Fourth....not bad. From before:
I've taken direct issue with Tom R. My admittedly ham-fisted efforts were typified as coming from "the king of quibbling over semantics."
But there is an upside for me personally coming from all the dreck of late which my fellows here view 60 different ways from Sunday.
i've taken a hard look at my own presence here.
i've been critical of others' and how there presence here grinds on me. but i create that experience. me.
what i'm changing can best be summed up in a boating metaphor. my seat behind the wheel is often given up for an absurd position in the water behind the boat as it moves.
LOL who does that? me, of course.
better times ahead for me here.

A thought for the day:
I've been sick and NEEDED a doctor.
I've encountered trouble and NEEDED a police officer.
I've lived through times of war, when our nation NEEDED our military.
I have even NEEDED an auto mechanic, a plumber, a house painter and a lot of other every day people.
But I have NEVER, not even once, NEEDED a pro athlete or Hollywood entertainer for ANYTHING.
Have a Great Day

I voted for the Bushes, Romney and McCain only because they were better than their opponents. But they were at least one time zone away from what I considered good candidates and I'm not ever shutting up about that. The Bushes were major disappointments in office and the head codger was so bad that Perot's candidacy siphoned off many voters who were sicker of him than I was.

i've learned a great deal from professional athletes who've shared about their own lives, what they've overcome in order to achieve and reach their respective peaks. all sorts of them have shared.
but i appreciate them because those shares have been in their memoirs, speaking engagements etc where they kept the subject focused on themselves and their exploits.
i have no need of hearing their political views or judgements/opinions on societal issues; anymore than they appear before me to hear mine.

Ol-you were referring to that MaryAnn Wolf piece from the Guardian I linked to yesterday where she started of quite good and then called for a new kind of brain. Of course, that too is what learning standards actually do.
MR-if you think well of 43 or romney as you have stated you do despite documented admissions of troubling statements of theirs. And others of us recognize why those statements or actions are troubling and why and say so, I am not sure in what universe those views are equivalent. You have the right to ignore the facts. You have the right state your views. You do not have the right to declare your views sacrosanct from criticism by those of us who worry about the consequences of 43's and romney's declarations.
Years ago I heard a story from an education writer who had met with 43 when he was Governor and who said in a one-on-one conversation he was the most condescending and cruel pol she ever dealt with. I didn't believe that take when I first heard it about 10 years ago. I believe it now because that pettiness has come through too many times since.
I don't care for any politician, but both have proven themselves repeatedly to be nasty men in many situations. You are entitled to feel loyalty to them despite their actions and statements, but we can pick on any public figure who feels compelled to remind us regularly that they are an ass.

"
After President Trump completes his 8 years of the presidency, I will then compare him to former Presidents Bush and Reagan."
i probably won't bother with waiting or engaging in such activity. not that it isn't worthwhile. my view is that this isn't time for me to engage in the usual, from time's past.
sort of like the historical ponderings about Lincoln--- was he a "good president?" compared with whom?
Donald Trump has the unenviable place in history where he's likely to be remembered as either a) the man who saved the Republic; or, b) the man who lost it.
and i am under no illusion that men and women in such an unenviable moment are usually crucified no matter the outcome.
his first two years of achievement will fall into obscurity if a) we don't "get the Wall" (h/t Ann Coulter); b)he gets gored for a process crime 20 years allegedly occurring 10-20 years after the fact; c)he's impeached and likely becomes a lame duck before his time; d)or, the Deep State can't resist removal by other means because his achievement rate accelerates.
i don't make these comments because i think POTUS is a god. he's a man.
i do think this administration is functioning during a unique extended moment in history. all comparisons to past presidents, save Lincoln, aren't useful now nor will they be relevant at the end of this run---however long it might be.
all of this because we are alive during an "interesting time."

Posted by: henry | August 28, 2018 at 11:17 AM
So Clinton's fixer planted a story with CNN. The first thing he did with the Cohen case. The corruption is astounding.
We find that the FBI leaked stories to the media so that they could file for FISA warrants.
The links are becoming more and more clear and yet the media wants none of it.
As a side note apparently there is hard evidence that the Chicoms successfully hacked Hillary Clinton's server in real time. That is a massive security breach.
the Upper West Side Fishwrap is glorifying the 1968 Democratic Convention.
Pravda by the Potomac is anti Trump and anti-Catholic.

