Buford Gooch

Help me TM. You’re my last resort. You have blocked me, and I’m pretty sure you didn’t intend to. (I’m sending this from my phone)

Jack is Back!

Buford Gooch

Please help me figure out how to get my ip unblocked.

Jack is Back!

Buford, you're in like Flynn!

Sent TM a tweet asking him to bounce our resident pest. I think his attacks on Clarice border on anti-semetic rhetoric. He is beyond an annoyance now.

Buford Gooch

Help from any other commenter would also be appreciated.

Dave (in MA)

Yeah, but Flynn has a totally different posting style.

Dave (in MA)

JiB, my guess is that TM only has the power to delete comments once they're posted. He's not some kind of super sysadmin; he just set up a blog using some off-the-shelf Typepad services.

Bernardo de la paZ

did you clear the cache on the lun.

So in the chutZpah department you have Nina burleigh with a book about the presidents women, projection on her part?

Buford -- can you use your phone as a wireless hotspot and then connect with your desktop? (That would require you the have a wireless connection on your computer.)

That would give you a totally different IP through your cell phone provider, and would work until you get sorted out for real.

But I agree that you probably got your IP blocked in the skirmish with the troll. (Poor Frau lives in the same town as cleo, and would periodically get blocked, too!)

Bernardo de la paZ

And former?? MI 6 operative Frederick forsyth has a new book about Russian hacking the Iranians an the north Koreans, Jess the twist on the last part.

Hey, Buford. Try rebooting your modem. If you have dynamic IP like most people (who don't pay for static IP), that sometimes refreshes to a new IP.

Old Lurker

Good riddance to Merkle.

Can you link through your history and then go to the latest thread? Daddy found that trick. Don' know what message you are receiving when you try to access JOM.

I have no idea how to help, but you have my sympathy because it would make me crazy.

Terry McAuliffe: Hillary Clinton ‘Is Never Going to Be on a Ballot Again’

McAuliffe tampered down the speculation about Clinton launching another presidential bid on Monday after Clinton declared at an event in New York City Friday that she would “like to be president.”

“It’s hard for Hillary. She got three million more votes than Donald Trump did in the last presidential election. But I feel confident in saying I think Hillary is never going to be on the ballot again, I think she is done running for elected office,” McAuliffe said. “She’s going to be out helping candidates. But I feel very confident in saying she’s not going to run for president.”

Hillary Clinton is not the only Clinton raising speculation about future runs for office.

Her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, raised some eyebrows on Wednesday about her political future when she divulged in an interview she would not rule out running for office, but would only do so “if someone were to step down and retire.”

Merkel out? It's a miracle!

Dave (in MA)

What doesn't?

Jack is Back!

This complaint by Dems about Hillary getting more votes (popular) than Trump tells you all you need to know about their commitment to the US Constitution. If it was up to them they would 86 it in a nano-second,and establish something that would make Tito, Lenin, Mao and Hugo Chavez proud.

The smart tech guys here are Dave, Captain, Henry, and maybe Rick and one of the Jim's. Hopefully they'll show up soon.

Many if not all of us have had posting and site problems over the last week. Miss Marple and I kept getting 403 Forbidden messages when we tried to open JOM. That went away for me after 3 hours dealing with Apple MacBook tech guys and rebooting stuff and cleansing tons of junk, but that may have been coincidence since i think Captain and Henry think that was a fault on Typepads side of the equation.

I use 2 browsers, Firefox and Safari, and Firefox seems to be working better with JOM now than Safari. You might try using a different browser.

Also, if you keep getting that 403 Forbidden message when trying to access JOM, scroll thru your history back to before you were clobbered and open that JOM window, then simply update to the current thread. That worked for me as a quick fix to gain access. Wish I could offer you a real fix. Good luck.

Please help me figure out how to get my ip unblocked.

I can get in from my work computer and my old kindle, but not my new kindle. Have cleared cache and all that stuff.

I'll try the modem trick.

Responding from behind a secure remote curtain: In the course of passing my time watching the consequences of under-treated mental illness I have learned that the ill one uses a lot of IP addresses, some of which are used by also regular commenters here. My guess is that B Gooch is currently on an IP address I blocked a while ago.

Unfortunately IDK which one to unblock. However! Tech jockeys should chime in, but my guess is that restarting the computer *might* jog a new IP address out of the Internet Service provider.

Plan B would be to restart the modem - that, I am pretty sure, will lead to a new IP address being assigned.

Plan C would be to have someone DM me the IP address, I guess. Or email.

Jack is Back!

Been around before but a good reminder for the election:

"Sarah was in the fertilized egg business. She had several hundred young pullets and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. She kept records and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so she bought some tiny bells and attached them to her roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so she could tell from a distance which rooster was performing. Now, she could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.

Sarah's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning she noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When she went to investigate, she saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To Sarah's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job, and walk on to the next one.

Sarah was so proud of old Butch, she entered him in a Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Peace Prize" they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention?

Vote carefully in the next election. You can't always hear the bells."

Good afternoon! I have an OT question. Has anyone done the Kentucky Bourbon Trail? The daughter and son-in-law are taking a road trip after Christmas to a midwestern state where he will be working. They want to make the trip interesting.

