As to the bombs I find it very odd that they all show up on the same day all over the country. I would presume ATF and SS are looking at shipping information. It would seem to indicate a sole sender, or worse, coordinated senders. It smells, that's for sure.
I believe that is one of the reasons Trump is moving slowly and cautiously. It could cause a real crisis of confidence in government and that is going to be tough to rebuild."
Another reason for going slow is that there were WAY too many members of the GOP that were deeply involved in all of this (look how the Bush Family machine hates Trump so much) and he has to make sure that he's got firm control of his own side before he takes any big risks. He's making a big step towards that goal now that McCain, Flake, and Corker are out.

The MFM is still pushing that the 2016 election was illegitimate. You can believe what you want but I find it far from ridiculous that people would currently reject facts about the deep state and foreign entities trying to subvert an election.
It's been a lot worse than "slow for me.Inaccessible and says it's a "host" error. Takes several attempts to get in, and more to post. Yet here I am. Jane
Last December the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the overdose rate increased 21% from 2015 to 2016. This month the CDC reported provisional numbers showing another 10% increase in 2017. All of this is happening despite federal and state efforts, using practice guidelines and prescription surveillance programs, that have led to a drop in high-dose opioid prescribing of 41% from 2010 to 2016, and another 16% in 2017. Those same policies have caused heroin and illicit fentanyl (largely smuggled in from Asia employing drug cartel infrastructure) to become the predominant causes of opioid-related overdose deaths as non-medical users migrated over to those cheaper and more available drugs. Yet the new legislation provides funding to augment and enhance prescription surveillance programs.
That’s because the opioid overdose crisis was never really about doctors treating their patients in pain. It has always primarily been caused by non-medical users accessing drugs through the dangerous black market that results from drug prohibition. The overwhelming majority of those overdose victims have multiple drugs in their system when they overdose. The New York City Department of Health reported in 2016 that three-quarters of all overdose deaths were either heroin or fentanyl, and 97% of those overdose victims have multiple drugs onboard — 46% of the time that drug included cocaine. This hardly fits the profile of a patient receiving medical treatment for pain.
The real "victims" here are the increasing numbers of patients suffering needless, sometimes excruciating, pain. I also wouldn't want to be a doctor forced to ration painkiller prescriptions lest I flag the interest of the feds. What we are seeing is an entirely predictable, law enforcement generated, triage that has nothing to do with patient needs or best practices in medicine.
Complicating the matter is a recent U.S. Supreme Court case called Janus v. AFSCME. Last June, a majority of justices on the Supreme Court held that it was a violation of the First Amendment’s free speech clause for government to require non-union members to pay fair-share dues. Even if a Governor Evers could solve the fiscal issues of Act 10 repeal noted above, he must abide by Janus.
The suspicious package sent to Wasserman Schultz's Florida office was intended for former Attorney General Eric Holder but had the wrong address, two law enforcement sources said. It was returned to the Democratic congresswoman because that was the return label on the package, the sources said, adding that it was the same return address for the packages sent to Obama and Clinton.
Author Edward Luttwak made the distinction between force and power in his fascinating book "The Grand Strategy of the Roman Empire: From the First Century CE to the Third":
power is persuading people to cooperate, force is making them obey.
Power is people choosing of their own accord to comply, for reasons they find sound and that serves their self-interest; there is little need for the application of force.
Power is highly leveraged; a relatively small police/military and judiciary is all that's needed.
Force, in contrast, doesn't scale: it's enormously costly in capital and labor to monitor an entire populace and impose control and obedience.
I hate to disagree with Rush but I believe that was an early report that has been debunked. Latest report was that one of the suspicious packages was in fact sent to her.
JiB, sure. 90+ degrees, mosquitos, rattlesnakes, pythons, and alligators plus the impending doom of AGW enhanced hurricane / sharknado events. That's a heck of a draw compared to a little snow.
I must say, Drudge's front page has certainly gotten livelier. When I checked in earlier this am, it was depressingly replete with articles touting Dem advantages from Gillum to Beto, with the odds on Dem's taking the House set at 85%, etc. etc. I almost didn't have the heart to click on Senate slipping away, in the middle of a list of other discouraging developments. WTF?
I decided to bite the bullet, and was relieved to find the full headline read: "Senate slipping away as Dems fight to preserve blue wave." I can hardly remember how long ago the Dem Senate bubble burst — trust the AP, always the last to know! I was amused by the photo accompanying the article (here narrowed to JOM column width):
Unless I'm mistaken, it appears someone has pasted a couple of red pills at the bottom! Considering how the original was cropped, I wonder if that escaped the AP's attention too.
What does look like an October surprise are these bombings, so far, anyway. I'd like to hear more about the detonation mechanics. CNN says the package at "Time Warner Center was constructed with a pipe and wires," and was described by the NYPD Commissioner as a "live explosive device." Has anyone seen anything about how these bombs were to be triggered? Or have they just been taken off for controlled detonation? If I wrapped a bunch of fire crackers together with a fuse, would that qualify as a live explosive device?
I see that CH, JIB and SBW are apparently able to sign into Typepad, because they've got their personal avatars up. What are you guys doing that I'm not? I've cleared my cookies, but I've got so many other tabs open, they I don't want to lose them in by restarting either Chrome or my (Mac) computer. Do you suppose that what it's going to take?
I had only heard (just now) that Wasserman Schultz got one too, and I was wondering if I could say
"He's not totally crazy.
He's sending them to all the right people."
Not that I condone blowing people up--esp as it's likely to be their employees, not them.
Though it doesn't sound like these are functional bombs.
I don't know, JMH. I use Safari on a new iPad and it will very rarely log me out and generally lets me get back in easily. I haven't upgraded to the latest iOS if that's helpful, even though I can't use some apps until I do so.
OT: public radio has been running spots for a “conversation” with a certain Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr. coming next month on our local university campus. Anyone ever heard of this guy?😎
The “conversation” is being moderated by our recently retired BSU president and has some lofty title about “media” and “democracy” and some other bullshit...
The evacuation orders were lifted at 9:30 a.m. as police determined the packages contained children’s books, shoes, football and an empty bag of chips.

