Sheryl Sandberg’s failure at Facebook exposes an emptiness at the heart of the argument that made her famous, @mollylroberts writes

https://twitter.com/PostOpinions/status/1063498198000517121

The story is damning for the company, and it’s especially damning for Sandberg. After all, she made her name on the message that women could transform the world if only they would try. That world wouldn’t only be more equal. It would also be better.

So much for that.

Here's a new wrinkle: my kid's high school orchestra trip was not approved this year by the school district (even though it's been approved every spring for years) because apparently it is not fair that the high schools in the poorer parts of town don't have the funds to go on their own trips. So if they can't go on trips, no one can go on trips.

But there is a way to get the initiative and shove Acosta's mike up his tooter.

Use Pantload Acosta's peers against him.

Good Morning!

Just woke up and saw this link to Newsbusters by Miss Marple: Even Acosta’s Reporter Peers Think He’s Gone Too Far

Interesting as far as it goes but what I notice is that all these CNN colleagues who supposedly disagree with Acosta remain anonymous, afraid to publicly call him out. They only grumble behind the scenes in whispers that emerge via the grapevine.

So why the cowardice? Aren't these the guys telling us all the time that they're sworn to speak Truth to Power? And what's more powerful than the Left Wing Media in this country? So where's the courage? They're all plenty courageous enough to call out Donald Trump every second of every day, but calling out Jim Acosta's grossly rude and unprofessional behavior---that they can't muster the courage to do.

If they hadn't told me 24/7 how brave they are in speaking Truth to Power I'd almost consider them cowards.

Porchlight

POTUS has now been challenged in court, by the Fourth Estate, to establish once and for all whether POTUS has the right to control who enters the WH and who is allowed to lecture him on TV.

To be fair, OL, that is not accurate.

The POTUS's right to decide who is allowed to enter the White House is not being challenged.

This was a narrow ruling on due process. The argument goes that if the White House has a clear process to grant a hard pass (they do), then they must also have a clear process to revoke them (they don't, really). That is why the WH is now writing clear rules so that grounds for revocation are established in advance.

Old Lurker

Sorry, Porch, I think it is accurate.

I think, as an example, that I can fire an employee at will any time I feel like it for any reason and without having to document just causes and stuff like that. Ditto anybody who "serves at the pleasure of...".

I hold invitees into a secure White House as in that same category. If those passes are some sort of right that require anything other than the snap of a finger to remove, then the POTUS is making a mistake by letting ANY of them in.

Jim Eagle

OL,

I thought employment laws have all been changed by court decision not legislation to the point where you can't fire for cause. Please tell me I am wrong.

Old Lurker

Porch, you give people the right to sit in your library and to check out books so long as they hold a valid library card. Do you have a written policy regarding the Due Process you have to follow for kicking people out of the reading room or denying them the right to take books home with them?

Think of the new rules like a lease. (I know you'll love that one.)

Porchlight

Do you have a written policy regarding the Due Process you have to follow for kicking people out of the reading room or denying them the right to take books home with them?

Yes and no. We have a building use policy that is broadly written to cover pretty much all the bases for behavior in the library.

We don't have as broad a license to revoke library privileges once those library privileges are granted. But, we can bill you for anything you don't bring back. And we can issue you a criminal trespass warrant if you're being a dick.

I watched someone get tased and frogmarched out of the library not fifteen feet from me a couple of years ago. We are serious about our CTWs. :)

BREAKING: Arizona GOP is auditing Maricopa County over countless allegations of voter fraud.

Old Lurker

I guess where I get hung up is on that very phrase "Due Process" which comes about from the constitutional prohibition of taking away an individual's life, liberty or property without it. I have a hard time accepting that anybody has the "liberty" to walk into the President's office and yell at him at will, nor do I think that the prior granting of that access then makes that access the holder's "Property".

Porchlight

Oh, and the criminal trespass warrants are issued via a very clear process. The warrant has to be "served" in person (police explain to you that you aren't allowed to come back). But once it's in place, as soon as you show up again, they will come and haul you out of there without listening to any argument from you whatsoever.

rse

Apparently Stacey Abrams has just announced she will be making some "brief remarks" from her campaign HQ at 5. That's the same time as the first time the state is allowed to issue the certification of the race per the obama-appointed federal judge's order.

By the way, if anyone looked at the Democracy Alliance links I put up a few days ago when I was laying out the links between her vision and what the American Constitution Society is pushing, yesterday I learned that her vote registering nonprofit had been financed to the tune of several million dollars by that same Democracy Alliance. It was in this old story. https://www.atlantamagazine.com/news-culture-articles/the-new-new-georgia-project-stacey-abramss-10-million-plan-to-double-down-on-voter-registration/

Old Lurker

But Porch, surely if a holder of a valid pass is caught checking books out every day and selling them on eBay, you could tell the computer to cancel that card and not just have to rely on your right to send them a bill?

Pinandpuller

Miss Marple

In my old home town we got to know a Chinese national who worked at a restaurant we frequented. Her husband and children were living in Canada and she was basically roommates with some fellow employees.

