Diplomad says Trump will be dealing with Barney:

http://www.thediplomad.com/2018/11/and-we-have-barney.html

...So let's see how President Trump handles Barney, a creature naturally disposed to primeval swamps.

My suggestion? Not that anybody is asking or that President Trump needs my advice, but I would call Congress into session today. Ram as much of my agenda through the lame duck session as is possible. Hope that Paul Ryan, perhaps one of the biological fathers of the GOP loss in the House, doesn't come up with some reason to stall and muddy as he did on health care.

henry

Hoyt is an optimist.

Felon voting in FL guarantees no Trump win in 2020. It is all over but the shouting

anonamom

henry, I do hear you.
Apparently the post hurricane relocated Puerto Ricans weren't going to be enough.

Deeply sorry about your governor.
He was my number one for POTUS.

sbw

Neither Hillary nor Obama carry any weight anymore.

Anyone else notice that this clears the decks for an Andrew Cuomo run in 2020?

James D.

I’m sorry I can’t share the optomism I see here overnight.

From where I sit, losing the House is a disaster.

Endless investigations. Which will absolutely pick off some Exexutove branch folks because lot everyone is a fighter the way the President is.

Emboldening of the Deep State traitors throughout the agencies, so they can continue to sabotage the President and the country from woth N, this time with backup from House oversight committees.

No MAGA legislation of any kind for the next two years.

Likely an ugly and costly primary
Challenge against the President.

Thanks go to the traitor Paul Ryan, who is compare to Benedict Arnold except I think he’s probably closer to the Rosenberg or Aldrich Ames or Robert Hansen as far as the damage he’s actually done. And also to Jeff Sessions, who gave aid and comfort to the Dems for 2 years by his refusal and his sitting on his hands rather than spend even one second taking action against the endless list of Democrat criminals.

I am just sick, and I think whatever hope we had for this country is gone now.

James D.

Sorry for the worse than usual typos - stupid iPhone keyboard.

anonamom

Andrew Cuomo isn't exactly charismatic.
Kinda the opposite, actually.
And I don't the pussy hats will tolerate a straight white guy as the nominee. uh uh.

IMHO, Kamala is going to be gunning for it.
Sleeping w Willy Brown (YUCK!) shows she'll do anything.
When she spoke at my son's law school class day in 2012, he said:
"She's going to be running for president."
And her questioning at the Kavanaugh hearing showed she already is.

"2020 should be a better year for Democrats, if they do a better job than they've done for the past generation."
Just now, Morning Joke.
How profound, Joe.

sbw

Running for President is easier for a governor who can claim executive experience.

Harry

We just witnessed the suicide of a once great nation.

anonamom

Oh yeah---the Ds are going to be all Girl Power--

Morning Joke is talking about the Trump "Misogyny Effect" being "over 100 women in Congress for the first time ever."

Boy, even John Meacham doesn't try to be neutral!
Going through a list of opponents, he concludes with:
"Trump against normal people."

I haven't watched these people in a while. It's like the TV version of NPR.

anonamom

Running for President is easier for a governor who can claim executive experience.

Only for voters on our side, sbw!

Nobody let Obama's total inexperience at running anything ever stop them from keeping him there eight years.

James D.

I can’t watch/listen to any news anymore. I only get it second hand through y’all, and thank God for you guys having strong enough stomachs to subject yourselves to it.

Marlene

Good Morning! I just scrolled thru last night's comments. Someone posted a twitter comment about the Republicans deserving to lose the House. I agree with that thought. If they hadn't spent so much time running to their fainting couches every time Trump said something, maybe they could have been more productive.
Henry, sorry about Scott Walker. Maine has a Democrat governor now. ME-2 will probably go to ranked choice voting, because it is too close.

Those that worked with me in this incredible Midterm Election, embracing certain policies and principles, did very well. Those that did not, say goodbye! Yesterday was such a very Big Win, and all under the pressure of a Nasty and Hostile Media!

Marlene

I think I mentioned the warm and fuzzy political ad that was running in FL about felons voting. "He's a good boy, trying to turn his life around." *eyeroll* I guess the ad worked.

