The NY Times runs a guest op-ed with a perfectly sensible message - Let’s Agree Not to Kill One Another.
However, in classic "This is how you get more Trump" fashion, the author, a port-side Green, can only manage to criticize Trump and offer as a US example the case of Dr. Blasey Ford.
As an attempt to persuade the left not to shoot at righties, this might find some traction [Narrator: It won't find traction].
However, it fails as an attempt to change minds on the right by failing to notice that these social media death threats have moved to the real world on the left as well as the right. Could he have mentioned that Republican Congressman were exposed to actual gunfire by an aggrieved Bernie-bro, not just nasty comments on someone's blog? Could he have found any number of examples of righties getting death threats from the left, including Brett Kavanaugh's family?
Of course he could have. But when faced with a choice between criticizing his own tribe as well as the other, he backed down. Utterly predictable, yet disappointing.
The Crushed by Cory statement is terribly written. Reads like a con confusing cops with verbiage.

I hope Repubs give renewed attention to illegal immigration (the Wall), reduce gov't control of health care and some of the side issues: don't fund pro-Dem media with taxpayer money, don't fund Planned Parenthood, reduce size and scope of gov't including deletion of some agencies and so on.
It's really Congress holding things back. We don't need to turn the world upside down, just give some new ideas a chance while eliminating the old ideas that provably did not work.

I still say that the climate change thing is a way to get government money, support a bunch of lefties in various climate organizations, and manipulate the public into doing their bidding.
If I remember correctly, back in the mid 70's to early 80's the climate change fear was a new ice age. Those were the years when we had the big blizzards and Reagan's inauguration had to be held indoors due to the cold.
Then the line somehow changed to global warming. I figure part of it was the realization that cold weather (or the fear of it) only increased demand for fossil fuels. THAT wasn't going to fund the liberal grifters, so they did a 180 and went for the warming line. We had a couple of hot summers and then we started hearing about how we were all going to fry like bacon in a skillet.
Well, I am still in the belief that it's all hokum and besides, I hate wind farms which remind me of old science fiction movies, kill birds, and make a noise which drives some people bonkers.

MM-it's more than that. Climate change and the contention it is man-made gets used to force political control over ALL human systems, including people.
I am not alleging that. I have the admissions on point, but interestingly one of the seminal papers being pushed last week had a lily steyer as the co-author. It turns out to be tom's niece and jim's daughter (common sense media the creator of the K-12 media literacy standards).
She graduated from stanford in 2015 with a human biology degree, which would put her in paul ehrlich's orbit. He created that program and then went to work at turnaround for children. She has left there and now works as a Democratic Party organizer in iowa.
See how it all fits together?

The first question to ask is cui bono?
MBS has pissed off a huge segment of the Saudi elite. Locking up grifters and giving women the right to drive would have a whole bunch of sheikhs ready to start swinging scimitars.
The internal politics of the Saud family are wild and wooly and who knows who is stabbing who in the back.
I am really doubting the Hollywood scenario the Turks are pushing. If anyone saw any of Guy Ritchie's films people who dismember other people usually do it so that the evidence is minimal. Even the bones are fed to the pigs. Admittedly it is tough to find a pig in Turkey.
So who benefits? The grifters, the Turks, the oil speculators, the Russians et al. A lot of our enemies in other words.
Kashoggi was a prominent critic of the Sauds and a favorite of our Left, so he is a newly minted martyr right up there with Blowsie Ford. very convenient when the new alliance with Israel is forming.
The Left has proven that they will do anything to advance their agenda. Kashoggi's martyrdom against the nasty Saudis fits their narrative beautifully. And so I am waiting for real evidence instead of the Turkish version of CSI.
I wonder what Mossad knows. They are better plugged in than anyone over there.

