I actually think it would be great for the Democrats if Hillarity runs in 2020. First, as she sucked up all the oxygen the other contenders and pretenders would turn blue, which might be a good look for messaging purposes.
More importantly, whoever knocked her off would establish a bit of credibility as a giant-killer, even though "excorcist" would be more appropriate.

PowerBall is up to 470 I think...
Rule of thumb... buy one ticket never more... the first ticket gets you in the game at 1:300000000
each subsequent ticket only increases your odds to 2:3000000000 3:3000000000... etc. Not worth it.

66 Colorized Photos of Life in Russia Between 1900-1965
I started seeking out colorized historical photos, when I realized, I actually conceived of my grandmother's world, and basically the first half of the 20th century, in black and white. A Calvin and Hobbes cartoon explains (follow the link for the whole thing):
Non-YouTubed Photos of Colorized Samourais (although I'd call these tinted, not colorized), and another series focusing more on Courtesans. I always thought of Samourai being as being big burly fellows. Not so, at all, apparently, if these artchers are anything to go by.

A lot of the time, however, well down b/w photos & sepias are more effective than badly done tinted pix, like some of the samourais in the link above. Zangaki brothers photos from Egypt, c. 1870-90.
B/W is a tremendous medium for portraits. 39 Remarkable Native American Portraits. It would be interesting to see colorized versions of these if they were skillfully done, just to see which would ultimately prove more evocative.

JMH,
This very minute I am in the middle of downtown Osaka in the shopping district of Namba Station. Thousands of people jammed together walking thru these small clustered avenues with overhead awnings and music and Halloween styled robots advertising the wares from various shops and restaurants. Much fun. I am at a small open to the street kiosk sitting on a rustic wooden bench eating octopus balls and listening to the deafening cheery peal of the Pachinko Gallery next door. Cool to see the colorful pics of skinny Samurai boys from the 1800's. Definitely better nutrition over here nowadays, and rare to see the bent over rickets riven old ladies from WW2 days any more, but still all in all far from an obese society. Such a shame virtually all the pre-War structures went up in flames during the bombing. Its a huge antiseptic city of supermodern skyscrapers, looking like you'd imagine a city of Superman's home world of Krypton might look like, except gaudy and loud. Off in a minute for boiled Japanese Pig Knuckles at a favorite old spot where nobody speaks a word of English but over the years they have deigned to allow me to become their token gaijin 'regular.' Wish you was here⛩

can't believe i'd type this as a comment, but if you are interested in Marilyn Manson the best point of departure is Mechanical Animals. The whole album is good to great from beginning to end. It is the masterpiece of his triptych (Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Holy Wood). Think of it as the Empire Strikes Back or the Dark Knight ... with a more industrial, aggressive edge.

If you not enthused about fiction, there's an excellent Urban History of Japan's Premodern Capital which discusses (and illustrates) the fascinating history, both structural and cultural of Kyoto. They make excellent companion volumes too, of course. The Urban History is both scholarly and very readable, which can be an unusual combination. i do that often JMH in conscious honor of Mark Twain, who knew how to say it proper, but who was a genius at saying it wrong but somehow conveyng the point across better---what a genius of the lingo he was. He knew how to do that trick without overdoing it, which is I thnk the secret.
Minor point made many times, but all this time I have been watching an elder Janaese gal and her son at a table, very carefully slicing a huge slap of beef into the proper size and consistency for this Yakitori joint I am at. The trait of "Attention to Detail" by the Japanese is marvelous to see. Such pride in their work regardless of the work, unlike for instance the Chinese who just don't as a rule have that work ethic. It is amazing how often in China a problem will occur with the plane that could use fixing but the Chinese come up with some excuse why they don't have the time etc to deal with the problem, whereas the instant you land in Tokyo or Osaka, it is like a scene from a 1950's movie in the US of pulling into a filling station and all the uniformed guys come running around the car to check under the hood and put air in the tires and all the rest. They love jumping on a problem and fixing it, ergo my comment about the old lady and her son displaying such attention to detail in dutifully cutting up this huge slab of beef on the table next to me and it being marvelous to watch.

