Captain Hate

Foreigner's one of those group who made me roll my eyes but when their songs would come on the classic crock stations in my car I wouldn't automatically hit another preset.

Captain Hate

So that's where the blue note catalog comes from.

They've been bought and sold many times. I don't know if they're putting out new stuff now because I think the last time I bought a new record from them was in the 90s.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Some idiot decided last year to change the AAA team in Gwinnett county (ATL suburbs - other side of town from the big boy stadium) from the BRAVES to the Gwinnett Stripers as they are close to Lake Lanier. WTF do fish have to do with Braves?

One casualty is no more tomahawk chop at the AAA franchise. I'm betting the next move will be to change the "Braves" name to something similar so they can 'retire' the chop w/o causing a furor. F'n libs.

Captain Hate

Even Hanoi Jane briefly did the chop when she was hitched to Ted.

GUS

Steph, my best friend from High School lives in Gwinnett. He LOVES STRIPPERS. I think his fave is STORMY something or other.
DACULA is his hometown.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

I don't care enough about Foreigner, Boston or Journey to pay to see their concerts. Journey was here playing at the Big boy Braves stadium this week with Def Leopard, but $99 a tix and still a NOPE from me. We went to a Journey cover band concert last Friday for $80 for a table for 4 with excellent craft beer, no lines for the bathroom and no drunks barfing or weed smoke to deal with. Close enough for me.

BTW the craft beer Creature Comfort was so excellent I went for a beer at the club last night instead of my usual scotch. Got the beer itch back again.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

LOL Dacula is about 15 minutes from me. Excellent golf course up there. Trophy Club of Apalachee.

Hole #5 is lovingly referred to as the Great Wall of China as you tee off from the women's tees at the base of the cliff and it's about 85 feet uphill to the hole and a cliff face and stream if you miss the green. The drop zone is about 10 feet right of the women's tees so not really any relief. I saw a HS chick get a 19 on that par 3 one time. Yike!

Strawman Cometh

Going through my LPs prompted me to find that and put it up, but I recall the Neil Young quote "Listening to digital music is like viewing a masterpiece painting through a screen window". Myself, I don't have the ear to know if that is true. My youtube feed is putting up some great stuff behind Dave Mason, including Prince's While my Guitfiddle is triggered. I remember DOT posting that one.

narciso

Well the red skins were once the Boston braves, so there is always potential for microagressions, why so the fish get the hook anyways.

Captain Hate

Steph, do you know which specific beer you had?

https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34456/

Those ratings are pretty high so obviously Creature Comforts is a fave of my fellow sots.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

I had a pro organizer in last month to assist with cleaning out clutter and toss stuff out, and she had the gall to ask if I wanted to keep my LPs. Almost tossed her then!

Some of those suckers are worth $$ in vinyl shops. Don't listen to them, but they are in pristine condition as are the covers.

GUS

Steph, Journey and DEF ZEPPELIN played here at SUMMERFEST, the biggest music festival in the WORLD a few days ago. I've seen them for free and actually been on the bill with one or the other a couple times. How do bands like that command headline status for 30,000 at RIDICULOUS PRICES, after years in the wilderness.

IN OTHER NEWS. Cheap Trick plays SUMMERFEST, on the second biggest stage tomorrow night at 10:30.

I'll be there. I don't have to pay.

Captain Hate

Neil Young is very nutty about sound. Even my buds with high end systems think he's lost his marbles.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Reclaimed Rye. Loved it.

I've never really paid attention to what beers taste like x or y or z (pilsner v ale v porters etc), but have always liked lagers and ales over others. My go to used to be Sam Adams if there were no craft beers available, but their politics sux so been scouting for a new choice. Now to find some craft beer places in our neck of the woods. Out here the consider Blue Moon and Sweetwater 'craft beers.'

Strawman Cometh

Hey, Dave Mason is one of ours and is touring:
https://www.davemasonmusic.com/tour

GUS

Tomorrow I get to see CHEAP TRICK with my son. It will be my 75th time seeing Cheap TRICK, as best that I can account for. We are backstage, as guests, and my Son, will be reaquainted with the guys in the band. The show is LATE...10:30 PM.
We went to MASS today at 4:30, and life is good.
This coming week at work is AWESOME. I'm getting some contracts signed and some BILLS paid.

LIFE IS GOOD.

I prayed for TK, and for SBW and for virtually every on here on JOM at Mass tonight.

I mean it. God bless all of you.

Captain Hate

Reclaimed Rye must be popular because there are at least two variants of it (those places are notoriously bad at updating their websites). Glad you found something good.

Strawman Cometh

Love ya, Narc, not sure what you are communicating at 12:45

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Awesome Gus!

I've found over the last few years I can't abide big concerts as I'd prefer the fans all 'get off my lawn!' Too many idiots!