From my time in the sand box, and one where I didn't even attempt to understand their internal politics, I was relatively aware of the hierarchy.
We were building a few refineries, an industrial city, and airports. So, I got to meet some Princes' but had no idea if they were 2nd in line of 562nd in line. I didn't care. I did know that it was an oppressive society if you decided to sin against the tenets of wahabi Islam.
We were culturally, ethinically, and religiously isolated inside compounds. We made our own alcohol but never invited SA friends and let them know. That brings in the mutaween (religious police) the most feared enforcers among both the believers and us drunken American/Brits/The Whole non-Islamic World.
All that said, they are tribal, in the steroid sense of tribal. If MBS is the real deal and holds the power, reformer or fake (they do that a lot), then there is no way in hell, the stuffing out of Khashoggi could never have ocurred. No way. Unless it was Duke Ferdinand prelude to a coup by the lower princes with the professional military and G2 help. No Way.
This was a Sand Box payback play, they thought no one would pay attention to, and they were right but they didn't consider the Resistance, the Left, and the hope to finally pin Trump on something that would stick. LOL.

EPA Reverses Obama Era Last Minute Uranium Mining Regulations
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Friday that it is withdrawing the pending rulemaking for uranium mining and thorium mill tailings.
The regulations were put in place on Jan. 19, 2017, just hours before Barack Obama left office and President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The timing alone tells us it was bad policy. If it was decent policy it'd have been implemented during Obama's previous 7 years and 364 days in office.

Very tough call, Maryrose. Walker is as slimy as I suspected tho' he kept it hidden behind a veneer of being an Ex-Republican Independent for years. Begich is as smooth talking a Politician as I ever met---he is exceptionally good at not answering a question. Our good Republican Candidate came down with some variety of Cancer so we are stuck with the uninspiring Dunleavy, but he has loads of experience in Juneau.
All the benefit of the Media and the Native Tribes etc will go to Begich, and the Unions that supported Walker will most probably all go to Begich, since as Mayor Begich busted the City Budget by millions in giving out massive pay-raises to the City's Public Unions. My local fear is that most of the jobs we've had up here over the last 8 years were sort of Govt funded type of Enviro-jobs that usher in all those nutcases from California and Washington State, intent on turning Anchorage into the next Portland or Seattle, and in our small population state it really doesn't take much to flip the state by promising Federal lucre to whoever has their palm out.
I do not have a feel at all for the race at this time, so here is a local editorial from the Conservative side to chew on: Going to get interesting

“Complexity is a problem for journalism, which is in the business of simplification.”
No. It is in the business of clarity and accuracy. Think nautical chart.
“It is hard to avoid the simple observation that to some extent you get what you pay for.”
No. You get what you expect or you get someone better.
“As one 40-something editor ... observed, ‘... the one defining feature ... is how dumb we’ve become.’”
Can someone say “schools?”
“... the best young talents abandon journalism for jobs in public relations or public affairs.”
Why do such specialty schools call the major “PR-J” unless they have lost direction?
...“they’re often poorly equipped or poorly prepared or simply lacking the time needed to do that.”
Perhaps, in the salmon instance, but elsewhere do not overlook:
Inbred.

It is such a shame. When I was young I wanted to major in journalism - I was even editor of our high school paper. However, by the late 60's the area was already showing signs of deterioration, so when I went back to school after a 5-year hiatus, I went in a different direction.
One wonders what the reporters like Ernie Pyle would make of today's crew.

