Jack is Back!

pagar, is Trump's speech writer.

Extraneus

He's afraid that Kentucky is winning too much.

"McConnell and Rand will come to the oval office to say, Mr. President, we can't take all this winning."

Heh

Kevlar Kid

Is Hillary's liver the size of a canoe yet?

Captain Hate

henry, I hope you can find it because Ahia was almost a month after the rest of the world getting it because one of Katshit's apparatchiks didn't get his pocket greased enough and rejected the labels.

Not bad, Cha.

Kevlar Kid

These rallies are a lot of fun.

I never saw any appearance by The Bath House Rat which gave any semblance of being fun.

He had those appearances where he was in shirtsleeves talking in what was supposed to be a folky, suthin accent or something. And the 40 seals in attendance would start to yammer and he'd say "Hold on now...." and then he'd condescend to the opposition he was mischaracterizing.

Pizza chip.

Pinandpuller

Kev

My dad saw an elaborately painted tailgate in Phoenix that said,"Jello Chebby Peekup." Indeed it was.

Actually, my grandpa had a Bronco with some crazy murals painted on it and Mexicans used to come up and make offers all of the time.

henry

CH, the beer store in Wind Lake will have it... Or else I run to Pewaukee at lunchtime Monday. Lots of good beer stores in WI.

Kevlar Kid

Paul Ryan couldn't take all the winning and bailed. Just when the gettin was good too.

Kevlar Kid

no mistakin that Chebby for a Chort.

henry

Kev, His former aide is who I'm stuck voting for... Steil, a total weasel.

Kevlar Kid

Oregano beat Washington. Wash will drop out of the Top 10.

West Va at #6 needs to beat Iowa State or else they're out too.

Kevlar Kid

what're you doin for him, henry?

Extraneus

They have to kill this guy. I guarantee there are a lot of people thinking about how to do it.

GUS

Ho Don now!! Uh uh uh uh their going to tell you that that we don't have uh errr uh uh uh hope.
Uh uh uh uh uh uh, I am the UH UH UH PEOPLE you've been uh uh uh uh wait INN for. Uh uh Okie Doke.

Extraneus

Taking credit for opening the embassy in Jerusalem.

Kev

You need to write for TV. You have all the best alternate cuss words.

Captain Hate

henry, it is very sweet. I had complained that I couldn't taste the maple in their CBS but that is not the case here. I'll age the remaining three to hopefully get it more balanced.

my GGGG (I think it was 4) grandmother was Stonewall Jackson's aunt.
My GGG aunt was his second MIL. Three of her daughters married CSA generals. Her plantation is under Lake Norman north of Charlotte.

henry

For Steil? Nada. He'll beat Iron Stashe. Walker and Vukmir are my focus this time.

Extraneus

Wow, what he's saying right now is powerful.

Thanks CH. Sweet is not my favorite thing... on my home brews another month at room temp fixes that.

Reminds me a bit of the Roman General Fabius Maximus from Livy's accounts of the Wars against Hannibal. His brilliant insight was that he recognized that he personally was not a good enough General to defeat Hannibal, but he realized that he could ultimately defeat Hannibal by holding the high ground and outlasting Hannibal in a war of attrition. He was voted out of control of the Army by the hot-heads, who then went after Hannibal at the great Battle of Cannae where the Roman's lost 80,000 troops in an unbelievable defeat and only just escaped losing the city by Hannibal's resting his exhausted troops and not marching immediately to take Rome and win the War.

Fabius came back into power, continued his war of attrition and Rome eventually produced a General who was a great enough general to take on Hannibal and Defeat him---Scipio Africanus.

I believe Fabius Maximus won the honorific "Father of His Country" for his ability as a farsighted General in keeping Rome from losing the War. I think my memory is dependably accurate on what I've mentioned above, and probably every General in the Civil War who was a grad of West Point would have known the lesson of Fabius Maximus from their military studies, even if nobody in the mainstream media knows a single clue about any of it.

Time to make another recommendation to read Grant's Memoir's if you haven't already. A great read.

Pinandpuller

This guy uses an interesting term for The Civil War: Autogenocide. He compares Lincoln to Pol Pot.

https://youtu.be/Dn_UM9ZcOV4

Kevlar Kid

Which version, daddy--- the complete annotated or...civil war memoirs?

Pinandpuller

Whoa, Lincoln was the original Illinois Bathhouse Rat? Interesting if true. All we need is an allegation.

It all fits now. Lincoln was a congressman who liked to wrestle.

Is really funny! But it reminds me that Trump has ears to the ground on issues discussed by the base. I don't get that from all Repub politicos but Trump knows what we're talking about.

Rocco

The Patriot might be my favorite movie. And Gibsons character reminds me of my favorite hero.

