Daily Caller: MAN APOLOGIZES FOR CLAIMING KAVANAUGH SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HIS FRIEND, SAYS HE ‘MADE A MISTAKE’

A Rhode Island man who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting his friend apologized on Wednesday and said he “made a mistake."

The man called Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s office and claimed that Kavanaugh and Mark Judge, a high school friend of Kavanaugh, drunkenly sexually assaulted one of his friends, according to interview transcripts released by the Senate Judiciary Committee...

...everyone who is going crazy about what I had said I have recanted because I have made a mistake and apologize for such mistake,” said Jeffrey Catalan

Robert Bork's statement before his confirmation vote:

The tactics and techniques of national political campaigns have been unleashed on the process of confirming judges. That is not simply disturbing, it is dangerous.

Federal judges are not appointed to decide cases according to the latest opinion polls. They are appointed to decide cases impartially according to law.

But when judicial nominees are assessed and treated like political candidates, the effect will be to chill the climate in which judicial deliberations take place, to erode public confidence in the impartiality of courts and to endanger the independence of the judiciary.

In politics, the opposing candidates exchange contentions in their efforts to sway voters. In the give and take of political debate, the choice will in the end be clear.

A judge, however, cannot engage. Political campaigning and the judge’s functions are flatly incompatible.

In 200 years no nominee for justice has ever campaigned for that high office. None ever should, and I will not.

This is not to say that my public life, the decisions I have rendered, the articles I have written, should be immune from consideration. They should not.

Were the fate of Robert Bork the only matter at stake, I would ask the President to withdraw my nomination.

The most serious and lasting injury in all of this, however, is not to me. Nor is it to all of those who have steadfastly supported my nomination and to whom I am deeply grateful. Rather, it is to the dignity and the integrity of law and of public service in this country.

I therefore wish to end the speculation. There should be a full debate and a final Senate decision. In deciding on this course, I harbor no illusions.

But a crucial principle is at stake. That principle is the way we select the men and women who guard the liberties of all the American people. That should not be done through public campaigns of distortion. If I withdraw now, that campaign would be seen as a success, and it would be mounted against future nominees.

For the sake of the Federal judiciary and the American people, that must not happen. The deliberative process must be restored. In the days remaining, I ask only that voices be lowered, the facts respected and the deliberations conducted in a manner that will be fair to me and to the infinitely larger and more important cause of justice in America.

" ... the trash party-how did they let it get this far out of hand? ..."

IMO, extremists usually run each party. They are the people most usually prone to be more active in any organization, and run things, and set the organization's agenda and direction.

The more moderate or "centered" people are usually content with their lives, fat and happy, willing to sit on the side-lines and let the more active people run things.

Normally, only when things get pulled TOO FAR to one extreme or other does the group that falls within the bell curve between center-left and center-right actually become involved and concerned enough to rise up and try to pull things back toward the middle.

The problem with the Dems (and the rest of us) is that the whole polity and culture has been gradually pulled to the left-of-center, such that the extremists on the Left are now REALLY, REALLY FAR to the left and the culture as a whole is left-of-center.

And as the more "moderate" Dems have pulled away from the Democrat Party, especially with the #WalkAway movement, it has resulted in a Democrat Party and Dem leaership that is almost as far left as it can get.

That, AND I think, the residual effects of some serious drug and substance abuse - and perhaps some latent mental health issues - in many of the Dems' leadership.

Like Pelosi, et al. There is some SERIOUSLY sick, malignant, breaks from reality, schizophrenia, sociopathy, and paranoia being exhibited by many of these people.

It seems to me, that those of "US" who don't see this, are NAIVE beyond belief.

That is pathetic.--

It is highly likely nothing happened and this is a bald faced lie. However there seems to be some actual evidence she was a bit wild and a bit promiscuous and there are apparently one or two guys who claim to have had experiences in some way similar to the event she has claimed, so admitting the possibility she is trying to attach Kavanaugh to some experience, consensual or otherwise she may have experienced seems pretty sane, sensible and admitting of the weirdness and mendacity of human nature to me, rather than those capitalized and otherwise adjectives above.
What adjectives describe claiming to know the unknowable and insulting those who make no such claim?
More importantly why do people think casually insulting someone who has done them no harm and who usually agrees with them is OK?
This place seems to be devolving into the ideologue's "if you're not with me on everything you're against me" mindset more and more.
It's getting old.
