Three people have been arrested in connection to the synthetic marijuana, according to a report from WABC in New York which also ups the number of the afflicted to 95:

3 arrests after 95 overdose on synthetic marijuana at Connecticut park

Three people have been arrested after a rash of overdoses blamed on a suspected bad batch of synthetic marijuana sickened nearly 100 people in New Haven, Connecticut.

New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell told WTNH that an additional 19 people overdosed in the city on Thursday, bringing the total to 95 overdoses in the past two days.

The victims started falling ill Wednesday morning, mostly on the New Haven Green near Yale University.

“Do not come down to the Green and purchase this K2,” Campbell said. “It is taking people out very quickly, people having respiratory failure. Don’t put your life in harm.”

No deaths have been reported, and officials said most patients have been discharged.

“We literally had people running around the Green providing treatment,” said Rick Fontana, the city’s emergency operations director.

Yale-New Haven Hospital Dr. Kathryn Hawk said some patients tested positive for the powerful opioid fentanyl, but it appears most of the overdoses were caused by a potent batch of straight “K2” synthetic marijuana.

Frau Steingehirn

Think Progress is beyond "fake news."

A Georgia election board proposed shutting down seven of the nine polling locations in an overwhelmingly black rural county. It’s the sort of blatantly illegal idea that would have been swiftly dismissed by federal courts in an age when an openly racist president was not appointing judges to the federal bench.

Nevertheless, there is a very real risk this plot could succeed if Judge Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court.
...
Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of Randolph County residents do not own cars, meaning that many of these voters could have to walk more than 3 hours to get to a polling place. Even voters with car could have to drive 10 to 20 minutes to reach a polling place under the board’s proposal.
....
Black voters may soon need to go to extraordinary lengths to cast a ballot, while white voters will be able to just stroll into a nearby polling place and vote without much effort.

A pox on those who willfully tell such lies.
(Intentionally no link provided.)

Where I work there's an intranet bulletin board with various discussion topics.

Someone complained today that they keep finding wet floors and counter tops around the rest room sinks. There is no way in hell I'm going to bring up one of the causes for this, one that happens 5 times a day.

matt - deplore me if you must

For daddy and our other archaeology buffs. The stern of the USS Abner Read, a WW II Navy destroyer, has been discovered off of Kiska Island.

It is believed that the Abner Read came into contact with a Japanese mine during the Aleutian Campaign as it was patrolling off the island of Kiska. The aft 70' of the ship was blown off and sunk with great loss of life, but through amazing seamanship and skill, the ship was saved, only to be destroyed by a kamikaze during the battle of Leyte Gulf.

Paul Manafort Is Being Held in Tiny Prison Cell with No Reading Material or TV During Trial

Paul Manafort was Donald Trump’s campaign manager for two months. Now he must be punished.

The US government is holding Paul Manafort in a tiny prison cell during his trial with no reading material and no television.

Paul Manafort faces 305 years in prison for tax evasion charges — a crime that typically has an average sentence of 1.5 years.

henry

Kev, that "anti-virus is dead" article has a dramatic title, but is on target. Current exploits have more to do with exotic tracking cookies and web connect related info theft behind the scenes. There are products that address some of this. AdBlock type products are somewhat prophylactic in blocking malignant adware, until you agree to the GDPR cookies prompt which lets all the tracking in through the front door. There are products which chase and clear these persistent trackers... but they lag the malware tech. Password / authorization managers help, but the best technique available there has been compromised (architecture issues... really sucks), and no good replacement in sight.

It's dangerous out there.

The 2nd Special Counsel, Assange, & The 'Free' Press

Two thirds of Americans want the Mueller investigation (inquisition, someone called it) over by the midterm elections. Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has said that if Mueller wants to interview Trump, he’ll have to do so before September 1, because the Trump camp doesn’t want to be the one to unduly influence the elections. Mueller himself appears to lean towards prolonging the case, and that may well be with an eye on doing exactly that.

And there’s something else as well: as soon as the investigation wraps up, Trump will demand a second special counsel, this time to scrutinize the role the ‘other side’ has played in the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath.

He’s determined to get it, and he’ll fire both Jeff Sessions and Rod Rosenstein if they try to stand in his way.

There have of course been tons of signs that it’s going to happen, but we got two significant ones just the past few days.

The first is the termination of John Brennan’s security clearance. It looks impossible that no additional clearances will be revoked. There are more people who have them but would also be part of a second special counsel’s investigation. That doesn’t rhyme.

The second sign is Senator Rand Paul’s call for immunity for Julian Assange to come talk to the US senate about what he knows about Russian involvement in the 2016 election. Obviously, we know that he denies its very existence, and has offered to provide evidence to that end. But before he could do that, a potential deal with the DOJ to do so was torpedoed by then FBI chief James Comey and Senator Mark Warner.

Both will also be part of the second investigation.

henry

Kev, imagine payroll as your lead cloud product. ( or on prem, they all ftp to the banks and govt). What might a hacker want? SSN, e-verify name/dob, bank acct/routing(s), address, earnings, HIPPA stuff like insurance flex spending reimbursements, job history, spouse and dependent ID info .... and more! One clerk checks FB at lunch via work PC, tracker tags authorization access to payroll app, party in Bejing / Hyderabad / Sofia. Meanwhile under CA or Iowa law, I go to jail, do not pass go.
