I am not familiar with the asness money, but I have heard arthur brooks speak and am familiar with much of what aei pushes in education and who it honors and what ideas it pushes in conferences we are not invited to. Calling aei 'conservative' is merely a means of deflection in just how very progressive their programs actually tend to be when properly deciphered.

Peter Singer was the WFB benefactor when the employed GPS Fusion and was also Rubio's big backer during the primaries.

I think that's Paul Singer; Peter is the nutty academic that wants to abort everyone.

Good Morning! We're leaving for Jackson Hole on Friday and I just read that the central bankers are meeting there this week-end. Maybe we can crash a cocktail party! Ha.

Interesting detail I found out about one of signers of that letter re Brennan Dennis Bowden he was in charge of the pdb, in the first year of w.

marlene-we have a family friend who has lived in jackson hole for at least 40 years. When we took the kids after yellowstone, she shared that too many of the raft companies that navigate the snake float trips are not as careful as they ought to be.

This is who she recommended to us and they still appear to be well-regarded. https://barkerewing.com/

Update on my Social Security: the payment was processed but it takes 10 BUSINESS days so I should receive my money later this week. The lady double-checked my routing and account number for me just to be sure.

I want to say that the Indianapolis SS office has been unfailingly helpful, friendly, and polite. None of this is their fault. I imagine a bad actor where the payment info is processed diverted my payment.

Miss Marple

Marlene,

You can be an agent behind enemy lines!! LOL!

I love Jackson Hole! Climbed up to stand on the Teton Glacier when I was out west working on my degree. (This is something I would not attempt now as it required inching along a ledge. I was a lot stupider when I was younger.)

Robin, a fed up deplorable

It’s interesting to compare Steyn and Goldberg. I really liked Jonah Goldberg prior to his TDS. He was a great source for movies and shows to watch, had a great sense of humor, and seemed genial and low key. Mark Steyn, on the other hand, required small doses of his sardonic and sometimes nasty humor. TDS has completely flipped my opinion of the two men. Steyn appreciates Trump’s fighter instinct, I suspect that’s because he’s been embroiled in his own legal battles, and Goldberg acts like a petulant child who really didn’t earn his place at the table that he’s now afraid of losing.

The last three years have been very illuminating.

MM, glad you’re getting your money.

rse,the daughter planned a float ride for this week-end,I'm not sure the name of the company. My sister-in-law is our hostess, her two adult kids have been there with her since last week. I think our nephew will still be there when we arrive. He hit the road in a Ford Econoline van that he fitted out as a camper. He left NH earlier this year and has already been across the country. He's hiked mountains from the Appalachians to the Cascades on his trip.

Ralph L

I wouldn't trust any company that makes floats out of snakes. It can't be pleasant for the waving girls either.

jimmyk

The last three years have been very illuminating.

They certainly have. The flip side of losing respect for people like Kristol and Goldberg is gaining it for Horowitz, Steyn, et al.

Captain Hate,

I agree about Hayes taking himself off. He had an interesting post this week pointing out Clapper's numerous falings and why he probably should have his clearance removed.

Do you remember when Hayes left for time off in Europe or parts far away? I would like to know if something happened about then to prompt his departure.

He's another one who disappointed me, as I thought he was level headed. All of a sudden, he would appear on Fox sputtering like Daffy Duck.

JM Hanes

Speaking of/to jim nj:

"Apologies if I seem I'm in war-mongering mode, but there are large opportunities here, if managed correctly."

Your suggestions don't sound like warmongering to me. One of the things that made me leery of Michael Flynn was his active support for the Erdogan crowd. It seemed to me to be more than the kind of blandishments Trump uses to make sure the channels to peeps like Kim Jong Un stay open.

I blame Colin Powell for initiating the downward trajectory in our relationships there. He was too busy sucking up in the DC swamp to pay attention to what was going on. You'd think with his military background that the one thing he could have gotten right diplomatically was making sure that the primary transit of route of the U.S. big guns and heavy equipment into Iraq at the outset of the war was good to go on the political side. That failure right there should have given President Bush a clue about where Powell's priorities and usefulness lay. He just wasn't paying attention as the Turkish turn to despotism and creeping islamist fundamentalism took hold. It seems to me that the signs were pretty clear and the steps in the progression pretty damn familiar, and not just in retrospect. Of course, President Bush, himself, may not have been cynical enough to recognize, if not accept, the slow degradation of modern western culture there.

I agree that there are immense opportunities in the current rather chaotic circumstances, an independent Kurdistani ally among them. I suspect that this administration recognizes that, but there is also immense, not entirely predictable, volatility there too, especially when you factor in the whole love hate thing with Putin, who does not want to pull out that foot he's finally gotten back in the middle eastern door that Nixon/Kissenger shut in Russia's face.

CNN’s Philip Mudd Blows Up at Paris Dennard for Telling Truth About ‘Profitable’ Security Clearances

Dennard pushed back against the claim that revoking Brennan’s clearance was an attempt to stifle freedom of speech, and added:

"A lot of these people that have these security clearances, and this is the secret in the swampy Washington, D.C., they have them and they keep them because it’s profitable for them after they leave government, because if you a security clearance, especially high level security clearance, your contracts and consulting gig pay you a lot more money because of the access that you have. I hope the president continues to do this, and I hope he adds Omarosa to the list, because if she has a clearance, she too because of her actions should have it revoked."

Mudd was furious: “Profitable, Paris? When I am required to sit on an advisory board, let me ask you one question, how much do you think I’m paid to do that at the request of the U.S. government? Give me one answer, and you’ve got 10 seconds? How much?”

My dearly departed rail and transit expert associate and I spent 2 weeks in Turkey looking at all their built and planned light rail systems. One time in Izmir (ancient Smyrna), we were invited to meet with the mayor, and have a coffee. As we were being served, in walked a Turkish Army General. He was in the area, and was making a friendly visit. Spoke perfect English, and French (my associate was French). Spent a year in DC at the War College at Ft. McNair.

Very polished guy who was secular as you could get. Wonder if he is still around or in one of Erdogan's prison cells.

Took the train from Istanbul to Ankara, drove down to Anatalya, then along the coast to Mersin. The beaches were all crowded with Russians. I have no idea how Turkey is today, but back then, it was plush along the Aegean, not so much in most of Istanbul. You practice situational awareness every second in that city.

I've been giving her pepsid. She seems good today but the day is young. At first I thought the throwing up was tied to the trachia (and I can hear all sorts of things that I think are related to her trachia).

I was going to call the vet today, but I'm waiting to see how she does. If you have advice I'd love to hear it.

Here is an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEA3N4NK4ic&t=63s

This is reverse sneezing which sounds very similar:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8Iz5K4qmEs

Fortunately, our Lilly had the reverse sneezing which is not dangerous. We were told to keep her weight down, only use a harness - never a collar around her neck which would press on her trachea, and when she began making that noise, to try to calm her down. She often did it after exercise, too. As she got older, we took shorter and slower walks.

Sounds like with bile it might be more of a digestive problem rather than respiratory. Hope you continue to see progress today.
