Jane,

Yes I did. Matt Parziale. Ex-pro and got his amateur status back. Its just a damn tough golf course for any amateur much less a professional but he did as good as you can do unless you are DJ:)

I saw him playing 18 as I was getting ready to leave.

Left Elliott in the Trophy Club. He's out there somewhere.

Tom R

OL,

I don’t think your definition of a troll is the same definition everyone else uses.

Don’t you proclaim to be a Trump supporter? If so doesn’t Manafort being a member of the Swamp concern you?

Saying Manafort is “dirty as hell” is exactly the same as saying the Clintons are “dirty as hell”. Plenty of evidence for people to come to that conclusion despite neither of them having it proven in court.

Why would you say “so what?” in regards to Manafort’s formal connections with Tony Podesta? Non-cynics consider that established fact a key piece of evidence.

Another Bob

"who recommended Manafort to Trump for the convention"

You're touching on my upstream point a little there MM.

Maybe I'l try it more cynically: I'm not at all sure we should be expending MAGA capital in the defense of Manafort. That does not mean I don't want him to get a fair trial, or that I think he's been treated fairly.

Kevlar Kid

It was for "potential witness" tampering.

were they witnesses or not?

or do they mean, they weren't sure if they would be called to testify?

rich

iirc it was roger stone among others to bring him on as the convention whip. i think that was the time that Conservative Inc was going overdrive to cock up the convention and the Trump Campaign needed a hardass to break some arms.

and doubly good point about the Podesta Bros ... if Manafort's conduct is so dangerous that it warrants this treatment-why aren't the Podesta Bros and everyone else involved with the "European" Ukrainian lobbying effort-the actual conduct charged?

daddy

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge Manafort ____________ is

1) a Swamp creature

2) dirty as hell and

3) business partner with Tony Podesta.

How many names could we plug into that blank box?

10?

50?

500?

5,000?

Elizabeth Holmes

I sincerely hope my jury is filled with folks whose intellect is on par with the members of this board.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

I was being a bit facetious. I need to put (sarcasm) after posts, I fear.

Really, it's a travesty when we don't even know (and I am not certain Manifort knows either) WHO the people are he isn't supposed to talk to.

I used to think that I would be satisfied with a plea bargain in which Hillary and Obama retired from public life.

I am now totally on board jailing them for life. Executions if they are proven to have been involved with murder.

Another Bob

Jane, I think that was Mickelson saying he's had enough golf for the weekend.

Does the open pay appearance fees for the top players? Wouldn't think so. You probably heard some of the Fox commentariat speculating that it was a protest about course setup.

Maybe better if he simply withdraw

GUS, we went to Pt Reyes yesterday evening to watch the sun go down...kind of a crap shoot...but we came back same night. Anya loves the beach. da bitch luvsda beach. thanks!

going to the movies this afternoon. tbd. noah is a great person to see movies with...he's in the creative aspect of the biz.

Sunday will be total chill time. hope you have a good one

Kev

Jane

Yeah AB, the frustration was clear. But he kept going.

Now I have to watch for Elliott.

Jim Eagle

Jane,

Saw it like you on the tube. I am home now.

My theory on Phil's little rules defiance is that he is 48 today. We sung Happy Birthday to him at the first hole:) That known and said, I believe he felt he had to shoot a very low score to get back in the hunt. US Open is what he is missing for a grand slam career. He has been bridesmade, I think, 4 or 5 times. At his age he is running out of time to get the US Open ticket on his CV. So, missing that putt told him any chance he had today to shoot low disappeared and so did his chance at 48.

Now some will say, but Jack, he is running out of holes anyway. Not necessarily since I have seen days like today turn into monster weather days tomorrow. Who konws but I think Phil knew he was toast.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Boy is it hot here! Mid 90's with high humidity. My daughter cut the grass this morning in the front yard. when I came home I noticed she missed a rectangle about 10 X 10 between the house and some shrubs which border the street.

She noticed it right before I got home. She said the sun was so bright she didn't notice. She can cut it when she does the back yard tomorrow morning.

Captain Hate

Does the open pay appearance fees for the top players?

No way; you're either eligible on your own dime or in the gallery. Phil knows that the USGA makes the one major that has eluded him deliberately as difficult as possible. He was just cranky on his birthday.

Pinandpuller

So when a prosecutor or cop sits down with a witness and goes thru their testimony that's not tampering? What happened to all those Satanic day cares?

Daddy,

A lot.

Another Bob is correct. IMO Trump supporters should not be worried about Manafort. Until proven otherwise my opinion is he was likely a plant placed inside the Trump campaign. His past history lobbying in favor of Russia was well known. He was a perfect person to help promote the “Russian collusion” false narrative.

Jane

Makes sense JIB.

Jim Eagle

Saturday is always called "moving" day in golf. How do you move up on a course like Shinnecock when the wind is getting up and the greens are drying out? You don't. But if you are the leader you can move down for the same reason the others can move up. Makes my prediction of -1 or even par winning more probable.

Captain Hate

Listening to Joe Buck yammer about Phil's faux pas is one of the downsides of Fox's coverage.

and doubly good point about the Podesta Bros ... if Manafort's conduct is so dangerous that it warrants this treatment-why aren't the Podesta Bros and everyone else involved with the "European" Ukrainian lobbying effort-the actual conduct charged?

There is a simple explanation for why the Podesta brothers have not been charged yet: Manafort is refusing to cooperate with Mueller and testify against them.

James D.

Manafort is being prosecuted (and persecuted) as a Lesson to Us All.

