However, in classic "This is how you get more Trump" fashion, the author, a port-side Green, can only manage to criticize Trump and offer as a US example the case of Dr. Blasey Ford.

As an attempt to persuade the left not to shoot at righties, this might find some traction [Narrator: It won't find traction].

However, it fails as an attempt to change minds on the right by failing to notice that these social media death threats have moved to the real world on the left as well as the right. Could he have mentioned that Republican Congressman were exposed to actual gunfire by an aggrieved Bernie-bro, not just nasty comments on someone's blog? Could he have found any number of examples of righties getting death threats from the left, including Brett Kavanaugh's family?

Of course he could have. But when faced with a choice between criticizing his own tribe as well as the other, he backed down. Utterly predictable, yet disappointing.

From my time in the sand box, and one where I didn't even attempt to understand their internal politics, I was relatively aware of the hierarchy.

Very tough call, Maryrose. Walker is as slimy as I suspected tho' he kept it hidden behind a veneer of being an Ex-Republican Independent for years. Begich is as smooth talking a Politician as I ever met---he is exceptionally good at not answering a question. Our good Republican Candidate came down with some variety of Cancer so we are stuck with the uninspiring Dunleavy, but he has loads of experience in Juneau.

All the benefit of the Media and the Native Tribes etc will go to Begich, and the Unions that supported Walker will most probably all go to Begich, since as Mayor Begich busted the City Budget by millions in giving out massive pay-raises to the City's Public Unions. My local fear is that most of the jobs we've had up here over the last 8 years were sort of Govt funded type of Enviro-jobs that usher in all those nutcases from California and Washington State, intent on turning Anchorage into the next Portland or Seattle, and in our small population state it really doesn't take much to flip the state by promising Federal lucre to whoever has their palm out.

These days with the internet demanding news before it happens there often isn’t the time. In cases where editors can match reporters with knowledge to stories that require background, that problem can be solved. But there aren’t that many editors left and the few out there often don’t have the bodies around to match anything to anything.

They’re sort of stuck with what they’ve got, as the NYT apparently was, and thus sometimes go off the tracks.

The New York Times was once a leader in dealing with this problem. It was famous in the business for its effort to develop so-called “beat reporters” as expert in the news they covered – politics, the environment, the military, etc.

All of that begin to fade in the digital age as “continuous news” came into play...

...newspapers began laying off less-experienced employees as budgets shrunk. Since that time, the trend has gone rapidly the other direction. Higher paid, older reporters are gone, replaced by lower paid, younger reporters.

As Kyle Pope observed in the special, spring/summer report for the Columbia Journalism Review, “news companies continue to cut their most senior (and best-paid) people, and lower levels of hiring have made what had been a tight market for new arrivals even more brutal. If you do manage to land a job? The pay is dismal, with the starting median salary for a reporter stagnating at $34,150.”

It is hard to avoid the simple observation that to some extent you get what you pay for...

But blame Trump!

Judicial Watch Files Bar Complaint Against Christine Blasey Ford’s Lawyers

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a complaint to the Board of Professional Responsibility of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals of Debra S. Katz, Lisa J. Banks, and Michael R. Bromwich for violating the rules of professional responsibility in their representation of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee during the hearings on the nomination of the Honorable Brett Kavanaugh.

According to the Judicial Watch complaint, by not informing their client Dr. Ford that Sen. Chuck Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee offered in a letter to “fly female staff investigators to meet Dr. Ford… in California, or anywhere else, to obtain (her) testimony,” Katz, Banks, and Bromwich violated the following District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct:

Rule l.4(a) – A lawyer shall keep a client reasonably informed about the status of a matter and promptly comply with reasonable requests for information.

Rule 1.4(b) – A lawyer shall explain a matter to the extent reasonably necessary to permit the client to make informed decisions regarding the representation.

Lindsey Graham would continue Justice Department-FBI probe as Judiciary Committee chairman

If Republicans hold the Senate and Sen. Lindsey Graham becomes chairman of the Judiciary Committee, he’ll continue to investigate the Justice Department and the FBI’s actions ahead of the 2016 election, the South Carolina Republican said Sunday.

Mr. Graham praised the work House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, and Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, South Carolina Republican, have done in their probe of the controversial Trump dossier’s connection to a FISA warrant on Trump campaign associate Carter Page.

The two chairman will also be interviewing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Wednesday about him having signed off on the FISA warrant, as well as reports he offered to wear a wire to record President Trump in order to use the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

“I want the house to keep doing what they are doing and if Nancy Pelosi takes over, all this goes away,” Mr. Graham told Fox News on Sunday. “We are not going to turn our back on this. If I’m chairman, we are going to get to the bottom of this.”

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CONSIDERING POLICY THAT ERADICATES ‘TRANSGENDER’ IDENTITY

President Donald Trump’s administration is considering defining gender as a static, unchangeable, biological fact that is designated at birth and can never be altered.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking to create a legal definition of sex under Title IX, a federal civil rights law the deals with education, The New York Times reported Sunday after obtaining a memo from the administration.

HHS will define gender as determined “on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable,” according to the memo, TheNYT reported. The definition would define gender as either female or male, according to the person’s genitalia at birth. Discrepancies would be determined by genetic testing, the memo indicates.

“Sex means a person’s status as male or female based on immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth,” the memo reads. “The sex listed on a person’s birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person’s sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence.”

The Trump administration claims that former president Barack Obama instituted policies that wrongly allowed “sex” to include homosexuality and gender identities, which paved the way for individuals to choose their gender.

“Courts and the previous administration took advantage of this circumstance to include gender identity and sexual orientation in a multitude of agencies, and under a multitude of laws … [leading] to confusion and negative policy consequences in health care, education and other federal contexts,” the memo reads.

News of the proposed change has many people feeling afraid and uncertain, according to Human Rights Campaign legal director Sarah Warbelow. “Transgender people are frightened,” she said, according to TheNYT.

The proposed definition is “an extremely aggressive legal position that is inconsistent with dozens of federal court decisions,” National Center for Transgender Equality policy director Harper Jean Tobin told TheNYT.

Even more people are afraid and uncertain without this rule change. Female athletes, for example.

Ext--what is actually happening is that the Trump administration is rolling back some of the more outrageous Obama policies interpreting statutes barring discrimination by sex to mean "sexual orientation" and claimed "gender", even though the laws at issue make no mention of such matters. If they want to change the law, petition the legislature to do so. Instead they are changing the meaning of commonly understood terms to mean whatever they want them to mean for political purposes.
