henry

fdcol, looks like DiFi has the same "acting" coach

Tom Bowler

Watching. Ford is reading her statement in a tearful voice that sounds practiced to me. Call me insensitive, but I don't see how a rape that didn't happen can produce the lifelong trauma that she seems to be acting out.

Old Lurker

Blue...come to think of it, raise your hand if you have locks on your BR doors at all? I sure don't and never had.

maryrose

Caro:
Hi and how are you and your new husband?
Always great to hear from you!

Extraneus

Oh the cute coffee joke again.

henry

the fake humanity coffee request.

BABY BLIMP SOON.😎

Rachel looks very healthy for a prosecutor

henry

its the school admin from Ferris Buehler doing the questioning. (based on a quick voice sample and body motions)

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

We have locks on our bedroom doors, but on the inside, for privacy. Not to keep people in.

My son has locked himself inside, and we've had to unlock them.

Miss Marple (the real one)

I mostly have listened without watching and it seems to me that the constant tearfulness is overdone. She also has a little girl voice which is designed to gain sympathy.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Oh, my God ... she has to re-read the letter?

Beasts of England

Now it's bullshit time. What a fraud...

squaredance

It is about shredding the Constitution in general--abortion is just a part of it.

I had to turn it off--my blood pressure cannot take it; How degrading for the country. It is like a combination of Stalin show trails, Maoist "confession" displays, Bolivar circles and a Berkley PTA meeting. What juvenile nonsense.

So degrading to have to have the senate display such displaceable antics.

Shame on them. If this sort of nonsense has any real effect on the midterms we are doomed.

I will have to rely on live blogging

Janet 🚬

((Watching. Ford is reading her statement in a tearful voice that sounds practiced to me. Call me insensitive, but I don't see how a rape that didn't happen can produce the lifelong trauma that she seems to be acting out.))

Amen.

Extraneus

She did say she was able to let herself out, so it's not inconsistent with the lock being on the the inside. Same with the Matt Lauer story.

caro

Doing very well, MR. thanks for asking. Had to silence the stream when ChiFi was pontificating and now can’t get it back. Counting on the live blog here.

Come on, Jane. Snarc like in the old days.

Michael (fpa P4F) ... Stop the Witch Hunt - Stop the Coup !

She doesn't know if her letter to Feinstein is accurate without reading it?

Millions of people are watching this at home and saying to themselves "Why does she need to read her own letter to see if it is accurate?"

Old Lurker

If our Senate is the greatest deliberative body in the world, can you imagine the others?

BlueOx

She did say she was able to let herself out, so it's not inconsistent with the lock being on the the inside. Same with the Matt Lauer story.

Yes, but she's claiming that she was trapped in the room because they "locked her inside". If all you have to do to get out is "turn the key", you're not locked inside.

Extraneus

Claustrophobia.

Miss Marple (the real one)

I am tired of this already.

Now Feinstein is putting a bunch of letters from women and women physicians across the country into the record. Not relevant but Grassley allowed it.

Tom Bowler

Sorry, but I can't stand to listen to Feinstein. Turning it off for a while.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Hosting Google interns. Isn't that special?

Jane

"Come on, Jane. Snarc like in the old days."

Boy do I miss you!

jimmyk on iPhone

Can’t watch this travesty. Barring a confession by Blasey that she made it all up, no minds will be changed, and the MSM will have a new heroine for the next generation. I do expect Kavanaugh to be forceful and effective. Any R who votes against him should be strung up.

BlueOx

All this talk about being surprised by reporters coming to her doesn't square with her removing all her social media postings before anyone knew who she was.

Old Lurker

"If all you have to do to get out is "turn the key", you're not locked inside."

Can't believe it was keyed both sides...that is probably not even legal for fire reasons.

At most it is a "privacy lock" as you see in bathrooms. Punch a button and it is locked from the other side...turn the knob to exit like a normal doorknob.

But again, it is very rare to see privacy locks on BRs - especially back then.

Threadkiller

Grassley stopping a prosecutor mid-questioning is the death nail of this circus.

Sorry, Brett. This is going to be a tough one to overcome.

