About the doxxing...

And Rand Paul has called for an investigation into the doxxing as well.

Old Lurker

Lurkersusie "I wonder how Ford will do when interviewed by the FBI? She was treated with kid gloves yesterday."

Did I sleep through the FBI becoming something this week that it was not for the last 8+ years? The same FBI that turned Hillary Clinton inside out for her crimes?

Seriously?

Captain Hate

Btw, I said Dr. Fraud should have been slimed from the get-go. Still do.

Good luck with that; there's only one side that plays to win and it ain't the GOP. Does anyone doubt that Flake is bent over because of his shitbag kid's past threatening his future employment. The Horde says Flake is deep in a financial hole, which seems unpossible for a Senator but if there's one that's dumb enough...

Another Bob

OL, Boris, et al....

The other thing that will likely happen is the argument will turn away from actual evidence. More charges will be made, then wait for: “Look, there can’t be this much smoke without at least some fire somewhere”.

This is how the dems will cover the downside of the FBI refusing to re-engage and/or re-“clearing” Kavanaugh.

The issue will be shifted away from inconvenient facts and back to politics.

And clearly, nobody will change Flake’s mind and Murkowski and Collins are spineless.

Jim Eagle

Clarice,

Why isn't DiFi, Eshoo, et.al. not guilty of obstruction of justice by not reporting a latent crime described in the CBF letter? I know it went Eshoo first but it is still addressed to DiFi. At least it should have been reported to the FBI doing the background check on Kavanaugh.

Plus since both Eshoo and DiFi knew of the details and must have agreed to keep it between them, then why is there not a conspiracty to obstruct justiice? Immunity due to Senate rules?

Eye Doctor .

Flake is probably deep in more than just a financial hole

JM Hanes

"Any ONE of those things would have caused her to share her story, right ladies?"

I'm afraid this seems to be disagree-with-anonamom day! I really hesitate to make presumptions about what constitutes "normal" generic female behaviour. I think it's clear that Kavanaugh did not molest Ford, and it's clear that Ford is dancing to a Democrat tune. But I don't think the fact that she didn't share her story with her contemporaries is dispositive. As a teenager, I didn't rush to share everything with my girlfriends, even my closest friends. I can certainly also see how a teenager could have a lot of conflicting feelings & impulses after an assault, including feeling guilty about having somehow allowed or provoked such behaviour. I'm not saying I think that's the story here, I just wouldn't attach a lot of significance to the fact that she apparently didn't share her story at the time.

Eye Doctor .

Didn't Ford have to sign a realease under the privacy act for Eshoo and DiFi?

Marlene

Howie Carr has been playing the audio of the woman who confronted Jeff Flake. Whoa, she sounded unhinged. No matter what we think of Flake, how did she get *this* close to a U.S. Senator? Recall the Ted Cruz and wife incident at the restaurant this week.
Speaking of Flake, last summer at a family gathering, hubby's brother said he had read Flake's book. Hubby laughed in his face. They haven't spoken since. Families. :)

FWIW,

The thread and daily events have been so busy lately that I cannot even catch up on any current page, much less all the pages from last night or from earlier in the day. I know I can't be the only west coaster alone in finding it impossible to catch up and therefore impossible to comment on so many good comments from so many good posters. Sorry, and a special apology to PD for not thanking him for his excellent comments the other night about how to try to fix my glitches with Firefox.

Miss Marple (the real one)

Jack,

Those are good questions. I want someone to lay down the law about this. It's a Neverending Story and I do not want to listen to dem crap all fall.

Also, whoever said McConnell will have more votes after November is wrong. Even if there is a huge red victory, those people do not take office until January with the new Congress.

Flake on the elevator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y195wZ-zr5s

Old Lurker

The only mistake I made in the last ten days was thinking for a few hours on one day that it looked good for confirmation. I should have just shut up and kept to my Ledge.

While by some stroke of lightning he might get confirmed, the smart assumption now is that it is over for Kavanaugh and just move on to the Midterms.

Trump should just salvage the story of what they did to this fine nominee and use that as part of his elevator speech on why he needs to win both houses come November. And then make every day a new chapter in that singular focus.