saying they are honorable reporters trying to get it right, but who get it wrong simply because they lack the experience and knowledge needed to report about it correctly.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
SBW, (and other's who might not have clicked), here's Medred making the case for NYTimes integrity:
...With this story as with so many others, the problem isn’t with reporters trying to write inaccurate stories. Almost all reporters are trying to write good, sound stories.
But they’re often poorly equipped or poorly prepared or simply lacking the time needed to do that. In a perfect world, any decent reporter given the time can write a solid story about anything.
Given the time.
These days with the internet demanding news before it happens there often isn’t the time. In cases where editors can match reporters with knowledge to stories that require background, that problem can be solved. But there aren’t that many editors left and the few out there often don’t have the bodies around to match anything to anything.
They’re sort of stuck with what they’ve got, as the NYT apparently was, and thus sometimes go off the tracks.
But wait, there's more!
...Dumbing down
Complexity is a problem for journalism, which is in the business of simplification.
The New York Times was once a leader in dealing with this problem. It was famous in the business for its effort to develop so-called “beat reporters” as expert in the news they covered – politics, the environment, the military, etc.
All of that begin to fade in the digital age as “continuous news” came into play...
...newspapers began laying off less-experienced employees as budgets shrunk. Since that time, the trend has gone rapidly the other direction. Higher paid, older reporters are gone, replaced by lower paid, younger reporters.
As Kyle Pope observed in the special, spring/summer report for the Columbia Journalism Review, “news companies continue to cut their most senior (and best-paid) people, and lower levels of hiring have made what had been a tight market for new arrivals even more brutal. If you do manage to land a job? The pay is dismal, with the starting median salary for a reporter stagnating at $34,150.”
It is hard to avoid the simple observation that to some extent you get what you pay for...
But blame Trump!
...As one 40-something editor still hanging on at mainstream publication observed, “the whole business is a disaster area. I think the one defining feature of the information age is how dumb we’ve become.”
...“Young reporters are looking to do real journalism, but can be disappointed when they’re only called upon to churn out 10 stories a day and aggregate content,” Julie Hartenstein, associate dean for career services at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism told Bilton. “Also, it’s not much of a golden age if you can’t pay your bills.”
As a result, a lot of the best young talents abandon journalism for jobs in public relations or public affairs.
And of course it's all Trump's fault as Medred reminds us in the second paragrph:)
...The case didn’t exactly involve the “fake news” of which President Donald Trump regularly and usually wrongly accuses the country’s most influential on-paper news source...
Interesting ain't it---Medred damns Trump for calling out the Media for "Fake News," then Medred spends 20 paragraphs telling us why the reporters keep getting it wrong.

I could do that sbw. But I would need a big plane:) Thanks for the invite.
I think the last time I landed there was around 1967. Doing a bomb/nav exercise.

I found it a tremendous stretch to inject global warming and climate change into Sir Gawain. This was from an award winning Oxford Professor of Poetry.

Sounds like a quest for Sir Booker.

Nice reply, SBW.
I posted before I caught up to that. I guess Twain's great observation "A Journalist is a reporter who's out of a job" no longer applies.
New version---"A journalist is a Public Relations flunky."

Just got a very nice perk from my WSJ subscription; a 1 year free sub to the Times of London.
Niall Ferguson has an excellent article on how identity politics is destroying the Left. If the Dems do somehow win in a few weeks the next Congress could be a complete zoo with Mensheviks and Bolsheviks, Octoberists, Cadets and Socialist Revolutionaries all denouncing each other. Best to sow chaos if they by chance do win the election.

Not climate science? They're experts in that!

Why can college dean's think they can teach you all you need to know?
JiB, I was brief and thus ambiguous. He wanted me to hone thinking skills first. Then, later, in J-School, they could add tools explicit to the craft of journalism.
Dean Clark at Syracuse was old school and good.

Daddy and Jimmyk:
Thank you for your Alaska update.
Will early voting make a difference?
Will some leave it blank because they wanted Walker the Independent?
It seems a sleazy way to win an election.
Begich has a lot of experience in that.
Go Dallas!

In this day and age Twain would probably have said it this way: "In this country we have 2 political parties---The Republicans and the Journalists."

Judicial Watch Files Bar Complaint Against Christine Blasey Ford’s Lawyers
Details of the complaint at the link.
I pay Judicial Watch, and Project Veritas, and I hope there's no let-up on exposing the whole Blowsey caper. Can't believe no Senator has referred Feinstein to the Ethics Committee yet, or the gay Senator Booker who bragged about violating Senate rules.

Sorry, JiB, I'd invite you to LBK but I won't be there then--go to Jane's she'll see that you're fed.
Thanks, MM.

25 this morning. Based on the wooly caterpillars I’ve seen this year, glaciers will return this winter.
Henry,
Currently 48 and snow only down to the level of Flattop Mt. Our surrounding hills look like they are a cake with white icing. If i wasnt so tired I think I could stil do a Kinkaid bike ride today. Global Warming is wunnerful, wunnerful!

Ext--what is actually happening is that the Trump administration is rolling back some of the more outrageous Obama policies interpreting statutes barring discrimination by sex to mean "sexual orientation" and claimed "gender", even though the laws at issue make no mention of such matters. If they want to change the law, petition the legislature to do so. Instead they are changing the meaning of commonly understood terms to mean whatever they want them to mean for political purposes.
