In other news, today in Georgia an 8th-grade middle school student stabbed his teacher in the chest with a butcher knife.

https://www.11alive.com/article/news/local/police-student-stabs-teacher-with-butcher-knife-at-georgia-middle-school/85-606811322

Bernardi Dr la paz

So sorry to hear that.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

"Counselors will be at the school Tuesday and the student will not be allowed back on campus."

There's some of that rule of law, OL, is looking for.
Stab a teacher with an 8" butcher knife, no PE for you.

“Why didn't they fill those balcony seats? He would have another 1K or more.”

JIB, finally saw a photo that answered that conclusively - those empties were associated with the leased private boxes.

More of Gelernter from the WSJ:

Those who voted for Mr. Trump, and will vote for his candidates this November, worry about the nation, not its image. The president deserves our respect because Americans deserve it—not such fancy-pants extras as network commentators, socialist high-school teachers and eminent professors, but the basic human stuff that has made America great, and is making us greater all the time.

That seems pretty spot on.

Momto2

One parent, Emily Woods, told 11Alive this is scary, but she doesn't have any reservations about her child going back to school Tuesday.

"This is an awesome school," she said. "This is an awesome school, so it was shocking to find out this happened here. But this is a great school and I think my kids still feel safe here. It was just an unfortunate situation.”

Understatement of the week : A middle schooler stabs a teacher in the chest with a butcher knife = unfortunate.

"Just because the "migrants" aren't heavily armed or wearing uniforms doesn't change the fact that they're an invading army."

That became crystal clear to me in a deeply felt way when I saw the photo of them burning the American flag. WTF? That's an enemy provocation (it is simply not the same thing when a US citizen does it for whatever purposes, IMO). How crazed do you have to be to burn a symbolic image of the country you're trying to get into? They are not applying for entry, they are demanding it. Their actions at the Guatemala border also make it clear that if we do not let them in, they intend to enter the U.S. by either stealth or force. How does all that not add up to an invasion?

JM Hanes

Ha! Great work, Dave.

How crazed do you have to be to burn a symbolic image of the country you're trying to get into?

It makes them seem more like Soros-paid activists than "migrants" of any sort. It's all for show.

That middle school is about 4 miles from me. :(

Lilburn is going very rental home heavy with illegals and a lot of immigrants and such moving in to the now rental homes and new apartments in what used to be middle class homes that are now very run down.

"t makes them seem more like Soros-paid activists than "migrants" of any sort."

Ditto for the organizer's emphasis, in the article I linked on the previous thread, when he described the migrant contingent of women, children and "20 youths who identify as LGBT." That was was so pathetically scripted for/by progressive pols.

 joan

Just curious, maryrose, how do you think the illegals from Central America in the migrant march are going to be stopped? Did you hear something serious and substantial this evening (I was out, joined a local singing group) about location of caravan? I keep reading the number is up from the approx. 5,000 that started to 50,000 and on to 100,000 (think this group is supposed to be 50% Mexican.) Anyway, how do you think the U.S. is going to stop it? Have you heard anything from your political contacts in your state ?

Also, I'm curious, I read last week that Mattis is quitting. I wonder if he'll be all in on using military on border?

JM Hanes

I was checking out news from the art world today, most of which confirmed my feeling the largest share of contemporary art is pretty worthless, unexciting stuff. I tossed in the towel, when I arrived at this piece in an exhibition at the Phoenix Museum. Why would anybody bother to make it, and why would anybody else care?

Phoenix - Teotihuacan photo Phoenix - Teotihuacan_zps6htn90ss.jpg

It turns out to be one of the newly discovered artifacts from Teotihuacan:

This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to experience both previously and recently excavated objects drawn from major collections in Mexico, many of which are on view in the United States for the first time and include mural fragments, religious offerings, reliefs, and more. A contemporary of ancient Rome, which reached its height in 400 CE, the ancient metropolis of Teotihuacan is one of the largest and most important archaeological sites in the world and the most-visited archaeological site in Mexico. On view in the United States for its final run at Phoenix Art Museum, Teotihuacan: City of Water, City of Fire is a dynamic exploration of Teotihuacan as an urban environment, shedding new light on the striking parallels between urban life in the ancient Americas and life in contemporary cities.
There''s a moral in here somewhere.

Announced on local radio this evening: police stopped a car traveling 75 mph in a 35 mph zone (main highway that goes through a small town north of us about five miles, and speed limit goes down for that short stretch.) The men in the car were Honduran and Mexican. Were arrested for speeding, plus gun charges. They were traveling north. This is about less than 15 miles from southern Kansas border.

One of the local pharmacists told us she served on a jury in Tulsa, drug cases, and it is a major staging area for importing drugs from Mexico and South America. It's a wonder more people aren't killed as those bad guys speed along all of our highways.

I've listened to the Schumann a couple of times now, trying, without success, to find it difficult! Perhaps it's because I don't play myself, and because I have less sophisticated expectations as to where the music should or would normally be going. I thought the 4th movement, in particular, was exquisite, and I definitely think Schiff has a better feel for the music throughout. Sometimes Uchida seems a bit tentative (most noticeably in the 2nd movement), don't you think?

Did you see my questions about the Rachmaninoff last night? If not, I can go back and find the post.

The government has argued Furman improperly allowed discovery beyond the administrative record to “probe the Secretary’s mental processes.”