The call echoed around Acton and the minutemen rushed to Davis’s yard, where they made bullets and prepared for a battle that some, making jokes about finally ‘getting a hit at old [General Thomas] Gage,’ relished. Davis rebuked his men, reminding them that the day had brought ‘a most eventful crisis for the colonies. Blood would be spilt, that was certain; the crimson fountain would be opened; none could tell when it would close, nor with whose blood it would overflow. Let every man gird himself for battle and be not afraid, for God is on our side.’

As certain as Davis was about the righteousness of their cause, he was equally pessimistic about his own chances for survival. Several days before that fateful dawn, he and his wife had returned home from an excursion to discover that a large owl, a symbol of death, had flown into the house and perched on Davis’s favorite gun, which hung over the mantel. No one was allowed to disturb the brooding presence, which stayed for days and was interpreted by the captain as an omen that, if the struggle became a full-pitched battle, he would not survive.

He was the first officer killed in the Revolutionary War.

Hi, everybody--have been in St. Pete at a Victorian Studies conference AND visiting my folks and thus have missed a lot--so just caught up--

Prayers for DoT, first--

ManTran, I don't know about daddy, but I don't do the upraised pinkie thing no matter what I'm drinking!

I'm throwing George Henry Thomas in as the best Civil War general. I think he was the first 'modern' general in his understanding of the importance of railroads, the telegraph and logistics in general. He was literally high tech for his age. I'll admit he was a bit to methodical and thus not as fast as he coulda been. A bit like Monty in WWII.

jimmyk on iPhone

I’ve been reading Chernow’s bio of Grant. Not far enough in to judge it, but he does a bit too much 20-20 hindsight stuff, where he’ll say of some event from when he was in his teens or twenties, “From this he must have learned....” I don’t care for all that diagramming. Still enjoying it, though. The story of why he wrote those memoirs is quite poignant.

daddy

Kev,

Probably this one: Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S.Grant (Penguin Classics)

Momma years back had given me an old 2 volume set for Christmas of his memoirs
but they were too fragile and heavy to haul around in my book bag so I just opted for whatever paperback edition the Library had which I think was that penguin Classics one:

Mark Twain had this to say about them when they appeared: "The best [memoirs] of any general's since Caesar," but since Twain was instrumental in getting them published that comment tho' probably true, is a bit self serving.

Really the other way around, daddy. Twain got the publishing rights, and paid a lot, because he thought so highly of them. And Grant needed the money.

Captain Hate

Speaking of Lincoln, my book group is reading Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, (bardo is a Tibetan Buddhism term for a state of existence between death and afterlife, varying in duration according to the person's conduct in life and manner of, and age at, death; a Christian semi equivalent is purgatory) a fictional account of the death of Lincoln's young son Willy, who was apparently Abe's fave, of something which not even modern antibiotics would resolve quickly. Lincoln apparently would visit the mausoleum at night in grief and hug the deceased body. Most of the narrative occurs in the bardo among souls in transition and what Abe does causes a major disruption in what passes for business as usual; they can see him but can't interact with him.

It's a very unusual narrative (made up, in the "real world", of fictional excerpts from nonexistent books) that somehow works very effectively (one member of the group, who usually throws books that go through time shifts against the wall, is enjoying it). I haven't read enough to give it an unqualified recommendation but the author is very good at what he does.

henry

Prayers for DoT. A fine gentleman.

((Anyone remember?))

Lift more citizens from welfare to work
dependence to independence
& from poverty to prosperity

To continue this movement you need to vote Republican

for years you watched as your leaders apologized for America, now you have a President that is standing up for America

A vote for a Republican Congress is a vote for more jobs, more wealth, & more products made right here in the good ol' U.S.A..
It's a vote to respect our laws & respect the heroes of law enforcement....

A vote for Republicans is a vote to reject the Democrats politics of hatred, anger & division & to celebrate the greatness & the glory of being an American.

It is not up to the media, it is not up to the pundits, it's up to YOU to decide your own fate. You have the power with your vote to defend your families, defend your country, defend your values, your faith, & to defend your dignity.

Loyal citizens like you helped build this country & together we are taking back our county. Returning power to the American people.

At my Victorian conference people were saying seriously that Republicans caused Hurricane Michael. Gus,

I know your brother works for the Secret Service or some associated branch of state security, and maybe what I'd like to ask is completely classified which he can't tell you so I'll just address it this way: I assume DJT has had his own private security before and during his campaign and that there's some agreement between his own muscle and the state's to coordinate and maximize effectiveness. Trump has to be a marked man after Hodgkinson, Rand Paul and assorted Antifa type nutjobs. He is *the* biggest danger to the Swamp and those dickweeds won't go quietly. The security has to be a model of efficiency considering how many rallies he has.

Someone mentioned about the Bathhouse Rat forever meeting with his donors. The beauty of DJT is there are no donors and he doesn't owe anyone a fucking thing.