There is some speculation about what President-elect Obama’s howdy factor will be. They don’t call it that, but that’s what it’s known as in some screenwriting circles. (I’m not sure who I learned this from, but when I remember I’ll give them credit.)
The howdy factor (or howdy trait) is the thing that every President has to have to seem more down to earth. (Maybe for Obama we should call it The Aloha Factor.)
John F. Kennedy; Pick-up football games on the White House lawn
Richard Nixon; Bowling
Gerald Ford; Skiing and golfing
Jimmy Carter; Softball
Ronald Reagan; Cowboy
George Bush Sr; Fishing
Bill Clinton; Jogging
George W. Bush; Mountain biking & kid’s baseball games on the White House lawn
Now Obama is already a pretty cool cat, but he still needs a howdy factor. And while he does play golf, I think he’s going to be the first President with a penchant for basketball. That’s part of his regular workout these days so as long as his knees and legs hold out I think that’s what he’ll be about.
George Clooney said that he liked the character he played on E.R. when he read the first script. Though his character was flawed, at one point he saves a dog and knew that he was a complex character that people would embrace.
Blake Snyder would call that a “Save the Cat” moment. A little trick of the trade that sometimes up pops in films where a character does something — like saving a cat (or a dog in Clooney’s case) — that makes him or her more likable. Once you become aware of these howdy traits you see them everywhere. (Blake and his readers have been known to yell out “Save the Cat” when they see it occur at the theaters.)
https://screenwritingfromiowa.wordpress.com/tag/what-does-save-the-cat-mean/
Posted by: Pinandpuller | October 20, 2018 at 03:29 AM
What was Trump's Save the Cat moment?
So, what does it mean to “save the cat” and why is that an important moment to include in your script?
A “save the cat” is a moment, very early on in the story, where we meet or see our hero do something nice that makes us like him and say, “I want to follow this person’s story.” It’s important to have it because you want your audience to be sympathetic or empathetic towards your protagonist. We have to like the hero and believe there is some redeemable quality in him/her that will allow us to invest ourselves in his/her story for the next 90 pages at least.
But, as I always tell writers, when coming up with a “save the cat” moment in their scripts don’t simply have your hero pass by a homeless person and drop a dollar in his cup or hat – and I’ve seen that a lot – instead create a “save the cat” moment that comes from a situation your hero naturally belongs to, encounters or does as they go about their daily life, work or routine. It makes the moment more real and believable and has a greater effect on the audience because we see the hero as the best person they can be within the world you’ve created for him/her.

Nope. Not even close:
As an international rugby star and underwear model, Ashley’s life couldn’t be any better. He is about to kick the ball, which will win the match and secure him a world record. He has plans to ask his actress girlfriend to marry him. Everything is going exactly how he wants it. That is until a streaker grabs his ball and runs with it. Ashley's estranged mother has other plans for him. She owns a pawnbroker in Greenwich, London, and over the years became a matriarch to a foursome of deeply troubled guerrilla marketers. She has devoted herself to repairing these damaged people from different backgrounds. Ashley blasts after the streaker and in some bent up rage unleashes an overzealous beating, hospitalising him, and becoming public enemy number one in the media. His girlfriend dumps him, his fans abandon him, and his team suspends him. Emotionally distraught and guilt-ridden over crippling the streaker, he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle. He soon finds himself standing in the hospital aiming a gun at the streaker and looking for answers. He passes out and wakes up in the streaker's strange home, hidden away from the paparazzi. He agrees to stay in the house and help the streaker recover in a daily routine of physiotherapy. Eventually, after strong resistance, he becomes embroiled in the day-to-day lives of these crazy characters and starts to help them with their outrageous stunts.

Thanks for The Bravery. They look very dynamic and retro. I need something to stand in the gap of world savior douches U2.

IDK I might check this Mark Shearman bloke out:
Flip Flop Flamenco follows the story of a man who chases his past to a drowsy Spanish fishing village. Danny's search for the truth ends in a raucous gun battle between thirty ships, while the majority of the pueblo remains positioned on the beach, defending an ancient tradition. In the fray, a bunch of dysfunctional expats fight to keep their dreams of living in the sun alive. This enigmatic novel oozes glimpses of no-bull-truth, revealing the naked underbelly of being an expat living on the Costa Blanca. This raw novel stirs up a paella of murderous gangsters, eccentric Indian bar owners, a sociopathic hotel owner and a quirky xenophobic cop. The brutal murder of a young English woman - turned prostitute, forbidden love, a donkey named Pedro, and out of work sixty-something-gossipmongers ensconced in the local bar - paint a colourful, ragtag, group of characters. If you're not cringing, you're laughing and wondering, what the hell next?
