In the course of relentlessly not covering the Bruce Ohr non-story Katie Benner of the flailing NY Times swerves into creative fiction (my emphasis):
Ms. Ohr’s contract work for Fusion GPS on matters related to Russia has prompted an unsubstantiated theory that the origins of the special counsel’s investigation are tainted. And emails that the Justice Department shared with Congress showing that in 2016 Mr. Ohr was in contact with Mr. Steele and with Glenn Simpson, the founder of Fusion GPS, have only added momentum to that theory.
Republicans in Congress say those emails suggest that Mr. Steele and Fusion GPS, which was hired to dig up dirt on Mr. Trump by a wealthy Republican donor and later by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, worked inappropriately with the F.B.I. and the Justice Department.
They have also argued that the government inappropriately used the dossier, paid for in part by the Democrats, to apply for a warrant to wiretap Carter Page, a former Trump campaign official.
Paid for "in part" by the Democrats?!? Not even the Times has been reporting that - here is Kenneth Vogel from Oct 25, 2017:
The Trump Dossier: What We Know and Who Paid for It
...
Who paid for it?
During the Republican primaries, a research firm called Fusion GPS was hired by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website, to unearth potentially damaging information about Mr. Trump. The Free Beacon — which was funded by a major donor supporting Mr. Trump’s rival for the party’s nomination, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — told Fusion GPS to stop doing research on Mr. Trump in May 2016, as Mr. Trump was clinching the Republican nomination.
After Mr. Trump secured the nomination, Fusion GPS was hired on behalf of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign and the D.N.C. by their law firm, Perkins Coie, to compile research about Mr. Trump, his businesses and associates — including possible connections with Russia. It was at that point that Fusion GPS hired Mr. Steele, who has deep sourcing in Russia, to gather information.
The WaPo has a similar timeline showing that Steele was hired after the Democrats picked up the Fusion-GPS ball.
The timing and funding of the Steele dossier is not controversial. How can the Times be mis-reporting this at this late date?
Right. Why ask why?
How about ersatz? Sound more urban that way.

Three people have been arrested in connection to the synthetic marijuana, according to a report from WABC in New York which also ups the number of the afflicted to 95:
3 arrests after 95 overdose on synthetic marijuana at Connecticut park
Three people have been arrested after a rash of overdoses blamed on a suspected bad batch of synthetic marijuana sickened nearly 100 people in New Haven, Connecticut.
New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell told WTNH that an additional 19 people overdosed in the city on Thursday, bringing the total to 95 overdoses in the past two days.
The victims started falling ill Wednesday morning, mostly on the New Haven Green near Yale University.
“Do not come down to the Green and purchase this K2,” Campbell said. “It is taking people out very quickly, people having respiratory failure. Don’t put your life in harm.”
No deaths have been reported, and officials said most patients have been discharged.
“We literally had people running around the Green providing treatment,” said Rick Fontana, the city’s emergency operations director.
Yale-New Haven Hospital Dr. Kathryn Hawk said some patients tested positive for the powerful opioid fentanyl, but it appears most of the overdoses were caused by a potent batch of straight “K2” synthetic marijuana.

For daddy and our other archaeology buffs. The stern of the USS Abner Read, a WW II Navy destroyer, has been discovered off of Kiska Island.
It is believed that the Abner Read came into contact with a Japanese mine during the Aleutian Campaign as it was patrolling off the island of Kiska. The aft 70' of the ship was blown off and sunk with great loss of life, but through amazing seamanship and skill, the ship was saved, only to be destroyed by a kamikaze during the battle of Leyte Gulf.

Boy, do I know that green in New Haven. Up the street from our hotel we always stayed at when Frederick went to Yale for testing and summer camp.
Henry and Catsmeat know it. Nothing but bums, homeless, and crazie people around there. At Frederick's Yale camp it was out of bounds. Only areas in-bounds were north and west and east of the campus like the Shops.
Not surprising in the least that it happened there.

Kev, that "anti-virus is dead" article has a dramatic title, but is on target. Current exploits have more to do with exotic tracking cookies and web connect related info theft behind the scenes. There are products that address some of this. AdBlock type products are somewhat prophylactic in blocking malignant adware, until you agree to the GDPR cookies prompt which lets all the tracking in through the front door. There are products which chase and clear these persistent trackers... but they lag the malware tech. Password / authorization managers help, but the best technique available there has been compromised (architecture issues... really sucks), and no good replacement in sight.
It's dangerous out there.
