Now polling suggests Dems will gain House seats, Reps will gain Senate seats.
Stark political divide points to a split decision in midterm elections
By Paul Kane The Washington Post Oct 13, 2018
WASHINGTON — The divide in American politics is so stark that analysts are beginning to predict something that seldom happens: One party could make big gains in the House while the other adds seats in the Senate.
Not since 1970 has a midterm election provided such a split verdict, and only two other presidential elections, in 1996 and 1972, have demonstrated such division in congressional elections.
Now, particularly after the contentious Senate confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Democratic energy is up in the suburban districts that will determine the House majority — just as Republicans claim conservative voters have been jolted awake in rural states that will determine the Senate majority.
That later link was from jack engelhardt the Hollywood screen writer.

I'm about 1/3 through "Chappaquidick"-I've been distracted by tedious baseball. I am intrigued--it does seem to move pretty slowly and I wonder how much of the recreation is speculation and how much is based on actual witness accounts. The acting is good and I'm surprised that some real B-list types would put their necks out. Also makes me miss the old Cape a little.
Also Jane--Don't give away how it ends!! ;^)

Hillary might be bi-polar but her behavior is a lot more consistent with a personality disorder like narcissism, though they often overlap and she has plenty of borderline traits as well.
Narcissists and sociopaths are very near cousins if not simply slightly different spots on the same spectrum.
She's entitled, parasitic, pathologically dishonest, grandiose, utterly lacks empathy and pretty much the rest of the nine traits of the narcissist.

maryrose:
Thanks. I wasn't challenging your opinion on that, I had just never thought of bi-polar in connection with Hillary. I also wasn't aware that paranoia was associated with bi-polar often enough to make the list of possible symptoms (which I looked up after reading your explanation). For any thoughtful voter her plaint that, "They were never going to let me be President" should be a presidential disqualifier on its face.
Maybe we should draw up a symptom list for Hillary Dichotomous Disorder (starting with alternating fits of Hillaria and Hilligulation), along with Hillary Co-dependency, a nervous disorder exclusive to misguided feminists.

"What this says is Trump is getting better at being president and better at using his brand as a weapon in Washington. I’ve said since the beginning that Trump is a very rare guy, who instinctively knows how others view him. He uses your perception of him as part of the sales pitch. It’s why many people find his boasting to be so amusing. When he does it, his supporters feel like they are in on the joke. They get that he knows it is boast and that it irritates the Left. He turns what his critics call a character flaw into an asset."
This.

Almost all the movies I go to nowadays are ones that I want to support...so I make myself go.
I've got a lousy attention span.
I've even bought tickets & NOT gone to some...
But Gosnell is good.
I'm so thankful to all the people involved. There was a real struggle to get it distributed (? not sure of the terminology)
Andrew Klavan was a screenwriter for it.
"I don’t imagine that there’s anybody that’s in favor of what Dr. Gosnell did."
“What we tried to do with the movie is make something that both sides of the issue could see and benefit from." - Director Nick Searcy

Another Bob:
Interesting article at the Z Blog. The description of Trumps' "leveraging" modus operandi makes sense, but I was particularly stuck by the idea that Trump is now making the Republican party his own, and idea that has also begun to break the surface elsewhere.
Beyond the unifying effect of his staunch support of Kavanaugh, one of the most obvious ways he is doing this has nothing to do declassifying FISA docs or shaking up Mueller and the DoJ or all the other things we've been impatiently awaiting here. It seems to me that he has decided that hanging onto Congress is his number 1 political job right now, a priority which is clearly reflected in the utterly unprecedented amount of campaigning he has undertaken for the mid-term elections. Have we ever seen anything like it? Obama spent an inordinate amount of time raising money, but I don't remember him turning out the base for folks other than himself much. GWB spent less time at it, but his appearances on the trail were largely focused on fund raisers and fund raising too. That's not what Trump is doing out there, and if by some miracle we keep the House, I think we, and the Republican party will owe it to Trump.

'O'Rourke put [Joe] Kennedy [III] behind the wheel Saturday after he and his wife, Amy, went to pick up Kennedy and his wife, Lauren, at the Corpus Christi airport — an implicit rebuttal to a dig Cruz had taken the day before.
"By the way," Cruz "joked" while stumping in Houston, "he had Joe Kennedy down here campaigning with him. And Joe Kennedy was driving him around. I have to admit, it may be the first time in history anyone's ever asked a Kennedy to drive."
This is hilarious, and Beto and the Dems are all snitty about it. Ted seems to have gotten over being hurt about Trump and has learned a thing or two.

Excellent point. I'm also struck by the "two front" struggle.
PDJT has to fight the Dem/media/celebs/professoriate/bureaucracy complex of course.
But he also has to redesign the Repub Party In opposition to GOPe while keeping the Congress moving forward.
In this midterm he may have pulled it off, at least the heavy lifting. I thought it would be a MUCH more painful transition.

Just read Hugh Hewitt's interview with John Bolton on the previous thread and I wondered if there was a single thing that Bolton could point to that he thought was a sensible or positive Foreign Policy move made by the Obama Administration. So it’s perfectly reasonable to ask if we should abolish the Supreme Court, or at the very least strip the Court of its ability to overturn laws that it rules unconstitutional. If the Court is no longer a neutral arbiter of the law, if it’s gradually shape-shifting into a partisan weapon, then maybe it’s time to rethink its role in our constitutional system.