By turning Flake, the Dems turned the tide today so let's move on. We already got off message for the midterms for ten days and now that seems wasted.

JimNorCal

If Dems can delay till the election they will pull out all the stops: illegal voting, lawsuits to prevent Repubs from being seated/certified, you name it. Repubs will not be allowed to name another SCOTUS nominee.

Old Lurker

Jim "If Dems can delay till the election they will pull out all the stops: illegal voting, lawsuits to prevent Repubs from being seated/certified, you name it. "

THAT is going to happen either way. If not to prevent a nominee, then to impeach one already seated. And Trump too while they are at it.

Porchlight

even if it does the findings go back to the Judiciary Committee

No, it doesn't. Committee is done. It's Mitch's ball now.

Old Lurker

I agree with Porch. It is out of committee now.

Clarice Feldman

Actually, even if the Democrats win in November, the Republicans can call a rump session and confirm Kavanaugh.

Old Lurker

"Could" but won't, Clarice.

Not these Republicans.

Porchlight

If it makes anyone feel any better, the left is highly pissed at Flake for voting yea in committee. They're certain that he will eventually vote yes in the end (as will all the other Republicans). The last-minute investigation is just to provide cover for all the RINOs.

daddy

I have no problem in having an FBI Investigation that lasts for no longer than one week as long as every Senator who demands we have that 1 week long FBI Investigation pledge that they will resign their seat the instant that One week long FBI Investigation extends longer than 1 week.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

I'd like to see Trump's letter to the FBI for investigation include the release of the sex payments by congress.

In my dreams but I can dream, can't I?

Beasts of England

And congratulations, Miss Marple!! Prayers for their safe travels and a wonderful wedding! :)

Miss Marple (the real one)

I would like to point out that since the dems have already announced that if they lose the vote they will move for impeachment of Kavenaugh if they win the House, they are operating in bad faith.

Therefore, I would lean on Murkowski, Collins, Flake and Manchin and do whatever it takes to get their votes: deny them committee positions, threaten investigations, offer speaking gigs or book deals, whatever.

I'd love for that to be true, and if one could prevent an avalanche of new victims coming forward, than that sort of deal could have been struck. But wow is that hard to trust.

lurkersusie

Miss M,

Congratulations to your daughter.
I will prayer for her safety and happiness.

Jim Eagle

I still ask the question: What is the FBI going to investigate? No date certain, no house location, no corroboration.

What I would if I am the FBI is ask for polygraphs on both Ford and Kav. You can do that in less than a week. If the personal attorneys obct, you report that, investigation over, lets go to a vote.

And in my opinion, the accuser refusing an FBI polygraph is more damnig than an accused refusing. I know, logic, right?

Old Lurker

MM, that's the only play McConnell has, I think you are right.

Tom R

Good luck with that; there's only one side that plays to win and it ain't the GOP.

Trump plays to win. Kavanaugh is his nominee and if he doesn't get confirmed it will get portrayed as him losing this battle. I don't think Trump is going to sit back and allow that to happen.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Doesn't Trump have a vaunted investigative team that could be used to 'dig up dirt' on some of these squishes? Or has it been doing so all along?

I'm still mulling over the comments at the UN a few days ago.

henry

OL, plus the FBI gets the psych exam notes in full, unredacted. The psych is also put on a polygraph.

daddy

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Posted by: GUS | September 28, 2018 at 03:43 PM

I briefly worked at a plant that made kitty litter. The LEFT is dumber than an operator named Albert.

*Disturbing Content*

There was this handyman around there I thought of as the Crab Man because of his finger configuration. Kitty litter is just bentonite clay that has been run thru a kiln and a secondary process called a hammer mill. Just think of a dozen piano hammers swinging around in front of a steel screen.

So sometime in the distant past when Crab Man was named Smeagol or something he locked out/tagged out the hammer mill to work on it. Well, Albert ignored that and fired it up with dude's hands inside it.

At a certain point Albert told me to get up on a catwalk that was missing a bunch of welds so I told him I smelled a lawsuit and he moved on to the next guy.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

The agreement is for a supplemental background check per Phil Mattingly on twitter...from CNN.