Notwithstanding the amount of time teens spend online, there is at least one positive trend (via Drudge):
Research earlier this summer suggested that young people are deserting Facebook. A survey from the reliable Pew Foundation found that the top website among kids aged between 13 and 17 is YouTube, which was used by 85% of the teens involved in the study. In second place was Instagram (72%) followed by Snapchat (79%). Just 51% of teens are on Facebook, suggesting young people are turning away from a social network which was once a pivotal part of adolescent life.
‘The social media environment among teens is quite different from what it was just three years ago,’ said research associate Monica Anderson, lead author of the report. Today, their habits revolve less around a single platform. How often do you use Facebook? At the same time we’ve seen this shift, teens are more digitally connected than ever – nearly all teens have access to a smartphone, and more than four-in-ten say they are online on a near-constant basis.’
My 1:31 was Cuomo's response to a question he was asked about why NY was losing population:)
JMH,
Even spending an hour and half downloading Mojave upgrade, my Typepad avatar came right up when I went to JOM. I did clear history, and my Chrome and Safari caches, then empty the trash, and restart.
I couldn't get in after Captain's lottery comment, and have been trying off and on all day!
There are too many odd things about these packages, including the fact that they all showed up on the same day even though they were destined for NYC, DC, and Florida.
Let me tell you as someone who used to do shipping, that level of coordination is impossible with postal deliveries. I think they should be looking to see if they were hand delivered.
I also find it suspicious that all,of the dem loudmouths have very similar talking points in their reaction comments.
Dem Operative: 'How are we polling on the caravan?'
Pollster: 'Way underwater.'
DemOp: 'Hey Billy, what was Plan B?'
Billy: 'A rash of fake pipe bombs?'
DemOp: 'That's the ticket!'
Good afternoon! I couldn't access JOM either,so I went shopping. There is an enclosed farmer's market here that sells Amish meat and cheese and usually has a good selection of fresh fish. The place is always crazy busy. Did I mention the home made bread, cookies and pies? I got hubby molasses cookies and told him I ate only one driving home. :)
"Really high lottery payouts make people on "conservative" blogs look like a bunch of welfare deadbeats by fantasizing on what they'd do with free money from the state. The lottery is a very pernicious tool of the state that subsidizes and promotes envy."
All true, as is the scam that the proceeds are for "educating the children" because libs and dumb people (I repeat myself) don't even know what "fungible" means.
To me, the overwhelming good thing about the Lottery is that because people who can afford it the least play it the most, the lottery is actually the most regressive tax imaginable.
Yes, I too could not access JOM so then I went to my desk. Read my email. Email #1: "Mr. Landlord, my toilet is leaking, can you fix it please? Please hurry." Email #2: "Mr. Landlord, when I came to my Pizza Shop this morning I see that a bandit broke through my glass door to rob my safe. Can you fix my door right now please? And BTW, my rent check was in the safe they stole. So sorry."
So then I refreshed my mail and found that AOL mail is down yet again. In the past when that frustrated me, I asked here at JOM for email migration advice.
This time, never mind. I like not getting my email.
CLARIFICATION: At this time the Secret Service has intercepted TWO suspicious packages - one in NY and one in D.C. Reports of a third intercepted package addressed to the WH are incorrect. We refer media to our statement: https://bit.ly/2R8jYYn
disney network insisting the package recipients all have one thing in common, they have been victims of trump's harsh verbal attacks and now look what those words have caused.
So he must temper his rhetoric so people will stop sending wile e coyote level's of bombs seeking attention.
Beasts, my automatic response is always "Read your Lease, Section IX, Page 11."
(After a lifetime of being a Landlord, I have finally evolved the boilerplate in my leases to equate to "Landlord's only responsibility is to cash the rent checks of Tenant...")
Since we're bringing up Captain Hate's welfare queens again, I'll repeat my observation that welfare deadbeats would be fantasizing about how to make the winner share his loot.
Doesn't Bill Ayers have anything better to do than use his old bag of tricks to try to make conservatives look like the crazies?

The old saw about "what army will the SC use to enforce its rulings" needs to be updated:
How will the SC enforce its rulings when lower courts ignore them?

I'm not impressed with Fox News' list of potential October surprises: 5 things that could rock the midterms.

JMH,it IS funny.

Well, finally!

This is what Cap'n said about the Lottery:
"Really high lottery payouts make people on "conservative" blogs look like a bunch of welfare deadbeats by fantasizing on what they'd do with free money from the state. The lottery is a very pernicious tool of the state that subsidizes and promotes envy."
All true, as is the scam that the proceeds are for "educating the children" because libs and dumb people (I repeat myself) don't even know what "fungible" means.
To me, the overwhelming good thing about the Lottery is that because people who can afford it the least play it the most, the lottery is actually the most regressive tax imaginable.
What's not to like about that?
...ducking.