Miss Marple

I see o Twitter President Trump will have a press conference at 11:30. I will be at lunch so will have to check in when I get home and see what he said.

henry

Trump calls everything a victory.

This was final victory for the swamp, which only needed to win the FL Felon vote referendum. That locks FL as blue as CA or IL for 2020, and by 2022 FL felons will vote themselves access to all that sweet retiree savings across the state.

Miss Marple

Marlene

Oh,did I mention that Maine's new governor is a woman? Historic.

Old Lurker

I thought we might defy history because the economic numbers were just so damn inarguably good for everybody especially for people who want to work and get raises, and because only twice in recent history has the House changed control when the Senate went the other way. On those two prongs, I thought we might squeak out a very slim win.

But I have said for two years that the outcome will be Binary and that if the Dems take the House, MAGA is for all intents and purposes dead.

I stand on that prediction and have zero interest in seeking to imagine silver linings in every little "but, but, but 4D" in a mirror upside down shows that this is really good for our side and for Trump.

It was always going to be a very close call because Trump arrived just too late to push that rock up the hill one last time and have it stay there. Demographics are indeed destiny. The block of the population which fully supports Trump is almost exactly the same size as the block which speaks languages other than English at home; The borders are still wide open so that block will increase; Now the wall has been breached about allowing felons to vote and that is HUGE and will spread; The $4 Trillion Federal Budget remains obscenely out of control and excessively benefits the tranche of the population which votes for it but does not pay for it; The last of the old farts who learned from our parents what the world is really like, what it took to survive the Depression and WWII, and who were taught in school what was truly historical about the founding principles of this country...is now in decline and will soon vanish; In a society which increasingly communicates in 140 character sound bites and short texts, it is now laughable to imagine a voting population who could even read, much less understand, The Federalist Papers; Finally, nobody goes to Church to absorb the wisdom of the ages or to schools which seek to teach the same, or even sit around dinner tables to get all that to sink in.

My crew shows up today to renovate my corner suite on my Ledge.

henry

Seems the Dems tried a new scam... "damaged ballots"

https://wkow.com/news/2018/11/07/walker-alleges-ballots-were-damaged/

henry

Except the Governor in WI has more power than most... this is sort of true:

Chris Schueller @ChrisSchueller
Replying to @JayWeber3

With a 19-14 GOP edge in Senate and 64-35 in Assembly, Evers is a lame duck Guv on day 1 right?

Miss Marple

Old Lurker,

I top my hat to you, because I honestly thought we would retain the house.

Well, life is what it is. I await the President's press conference (which I will have to watch on replay).

There are kids like my grandson, so there is still a glimmer of hope. Meanwhile, I am going to discuss with him about looking at the political climate of whichever organization he goes to work for.

Old Lurker

Thanks MM. Not happy here.

Like you I intend to focus my energies on preparing my kids and mostly their kids to survive in the world as it now is, not as we wished it would be.

James D.

I'm somewhat sad to see Walker go. But he brought it on himself.

He let George Will's wife run a pathetic "campaign" and embarrassed himself nationally.

And he absolutely REFUSED to fight for, or defend, his supporters who were persecuted in the John Doe investigation. He let them be terrorized, he let them be bankrupted, he left them to twist in the wind.

You know what? Screw that. I'm not sad. He OWED it to those people, who had their lives wrecked on his behalf, to fight back harder, and he didn't. He owed it to them to punish those responsible, both as deterrence and as revenge.
So good riddance to him.

Old Lurker

For a minute there, James, I thought you were talking about Paul Ryan.

:-)

boatbuilder

Why does a felon need to vote to "turn his life around?" I'm all in favor of ex-felons doing exactly that, but voting has zero to do with it.

The apparent circumstance that people being pissed off about Kavanaugh turned a whole bunch of Senate races is heartening in the short term but discouraging in the long term. I do not get the impression that most of the electorate sees any problem with the clear Dem agenda; they vote on emotion and fluff.

I suppose it has ever been that way.

On the other hand perhaps it is because the Republican House, led (sort of) by Ryan, provided no clear agenda in opposition to the Dems, that the House went the way it did. Trump is wonderful at focusing people on what is important. All of his candidates won.

