Miss Marple (the real one)

He was a relic of his times, Pinandpuller.

When I was in high school I had a job as a cashier at Woolworth's. In those days, people thought nothing of coming into a store with a lit cigarette.

And a lot of people used to put them out on the floor! There were always clusters of cigarette butts around the registers, because people would throw them on the floor and step on them when they were reaching for their wallets or digging in their purses.

One of the managers couldn't stand it, so he detailed one of the guys to use a push broom a couple of times a night to sweep them all up (and they were all over the store).

Barbara

Jack and Buckeye,

You must be so proud of your daughters! And rightly so.

Buckeye

Well we are going to need some artistic flair very soon.

Jr. purchased our home last Tuesday, and we bought a patio home on Friday.

Very nice, spacious place, but the walls are painted some shade of baby crap green.

We aren't planning to move for another month, but getting the makeover started will be a bit of a challenge. Most of the formal living space is two story, so scaffolding will be required to do much of anything.

Biggest challenge will be Mrs. Buckeye figuring out how to deal with less bedrooms, and therefore less closet space.

Could get ugly:)

Extraneus

Oh, Comey the "Republican" is hoping Kavanaugh goes down? Gee, that's surprising.

There are countless reasons why Christine Blasey Ford is NOT credible — here’s the list.

Also NOT credible is Fox News.

Think of the extra expense: You'd have to have and extra high scaffold to hang Comey.

Miss Marple (the real one)

My daughter was a painting major.

She was an excellent portaitist, but the people at the School of Fine Arts had convinced her that was "too commercial." Decorative painting would have been even farther down the prestige ladder.

Looking back, I should have put my foot down about her major, but the high school had already made her feel like she wasn't college material, so I was glad she decided to go to college for anything.

The thing is, she cannot take criticism from her peers, so there you go. Probably also why she's a democrat.

I'd have been in Jr High. I wore Levi's, rolled up and pegged at the ankle with a concert tee shirt.

Last year my teenage boy was complaining about not having any pants to wear to school.

I asked him 'What do you want? Do you need a new pair of Levi's?'

He looked at quizically and said 'What's a Levi's?'

I responded 'Get in the damn car! We are going to the mall!'

My best friend is an artist.
I marvel at talent like that.
JIB and Buckeye:
It sounds like both young ladies have found their niche in the art world and everyday is a joy to go to work.
Artistic talent is with you always.
Perhaps as an avocation.
Keep drawing and painting and creating if you are fortunate enough to have the talent.

I take the Metro North train on a picturesque fall day to the city suburbs. As the train hurries towards Greenwich, you can almost see the leaves change to a warm brown. Waiting for me at the station is a pleasant 27-y/o in his dad's Audi.
"Kav didn't do it," he tells me.

So I finally got around to watching the video someone posted from Maggie’s farm of Christy Ballsey Fraud with the voice-over of the woman analyzing her. Good gawd, CBF’s wittle girl voice is beyond obnoxious. She was coached all the way, IMO.

This appears to be the official Packers explanation:

maryrose

Also in a strange sequence of events,
Earlier today my daughter found a rock with a message at church.
When you find these rocks you are supposed to put them in another secret place for someone else to find.
After going to two great estate sales, we went down to Lake Erie and places the stone in a little park.
As we were leaving I was stung on the ring finger by a bee.
After putting baking soda on it , all was good.
My daughter said, If we didn’t find the stone you wouldn’t have gotten stung
by the 🐝.
I said Honey, life doesn’t work like that”

Personally I think Ms Ford's powers of recall are worse than Bridey Murphy's.

In 1952, Colorado businessman and amateur hypnotist Morey Bernstein put housewife Virginia Tighe (Ruth Simmons) of Pueblo, Colorado, in a trance that sparked off startling revelations about Tighe's alleged past life as a 19th-century Irishwoman and her rebirth in the United States 59 years later. Bernstein used a technique called hypnotic regression, during which the subject is gradually taken back to childhood. He then attempted to take Virginia one step further, before birth, and was astonished to find he was listening to Bridey Murphy.