No question. Everything about the Mueller witch hunt is illegitimate.

I don’t care what Manafort did or what he is. He could be Jack the Ripper and I would still want to see him free as long as it’s Mueller and his corrupt, treasonous team running the prosecution.

Jim Eagle

CH,

Don't get me going on Joe Suck as a golf commentator. Bad enough to have ruined baseball for me but the guy has no idea on the game of golf.

But see what I mean about moving day at Shinnecock. Moving down not up:)

henry

Having people tossed in jail on bs procedural crap pre trial is not making America great again. The is classic Special Prosecutor overreach. Doesn't matter if the people in question includes Manafort or Podesta for that matter. Granted, if Manafort was by the side of the road with a flat tire, I'd laugh on the way by. This is something else though.

that is irrelevant Tom R-there is no investigation into FISA abuse and no one from the Obama administration is under investigation ... this is the actual conduct in question (and why Manafort's ridiculous 10 Million dollar bail and house arrest was revoked)

>>>Then, last week, Mueller's team alleged they found evidence Manafort had tried to coach potential witnesses.
On Friday, they told the judge Manafort was a "danger to the community" and that he had committed a crime while out on release: obstruction of justice.
Prosecutor Greg Andres described the following scene to the court from February 24, a day after Manafort's co-defendant, his longtime deputy Rick Gates, flipped:
A man was driving with his wife through rural Italy when his phone rang. Manafort identified himself to the man, Alan Friedman, a public relations consultant he once worked with.
"I need to give you a heads up about Hapsburg," Manafort told him three times. "Have you seen any article about Hapsburg?"
Manafort was referring to a project he and Friedman had worked on years ago to bring influential Europeans to the US to push pro-Ukrainian politics while the group posed as independent experts. The project, dubbed the Hapsburg group, was among Manafort's efforts to skirt foreign lobbying laws, prosecutors allege.
Friedman turned down the radio as Manafort spoke, Andres said, then hung up the phone a minute and a half into the call. Manafort tried several more times to reach him in the following days.
Andres said prosecutors now know Manafort used multiple ways to communicate with former colleagues like Friedman and Konstantin Kilimnik, a Moscow-based associate who's also charged in the alleged witness tampering: In addition to phone calls and half a dozen encrypted messaging apps, Manafort uses a system with email called "foldering," where multiple people have access to an account and write messages to one another as drafts, but the emails are never sent.
"This was a sustained campaign over a five-week period to use multiple numbers, applications and people," Andres said in court about the witness tampering allegations.
Manafort's lawyer Richard Westling argued that Manafort had no way to know Friedman would be a witness in the case. Westling asked the judge to simply issue a more specific order for Manafort to follow while out on bail.
"This will not happen again," Westling said.
But the witness tampering allegations, which also resulted in new criminal charges, were enough Friday for Manafort to lose his house arrest privileges.<<<

Yanukovych was playing both sides against the middle and lost big time (trying to butter up the Euros for a sweetheart deal and double crossing them with sweetheart deals with Russia ... the EU and Russians were playing a double game too.

How badly did he play his hand that he chose exile in Russia as his country exploded into violence as part of Obama's World Failure Tour.

Don't much care about Ukrainian politics though, or the soap opera of vaguely Slavic corruptocrats, and don't understand how it relates to the 2016 Presidential Election or Mueller's actual scope?

Old Lurker

Why are people charged with non violent crimes even confined to homes with ankle bracelets before they are convicted of anything by a jury? Why are biased political prosecutors and biased political judges given that weapon in the first place?

Serious question.

Still playing catch-up, but this “scenario” from the last thread caught my eye:

“Lawyers for one litigant are forced to disclose some papers. So they load up two tractor trailers with banker's boxes of documents and ship them to opposing counsel.”

Isn’t that exactly what Tub Dive did when asked for her emails? Instead of putting them in electronic format, she put 35,000 pages in boxes and sent them over. A big “f you” to the investigators, not that they really cared, apparently.

"Someone must have made a false accusation against Josef K., for he was arrested one morning without having done anything wrong"

Different Book, but similar.

At the height of the media attention during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, US President Bill Clinton reportedly referred to Koestler's novel, telling an aide, "I feel like a character in the novel Darkness at Noon", and, "I am surrounded by an oppressive force that is creating a lie about me and I can't get the truth out."[36]

"Why are people charged with non violent crimes even confined to homes with ankle bracelets before they are convicted of anything by a jury? Why are biased political prosecutors and biased political judges given that weapon in the first place?"

Because it makes the prosecutors smile, flex their muscles and realize how important they are.

It seems to me Manafort can try and turn any witness he wants and the DA can try and prove he did it at the trial. He can't jail him for doing something he hasn't proven - oh except he did.

Why did Blago go away for 14 years for talking to someone on the phone while Hillary walks away for mailing classified info on her home server? Depends on your relationship with obama I guess.

Obama weaponized the federal government, and it will stay that way forever unless Trump can bring it down.

The point with that analogy was to see if some of our resident cynics are willing to ignore the rule of law because of their political beliefs. There are numerous Lege dwellers here who are incensed that multiple Obama officials have not been indicted already and frogmarched off to jail. Some of them are making an issue about Manafort’s bond getting revoked and him getting sent to jail.

For me I’m a big fan of the rule of law. What does the rule of law dictate should be done when an indicted person violates the terms of their bond? Some people don’t want the rule of law to apply to Manafort because of their political beliefs about Mueller. I was just curious to know what their opinion would be if indicted Obama officials did the same exact thing Manafort did to get his bond revoked.