MY question would be how much longer the rural minority will feed this so-called American majority.

James D.

Don't even get me started on Ryan and his fellows in the GOP House "leadership."

If they were officers in an actual war and behaved as they did in this campaign, they would have been shot for cowardice and dereliction of duty.

And frankly, that's too good for them.

Porchlight

How did the felon voting referendum get on the FL ballot?

Sucks about Walker. The fraudsters finally got him.

Old Lurker

Boatbuilder "perhaps it is because the Republican House, led (sort of) by Ryan, provided no clear agenda in opposition to the Dems, that the House went the way it did."

In truth, neither did the Senate. Because at their core, Congress is about itself and not the Country, and you and I both know they resented Trump because he pointed out the absence of their clothes.

anonamom

Joe, as "a son of the south," is quoting To Kill A Mockingbird
to Al Sharpton, after Sharpton--a known grifter-- notes a black man and black woman came within an inch of being elected governors in The South.
It's all racism to explain that loss--and Trump--and us--to them, still.

I'm assuming we'll hear about the racists in Michigan who sent that white woman back to the Senate after this commercial...

If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!

Dave Seville | November 06, 2018 at 11:51 PM

Ain’t pessimism, it’s reality. The agenda we want to see is in an objectively worse position today than it was yesterday. Gains in the Senate are more than offset by losing the House. The dems who were elected are further left than the ones they replaced.

It’s true that Ryan screwed us and wasted fine opportunities. Will Pelosi be better? All the heavy lifting in exposing the coup came from the House. Expect any progress with Schiff running it?

That this enables dems to be saddled with a coming recession, then (I assume) followed by a Team R retake in 2020 seems a tad 4D for my taste.

Jane

What a night. Sheesh! Am I correct that Walker lost? That really bums me out. At least I don't have to move.

Trump needs to declassify everything before January.

Another Bob

Trump trumpeting this as a “great election” “success” is the first time I’ve seriously thought he’s blowing smoke. Not a good look.

Threadkiller

..then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. ! Two can play that game!

How 4D of him! Those stinkin' Dems better just wait and see... Trump's faith and patience may have finally ran out. Or not.

"Two" should have been playing "that game" before the election.

Captain Hate

Lot of fucking eeyores here. You're letting yourselves get lit up by the MFM and turning into a bunch of Debbie Downers. Fuck that shit.

Old Lurker

The absolute least Ryan and McConnell should do now, given that even they should see that war that is upon us like it or not, is to call a Lame Duck Session of Congress and pass every last dream law our side can imagine, and approve every last appointment in the line so that at least Trump can go into the next year armed as best he can be.

The other side sure as hell would.

sbw

It looks like I don’t get to run the editorial today about Brindisi over Tenney in NY-22. Brindisi is ahead by about 1400 votes but there are 10-11,000 absentee ballots that may take a week to count and verify.

Tenney could pull it out, but if Brindisi wins, the delay might be fortunate for him. He campaigned that he didn’t support Pelosi, but right now, the Pelosi “team” is spreading out across the country to line up slackers. It won’t be pretty.

sbw

OL, CH, prospects don’t matter when you stand on principle.

You keep on keeping on.

George Washington won because he persevered.

Threadkiller

The MFM does not dictate to me how to feel about a complete fucking up of a midterm election, CH.

Losing the House is a very big deal, IMO.

henry

CH, not looking at the MSM. Looking at reported results. The FL felon thing is huge, but hidden by the rest.

Old Lurker

Bullsh*t, Cap'n.

I for one, by design, have neither watched nor listened nor read a shred of MSM for the last 72 hours. Almost everything I know, I got from JOM.

Just the facts, 'mam. No spin required to see the facts as they really are.

Miss Marple

Old Lurker,

Before that happens I would like to see the GOP go ahead and elect Jim Jordan for the lame duck session speaker, telling Ryan "You're not who we are."

JimNorCal

"Trump trumpeting this as a “great election” “success” is the first time I’ve seriously thought he’s blowing smoke. Not a good look."

Sure, but he worked his tail off.
And he's overcome tougher problems than this ... in his business life, his personal life and even the '16 election. It's natural not deception. He's an optimist not a pessimist.

