At a rally in Ohio Trump talked up U.S. Grant, son of Ohio. Chaos ensued!
The CNN transcription:
Here's what Trump told the crowd in Ohio:
"It also gave you a general who was incredible. He drank a little bit too much. You know who I’m talking about right? So Robert E. Lee was a great general. And Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia. He couldn’t beat Robert E. Lee.
He was going crazy. I don’t know if you know this story. But Robert E. Lee was winning battle after battle after battle. And Abraham Lincoln came home, he said, 'I can’t beat Robert E. Lee.' And he had all of his generals, they looked great, they were the top of their class at West Point. They were the greatest people. There’s only one problem — they didn’t know how the hell to win. They didn’t know how to fight. They didn’t know how.
And one day, it was looking really bad. And Lincoln just said, 'You,' hardly knew his name. And they said, 'Don’t take him, he’s got a drinking problem.' And Lincoln said, 'I don’t care what problem he has. You guys aren’t winning.'
And his name was Grant. General Grant. And he went in and he knocked the hell out of everyone. And you know the story. They said to Lincoln, 'You can’t use him anymore, he’s an alcoholic.' And Lincoln said, 'I don’t care if he’s an alcoholic, frankly, give me six or seven more just like him.' He started to win. Grant really did — he had a serious problem, a serious drinking problem, but man was he a good general. And he’s finally being recognized as a great general.
But Lincoln had almost developed a phobia, because he was having a hard time with a true great fighter, a great general Robert E. Lee. But Grant figured it out. And Grant is a great general, and Grant came from right here."
Now, don't call it Fake News but on Twitter NBC News managed to distill that down to this:
WATCH: President Trump says "Robert E. Lee was a great general" during Ohio rally, calling the Confederate leader "incredible."
Trump called Grant incredible, but he could have said the same about this reporting.
The SPLC swooned because Gen. Lee fought for the slave-holding South:
Robert E. Lee was not a great general, President Trump. He waged a war to hold onto the legal institution of white supremacy.
Uh huh. Rommel was not a great general either since he fought for Hitler. Historians need to search their thesauri carefully.
Lots of cross-currents here.
Good night Wisconsin. Glad someone else can get throttled by Meeeechigan.

A salute to Danube, to his Father, and to his Grandfather, all of whom gave magnificent service to this Nation. And also a hat-tip to his distant relative who was an Officer on a Confederate Ship and wrote a book about it, and finally to another distant relative who IIRC was the hero of the Battle of Lake Champlain (@1814) in destroying British Ships.

CH, Keith Schiller was head of Trump’s personal security.
Schiller was kept on the payroll after the election and inauguration. I take that to mean Trump retained his personal security, at that time perhaps (rightly) not trusting USSS.
Later, Schiller left the WH which I took as meaning Trump now trusted (vetted?) the USSS detail.
Note that Trump never buttons his jackets. Been rumored that he carried a gun in NYC and may still.

She took her dog to UGa vet school so it's Red and Black for Steph.
The hell you say. The only decent advanced vet facility in these parts is UGA. Didna have much choice. Of course, many of the vet students get a degree from GaTech and transfer for their residencies or whatever vet docs are required to do. Matter of fact, last I checked more graduates of their vet school got their undergrad at Tech than at Georgia as the Georgia grads couldn't get in the door. :0
We were at Grace's birthday party today on the other side of town. 65 miles and it took 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there as the lovely DOT is repaving I-75 near the new Braves stadium and had 2 of 6 lanes open. Asses. Must be UGA graduates...

Sad to hear about Danube. Will add to our prayer list.
Glad y'all enjoyed the Halloween tale and love that y'all think I'm fully capable of doing the deed (devils are us), but it was a joke and not a true life story.
My MIL was a Church of Christ innocent, naive coal miner's daughter and would have NEVER had the Exorcist on her reading list... though she started emulating parts of it when her Alzheimer's got advanced. She was 180 degrees personality wise then... cussing and carrying on like a totally different person. Sad. That persona would have definitely qualified for the joke's treatment. :)

CH, I was also curious how that might work. USSS’s strategies are based on their ability to be the 800 lb. gorilla and take total control of a site, local authorities and other agencies be damned.
I imagine the head of the detail wouldn’t have reacted well to the concept of having some number of armed men - that he would not have reliable control over - rummaging around inside his perimeters and feeding info to his protectee.