To use Tom R as an example, when he stays in a steady engagement of what he represents to be facts it is easy to dismantle his argument. When Tom R takes significant breaks throughout the dialogue refreshing his memory becomes the time hog.

stuck on stupid

I was under impression thatn people going for PHDs in psycholgy have to go through physchoanalysis themselves. Where are the physcholgocial analysis prior to 2012. Now she is trying to make the different versions consistent with each other.

Old Lurker

Jimmy "and the MSM will have a new heroine for the next generation."

And her financial upside is unlimited.

maryrose

Not watching but taping it.
I have prayed for justice and hope that the better angels triumph.
Saw DiFi pontificating and felt sick to my stomach.
She is polling at 40 to Leon’s 29 so s lit of undecided voter in California.
She needs this to win re- election.
I bet she told Murkowski that.
I remain hopeful the truth will win out.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

In a real attack, though, I can see where an attacker might be holding or pushing the door closed against her attempts to get out.

If it's the same attacker, though, this leaves one hand to cover her mouth, but no other hands free to assault her.

maryrose

A lot

Dave (in MA)
I do expect Kavanaugh to be forceful and effective.
But he's one of those dreaded white males, jimmyk.
fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I see a "made-for-TV" movie and book deal in the works.

Miss Marple (the real one)

Notice how her voice gets stronger when she is asked to affirm something as opposed to her reading her testimony.

 joan

The Republicans evidently have decided not to do anything to rattle this woman. They are afraid to enrage (even any more) women voters.

The prosecutor is so deliberate and slow, she won't have time to expose Ford. The setup is not conducive to exposing Ford's motivations...unless things change dramatically.

I know it's early, but unless the Republicans have a grand plan, this will not expose Ford for ulterior motives.

Old Lurker

You are stretching, fdcol. Holding a door closed is not the same as being locked in.

Extraneus

She remembers a lot of details for someone who doesn't know whose house it was or how she got there or got home.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

"I know it's early, but unless the Republicans have a grand plan, this will not expose Ford for ulterior motives."

It's nothing but he said/she said.

β€”β€”-peter

This format is horrible

Michael (fpa P4F) ... Stop the Witch Hunt - Stop the Coup !

She is certain of Kavanaugh's identity . . .
for *verrrry* scientific-sounding reasons -
but she admits to episodic memory with large gaps and lapses in her memories.

Sure - no existential contradiction in those two statements.

Beasts of England

She ate up Grassley's five minutes by reading a letter she wrote herself? What the heck?!

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

So far, not as dramatic as the Hill/Thomas hearings.

Miss Marple (the real one)

Now Leahy is using his time to rant about the FBI and bring up Anita Hill. Also the MeToo movement.

Leahy also tells her that she will be a heroine. (Book deal coming.)

Now Leahy is making reference to Whelan's theory which was absolutely ridiculous to post onTwitter.

jimmyk

But again, it is very rare to see privacy locks on BRs - especially back then.

But as Blue Ox pointed out, it's much worse. Even if there was a lock, it's virtually certain it would have opened easily from the inside--anything else would probably be against fire codes. And in the remote chance it didn't open from the inside, how did she escape? Maybe her real name is Chris Houdini Ford?

matt - deplore me if you must

"I remember everything. I remember nothing."

Old Lurker

Joan "this will not expose Ford for ulterior motives."

No need to expose her motive. We know it when we see it. Even if it is just that she is a whack job.

Miss Marple (the real one)

Note how she keeps referencing parts of the brain and memory.

AND although she claims that she suffers from claustrophobia due to having her mouth covered, her most indelible memory is the boys laughing at her.

jimmyk

The bottom line is that any of a dozen JOMers could do a better job questioning her than the feckless Rs on this committee.

Dave (in MA)

.

BlueOx

OL,

Very familiar with the type of lock you describe.

My only point is she keeps trying to paint this picture of being "locked inside" when she wasn't, by her own admission. She even claimed that she wanted two doors on her own house.

It's a small point, but she keeps shifting between vagaries and details wanting us to fill in the blanks. But the details don't add up.

Extraneus

She must be trying to get somewhere with this "at least" line of questioning.

Threadkiller

Ford's most significant memory of the event was "the laughter."