Beasts of England

The sky is falling!!!1!1!1!11!!!

Threadkiller

Captain Hate

Losing the House is a very big deal, IMO.

Like when the GOP won it in 2010 and didn't do a damn thing with it as the Bathhouse Rat told them all to fuck off and finance what he wanted for six more years? Do you think DJT isn't smarter than Cock Curious? I don't.

Barbara

It IS a great success. I understand that we all wanted a repeat of 2016, but the likelihood of that happening was slim.

Pelosi and the rabid dems in the House can't do a thing to the President. They may investigate and complain, but as a practical matter they have zero leverage without the Senate. Meanwhile, the President can reshape the economic landscape via trade negotiations and agreements that only require Senate ratification.

The Republican Party has to rebuild itself and abandon its somnolent ways of the past. We saw a tiny hint of progress in that direction with the way in which McConnell got the embattled Kavanaugh confirmation through the Senate.

There are many pluses in the results of yesterday's election. I prefer to look to those and trust that the President is canny enough to deal with the House.

Marlene

Porch @ 8:02...the ballot measure about felons voting has been a grassroots effort for a long time. I just did a search and a group called #LETMYPEOPLEVOTE went around FL in a bright red tour bus to bring awareness to the issue. The ACLU paid $5M in ads and the out of state donors included the usual suspects, for instance Ben & Jerry's. Political support came from Catholic bishops and the Koch Bros. So,it was an ongoing effort to get it on the ballot. The FL ballot was a maze of issues. I think I read the sample ballot ten times. We voted no on the felon issue.

Old Lurker

SBW "George Washington won because he persevered."

He won because his principles were profoundly better that the Europe his peers had left behind or fled; he won because enough clear thinkers and communicators could extend his message and eventually rally the population; and he won because he had soldiers who would walk through snow in bare feet to defeat Hessian Mercenaries at Christmas. We no longer have enough shared anything for him to do that again.

Threadkiller

Yeah, I think DJT is stupid. That is what I said.

Or... I didn't say any such thing.

I said IMO losing The House is a very big deal.

Jane

Nadler, Waters and Schiff in charge will not be a good thing. But the Senate appears to be ready to fight back - the Kavanaugh report being a start. They go after Trump we go after Feinstien, Harris, Booker etc.

Be careful what you wish for.

Barbara

California as usual is still screwed, however.😕

Miss Marple

I am not saying I am not bummed out by losing the House.

However, I refuse to give up. We never thought we would get this far, but here we are with the Senate, Supreme Court, and the Presidency.

We need to figure out why we lost those representatives.

Threadkiller

However, I refuse to give up.

I said IMO losing The House is a very big deal.

Then maybe you can address what I said regarding it not being that big of a deal instead of acting like the rest of the Failure Theater fans howling at the moon. Between them and this dogshit software my patience is dwindling.

This was a better midterm than Reagan had in 1982. Right now the GOP is going through a massive realignment. It was unrealistic to expect anything better than what happened.

Miss Marple

Barbara,

We got flyers for the Senate candidate and for some local candidates.

As I understand it, Rona Downey was instrumental in Trump winning Michigan.

henry

Beasts, the House isn't the problem. It is FL now solid blue for 2020 and beyond. (Felon voting referendum does that).

That is a hard fact that doesn't get shaken off by the rest.

James D.

Like when the GOP won it in 2010 and didn't do a damn thing with it as the Bathhouse Rat told them all to fuck off and finance what he wanted for six more years? Do you think DJT isn't smarter than Cock Curious? I don't.

Of course President Trump is smarter, in every respect, than Zero.

But the incoming Dem House will be more committed, and more ruthless than the 2010 House GOP, and will have the full backing of the MSM, which obviously was the opposite for the GOP House.

And Zero had something that President Trump does not - loyal foot soldiers throughout the Exec branch agencies. President Trump has an executive branch riddled with traitors and saboteurs from top to bottom.

Threadkiller

I would like to know if Paul Ryan was parsimonious with the House campaign money.

It doesn't matter. We need to move on. If an Eeeyore was curious about that they would be equally shamed, I'm sure.

