Why is it suddenly the fever dream of every Valley techie or Davos technocrat to construct an ex nihilo 'smart city' somewhere, usually in cahoots with some autocrat? This is just a euphemism for megalomaniacal fantasies around exclusive cities sans the poor and unskilled, right?

All of those techie people seem to be consumed with how superior they are in their intellect and morality. Creepy bunch of people if you ask me.
I would be fine if they walled themselves away from the rest of us and left us alone, but they won't be satisfied unless they control us as well.

PnP,
The team that put together the discovery and recovery of the Central America were from an adjacent dept at Ginormous Research. I knew a couple of them pretty well. Their neighbors were the backers of the project. Sadly, I think the original loss was a jinx and that carried over to the recovery people. No one benefited. :(

JMH, yes, I saw your followup. I know next to nothing about the Catholic mass, other than having sung some of this stuff in choirs back in the day. But the wiki page on the "Great Mass in C minor" has mp3 links to the whole thing, and the Youtube is definitely the music of the opening "Kyrie" section. I think what may have happened is that someone set the "Agnus Dei" to the same music so as to "complete" the mass. (The same thing happened with the Requiem: Mozart's student "finished" it by reusing music from the beginning.) Anyway, whatever it is, it's great music. I recall it was a dramatic moment in the movie "Amadeus."

Good morning. Well, the kid is still without power. The city has announced 90% of customers have been restored; guess I'll have to be satisfied to be that top 1% guy!
* * *
I see the Democrats are still whistling past their graveyard but all you really need to know, as far as I'm concerned, is this: The New York Times called Florida's 27th Congressional District "the best Democratic pick-up opportunity in the country" because of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's retirement.
In the 2016 presidential election, Florida CD27 favored Hillary Clinton by 20 freaking points, her highest margin for *any* Republican-held district (Cook Political Report’s Partisan Voting Index says the District is a +5 Democrat lean).
And a quick note that may be relevant: Miami-Dade County is the only one of Florida’s 67 counties that does *not* have an elected Supervisor of Elections; the County mayor (a Republican) appointed the current supervisor.
So, it's "the best Democratic pick-up opportunity in the country," huh? Well, this poll says the Democrats are toast:

http://floridapolitics.com/archives/277425-poll-shalala-in-trouble
She's more than likely going to lose because she's about as unlikeable as Hillary is. But even if she wins . . .
she'll only barely squeak by.
There is no blue wave; the possibility of a Red Tsunami, however, is still out there. It may not be probability but it remains a very real possibility.

The reference above to smart cities ties to the idea now that political authorities can set goals for so-called human 'systems' like a city and then use data to monitor gap between what is desired and what is and adjust accordingly. It's an update on collectivist five year plans, but still collectivist.
It ties to what I wrote about today http://invisibleserfscollar.com/embracing-a-troika-of-collectivist-social-engineers-as-defining-student-learning/ except the city is a different level of Urie Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Systems Theory from the microlevel of the human mind. Both, though, have bullseyes painted on them in a Bipartisan manner.

henry--FYI
PROGRESSIVES TARGET COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS: NextGen America, a political organization funded by Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer that's focused on the youth vote, has been organizing heavily on community college campuses this election cycle. Among the 400 college campuses it's targeted in 11 states, 135 are community colleges.
— The drive has led to 20,000 community college students registering to vote, the group said. That includes 1,500 voters at Modesto Junior College in California and 1,085 voters at Lansing Community College in Michigan.
— Sarah Landers, a campus organizer with NextGen focused on Mesa Community College in Arizona, told Morning Education the students she's worked with are excited to see the campaign on their campus. The work they are doing is not just about voter registration, but educating students on propositions in play and candidates, she said.
— Landers said many students are recent high school graduates who saw their teachers walk off the job last spring as part of the #Redfored movement, and are energized now about increased K-12 funding. Another key issue is free community college — an idea David Garcia, the Democratic candidate for governor, has embraced.
— "They experienced the walkout, they experienced their teachers going on strike, and they are excited to see what will happen in this next legislative session," Landers said.

Something I think we could do without. Indiana didn't observe Daylight Savings Time until Mitch Daniels pushed it through the legislature, something I hold against him to this day.
It used to be that Arizona and Indiana were the two hold outs because the publisher of the Indianapolis Star and the Arizona Republic, Eugene Pulliam, hated it and fulminated in the papers every time anyone suggested it.

Warren seems to think that one ancestor six to ten generations back validates her claim. That's nonsense on stilts, given that she was happy to be listed as a minority for HLS's publicity and thus was certainly claiming a much greater inheritance than that.
And how nice that Donna Shalala is doing poorly.

He's a GENIUS I tell ya....a GENIUS!!
from the Hill - "Warren gave the results of the analysis, conducted by Stanford University professor and MacArthur genius Carlos Bustamante, to The Boston Globe."
----------------
When Dems are caught out in a lie, they ALWAYS get 'a friendly' to do an investigation or study to exonerate them.
Hillary did that with Benghazi. A total sham led by Pickering.
A few bits -
"Among the revelations:
*Secretary of State Hillary Clinton handpicked the two leaders of the ARB who were given the job of investigating her department.
*Several senior Clinton advisers were provided draft copies of the ARB report before it was released to the public.
*The panel was largely staffed by current and former State Department officials and worked out of State Department offices.
*The ARB did not speak with nine key military officials on the ground in Libya or Germany who were deeply involved in the US response to the attacks. Among those who was never interviewed: Lt. Colonel Steven Gibson, who was on the ground in Tripoli and whom State Department official Greg Hicks has testified was on the receiving end of the “stand-down” order that Obama officials have repeatedly disclaimed.
*Although the ARB did not interview Secretary Clinton as part of its investigation, they provided her with a two-hour briefing about the details of the report before it was finalized and released to the public.
*The board did not interview either Cheryl Mills or Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides, another close adviser to Clinton.

So Elizabeth Warren is *possibly* 1/1024 (0.09%) Native American.
Scientists say the average European-American is 0.18% Native American. (nytimes.com/2014/12/25/sci…)

We will never get rid of it. As an early riser and gardener, I hate it. Moving the day hour to the evening means you have that hour when it is HOT. I would rather not have to pull weeds in the dark or wait until 8:30 to get my outside work started.

It's a semiannual JOM tradition. As I always say, people from the western part of time zones don't like it, those from the eastern ends are more likely ok with it. Ironically, Capn', when RODHAM and the RAPIST hire someone, that SOMEONE, is akin to them. DISHONEST and SLEAZY. Who would be a lawyer for those 2 slime balls. Just like OBAMA, money grubbing sycophants are all they attract. No one of any substance would would for a criminal enterprise that is ongoing. 2 words. Lanny Davis.
Apparently he slithered off into relative obscuraty again.

From clarice's front page link--
"The media wants the Saudis to answer questions about Jamal Khashoggi. But maybe the media should be forced to answer why the Washington Post was working with a Muslim Brotherhood propagandist?
The real mystery isn’t Khashoggi’s disappearance. It’s why Republicans aren’t asking those questions.
The media’s relationship with Khashoggi is far more damning than anything the Saudis might have done to him. And the media should be held accountable for its relationship with Osama bin Laden’s old friend."

The mass-monitoring tech, called TLO, is a product of the Chicago-based credit reporting giant TransUnion,

Clarice's Front Page links is at the end of the previous page. It is quite good.
I would like to know why the Muslim Brotherhood hasn't been labeled a terrorist organization here in the US. It is, in many countries.
Are we succumbing to some unknown lobbyist pressure? Or are we letting them hang around in our country so we can keep an eye on their communications and money transactions?
I have no idea.