Old Lurker

Steph "Doesn't Trump have a vaunted investigative team that could be used to 'dig up dirt' on some of these squishes?"

We have to get past our hopes that Trump has the best team of lawyers ever, or the best team of investigators ever, or, etc.

The Mother of all Fart Bombs

The Anita Hill- Clarence Thomas hearings were noteworthy for introducing us to pubic hairs on coke cans and letting us know just how deep the bench of clueless, sexist male senators was on *both* sides of the aisle.

But yesterday, that was epic. And I don’t say that with any sense of satisfaction. I mean that Dr. Ford was steady by clearly unnerved. Brett Kavanaugh was completely unhinged.

It looked to me like he was personally coached by Donald Trump. Yep, if Donald Trump were ever nominated to the Supreme Court, this is exactly how he would behave. He’d cite his high school GPA, talk about team meetings at Timmy’s house, rage about how “disgraceful” all of this was, and get up into Amy Klobuchar’s grill about HER drinking habits.

I can’t imagine a candidate ever doing this at a job interview and getting hired. It boggles my imagination.

NOT a criminal investigation... btw..

Tom R

I do not think there is any way in the world this gets done within one week.

How long would it take a couple of FBI agents to interview everyone Ford claimed was at the house? We are talking about 5-6 people total right? Some of the interviews wouldn't last but a few minutes.

FBI agent: Witness A here is your previous statement. Is there anything you want to change about your original statement?

Witness A: No.

FBI agent: Thank you for allowing us to waste your time.

Based on all the testimony so far I don't think it would take them more than one day to conduct the interviews and one day to write up a report.

Old Lurker

Hope you are right, Iggy.

Momto2

MM - Congratulations on your daughter's wedding. I'm sure they have researched this but just in case I will pass this along. My co-worker married a man from Australia. It took almost a year for him to get approved to live here although they were legally married.

She stated their mistake was not having a legally binding ceremony in the U.S. So maybe they could have a courthouse type wedding for added insurance.

Keep us posted!

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

That was semi snark OL, hence the "Vaunted."

Old Lurker

Henry, I wonder why they should be taken at face value as even coming from the doctor? Seems the FBI would need the doctor to confirm that.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

Congrats MM!

jimmyk

The last-minute investigation is just to provide cover for all the RINOs.

Naive question: Why does one need cover for doing the right thing versus the obviously spineless and pointless thing? Is there anyone on the planet that sincerely thinks an FBI investigation is going to do anything other than delay? I realize that to the Dems that's a feature, not a bug, but who needs cover from rejecting that ploy?

Old Lurker

I knew that Steph, but it allowed me to make my counter point off your snark!

henry

Stephanie, how is a criminal accusation against a nominee not a criminal investigation?

I assume that depends on how many lawyers can dance on the head of a pin.

Current topic on Howie Carr's Show is whether Jeff Flake is actually a bad guy like the Dems or is he simply a useful idiot.

Caller thinks Flake is on their side, Howie thinks he is such a fool that he believes what comes out of his mouth and is instead a useful idiot.

Why not both?

Muellers on it

The de facto ruler of the UAE, crown prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, or “MBZ” as he’s known, has met with members of the Trump coterie in two informal circumstances that we know of: in December 2016 in New York with campaign advisers Steve Bannon, Mike Flynn, and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and on January 11, 2017, in the Seychelles. There, MBZ arranged for the drink between Erik Prince—the Breitling-wearing founder of the now-defunct paramilitary firm Blackwater and brother of Trump secretary of education Betsy DeVos—and an associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

And a surprising number of useful American connections were also at hand for the 57-year-old crown prince. Among them were his adviser, Lebanese-American businessman George Nader, Republican lobbyist Elliott Broidy, whose security company had hundreds of millions of dollars in UAE contracts, and Trump inauguration committee head Tom Barrack, whose real estate business has profited handsomely from Emirate deals.

boris

I suppose the FBI could interview Chris Garrett since his house is the only known residence in the vicinity of the Country Club with and upstairs bathroom across from a bedroom.

Now I think Ford's recovered memory is bogus memory or lie. Either way could be she doesn't want Garrett named or involved, even if she thinks that's where it "happened".