That POS was the worst con artist ever to claim any scientific credentials. An old pal went to HS with him and said he was such an obnoxious ass that it was a miracle he could see from getting his lights punched out on a regular basis. Sen. Hirono doesn't answer when asked whether Dems leaked Christine Ford's letter on Kavanaugh

"Are you confident the Democrats didn’t leak that letter, and how do you respond to Senator Graham’s charge that it was inappropriate for the Democrats to refer Dr. Blasey Ford to a lawyer?" host George Stephanopoulos asked Hirono on ABC's "This Week."

"All of these things do not focus on what we should be focusing, which is the credibility of Judge Kavanaugh," Hirono, D-Hawaii, responded, before calling Kavanaugh's claims of a political conspiracy against him "bizarre."

"And, by the way, even as all of these accusations about this being politically motivated are being tossed around, everyone acknowledges, including Judge Kavanaugh, that Dr. Ford is not being politically motivated," Hirono, who has suggested Kavanaugh did not deserve due process because of his "outcome-driven" conservative legal philsophy, continued. "That is very clear."

So basement suite in Lawrence Hall. Yeah, those sucked. I was in a basement suite at Vanderbilt Hall my freshman year. The “living room” had a skylight in the moat instead of a window. My room window had bars in it, like a jail cell. At least I could lock the door.

The comments about DKE have no relation to reality as of the year before Kav was a freshman. I cannot imagine much change.

From Miss M's 03:00 PM

News of restaurant closings continues to arrive since I first compiled this list in July. More than 30 Indianapolis restaurants have faded since the beginning of 2016.

That's probably small potatoes in big bergs like New York and LA, but in mid-sized Indy that sure seems significant to me, and especially during a time when the National Economy is booming.

Hey, henry, I was in Vanderbilt the year before you, southernmost entrance, third floor. They put male RAs on the first floor and a load of very large athletes on the second floor (people who ended up in at 3rd and 4th seat in crew, and others of that sort). Nice guys, all--we were grateful they were between us and imagined malefactors. The odd thing about Vanderbilt Hall is that it was built backwards (architect went to Europe for the summer and came back to curse the builders, if I remember correctly)--it has a U shape which was meant to open onto the Old Campus but instead points to the street to the west (that's why there has been for a long time a high forbidding wall there).

We discussed this earlier but here are a few things I didn't know:
(copied from Facebook political page)

"NONE of Christine Blasey-Ford’s family attended the hearing Thursday. Not her husband, and not her parents or two brothers. Her parents and brothers all live in the metro DC area. 🤔

Given the nature of the allegations and the immense public attention on this in recent weeks, I find that incredibly bizarre- and quite telling, frankly."

boatbuilder

Do any of those "False in one, false in all" idiots realize that if it applies at all here* it also applies to Ms. Blasey-Ford (who has already been shown to be "false" in numerous respects, not simply about her "recollected" memory--yeesh!--but also about things that happened within the last three months)?

*As Blumenthal (and Kavanaugh) surely know, the "falsus in unis" charge is only given to the jury at the discretion of the trial judge in exceptional circumstances--i.e., obviously false testimony-- and is accompanied by an instruction to the effect that minor inconsistencies do not invalidate otherwise truthful testimony, that different people can have different impressions, and that memory is fallible, particularly with the passage of time, etc.

I doubt very much that any impartial trial judge would give a "falsus in unis" charge to a jury if this were a jury trial.

I happened to be listening on the radio when Kavanaugh responded to Blumenthal's question about the meaning of "falsus in unis" (which he fumbled, BTW) by saying "Well, you would know more about that than I." Zing! I laughed out loud.

henry

Catsmeat, yep on the reverse facing of Vbilt. I was in the entryway closest to the street on the left (from standing in the archway), basement on the street side of the stairwell. The Vanderbilt Room (just above the archway) was a great spot for deploying the funnelator, had a friend in that room.
