The report that retired MI-6 dirt-dogger Steele had briefed senior FBI veteran Ohr about the infamous Steel dossier at a July 30 meeting has struck a nerve.
The NY Times has a river of leaks from the Ohr/FBI/Clinton/Comey side explaining their long time relationship. Since both were involved with probing the Russian mob, large parts of the story ring true.
However! Folks with a long memory (or for those to whom it seems like a long time) this theme of 'controversial leaks followed by exculpatory leaks' is a replay of the May 16, 2018 Times story about the genesis of "Crossfire Hurricane". Back then, when the controversy was whether the Steele dossier had fueled the Carter Page FISA warrant, we were assured that "Crossfire Hurricane" had been launched on July 31 in response to the news that George Papadopoulos had been tipped about Russian possession of emails. We can feel the drama in the lead:
WASHINGTON — Within hours of opening an investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia in the summer of 2016, the F.B.I. dispatched a pair of agents to London on a mission so secretive that all but a handful of officials were kept in the dark.
Their assignment, which has not been previously reported, was to meet the Australian ambassador, who had evidence that one of Donald J. Trump’s advisers knew in advance about Russian election meddling. After tense deliberations between Washington and Canberra, top Australian officials broke with diplomatic protocol and allowed the ambassador, Alexander Downer, to sit for an F.B.I. interview to describe his meeting with the campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos.
The agents summarized their highly unusual interview and sent word to Washington on Aug. 2, 2016, two days after the investigation was opened. Their report helped provide the foundation for a case that, a year ago Thursday, became the special counsel investigation. But at the time, a small group of F.B.I. officials knew it by its code name: Crossfire Hurricane.
Deep in the story the dossier appears:
The F.B.I. bureaucracy did agents no favors. In July, a retired British spy named Christopher Steele approached a friend in the F.B.I. overseas and provided reports linking Trump campaign officials to Russia. But the documents meandered around the F.B.I. organizational chart, former officials said. Only in mid-September, congressional investigators say, did the records reach the Crossfire Hurricane team.
Mr. Steele was gathering information about Mr. Trump as a private investigator for Fusion GPS, a firm paid by Democrats. But he was also considered highly credible, having helped agents unravel complicated cases.
Hmm. So now we know that the "friend in the F.B.I. overseas" was Ohr, and that Crossfire Hurricane was launched the day after the dossier was presented. Kind of buried the lede there.
To be fair, there is no way the FBI responded exclusively to the dossier by formally opening an investigation one day later. But asking me to believe it took Ohr several weeks to tip off his colleagues? Please.
I'll settle for believing the FBI already had concerns and the dossier added to them.
I, too, thought The Outstation was masterful. Spare writing for a compelling tale of character and destiny.
Like Frau, I hope the Church gets strengthened--the last time it wasn't we had WWII--It's a major force when operating as it should to preserve western Civilization against totalitarianism.
Maryrose and I might disagree how that is to happen, but I do not doubt her sincerity one whit.

This is what Trump was tweeting about: Trump slams Sessions on Twitter, says AG is hurting GOP in midterms
(Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department,” Trump tweeted. “Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff.....”)
The president apparently was referring to the current investigations into GOP Reps. Duncan Hunter of California and Chris Collins of New York. Fox News has reached out to the White House for additional clarification, and the Justice Department did not immediately respond.

Broadbrushing opinions of others is maryrose's perogative. obviously. it is also her right to SOB. obviously.
but all of that is neither here nor there.
"Pettiness" is a relevant assignment to maryrose's Joe Friday parody of "nuthin but the facts, ma'am"; because Pope Francis has a track record of enabling ideological priorities of ordained priests with rank that are wholly inconsistent with the Gospel.
the FACT of this matter is that Pope Francis has enabled the ongoing effects of wayward ideology (his own and those of others) to place the Roman Catholic Church on the precipice of destruction as a moral compass in the world. PERIOD.
a thinking individual doesn't need court certified evidence to understand when their interests are being threatened by an iconified human being WHO HAS A TRACK record that's out of square with the teachings of the Gospel. PERIOD.

Pope Francis Rewrites Catholicism ... and the Bible
Last week, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had changed the Catholic catechism. After 2,000 years of teaching that a moral use of capital punishment for murder is consistent with Catholic teaching, the pope announced that the catechism, the church fathers and St. Thomas Aquinas, among the other great Catholic theologians, were all wrong.
And God and the Bible? They're wrong, too.
Pope Francis, the product of Latin American liberation theology -- along with many other Catholic religious and lay leaders -- is remaking Catholicism in the image of leftism...

You better hope it is otherwise Trump would be displaying the same exact kind of corruption that we criticized the DOJ under Obama for. If there is evidence these two GOP Congressmen committed a crime, not prosecuting the crime and letting them off the hook just because there is a GOP President and Congress means the DOJ is still politicized like it was under Obama.
What I think Trump is doing is making sure the entire country is aware that the DOJ under Sessions is impartial and adheres to the Constitutional rule of law, even if that GOP politicians get indicted too.

I don’t understand what made this funerapalooza a “state” funeral.
From FoxNews in 2006...
The Capitol has a more expansive policy for laying in state. Congressman Henry Clay, in 1852, was the first to lay in the Capitol Rotunda. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover laid in the Capitol in 1972. Police officers killed in 1998 while protecting the Capitol also lay in state there.
I would have said “lying in state”.

I don't think he's a mole. That doesn't seem to be in his character.
So, either he is incompetent at managing the DOJ, is being undercut by uniparty attorneys, or there is a plan I don't understand.
I have no idea which, cannot assemble enough evidence to support one version with another, and just hope that Trump is cagey enough to figure out what's going on and act accordingly.

I didn't take President Trump's tweet as indicative of corruption. (If it wasn't kabuki.) I took it as a reasonable and heartfelt complaint that purported crimes that had been under investigation during the prior administration had all of a sudden been politically and publicly charged and hit the news media.

MM "I don't think he's a mole. That doesn't seem to be in his character."
His character would preclude the term "mole" for its negative connotation and duplicity.
But he might just really believe that the state institutions are good and proper and best for the country and that the problems are isolated and manageable.
Then he will see himself as doing God's work.
Seriously.

joan, Nike is up in the Pacific Northwest with the rest of the nutjobs. Now that my basketball playing days are over, I won't buy a damn thing from them.

Department of Defense and the Naval Academy a possibility would be the Arizona National Guard ...
i'd look to Office of Casualty, Mortuary Affairs and Military Funeral Honors as a point of departure and then bootstrap that to the honors provided for a sitting senator and someone who married into a lot of money ... the 3d U.S. Infantry would have been involved in the military honors side and Capitol Police on the Senate side.

jimmyk - I envy your being able to attend it one night. I'd like to see some of the newer players win too but have had a hard time being impressed by anyone. Especially when you compare them to the newer crop of golfers like Spieth & Thomas. Younger tennis players just don't compare.

I think DJT's complaint is abut the timing and he may have a point

I still remember fondly when a 70-something Aldrin punched some loudmouth punk (who was claiming that the moon landing was all a lie) in the face.

Your basketball playing days are over? Have you reported that here, and why?