Well, since I am accused of thining Trump is God, I guess I should stick up for myself.
No, like all of us he has faults and frailties. For one thing, he's got a bit too much braggadocio for my Midwestern tastes. Maybe he feels like if he doeson't praise himself, no one else will.
I remain dumbfounded at how quickly Hollywood and the MSM turned on a guy whom they loved, according to all that can be seen in interviews and cameo appearances, and suddenly decided he was another Hitler.
Maybe that's why I am so defensive about him.
Nevertheless, I am glad I was an early supporter, and I think he is doing a great job, considering all of the roadblocks thrown in his path.
I also am not afraid to express my profound disappointment in both Romney and the Bushes, particularly Bush 43, both of who I enthusiastically supported when they ran, and Bush 43 through his presidency. It seems to me that a lot of what they campaigned on was simply stuff to get votes, and they had no intention of keeping their promises.
Trump did, and has done so.
maryrose, You are quite free to support or criticize whoever you wish. I intend to do the same. I am not apologizing for supporting the President, as I think he is correct on all of the issues I have seen him tackle.

Lunchtime rant (OT) - I am amazed at the weird and damaged people on the internet (I know, I know) but these last 2 days have been outrageous.
1. I belong to a broken-neck survivor website. Everyone shares their struggles, their tips for dealing with pain and devices. This person joined and started private messaging several of us asking very specific questions about our injuries. I thought he was dealing with the same thing as did several others. It turned out - as he continued his questions - he was some sexual pervert who enjoys people with traumatic injuries. Also - another person messaged me asking if he could have my neck brace once it was removed. I have left the group.
2. I have fostered kittens since my injury has prevented me from fostering dogs for a bit. There is a site for cats where I went to ask a question about some tiny kittens I was bottle feeding. I mentioned that the kittens still had their umbilical cords attached when I took them in. Some other weirdo messaged me and asked if she could have the cords when they fell off? (The group administrator banned her from the site!)
Whew - back to politics where everyone seems comforting and normal to me right now!

We had to completely rewrite the fawning Associated Press whitewash of Bruce Ohr that selectively reported the facts as known so far.
Who funded the dossier? Who leaked it to Ohr? What other details did Ohr get and from whom? Why didn’t he tell his superiors what he was doing? What about the veracity of the “research”? What have Trump’s tweets to do with Orh’s testimony? Why bury his wife Nellie’s association with Fusion GPS at the bottom of the article? And more.
AP, get me rewrite!

Jane
A couple of years ago I started going to a chiropractor regularly (I know, I know). He had a diet councilor so my wife and I went. I sort of knew about Keto from Joe Rogan. We both lost weight. Me 20-25 lbs.
We probably go in and out of it. We don't test ketones. My biggest lifestyle change is intermittent fasting.
After coming back from Wyoming I've dropped at least five lbs and I seem to be at my lowest point in years.
My main food groups are chile powder pistachios, avocados, Onnit Warrior Bars (bison jerky), coffee and heavy cream, red meat and red wine.

Not a "penny" of my money goes for BEER. I use all of my money to pay the bills, tuition, insurance, car payments, groceries, stipend to my church, donations to PETA,USPCA, SPCA, SAVE THE WHALES, Save the Children, Unicef etc etc etc etc.
I use my WIFE'S MONEY for the BEER.
Right Manchin you incredibly opportunistic political HACK???

sbw - yesterday's and today's local McClatchy newsette--stuffed with AP and NYT articles--did NOT mention Ohr. What is he, chopped kalayji?
I denounce myself.

Stephanie - Thanks for clarification; however, not a problem. Schiff will lie, er, leak no matter.

The two McClatchey "reporters" who wrote that piece seem to be on their last heels. One --Stone--https://www.publicintegrity.org/authors/peter-h-stone
This is a Soros funded propaganda site.

Good luck with that. If Teddy acted like those curs do I'd have returned him to the breeder.

I smile at Senators and others talking about how good free trade is for the U.S. What they don’t say is that we lose Jobs and over 800 Billion Dollars a year on really dumb Trade Deals....and these same countries Tariff us to death. These lawmakers are just fine with this!

Good Morning from Wyoming, where it snowed in the mountains yesterday!
Hubby and daughter are hiking this morning, despite the frosty temps. We’re going up to Yellowstone tomorrow.
