If money talks, Beto runs, not walks. On to 2020!
For Democratic strategists eager to advance a younger nominee contrasting with President Donald Trump, O’Rourke’s appeal rests on his perceived ability to bridge a gulf within the party — between Democratic contenders who are older but come with pre-existing donor networks, and Democrats who are younger but have not yet developed a substantial fundraising base. O’Rourke, at 46, has both.
I've said many times that Republicans want to nominate Ike or Reagan. hence the preference for elder statesmen such as Bush 41, Bob Dole, McCain '08 (but not the 2000 insurgent!), Romney '12, etc.
Democrats, on the other hand, are desperate to nominate a young, energetic, telegenic John Kennedy. Or Robert. But definitely young, in part because older normally means Positions Taken and Factions Alienated - Bill Clinton and Barack Obama had the blank slate thing working for them. John Kerry was a bit of an exception but since he had been a stealth Senator he was virtually free of legacy barnacles. Hillary of course was the Establishment "We Owe You One" pick and we saw how that worked out (She won the popular vote!).
Beto should be perfect for the Dems in 2020. Go, go Beto!
Can't wait. He is such a tool.

Carlos Ghosn, who's widely credited with saving Nissan from failure and bringing it together with Renault and Mitsubishi Motors Corp., was detained Monday over a suspected breach of Japanese financial laws, according to Nissan Chief Executive Officer Hiroto Saikawa. Ghosn and Director Greg Kelly have been under investigation at Nissan for several months after a whistleblower complaint, and the board is set to meet Thursday to remove them both.

Was that really posited as a legitimate position, RG? It is hard to think of a context in which that would not rightly be considered condescending and insulting--whatever group it is applied to (other than, say, a labor union or a political group). Applied to an entire race of people it is simply--well, racist.

Good Morning.
Jim nj linked this fairly decent USA Today story last night Biased federal judges — not Trump's agenda — are the real threat to our constitutional order, but Jim adds I agree with him that judges are obstructing Trump, but did he really need to add some snark on Trump at the end?
Here's the snark comment in the column:
The American people elected Donald Trump president. The Trump presidency grows more tiresome every day.
That is the dig he has to get in at the expense of the President. It has no place in the column whatever.
I would submit that nothing grows more "tiresome" during the Trump Presidency than the requisite sentence or soundbite the Reporter is required to make dumping on President Trump. Hell, Trump in effect hasn't even yet had the opportunity to fully be President, what with this 2 year old Mueller investigation hanging over his head 24/7 and Sessions the idiot recusing himself.
No Mr Reporter, the "tiresome" bit of Trump's Presidency is entirely generated by you guys through your daily dishonesty and your daily cowardice. What the hell is "tiresome," is your continual daily need to tell us how morally superior you are to a President who deserves so much better from the likes of you.

There is a simple solution.
Turn off the money spigot. End all federal student loans. End all other federal student aid. Cut off federal research funding to these universities.
If parents want their kids indoctrinated, they can petition their state governments to jack up their local taxes to fund it, or they can co-sign on private student loans at 19% interest and no generous repayment terms.

I see on the previous thread there is a discussion of racism. 2 threads back I came across that column from the women hitting the same topic Clarice "Pieced" about over the weekend, Stop Shaming White Women For Voting Republican
In this latest column the author defines the newspeak term Here's the definition:
Intersectionality is the idea that a person’s moral authority, his or her value and legitimacy in society, is determined by how oppressed he or she is. You are judged by your victim status. Straight white men (a.k.a. the patriarchy) are the oppressors and have no moral authority in determining America’s national identity or its future.
"Intersectionality" sure sounds to me like a license to practice Racism without it being called "Racism."

But if there must be a war, then I want our side to wage total war with no quarter and no restriction and no gradual escalation or proportional response. The issue is whether POTUS can appoint an "acting" cabinet official who does not get Senate confirmation.
The answer has to be that POTUS HAS to have such authority. Without that, an incoming POTUS of a party different from the Senate Control could be told (by Schumer or Harry Reid, say) "Nope. We are not going to approve ANY of your nominees, ever; you can either shut down those departments of leave the former POTUS' cabinet secretaries in place." That can't work.

The rules are now publicly codified for all, and Acosta will either break them and get booted, or he will abide by them. And maybe he won't get any questions at all for awhile, or ever. So, the WH wins.

Typed just went ape=shit on me up here.
My Pop picked up a Nazi flag I believe when his unit rolled into Nurnberg. He was not a Nazi of course, and we also have his Nazi Lugar and his Nazi short dress sword.
It was one of these types though not as long:
I recall taking the Nazi Flag to college one semester in the early 1970's and I hung it in our dorm room. No biggie. I wasn't a Nazi either, but in today's world that would be perceived as being a full fledged Nazi and I suppose I'd have been expelled
If Dad had brought home a "Rising Sun" flag of the Nips from the pacific theater I suppose I'd have hung that in the Dorm instead of the Nazi one. Whatever.
Something else he brought home when we left Germany after his tour there in the early 50's, was a young German Orphan teenage girl who was my Nanny. Wonderful gal and we all loved her.

I wish they had included a 5th rule for the White House Correspondents, something like this:
5) If you violate the prior 4 rules and are being escorted out by Security, any resistance on your part to the security forces doing their assigned jobs will be grounds for Prosecution to the full extent under the law, and any bodily harm that comes to you as a consequence of your resistance is justified because of this advance notice.

Daddy, the press might call that “too Saudi”. Let some time pass.

daddy,
My dad had stuff from Mussolini. He was in North Africa and then up through Sicily and then Italy.
I don['t know what happened to all of that stuff. Perhaps my brother has it.

daddy: I suppose I'd have hung that in the Dorm
In my four person freshman dorm, over the fireplace I hung a nude my grandfather had painted.
Since I was only a freshman, I had to choose a painting that showed only her backside.

I guess we're gonna forget about the underground railroad.
She probably heard that thru the grapevine, and...oops, Hold on a sec, I hear my grapevine ringing. Hello? Hello? Speak up, I can't hear you.
Telephone, Telegraph and Telagirl.