Good friend of mine from HS (he was my assigned football player for locker decorating, TP rolling of his house and stuff for cheerleading/drill team) is/was a tour manager or some such title, and he flew all over the world working Aerosmith, Lady GaGa, Prince, and other big names.

He'd do the entire tour with them and has the most fabulous pics with the members from Australia, Germany Japan, etc. He retired when he and his wife were flown home from the Aerosmith tour when she got sick... she died two weeks later from cancer and all the Tyler's turned out for her funeral. Stu Baby still has the contacts for concert tix if I want to go, but I'd rather avoid the crowds. Just getting too old I guess.

narciso

Changing the name, won't end the agitation, even to the bassomatic 76ers.

GUS

Strawman, Dave Mason, is worth seeing. His own personal guitar skills and talent are worth the price of admission.

Captain Hate

The Boston Braves are now in Atlanta after a stop in Milwaukee.

GUS

Thank you Steph. My son is a music FIEND. He works at his music every single day.
Sound like his DADDY, when I was his age.

Good to see you Steph, GOD BLESS YOU.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Yep. And the big boy Braves are playing a series with Milwaukee this weekend. 1/1 split so far I think.

The triple A team is in last place while the big boys are in first, but the big boys have been poaching all the best players so far this season, so whatcha gonna do?

Captain Hate

Time for bed.

Nytol.

GUS

Yes CAPN, a STOP in Milwaukee and a WORLD SERIES WIN vs THE YANKEES. IN 1957. WORLD SERIES again in 1958. LOSS. By 1965, even despite the best attendance in baseball, they MOVED TO ATLANTA.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Good to see you too, Gus.

Might actually play some golf tomorrow if the weather holds. It's been 2 1/2 years since I touched a club, but I'm trying to get back into shape after that awful surgery mess and recovery and need to do something to start back to getting in some semblance of shape.

Niteall!

GUS

Steph, the MILWAUKEE BREWERS are in 1st place in the NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL.

GUS

Thank you for your kind words Steph. I hope you are well healthy and strong. My life is good and I've loved golf my entire life.
Sweet Steph, I will never admit anything that could slow me down. I love the obstacles that I must endure. I think you are likewise.
NEVER LET THE SEE YOU SWEAT. Whatever does not KILL ME, merely makes me STRONGER.

God bless you Stephanie.

House Speaker Paul Ryan called the recent allegations raised against Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, "serious" in a statement on Friday.

"These are serious allegations and issues," a spokesman for Ryan told USA Today in an email. "The university has rightfully initiated a full investigation into the matter. The speaker will await the findings of that inquiry."

Anyone know how soon Ryan is leaving?

They have begun the rescue of the boys in the cave. The rescue is supposed to take up to 2 days. 17 divers have gone in according to the Australian papers.

CH:

that Dave Mason LP is "Alone Together", came out in 1970 during freshman year of high school.

his rythm guitar on the studio version of Hendrix' "All Along the Watchtower" brought him to my attention... fifth or sixth grade...i was taking lessons back then.

my favorite by him: Baby Please

saw this done live at Keystone in Berkeley. Gerald Johnson sat in. Back in 73. they tore it up and closed with a 20 minute rendition of BP. Dave brought 2 young guitar players out for solos. no one wanted to go home. Chuck Rainey plays bass on the studio cut (LP: It's Like You Never Left-- Leon Russell and S. Wonder appear on a cut "The Lonely One").

i'm into Mason a lil ;) as for Winwood, "I'm a Man" broke into my brain in 67 (age 12)... Traffic's "Welcome to the Canteen" was a staple vinyl spin during after study midnight smoke outs in college.

my favorite rendition of a Winwood tune that somebody here at JOM spun one night not too long ago, featuring Clapton and Derek Trucks:

Can't Find My Way Home

here's a Blind Faith live version some great early Clapton on here. Ginger Baker on drums: Live "Can't"

that is all LOL

Every day I have to marvel at what the billionaires and FOX News pulled off.
They got working whites to hate the very people that want them to have more pay, clean air, water, free healthcare and the power to fight back against big banks & big corps. It’s truly remarkable.

Thinking about the families too of those international divers who have volunteered their considerable expertise for this very dangerous mission. PS. Same article, but about the shooting down of Gary Power's U2 (I heard this many years ago during a lecture by Gary Power's):

"The B-70 went through an immensely successful test program. The USAF had an epoch-making aircraft on its hands, one that would render every other bomber immediately obsolete as soon as it was operational.

No matter – on March 28, 1961 the program was “reoriented” toward testing and development – a sneaky method of cancelling it without saying so.

The ostensible reason was that the downing of the U-2 over the USSR on May I, 1960 demonstrated that it was too vulnerable to Soviet SAMs. (In fact, it wasn’t until years later that the public learned the Gary Powers’ U-2 had flamed out at its cruising altitude of 70,000 ft. and had glided down to 40,000 ft. before is was struck by a SAM)..."