I am trying not to be discouraged about today's events. I was so happy last night after they announced they had enough votes.

How can one guy (Flake) who is so disliked in his own state he is not running for re-election and polls in the 20% range weld this much power? He has turned yesterdays victory on its head. Rush says make no mistake, more allegations will surface and the dems will scream they cannot hold a vote when X,Y, and Z have not been investigated.

The only ray of hope remaining is that McConnell really does have the votes in a way that cannot be retracted. Not sure how that works exactly but if you promise your vote to the Majority leader can you turn around the next day and say,"...but Jeff Flake..."?

Boris @ 5:00 - This is what has been on my mind. She does not want Garrett brought up. He has been quiet. I just have this feeling she has exaggerated something that happened with him at his house. I think she is lying. I think she needed sense memory and she has used something involving Garrett. It's very fishy. I also think she has some grudge against Kavanaugh. Does she blame him for something involving Garrett? I also think Mark Judge was chosen and put in the mx because his book/articles give easy to get info and he has admitted to alcoholism and she has thus tarred Kavanaugh by association.

Oh face it: it is a disaster. There isn nothing good in this and there is plenty that hurts the GOP. The dems have profited greatly and at no cost to them at all, far from it.

And this latest bit of drama is completely the GOP's fault. Up until this is was the Dems fault, but no more. More to the point:everyone knows this now. And it is all based on lies. Everyone knows this.

Do not think for a minute that it is going to end with an "investigation",particularly one conducted by an institution that is already under a deep cloud for partisanship. At this point it would take a miracle for K. to get in ever, and certainly not by the end of the week.

An utter disaster.

one way or another it is going to affect the midterms; let us hope that it does not turn the tide for the Dems. It is going to effect undecideds and will suppress at least some on the GOP vote. It gives cover to Dem senators that looked like pickups just hours ago. It will take all other meaningful issues, like immigration and the economy, off the table. Seriously, how better could they play into the Dems hands. The GOP was in a commanding position, and they may have just thrown it all away. Why? because some reporters will scowl at them? To "be nice" to a obviously insane apparat of the Nomenklatura who is sitting across the table spitting lies in their faces--laughing right in their faces? To get some imaginary "women's vote"? Because the Dems slammed them with rent a mob calls and emails? They have succumbed to a complete illusion and greatly PO'd the voters that matter. Fools and cowards. How embarrassing for us that we are ruled by such people.

Talk about clutching defeat from the jaws of victory. Just shameful.

Flake, Collings, et all should be ashamed. They have no sense of responsibility for the country. They are floating off in PC fantasy land. They have allowed the Dems to gaslight them (assuming that there was neither bribery or blackmail, of course). These are not serious people. This is foolishness--dangerous foolishness. I do not see how they can look themselves in the mirror. No doubt they can, and that just goes to show what poor character they have.

At this point it does not, in a sense at least, matter if K. gets in or not. The damage is done.

It is amazing that the Dems can pull things like this off.

Neither party can govern. The GOP has let Trump, their party and the nation down on this, and everyone knows it. FOr what?

For what possible reason would the GOP honestly think that an "investigation" is warranted? He was already cleared for Pete's sake.

They cannot make a rational argument for this. The truth is clear as aBell: they cannot or will control their caucus.

Old Lurker

Iggy, you know what they say about broken clocks, right?

:-)

daddy

Therefore, I would lean on Murkowski,

You cannot lean on Murkowski with common sense. She does not have any. She is an emotionally driven critter.

Tom R

BTW it was mentioned that Kavanaugh went thru a background check to get a Top Secret security clearance. The investigators who do Top Secret background checks go thru your entire life history with a fine tooth comb. I've been involved with one of those so unless the process has slackened over the years the fact his TS clearance request was approved is about as clear evidence you can get that there are zero skeletons in Kavanaugh's closet. Trump knows this just like he knows he didn't collude with the Russians to win the 2016 election. Once the supplemental FBI background check that Trump just ordered to be performed is completed all that it will accomplish is to delay the inevitable confirmation and cause the Democrats to lose even more votes.

Captain Hate
