Facial recognition is on the march, which is troubling. But let me add this - suppose that, for the next few years anyway, facial recognition can't separate one person from 500 million, but can suggest a few hundred most likely matches.

Now, overlay that data with cell phone tracking, license plate readers and credit card usage. How often would the authorities, or Google/Facebook be able to determine with near-certainty that a particular photo matched to a specific person?

At a wild, I-hope-I'm-kidding-but-maybe-not guess, urban Asian youth might have excellent privacy protection since they are unlikely to be driving and, well, all look alike to us. And AI. And Harvard.

Throw in Uber and Lyft data as well as Metrocard usage and it would take a determined effort to stay off of surveillance.

Courts will no doubt rule on stuff like this, if they haven't already - e.g., evidence from license plate scanners on public roads does not require a warrant because there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. One might think that walking down a public street would lead to the same result.

It is not necessary to believe that (a) women shouldn’t be fighter pilots, in order to believe (b) lowering standards for the sake of quotas is a bad idea. Of course, you may believe both (a) and (b), but it is (b) that gets people killed.

Affirmative action quotas in military promotion boards are one of the worst kept secrets at the Pentagon. Its been DOD policy for decades.

Military promotions boards work something like this. 1000 candidates are eligible for promotion to the next rank. Only 60% will get promoted. The promotion board reviews all the personnel records, performance reports, etc and ranks everyone 1-1000. After they get the initial ranking they look at the race and gender of the top 600. If the top 600 don't have enough minorities and females in it, then the promotion board adjusts the rankings and moves someone who was originally ranked 601-1000 up at the expense of a white male officer who was in the original top 600.

Promotion boards are conducted under a shroud of secrecy and the board members will get punished if they violate the NDA and divulge how the quota system works.

Fired FBI Director James Comey refused to appear before Congress on Monday to talk about his handling of the Clinton email investigation, and his fired deputy, Andrew McCabe, asserted his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination, Sen. Charles E. Grassley said.

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch also declined to show up for a major hearing where the Senate Judiciary Committee was looking into the inspector general’s report detailing major bungles in Mr. Comey’s handling of the Clinton investigation.

Mr. Comey’s lawyer said he was out of the country — though Mr. Grassley, committee chairman, said he saw Mr. Comey was in Iowa over the weekend, visiting a key state in presidential campaigning.

“He has time for book tours and television interview, but apparently no time to assist this committee,” said Mr. Grassley, an Iowa Republican.

He said he had sought to compel the three to show up to testify, but Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, blocked him. Under committee rules, the ranking Democrat must agree with the chairman in order to issue a subpoena.

Fairly certain the bombshell text from Strzok was always part of the IG report. It just wasn’t made public until the IG report was formally released. Since that bombshell text can be used as evidence in a criminal trial it was almost certainly not provided to Congress with the original batch of text messages that we have known about for months because Trump and his team did not want the info getting leaked to the public yet.
