Going South of the Border For Some Fake News

CNN runs a terrifying story about political violence in Mexico and it reminds us that our War on Drugs has become Central America's War On Each Other.

However, although ghastly, the numbers aren't quite as ghastly as they present. The closing paragraph has this:

But it's not just political violence that's spiking in Mexico. The country's homicide rate in 2017 was the highest on record, with more than 25,000 killings registered by the government.

 

And May 2018 was the deadliest month recorded in Mexico, since the government began releasing homicide data.

 

According to the government's most recent report, there has been a total of 20,506 homicides this year, with 4,381 homicides in May alone.

 

Now wait - 20,506 homicides in the first five months of 2018 is about 4,000 per month; that puts Mexico on a pace for roughly 48,000 homicides in 2018, almost double last year's total.

 

Yet their earlier chart comparing monthly homicides for 2016-2018 does not show that 2018 has double the deaths of 2017; the monthly increases from 2017 to 2018 look to be around 20%. Que pasa?

 

 

It turns out that CNN has lost track of their Spanish language skills. The 20,506 homicides for 2018 are both willful ("doloso") and negligent, such as traffic accidents ("culposo").

 

 

For purposes of this story, willful homicides in 2018 have been 13,298, which projects to about 32,000 over twelve months. That is a 28% increase from last years 25,000. Still dreadful, but less so. 

 

We'll see if CNN can sort this out. Meanwhile, the Fake News Spanish Language Team is back on siesta.

Here is another thought that just popped into my mind about Uranium One, the Clinton Foundation, Mueller, Rosenstein, etc.

Pretty much everything we know about the Uranium One scandal comes from the book Clinton Cash written by Peter Schweitzer.

If we assume the allegations in Clinton Cash are based on factual evidence, then a very good question to ask is who was Schweizer’s source for all of that information?

Think about that for a minute. Schweizer published factual evidence of criminal activity by the Clintons, two of the most pqwerful and influential people in the world. How would Schweizer have access to that evidence of criminal activity? There may be multiple answers to that question but one that sticks out is he had a high level source inside the DOJ or FBI who leaked the evidence to him. How high up in the DOJ/FBI would someone need to be to have possession of the Uranium One evidence?

I didn't hear his responses to those three, but I think I would fall off my chair laughing if it turns out these two are good guys after all the tongue baths they're getting from the Dems. If Mueller turns out to be, I may need an inhaler.

Seems to me that whether the homicide issue is attributable to "culture" or to other "root causes" such as, oh I don't know--unchecked political corruption and criminal control of law enforcement, the circumstance that homicides are rampant in Mexico is another of many damned good reasons to BUILD THE WALL.

(We will now be told that WE are racist for saying so and that Mexico's homicide rate isn't really any higher than Baltimore or Chicago).

Almost to the day, 10 years ago, went through the same thing with my MIL in Belgium. Fell in her bathroom on a slippery floor that should not have been installed knowing her balance issues.