Not her titty getting squeezed? Her woochie tickled? The tearing of her clothes?

rse

Her comment about memory to me sounded rehearsed and the specificity of the vocabulary she is using certainly is. https://molecularbrain.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1756-6606-3-15

That specificity once again is designed to bolster her claim in a way that actually doesn't ring true.

Threadkiller

With all this confusion over the lock, maybe Ford should be a chick-cop.

Beasts of England

Her chicken scratch note from the polygraph test was indeed genuine!!

I don't mind Dr. Ballsy Fraud's Mr. Magoo eyeglasses or the overgrown Farrah Fawcett hairdo - both bold if ill-advised fashion statements. The Hillary Clinton pantsuit is a mistake though. #KavanaughHearings

Threadkiller

http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2018/09/is-anyone-else-watching-this.html

Extraneus

Who could possibly remember such details from so long ago even if they weren't drinking? One beer gets a 16-year-old girl fairly high, besides.

Old Lurker

Blue Ox...that was a good catch on your part.

It is all a lie.

Texas Liberty Gal

Why is everybody so upset? Certainly none of you expected anything from the R's. I'm waiting for Kavanaghs attorney and the other lady hired by the committee to cross examine her. Have faith.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Durbin does NOT speak for me.

Stephanie, Nene, Not your Normal Grandma

new fred...

Clarice Feldman

Be back later--mercifully I have to go out for a while,

Miss Marple (the real one)

Oh, brother. I wish someone would come in and charge Durbin with sexual harassment right now.

Miss Marple (the real one)

TLG,

DOES Kavanaugh's attorney get to cross-exam?

I am not sure of the rules here.

Jane

I don't think Kavanaugh's attorney gets to cross-examine.

BlueOx

She remembers the specific door at the Safeway that she entered as a teenager, but can't provide details about when/where the "assault" took place?

Six weeks later she has a photographic memory??!

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Chris Stirewalt is an idiot.

Miss Marple (the real one)

Now we get a 15-minute break because this is so stressful for her.

I again point out that the tearful voice is not in evidence when she is asked to affirm something and isn't remembering to portray herself as a victim.

BlueOx

I'm sorry, but that was it for me.

She remembers, in minute detail, a chance encounter with Judge, but can't be expected to recall details from six weeks earlier?

Porchlight

New thread, thanks TM

Tom R

To use Tom R as an example, when he stays in a steady engagement of what he represents to be facts it is easy to dismantle his argument. When Tom R takes significant breaks throughout the dialogue refreshing his memory becomes the time hog.

Since there are more important things going on today I'm not going to allow you to bait me into another argument over stupid shit that will clutter up the board and annoy everyone else. Go ahead and self-score yourself another win.

fdcol63 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Trials have an ebb and flow.

We just need to wait for Kavanaugh's response. Opinions often change over the course of testimony.

So this crap I'm hearing on Fox needs to be kept in context.

Buckeye

Blasey-Ford nominated for an Academy Award.

BlueOx

When do we get to the part where Nixon sent her up the river to Cambodia for Christmas?

 Bela1

What a charade
She sounds at times like she's fake whiny
She mentions Brett this & Brett that. It later calls him Mr Cavanaugh?
She's lying this is ridiculous
I hope this female atty asking questions nails her arse against the door

GUS at home

Kind of sucks Tom.

Dorothy Jane

When I am on the verge of tears, real tears, I can't speak because of the lump in my throat. And I have to stop talking and swallow. She never did that. However, she may be good enough to convince Collins and Flake et al.

Threadkiller

I'm not going to allow you to bait me into another argument

That is a first. You are on the scoreboard now.

3-1

maryrose

Grassley can always get his time back.
I have an idea wrt Flake.
Some rich Republican offer him a great job in exchange for his yes vote on Kavanaugh.

 Bela1

Despite the usual crap from Dems I'm becoming
more confident that this prosecutor will go for the jugular
As excruciating it is to watch Here's hoping that happens & the truth comes out

Rocco

She said she took the polygraph on the same day as her grandmothers funeral. Then she said or maybe the next day. Wasn't this polygraph pretty recent?
