A day in Chicago with the most famous local lurker…

In communications prior to our visit CTL recommended the Chicago Architecture Center boat tour along the river. It was a beautiful though brisk day and very worthwhile. The most famous architects in the world are well represented.

Such fun to go into the restaurant and saying, we’re meeting “CTL”. Obviously known by all the staff. Great waitress who adored our host…surely had known him since he was a youngster. Drinks? Sure. I will have a Bloody Mary. ENR, who never has more than one drink in a day, ordered one as well. When they arrived CTL explained that he should have warned us. It came in a short glass, clear vodka down to the bottom quarter inch that was vaguely pink, the required thimble full of tomato juice. No salad. No olives. No pickle. Daddy, they held the celery without being asked. It was in the financial district and it was the perfect drink for when the Dow was falling 1000 points. We had a drop in visit at lunch from Rick Santelli. CTL has a certain star quality himself!

After lunch we had a walking tour led by our most knowledgeable guide into the lobbies of nearby famous buildings. My favorite had the custom gentleman’s hat maker and shoemaker that looked like they could do repairs or start from scratch. I'm a little slow on the uptake at times, especially when it comes to what liberals are thinking, but I really don't understand this caravan thing.

A horde of 10,000 to 50,000 people heading for our southern border demanding to be let in? Where does this generate any sympathy in the American voter? They are not refugees fleeing a war. They have two or three countries and thousands of miles within which to stop in safety. Why can't Mexico, a country of 130 million people and lots of square miles, provide asylum for them, if that is indeed what they seek? If they are fleeing because gangs make their lives unsafe, how is joining a mob of thousands of poor, hungry, horny, desperate young men safer? If the hurricane hits them, and causes the sort of humanitarian disaster which hurricanes generally do when they confront masses of people without shelter, how can this even be spun as in any way shape or form the fault of Trump, who told them to go back?

And having them show up, or threaten to show up, within two weeks of the election? How about reminding each and every potential non-voting Republican who was incensed by the Kavanaugh circus that it is really, really important that they get out and vote.

If you really don't like America, you get a charge out of the idea that a veritable army of invaders is heading for the border and will create a crisis which will be bad for America;s image and for Trump (obviously you haven't been paying close attention to the guy, but whatever...). But if you still love your country, even if you don't like Trump, what good comes from this?

This was obviously someone's idea--it ain't spontaneous. I just don't see how anyone thought it could be a political winner for the left.
