Beasts of England

I think it's a great nickname - still laughing about it! Hope you'll join us more often...

Beasts of England

lol, JimNorCal!!

Congratulations, Ext. Enjoy!" I worried about retirement before I did, what I would do. But don't have time to get all I need done now.

There's an ex-Dem, fairly prolific commenter on rightie blogs--"my IQ twice yours" (myiq2xu) so it's a not uncommon theme. Welcome, Awful!

DebinGA

Welcome, Awful, or may I call you Smarty?

Congrats, Ext. What are you looking forward to most?

Buckeye

Ext, hope your retirement lasts longer than my most recent attempt.

Don't be surprised if stacks of Benjamins get shoved under your nose:)

I worked as press at the AAC for the PGA championship in the early 80s. My uncle had as PGABadge that was good for all but the Open and the Masters and I borrowed it. I had a thing for Tom Kites caddy at the time.

The amount of booze consumed that week would have filled a large pool.

The players had scored of chicks lined up.

That scene from Tin Cup was totes on point.

Hi, awful, please join in! We are a rowdy bunch but great friends!

My latest gripe about IOS: when I leave the tab of the rally live stream I don't get the sound while I am here, unlike Windows. Also, when I come here after being there, I have to type in my name and email again.

IsI won't post here until Poresident Trump's speech is done.due to this crummy software.

henry

Miss M, I leave the phone with the rally and use the iPad to post here.

I think they changed the guns in bars law in TN. I hope they did. I just saw a sign behind the counter at Walgreens that says it's a misdemeanor to carry a gun anywhere they serve or sell alcohol. . Oh you just mean almost literally everywhere I go?

henry

Pin, in WI you can carry in a bar -- as long as you drink no alcohol.

Clarice Feldman

Howdy, Awful.

Extraneus

What are you looking forward to most?

Sleeping late, actually, but it's an unrealistic fantasy since I haven't slept past 6 AM probably since late 90s.

I'm at UGA at the small animal vet. BIJOU is very sick. They think pancreatitis. Big weight loss. Lethargic fever. Elevated white count and now has sprouted cysts in 4 places.

Biopsy of fluid revealed nada so vet sent us here. Start the ka-ching of dollars draining from my account.

Awful

Thanks all - I guess I will go with "Awful" as my name - short and simple. Love this blog and figured I should join in. I am an optimist, but will always be skeptical until we see an actual result in our favor. East coast syndrome maybe? I do predict K will be confirmed. I think all is going well, but again - I hedge my bets.

henry

Prayers sent for Bijou Stephanie.

To be fair AB had the average lifespan of a GM.

I love that he's labling the dims as 'The Party of Crime'. That's gonna stick and leave a mark.

My dog just had pancreatitis two weeks ago. He was sick, and vet said he was extremely dehydrated. Nice vet - three days in with IV - $1500. Dog is fine now. But $$$ as he had anemia last summer - super expensive "free dog." Crazy dog, but I love him. Sorry to hear that yours is not well.

Pinandpuller

I think it's an old sign. Back when I first lived in TN before CCW about 30% of the police blotter was so and so intent to go armed.

Extraneus

Don't be surprised if stacks of Benjamins get shoved under your nose:)

I know, Buckeye. Who it would happen with are fabless companies, companies who design chips and pay the fabs to build them. Those kind of companies need people like me, who can kick the fab's ass.

I'm really not interested at this point. Just want to quit. Maybe someday.

DebinGA

Ugh, Stephanie. Sounds like you're at the right place.

lyle

So sorry, Steph. Ugh. Too close to bad memories for me. Prayers.

Extraneus

Are you sure you don't want to think about that, er, Awful?

JM Hanes

Ah, Geez:

Montana Republican Senator Steve Daines may not be in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court because of a scheduling conflict that he reportedly has.

NBC Montana reporter Maritsa Georgiou tweeted that Daines will "be walking his daughter down the aisle at her Montana wedding, regardless of the #KavanaughVote that could take place this weekend."

Ya can't blame the guy, but, but.... Here's hoping he didn't just spring this on McConnell.

Okay, a few minutes with DJT in Rochester. He is amazing. I can't think of a stump speaker like him in my lifetime. His is a mix of PT Barnum, and Teddy Roosevelt, but that isn't right either. A showman, a realitst, a mover and shaker. He knows how to work a crowd. He really is a magician of positive emotions.

I cannot think of any American politician that has done what he has done in moving the needle. My second Trump speech, and I am in awe at how he can do it. No wonder people of the thousands show up. They have never felt that the country was going the way they wanted it before. Now they do.

Sergeant York

When President Trump attacked Ford at a rally on Tuesday night, he did more than merely showcase his typically depraved and hateful nature. What Trump really did was inform the country in no uncertain terms that he will do all he can to ensure that the country does not — and cannot — heal its searing divisions over the Kavanaugh matter, after it is resolved.

Trump ridiculed the gaps in Ford’s memory: “How did you get home? I don’t remember. How did you get there? I don’t remember. Where is the place? I don’t remember.” Trump contrasted this mockery with an outpouring of sympathy, if he is capable of such a feeling, for Kavanaugh: “A man’s life is in tatters,” he said, adding: “Think of your husbands. Think of your sons.”