Tom Maguire

Democrats recycled Adlai Stevenson for two losing runs and William Jennings Bryan for three, so who knows?

I woul dlove to see Hillary try again. At sa minimum, there should be a period of donor freeze and oxygen deprivation for the lesser candidates. That suggests Bernie and Joe should encourage her, Kamala, Spartacus et al should be deeply peeved.
OTOH, being a giant-killer is a plus - if she runs, whoever beats her can claim to have beat somebody.

Old Lurker

Jack re Constitution " If it was up to them they would 86 it in a nano-second, "

Hence the last fifty years of using their fellow travelers on the courts at all levels to do just that. If you don't like what the words say, well just make those words mean what you want them to mean. Says Humpty to Alice.

Old Lurker

Tom, you are a good man to put up with all of us.

James D.

Just did my civic duty and voted here in lovely Arlington, VA.

I imagine my vote for the GOP House candidate is pointless because crappy Don Beyer will win with 80% of the vote. But maybe Corey Stewart has a chance even though the disorganized and useless Virginia GOP doesn’t appear to be actively running a campaign against the vile Tim Kaine.

And for School Board, since I assume both candidates on the ballot are more or less communists, I wrote in our very own Janet.

Dave Seville

Interesting and well written story about the gigantic fires on the Great Plains in the spring of 2017.
Very little politics, not much about climate change and the author seems bewildered by but not completely dismissive of this thing the natives refer to as God. The author in fact is overall respectful, understanding and in seemingly very impressed by the rural people he meets and the generosity of Americans...and it's in the New Yorker! WTH?

Dave Seville

Since Hillary will never be president and will never serve any well deserved jail time I can't think of a better use for her than another comically befuddled narcissistic run for Top Banana.
The entertainment value of her spending countless hours attempting unsuccessfully to mimic human emotions and behavior alone is worth the price of admission.

Dave Seville

--In the course of passing my time watching the consequences of under-treated mental illness I have learned that the ill one uses a lot of IP addresses...--

That's funny. Tragic, but funny.

Good job Sarah Sanders!

You betcha! A well-raised child, indeed.
You know her daddy has to be proud!

Mike Huckabee was on Life, Liberty and Levin a couple months ago and yes, he's very proud.

A few minutes ago I was sitting at a six way stop sign (thank you very much, University Heights) and BOOM I get hit from behind. It was more than just a tap so I get out, unlike the FAB who drove into me. She slightly dented the bumper but I decided to let it slide, which in retrospect I'm really pissed off at myself for not inconveniencing everyone behind me because fuck every goddamn one of them. But at no time did the entitled scrunt hoist her fat ass out to apologize for running into me or check what damage she did. Sometimes I hate everybody.

On Topic:

Putting an East German in charge of a country is never a good idea.

Thanks, TM! Old Lurker is right, you are kind to put up with us.

By accident posted this on the dead thread:

Just now it is obvious that he was murdered, that it was premeditated, and that it was by the Saudi's.
Wow I wish Sanders had replied (with a steely glare) "The only place that's 'obvious' [using fingers for air quotes] is in your teensy weensy tiny brain."

TM: "Plan C would be to have someone DM me the IP address, I guess. Or email."

The email listed in the "email me" section is

Is that the one to use to reach you?

Thanks, TM! Old Lurker is right, you are kind to put up with us.

Here in the land of stupid rotaries, I'm having trouble imagining what a six way stop sign even looks like.

The one problem with registration is when Typepad breaks access to the site for the registered like they did last week. As long as it's easy to toggle on and off it would be ok, I guess.

TM -- when everyone with a registered login was locked out and they were using JOM without login, were you still able to control the site with your login? Because if registration means the possibility that you could be locked out of your site for any significant period of time, then that kinda gives you pause...

Thanks for all of the tries at helping. I tried each of the things suggested. None of them worked. I type “test” and post a comment. It pops up with “Your comment has been posted. Post another comment.” And there is my comment, just like it always had been. Then I refresh, and the comment disappears. I don’t comment all that much anyway. Mostly I lurk. So, I can comment from my phone when I feel the need, and read the posts and comments on my desktop.

You need a handler and some dead drops Mr Buford Gooch.

TM, at some point you may want to reconsider requiring people to log in. I don't think logging in is working for most people at the moment due to some sort of Typepad issue, but if and when it does work again, it would require the troll to use a real email addy to get a Typepad login, which could probably be banned with ease.

I know some may disagree but I think it's worth considering.

I'm guessing there'll be over a hundred car wrecks this first real snow day of the season.

Posted by: daddy | October 29, 2018 at 12:56 PM

Local rag: First significant Anchorage snow brings slippery roads and collisions

With the first snow falling across the Anchorage area Monday morning, slick roads are creating hazardous conditions for driving.

By midmorning, Anchorage police had responded to 18 collisions, and 34 cars had skidded into ditches since midnight, said APD spokesman MJ Thim. Three people had minor injuries...

Those numbers aren't as high as usual for the first snow event of the season, Thim said.

