Just a reminder that regardless of what the media says Congress does not have a right to every bit of evidence the DOJ might have uncovered.
Exceptions to the rule include any information that is being used in a criminal case or has been presented to a grand jury. There is now proof of what has been pretty obvious for some time now, there is a grand jury empaneled in this case hearing evidence.
Don't know if that's the case here but if you read the article, I know that's a big ask, the Congressional staffer admits deep in the article that Rosenstein was likely reacting to Congressional threats to subpoena him and if so this really is noting more than dueling shots across the bow.
Trump can fire anyone in the Executive branch he wants at any time. He can also declassify any information he wants at any time. He hasn't done either in this case and the story is 6 months old.
IG report will be out on Thursday afternoon. Expect to see more bullshit stories between now and then trying to get people distracted.

A bit of transcript from Tucker's Show on Rod Rosenstein threatening to subpoena Senate Aides:
Tucker: ...I have to ask you about this braking news just out.. Katherine Herridge has a story saying that on January 10th (2018) Deputy Atty General Rosenstein went up to the Hill and met with Repub members of the House Intel Committee, had a dispute with them, and threatened them with a Subpoena of their E-Mails and phone records. This is what one of them said: "I read it as a not so veiled threat to unleash the full prosecutorial power of the State against us." DOJ on background has confirmed that that did happen. What is that about?
Jeff Sessions: Well I don't know that they confirmed that exactly. In fact the FBI Director, the senior Ethics Attorney who was in the room says that that is a mischaracterization of what occurred, and it also I think indicates that there's been a breakdown of relationships when in fact since January a great deal of progress has been made. We understand in this Department that we are accountable to the President, we are accountable to Congress, and we need to be cooperative with them to produce as many documents as rationally and legally and properly as can be produced. and we've made tremendous progress in that regard, really.
Tucker: Did the Deputy Attorney General threaten to subpoena the E-Mail and phone records of members of the House Intel Committee?
Session: Well I was not in the room and I can't speak to what occurred. All I can say is that Chris Wray, the Director of the FBI and the Senior Ethics Attorney of the FBI was there and others and they did not see it in that same fashion.
Tucker: So as a factual matter you don't think that that happened?
Sessions: I'm confident that deputy Rosenstein, 28 years in the Department of Justice, did not improperly threaten anyone on that occasion, but we do believe that we have tried to be cooperative with them and have made progress as the months have gone by, and in fact have had some good relationships with the Members of Congress.
Tucker: OK.
=====================
Boy, I buy that from Sessions as much as Tucker bought it from Sessions.

Isn't the issue in contention about national security concerns re the identity of somebody named in the docs Nunes has subpoenaed?
The DOJ hasn't cited any commitments under law re grand jury testimony etc as the reason for refusing to comply.
"The Justice Department has refused to provide the documents. Intelligence officials say the material could jeopardize the source, a U.S. citizen who has aided the special counsel investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 campaign."
But what does Rosita say? Does anyone have access to a link featuring DOJ's official reply?
"Nope. And you can't make me!" is not an official reply.
This US citizen: is it likely to be the disappeared Stevie Halper?
Nunes has been clear he's not interested in the identity of any person the DOJ seeks to protect from being exposed by the subpoena.

I posted earlier that the two sides of this compliance tete-a-tete between Rosita and Nunes was merely rope-a-dope before the bell tolls ahead of the release of the IG report.

Saying somebody present didn't see things the same way as those alleging there was a threat made by that pencil-necked DOJ Saint Rosita: is that a no or a down the middle veteran of the senate LOIA deflection.
Ya, it's not a lie. But it smacks of hearsay since AG Sessions wasn't in the room.
Also, the point the AG makes about relationships improving and "progress" on releasing documents.... is that some kind of pat on the head?

The federal agent who questioned Ali Watkins about her sources is now being investigated.
The actions of a Customs and Border Protection agent who allegedly confronted a reporter covering national security issues about her confidential sources are being examined by the CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the agency said in a statement Tuesday.
The agent, Jeffrey A. Rambo, contacted journalist Ali Watkins last June as the Trump administration was ramping up its investigations of unauthorized leaks to reporters, and he identified himself as a government agent.

This a truly stupid article, but I expect someone is going to use this kind of thinking to obscure trade statistics.
Some whacko economist has totaled up US exports, then added to that all foreign production of American multi-national companies, to come up with a number that shows that the US has huge trade surplus with the rest of the world.
SO if Apple manufactures a phone in China, using Chinese labor and sells that to a Chinese citizen, it should be included in the above equation. It's not imported into China, but should be included in "US sales abroad."
That's just silly.

One for TK:
According to ancient Hawaiian tradition, the quickest way to appease PELE, the volcano God, and have the lava fires stop is to make a human sacrifice into her fires.
According to tradition, that needs to be a celebrated leader who was born in Hawaii.
Obama quickly announced he was actually born in Kenya, and has the Birth Certificate to prove it.

Say what you will about California, the last 20 years living here have boosted our personal and business balance sheets through the roof.
Every day Mrs Kid and I outrun the fastest sabertooth.
Lotsa people, liberal and conservative, don't get that because they subscribe to the dying economic model of exchanging time for money.
The amount of consumer debt most people carry, adding in student loans for worthless and labor market irrelevant degrees, makes it impossible for those exiting the state to live anywhere gainfully.
Would be interesting to look at the solvency status of the 46% vs the 54% group.
I know a lot of people who left Califas for Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Florida, Alabama, Oregano, Texas and other states only to come back due to the culture shock. I lived in three states while being gone from my native state for 25 years.
It had changed a lot. But my reasons for living here did not. Not one iota. Home is home no matter what Pelosi or Bercerra or Feinstein say or do.
There is a sea change coming. And my money will be invested here amidst the disaster that California allegedly is. Still one of the top 10 economies in the world. If someone supporting a family cannot figure out a way to punch their spigot into THAT, then they deserve to trade time for money the rest of their lives.