I like the direction of that ruling, and on where the various judges seem to be coming down. The sooner we can take attacking executive branch motives, instead of actions, out of the equation, the better. It's a really slippery piece of ground. I'm also with Gorsuch when he says:

“When it comes to the likelihood of success, there’s no reason to distinguish between Secretary Ross’s deposition and those of other senior executive officials: each stems from the same doubtful bad faith ruling, and each seeks to explore his motives.”
I was surprised to hear that RBG "had originally agreed to put all of the rulings on hold." Sometimes I have to remind myself, that justices often actually agree with each other. We just tend to hear the most about the divisive cases.

jim nj

JM Hanes,

The Supremes aren't finished with this just yet. As I understood the story the Interior Secretary doesn't have to testify, but a junior officer of the agency is still in limbo. The court requested further argument from Justice on that, but implied that if the Secretary was immune the junior officer wouldn't know more than the Secretary, so why bother.

I think they will, with proper argument, agree that the junior officer is off the hook too.

What I'm encouraged about is blocking the lower court's rulings that they can compel, or even justify, this process of examining government officials about what they were thinking about.

What difference does it make if they are acting lawfully within their powers? This issue only arose with the election of Trump.

Were I a Justice I don't see how I could support an intrusion into private thought processes.

And the fools pushing this argument don't realize that if you now can do this, we also get to revisit every Obama policy in the same manner.

I expect the Supremes, in the future, to smack down even more lower court rulings that apply nationwide, not just district wide, or taking up, or considering arguments that interfere with the normal course of government. All too many of the lower court rulings are political, not judicial.

Most of that money is believed to have avoided Chinese cash export controls.

It really makes me wonder how much wealth has been smuggled out of China. Whatever the amount, and I think it's probably a huge number, it's no longer available for investment in China.

According to research done by Glenn Beck and his team, the paper trail from Pueblo Sin Fronteras leads back to a group called CARA Family Detention Pro Bono Project. CARA encompass two legal groups, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. and the American Immigration Council. Guess who’s funding them? … none other than radical leftist billionaire: George Soros.

Soros has given over half a million to support illegal immigration in the past. However, since the immigration debate heated up in 2015, Soros has stepped up his game. In 2015, Soros through ‘Open Society’ gave the Catholic Legal Immigration Network $970,000 and over that same year, the American Immigration Council $350,000.

Hillary Clinton’s legacy at the State Department lives on – and it isn’t pretty. Take a gander at the spectacle of slave auctions in Libya – a nation “liberated” by NATO at Hillary’s instigation: remember “We came, we saw, he died”? Behold the blood-soaked ruins of Syria, where her regime-change plans caused the US to fund the very jihadists we’re supposed to be fighting. Add to this the not-so-bright idea of Washington jumping on board the abortive “Arab Spring” bandwagon, and it all this adds up to the worst record of any Secretary of State in modern history.

Less well-known than the above-mentioned disasters, however, is the key role she played in turning Honduras over to a murderous dictator who is now provoking yet another crisis in that long-suffering country – and sending thousands of refugees, including many unaccompanied minors, into Mexico and over our southern border.

Apropos of nothing....my 7th grader attends a progressive alternative MS/HS in our college town. It’s supposed to be racially and economically diverse, but because it relies on parents and students filling out an application for the admission lottery, it’s what you imagine. Lots of overeducated parents, with a smattering of kids from tough backgrounds.

Two weeks ago an incident occurred which was interpreted by school leadership as a racial incident. They held an emergency all school meeting for half of the school day to discuss race and privilege that was run by the Students of Color Committee. My daughter’s takeaway after this “woke” discussion? “If we wanted to have a committee of white only students we would get in all kinds of trouble.”

I think they are losing the kids.

Hmmm, MSM with a "Trump may make manufacturing work in America Again" story.

China's costs went up, and they are IP thieves... plus we don't really need unskilled workers anyway

Robots have advanced so far that they can do the work of Chinese workers. Foxconn’s FXCOF announcement in August 2011 that it would replace a million workers with robots at its Chinese factories never came to fruition, because the robots of that era were not capable of doing fine tasks such as circuit-board assembly and could not work safely alongside human workers. Today, industrial robots can thread a needle and work hand-in-hand with humans. They can do practically every assembly job as well as packing the boxes the goods are shipped in.

Top US Economist Confirms Obama Did Have an Effect on This Economy: “It’s the Effect that Barack Obama is No Longer President of the United States!”

Starting on Monday for the first time in a year and a half, even CNN is acknowledging that we are in a boom. Even they, it’s undeniable, right?

So even they are acknowledging a boom but now they have to explain why it is, the same people who said that Donald Trump was going to cause the second Great Depression if he was elected, has created the strongest economy, as Rose said, in 40 years and they don’t have a very good explanation for that. So their clawback position is what Barack Obama said on Friday, which is that this is my economy, its not Trump’s. And by the way, Obama is the first one who said that Trump was going to crash the economy.

So Poppy says to me, “Steve, do you think there is an Obama effect here?”

And I said, “Absolutely Poppy, there is an Obama effect here. It’s the effect that Barack Obama is no longer President of the United States. That’s why we have a boom!”

Nancy Pelosi Admits Democrats Will Use Subpoena Power as Negotiating Tool if They Retake the House (VIDEO)

“Subpoena power is interesting, to use it or not to use it. It’s a great arrow to have in your quiver in terms of negotiating on other subjects,” Pelosi said to CNN’s Dana Bash on Monday.

If the Dems do retake the House, then President Trump should instruct all his Executive Branch agencies to respond to any subpoenas exactly as Obama and HIS agencies did (to cheers from the Democrats in Congress and the MSM):

Slow-walk responses, claim absurdly broad executive privilege, withhold witnesses due to "national security" concerns (or for no reason at all), or simply ignore them entirely.

If it was OK for the Democrats to do all that, then it must be OK for President Trump and his subordinates to do it, too. Right?