Tom R

Losing the House is a big deal when it comes to funding a border wall and repealing Obamacare before the 2020 election. No way to sugarcoat that. Losing the House probably increases Trump’s chances of getting re-elected and if that happens we regain the House in 2020 riding his coattails. Winning the House in 2020 is significantly more important than winning it in 2018 due to the 2020 census and the ability to redraw the voting districts.

Old Lurker

James "And Zero had something that President Trump does not."

He had something else too: a goal to transform this country in ways unrecognizable to the Constitution, the ability to take a oath and not mean it, and a willingness to break any law or tradition to reach his goal.

I don't understand this at all.

The House has no influence on the districts - that's purely a state by state issue.

PDinDetroit

Lot of fucking eeyores here. You're letting yourselves get lit up by the MFM and turning into a bunch of Debbie Downers. Fuck that shit.

Thank you, I needed that.

We lost PART of the battle last night, but not the war.

Do we feel that things be difficult from here on out? Yes

Do we feel that the progress made will stop? Yes

Do we wonder how people could vote based upon "feelings" instead of "facts"? Yes

Are we feeling concerned about this nation's future? Yes

As we could not predict how the elections would turn out, I believe that we cannot predict how the effects of these elections will play out. We can play out "what if" scenarios all we want, but knowing what the future holds is not in the cards. We simply cannot be caught up in "feelings" instead of "facts", which we criticize others for (most of the time, rightfully so).

I believe that the concerns are real and we need to watch things closely, but not let them get us "down emotionally" but rather direct our thoughts/efforts towards solutions not problems. There is some wait-n-see here, but there are also actions to be taken before and after situations play out.

We were absolutely and quite rightfully appalled by how Justice Kavanaugh were treated. Now that the election is over, look at the results for the Red State (D)'s. Look at how much $$$$$$$ was spent to win TX and Florida races, but that failed in the end. Focus on what is good and right, instead of the bad which is so very easy to do.

The sun isn't shining here in the Metro Detroit area today, but it will shine again.

Threadkiller

In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats. If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She has earned this great honor!

henry

Now if the Turtle would end the fillibuster for and end of term special "build the wall" session, and end federal government unions while he's at it, that might make up for the structural hit from the FL felon referendum.

Miss Marple

Looks like McConnell will be with President Trump at the press conference.

Porchlight

Pelosi will make a nice pinata for Trump.

It'll be interesting seeing how these new Dems (who seem to be mostly women) will thread the needle. Many of them had to pretend to be conservative or at least not insanely lefty in order to win.

Threadkiller

Don't pull a maryrose and act as if you're somehow being censored because a handful of people are expressing disagreement with you.

Show me where that happened. I have always been faithful to genuine debate. The disagreement we are having is over whether or not losing the House is worse than some may think.

The optimist suggest that the pessimists lose the argument because the sky is falling, the possibility that they think DJT is dummer than Obama, that they don't want to fight any more, that they are pullinea maryrose.

Sorry if I take some offense to those suggestions.

If we can debate the actual situation I would like to know if you think Trump had ammunition to use against the Dems that he withheld and If so, do you think it would have helped?

I am open to not being called names or put in a group I don't belong in as part of your answer.

Marlene

Just an observation, but the demographics of many states have changed or are in the process. Exhibit A is New Hampshire and Exhibit B is southern Maine. Both are northern Massachusetts. It has been a 30 year process for to NH to change, but the results are obvious. Maybe Massachusetts can take back Maine and throw in NH. :) I've been reading about the NH election. A district I'm familiar with elected a 19 year old female Dem to the state senate!

Captain Hate

I respect your opinions too much

Likewise, as you should well know, but you're really pissing me off this morning. Maybe it's you or maybe it's me. Probably both.

With DJT having lost the popular vote two years ago, with a do nothing Congress led by Eddie Munster, even with his successes it was unrealistic to expect better results. Sure I'd have liked better results but my wish hand is always more than counterbalanced by my shit hand.

The worst takeaway from this election is despair. We need to be more unwavering in our commitment to freedom.

Purist GOPes distance themselves from the "tarnished" Republican candidate & next thing ya know, another Dem. is elected.