In this, Trump broke from the carefully crafted GOP strategy of refraining from questioning that the attack happened while suggesting it might have been carried out by someone else. Instead, Trump ridiculed the claim itself and insisted that the only true victim in this situation is Kavanaugh.

What Trump is really signaling here is that, if Kavanaugh is confirmed, he will continue to rub the faces of millions of women in excrement over it. Trump was doing precisely what that woman accused Flake of doing — telling women that their sexual assault claims “don’t matter” — and he was undertaking this provocation deliberately, using the bully pulpit of the presidency to do so.

Can someone point in the direction of the left wing equivalent of JOM so I can go there and vomit all the cut and past conservative commentary on them like Ben does here?

Momto2

Stephanie - sending prayers for Bijou! Glad you are there!

Had scare with Darby last night. As we were eating dinner we saw her hopping across the floor holding her left rear leg up. I picked her up and tried to move it and she yelped. I'm thinking, "Oh, Lord - what ha$ $he done to her$elf?" (I already have one tripod dog!)

Upon closer examination, she had her toenail caught in a small clump of fur under her belly. I quickly untangled her and she was fine. We all laughed and I also breathed a sigh of relief.

mad jack

i want to like the brewer's but i need to know if brian bran ever properly compensated the poor test collector he defamed when he was fighting his doping case.

Come January throw the Bagman out with the rest of the trash

As for Kavanaugh, his Supreme Court nomination is his reward for his career of doing the dirty work of his party. It knows he’s reliable. He’s proven his “loyalty” with his Trump-esque temper tantrum last week. And now he’s a made man, bound to do what the party and Trump want him to do regardless as to how many people he hurts.

I wouldn’t want to accept this appointment under these circumstances. He’s deeply unpopular, we know what he’s going to do and he will go down in history as one of the worst Supreme Court justices that dismantled our government that we have ever had. His name will become about as warm and fuzzy as Roland Freisler. That’s the legacy he’s going to leave his daughters.

As for the senators who vote for him? There are no words. They simply must go, if we can still vote them out in November..

Dave (in MA)

JiB, The Boston site https://www.universalhub.com/ runs about 99% left. You could give it a shot over there.

It was interesting to watch the child develop his political instinks. He had his finger in the air for several days before feeling safe to attack the girl.

Captain Hate

Ya can't blame the guy, but, but....

Sure you can. He was elected to serve the people of his state and the Senate has enough recesses that this could have been planned better. I've done production support on Christmas Day because somebody else fucked up and I was paid a lot less than this pampered mutt to have my entire family yelling at me as I oversaw running a series of jobs.

Would someone like to define a "scratch golfer" for a Tennhole?

Guess what beeches, Ginsburg is next and you will get Amy Coney Barrett. Your next target. You will miss big time and you will piss off more women this time. Pretty soon, we will be left with bitteer women,, snowflake men,and Old hippies for the Dems, and then the rest of America. Who do you think that favors?

Berry Cherry

That 8:14 was like asking if Kavanaugh stopped beating his wife yet, huh?

Catsmeat

Welcome Awful--it's perhaps not a lovely name, but who am I to talk?

I'm so sorry about Bijou, Steph!

Jack, when JOM was about half anti-Trump and I purposely stayed away, I started watching his rallies--by the election, I'd seen at least a dozen from beginning to end (well, beginning to end of his speeches). That's how I knew he would win and what a monster talent we now have on our side.

Oh, and CH, do you remember Crews's description of almost being scalded to death from what was to be a pig-skinning as a boy? Unforgettable!

A scratch golfer is one that has a handicap of zero; i.e. he plays at par or better.

Catsmeat, I didn't read a lot of his biographical essays, although if you point me in the direction of where that came from I'll remedy that.

Peanut Gallery

C'mon!

That's funny lafftrak..

JM Hanes

I didn't realize that Rand Paul had been attacked while working in his own yard (a few months after the Scalise shooting), "when a violent and unstable man attacked him from behind… breaking six ribs and leaving him with lung damage and multiple bouts of pneumonia." Tyler O'Neil reports on an appeal from Paul's wife to Cory Booker to retract his call for harassing members of Congress. It sounds like quite a letter, but if Democrats could be shamed, she wouldn't have needed to write it.

JiB's question prompted me to go to talkleft.com, Jeralyn Merrit's site. I remember during the Trayvon hysteria that was the go-to site for a moderately liberal perspective. On Kavanaugh, she's relatively sane, but her commentariat is nuts. In any case, login/registration is required for comments.

Wait a minute. I am reading from the last post up, so I may be misinterpreting something. Is there a JOMer who drank three Newport Creamery Awful Awfuls, and then drank the fourth free one at the same sitting? Whether a guy or gal, that's a better human than I am!

Captain Hate

If you didn't realize it, JMH, it's because the MFM barely covered it. And when they covered it on local channels, they mostly joked about it until Mrs Rand Paul unloaded on the heartless propagandists.
