me into a NetFilch movie (her account-- big Rat fan): KODACHROME with Ed Harris.

I played the British Lions senior team when I was in Indonesia. Played them in Jakarta under 99 degree heat at 90 percent humidity. We were used to it they weren't beat them badly. It was a crazy game but our scrum prevailed in rucks and mauls. They couldn't take the heat. Plus our flyhalf and wing played for their national team at one time and our fullback was a Scottish national team member.

Big bucks in Indonesia construction attracts a lot of winners.

I used to have several stops that were granite countertop places. Most granite around here comes up from Brazil. The cradles they build are mostly made from Honduran Mahogany. Now, it's not top quality wood but it's not bad. I actually have a lot of it sitting under a gazebo but I have built a few small tables for my kids. I drove all the way to Knoxville for a six and a half inch helical head Jet joiner. And a metal detector.

One of the craziest things I ever saw was the used shoe bins at Goodwill. I used to deliver there twice a week, at least. They open at 8:00 and it was really close to my office so I would be there between 7:30 and 8:00. People would always be lined up early.

They had a person there that was like a referee. At opening a bell would ring like the stock exchange. People would rush in a start throwing used shoes in shopping carts. They charged by the pound. Middle Easterners, Africans, and Hispanics. I heard they filled shipping containers in some cases.

I really wonder if there's some money laundering going on there.

I cannot imagine getting trade information from the Rolling Stone. That's like someone calling me for help in calculus.

All of this talk about tariffs crippling the econmy seems strange to me. We had tariffs all the way through the 50's and 60's and the US economy did just fine. And, I would point out, during WWII we had hardly any imports, and we survived.

St Germain is an elderflower liqueur. Not cheap, but the flavor goes with a wide range of spirits. I've used it to make cocktails with whiskey, gin, brandy, rum, and vodka.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Pinandpuller,

That was the basic model of my eBay store, although I rarely sold clothing - mostly collectibles and antiques.

I did better going to auctions rather than garage sales - less time consuming. I really did get some great items which I sold at enormous profit.

The best was an on-site auction which had gobs of collector plates. These people must have bankrolled the Franklin Mint. Anyway, the collector plates wee in boxes, stacked on tables and under the tables. I went poking around while they were selling tools, which I wasn't interested in. I found a set of plates which were each solid sterling silver, about 8 ounces each.

So the auctioneer got to the table and asked for bids on "choice", which means you can buy as many as you want at the same price. The rest of the bidders were thinking they were the china plates which had glutted the market, so I outbid everybody at $4.00 each!

10 plates for $40. I sold them on eBay for $120 to $200 during the last big silver run-up, about 5 years ago.

The other deal I remember was buuying a whole box of glasses for $1.00. Most were just junk, but in the box was a ceramic tumbler from Disney's Fantasia china set, which came out about a year after the movie. I sold that sucker for $45.00!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

To clarify on the plates, that was $120 to $200 EACH.

Biggest nemesis we ever faced in my four years was a Tasmanian scrum half for UOhio. He was six 4 about 2and a quarter.

Sumbeench turned the match into a basketball game...could drop kick from any angle 30 yards out to score.... we had to put a man on him at all times cept for scrums and mawls.... their go to play was to start the line movement with a quick pitch back to "Marty" who'd hook around back and take the ball...boom... 31 shots like that.... made seven. Pushed us defensively and offensively. That was in my 2nd year...never saw anything like it again. Heard got his leg broke in three places.

"In a world of limitless freedom “to be the best you can be,” all failures are self-wrought. "

In a Potemkin world where the dutiful serfs are granted freedom from their betters, they are bound to perish in a world very short on cultural incentives to be INDEPENDENT.

The psychic DNA, if you will, seems to have lost the "hell I can't gene"--- the buffer against despair, despondency and other maladies.