A man goes to see the Rabbi and says, "Rabbi, something terrible is happening, and I have to talk to you about it."
The Rabbi asks him, "What's wrong?"
The man replies, "My wife is going to poison me."
The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How can that be?"
The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's going to poison me. What should I do?"
The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her. I'll see what I can find out, and I'll let you know."
A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says, "I spoke to your wife on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?"
The man says, "Yes."
The Rabbi replies, "Take the poison."

The waitress, not wanting to appear stupid, goes to the kitchen and asks the cook, "This guy out there just ordered three flat tires and a pair of headlights and pair of running boards. What does he think, this is an auto parts store?"
"No" the cook says, "three flat tires means three pancakes and a pair of headlights is two eggs sunny side up and running boards is 2 slices crisp bacon."
"Oh," says the waitress. She thinks about this for a while, and then she spoons up a bowl of beans and gives it to the customer.
The guy says, "What are the beans for?"
The waitress replies, "I thought while you were waiting for the flat tires, headlights and running boards, you might want to gas up."

Extraneous, how is the Android tablet with Yandex working out as a viable JOM platform? Do you have any recommendations for a particular economical Android device?
A couple months ago I bought a compact and inexpensive ($215) Dell Windoze 10 PC that does an okay job with 4 GB memory and 1366x768 display. The 32 GB SDD isn't large enough handle Windoze updates, so I will probably need to replace it. I will also probably upgrade to 8 GB memory. In addition, even a small PC isn't as convenient as my iPad mini when reading JOM in bed.
I appreciate any suggestions and your perspective.
I'm off now to deal with the leeks I harvested yesterday. Not sure exactly what to do with them after cutting off the tops and bottoms, and washing off the dirt. I would appreciate any recipe suggestions. I also read that you can make stock from the green tops. That sounds like a good idea but first I have to learn how.

Promoting degeneracy:
At a meeting held at First Christian Church, Bauman discussed a recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ruling in a case called Martin v. City of Boise, the court ruled that municipalities cannot criminalize life-sustaining activities such as sleeping, eating or resting in public places when there is no shelter space available or accessible.
The ruling applies to cities in Washington state, including Puyallup, where overnight shelter is available five months of the year.
Bauman, who works for the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, warned local cities against policies that restrict where homeless people can be on public property.

From 2014 to 2016, DeMeyer, while working as a personal assistant for the Solomon family, pilfered more than 500 bottles of rare wine from his boss’ vast collection, including seven precious bottles of Domaine de le Romanée-Conti, which Solomon purchased for $133,650, according to court papers.
DeMeyer sold them to a North Carolina-based wine broker, Ryan Chaland, whom he found online. By November 2016, Solomon had been alerted that his vintage assets were on the market.

Homeless people have phones Mr Lawyer:
A toddler was severely burned by scalding hot water at a Queens Applebee’s — and the family plans to sue because they claim employees waited 20 minutes to call for help.
The tot, Cadien Scott Gaffney, was at the restaurant on Rockaway Boulevard in Rosedale with family on Oct. 5, when he grabbed and spilled a cup of piping hot water, which the family had requested to sterilize utensils, a family spokeswoman told The Post.
Employees did not call 911 for over 20 minutes, the family’s attorney is now claiming.

PIN,
The homeless have rights just like every other citizen.
Many years ago they would have heeded Horace Greeley's advice, "Go west young man." Apparently they still do. Just like every other citizen who couldn't adapt to city life.
So if California is flooded with the homeless, the homeless have made a rational choice. Better weather, better benefits.

Jim nj,
No one knows very much about the Kashoggi thing, but as Clarice points out the "noble crusading Saudi reformer and reporter" tale has a lot of dubious people promoting it, with an obvious effort to split us from the Saudis.
Huge red flag to me when I saw Brennan pushing that line on Twitter.

MM,
I always like to read John Bolton unfiltered.
He doesn't pull punches.
This Kashhoggi thing reeks of propaganda. I don't trust the Turkish sources and I noticed it overlapped with Rev. Brunson's release. It's like a misdirection. Brunson is free, but Kashhoggi is dead.
It's like Brunson couldn't be released without a cover story. Erdogan would have been seen as caving into Trump.
So Brunson get's released and they need to take the focus off that.
Weird.