Ooops. I see I missed the discussion on that already started above. Well I'd vote for it. His sock-puppeting of Clarice a week or so ago, and others before that, would have been impossible.

In front of me is a copy of Life magazine, dated June 20, 1969. On the cover: Joe Namath. A feature story inside: images from Apollo 10's dress rehearsal flight to the moon; the Apollo 11 landing still a month off; Woodstock, two months away as well. And in an article about 'the future'- 'the Class of 1969' is a piece w/photo quilled by one Hillary Rodham.

Broadway Joe's long retired; two of the Apollo 10 astronauts have died; Neil Armstrong is dead as well and the many of the musicians who made Woodstock rock are gone, too-- and the groovy kids who freely loved in the rain are approaching their 70's now.

Yet the rancid stench of late 60s/early 70s feminism from that ancient Hillary Rodham still stinks up our politics.

Stop pushing yourself on us. Go away. Please, just go away. Like a bad Mexican, your time has passed.

That's the problem I have, too. It looks as if I've successfully posted a comment and then the comment never shows up on the thread.

Postscript- that should have read: Like a bad Mexican meal, your time has passed.

To be fair, Trump is a year or so older than Hillary. He has the wisdom and experience of his years with the energy and capacity of someone a third his age, and also his politics don't suck.

Undertreated implies there was some sort of treatment. Sorry counselor, arguing facts not in evidence.

Good point but! My eternal optimist says the ill one will eventually find the right therapist with the right meds.

My eternal pedant says that, especially for those with a mathematical mind, "undertreatment" could include no treatment or even negative treatment, e.g., crystal meth. And the crystal meth notion makes "facts not in evidence" a bit harder to argue.

Fun fact: not one Democrat attended the new embassy opening in Jerusalem, even though they were all invited.

Personally I would prefer no logon but possibly as an alternative TM might give some very responsible person or 2 who spends all day here the ability to delete troll comments as they appear. Obviously I will happily defer to majority opinion and especially to TM since it's a great Blog and we are all thankful for the great Salon-JOM you've created for us freeloaders.

At the NewsMax news break on the Howie Carr Show we get this on the market movement today:

It looked like we were going to get a recovery rally on Wall Street, but a 350 point gain for the DOW turned into a 550 point loss at one point, before settling down about 250 points down at the close. Most of the turnaround was because of a report that the US was preparing more tariffs against China if talks next month between President Trump and President Xi fail to reach some sortof agreement.

Sadly, it’s kind of moot until typepad gets the logins we have functional again.

"Hillary Clinton is not the only Clinton raising speculation about future runs for office."

Regarding disappearing posts: Since I do so many links, I have discovered that some site links are not accepted by Typepaad and disappear. These inlude American Greatness, Chicks on the Right, and various independent blogs.

I post the links, the post shows up, and when I refresh the link has disappeared.

I now know to use the tinyurl web site and create a new url, but I only do it if I feel the information is important.

A British man wakes up in the hospital bandaged from head to foot.

The doctor comes in and says,

"Ah, I see you've regained consciousness.

Now you probably won't remember,

but you were in a huge pile-up on the motorway.

You're going to be ok, you'll walk again and everything, but...

your penis was severed in the accident &... we couldn't find it.

The man groans, but the doctor goes on,

"You've got £9000 in insurance compensation coming

and we now have the technology to build a new penis.

" They work great but they don't come cheap. It's £1000 an inch."

The man perks up. "So," the doctor says,

"you must decide how many inches you want.

But this is something you should discuss with your wife.

If you had five inches before & get nine inches now she might be a bit put out.

If you had nine inches before & you decide to only invest in five inches now,

she might be disappointed.

It's important that she plays a role in helping you make a decision.

The man agrees to talk it over with his wife.

The doctor comes back the next day, "So, have you spoken with your wife?"

Yes I have," says the man.

"And has she helped you make a decision?"

Yes" says the man.

What is your decision?" asks the doctor.

Because I've been expecting/assuming he would campaign for John James, since he's campaigned in all the other Trump states with Dem Senate incumbents.

Granted, James is further behind than others, but I want him to campaign for everyone. Especially since he just spoke to the black conservatives in DC. It's really important to his message to support James, IMO.

Here's a link to last night's excellent Life, Liberty, and Levin, where Mark had on Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich had a funny but sarcastic comment about John Kerry which started after a discussion, about the 24 minute mark, where the 2 men discuss attacks on Trump's statement that he is a "Nationalist" and Newt brings in a bit of excellent Ben Franklin history by explanation, before quipping the following to Levin's amusement:

Newt: ...Trump is basically saying "Look, these guys on the Left want to sell our country out for some kind of Global Cause, whether its the Paris Accords, or the International Criminal Court, or the United Nations." You know I tell people the reason John Kerry runs all over the world the way he does and the reason he still sees the Iranians, is that in Kerry's mind he was never really the American Secretary of State. He was a World Secretary of State, doing good things on behalf of the World, which is why I don't think you could charge him with The Logan Act, because you'd have to be an American in order to be charged with The Logan Act and Kerry's not psychologically an American. He's psychologically a "person of the Globe," and with regard to people who care about America as sort of pygmies, obsolete.
