A Big Win For The Department Of Hail Marys

Good golly, this story about the boys soccer team trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand for nearly two weeks (and counting) is amazing. 

Finding them was one thing. Getting boys with no diving experience out of a tricky flooded underground cave is another. And the caves will probably be flooded for the rest of the rainy season, so another four months.

Lots more details in the earlier coverage. I question this:

“Even if they can’t swim, a rescue diver should be able to guide them along,” Dr. Lavonas said. “The diver will have lights. Obviously, these are young boys and they’re terrified. It’s not going to be an easy rescue, but it should be O.K.”

"They're terrified"? Has he met any boys, because this sounds like adult logic to me. C'mon, they're invincible, immortal, and incapable of guessing just how difficult an underwater scuba dive can be. So don't tell 'em! Project confidence and make it work.

My routine ultrasound of my aortic aneurysm is today. It never seems to grow so I don't imagine any changes will be detected. Sometimes I pray that it gets slightly larger so I qualify for surgery.

Somehow I lucked out and was blessed with an aneurysm that is large enough to put me on blood pressure meds and hand me a weight lifting and hard work restriction that is completely opposite of the type of person I was when I built my business and supported my family.

Two separate cardiologists have said they wouldn't crack me open unless the aneurysm shows a little more growth. So until then I am the guy that can't lift more than 30lbs.

In the meantime I will stick to the less stressful version of JOM.