And of course a library is a lot more of a "public place" than is what I trust is one of the most secure buildings on the planet.

I really would ban them all, and turn the Press Room back into JFK's swimming pool (which is still under the floor). Then if the Press Club wants to rent an auditorium in an office building across the street, then perhaps the President or his rep will walk over there from time to time to have a few words. Otherwise, administration people are free to invite one or a few to come visit them in their WH offices if a targeted conversation is desired, and if they get cleared for entry by the SS.

rse

She has also created a new ad about voting day problems that certainly seems like an attempt to begin to assemble affidavits for a court fight.

Old Lurker

Or leave it the way it is but keep water in the pool. Have all speakers come to a fixed microphone and give the President a button to open the trap door behind the microphone when he has heard enough of that speaker. Sharks in the pool, like in James Bond, are optional.

Porchlight

But Porch, surely if a holder of a valid pass is caught checking books out every day and selling them on eBay, you could tell the computer to cancel that card and not just have to rely on your right to send them a bill?

Yes, we would revoke privileges in that instance, for sure. And it's happened, too.

All in public view.

daddy

Howie Carr has on Joe DiGinova and the topic is Trump having filled out the answers to some written questions Mueller gave to him but that Trump has not yet mailed back. I will misspell and transcribe below:

Howie: So whats the story here with the Prez? Has he completed his written filings, his answers to the questions from the Special Counsel?

DiGenova I don't know whether he has or not. I know one thing, that the questions were extremely limited. They were going to be only about whatever happened prior to his installation as President of the US. He was not going to be answering any questions about firing Comey, or firing Flynn, or anybody else, and I don't even know if they've agreed to answer some of the questions about Russian Collusion. I am still waiting to find that out myself.

Howie: ...The Dem's are using a tactic right out of Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, accuse the other person of what you are guilty of. That's what's going on...The whole Russian collusion myth was developed after it was clear that Hillary had violated all kinds of Laws with her private E-Mail Servers and destroying all these private E-Mails that she claimed were about Yoga and Weddings, so they decided to create a Non-Scandal, to level the playing field. Isn't that what this amounts to?

DeGenova Yes, exactly...they made this up. Remember, you never could have done this if you were not in control of the Government and had people in the FBI, the CIA,, and the DOJ who were on your side and who wanted ti use the levers of Government to undo an Election. This never could have worked if it was simply a bunch of Private Citizens making accusations like this about a Candidate, The reason it worked, and got us into where we are now, is because of Rod Rosenstein's corruption, political corruption, was that Hillary Clinton and the people in her Campaign had contacts in all of those Govt agencies in the Obama Administration and they were able to use them to conspire with them to mount this crazy Russian Collusion Theory for which there is not 1 scintilla of evidence. So the fact that Mueller is still functioning and going after things that have absolutely nothing to do with collusion but may have to do with Russian hacking, which has nothing to do with the President, is to me sick, absolutely sick.

Howie: Why is Rod Rosenstein still on the job? I thought he was going to be gone by now?

DeGenova I think he is still on the job at this point, with Whitaker now having control of the Supervision of the Mueller Probe, and that is not going to change, he's going to be acting Atty general for at least 7 months, and he's going to have control over that he's not going to do anything to it, I'm not sure how long Rosenstein is necessary to be there. He was necessary before because he was extorting from the President the fear, the fear that he would do something if he were fired. Now that he 's not supervising any more the Mueller Probe, there is no reason for him to be able to extort things from the President, and in fact Whitaker is there as an enforcer for that very purpose. Rosenstein now is irrelevant.

Howie: But I mean who wants an extortionist working for you, in your office?

DiGenova: I can assure you nobody wants him working there, Howie. The question is "When is it politically feasible to get rid of him?" It might be better to get rid of him when you have 2 or 3 more Senators after January when you have the new Congress come in, so that you can more easily confirm an AG and a Deputy AG, 'cause remember, you're going to have to confirm 2.

Howie: The moonbats are all saying that Trump Jr is about be indicted for treason, because he took the meeting at Trump Tower in between the 2 meetings that Hillary's hireling Glen Simpson took with the same Russian. Somehow it's a crime for Trump Jr but not for Hillary Clinton's people.

DiGenova: All of the meetings that were held by people, even those charged with crimes, were all perfectly Legal which is why it was it was so stupid for them to lie about them when those meetings occurred, or if they occurred. Every single meeting that anybody in the Trump Campaign had ...were perfectly Legal meetings, so this nonsense about treason by Don Jr is silly.

Howie: What about this recusal that they are demanding from Whitaker. How come they never asked for a recusal from Rod Rosenstein?...How about a recall for Rudy Contreras, the FISA Judge ...and best buddies with Peter Strzok?...

DiGenova: 1st of all, there is no basis for recusal (for Whitaker)...I loved how Lindsay Graham answered the question the other day about could Whitaker be impartial...He said "I think Whitaker can be as fair and impartial as Sally Yates, as James Comey, as Loretta Lynch, as John Brennen, and as James Clapper. He can be as fair as they were" and of course that is the answer. This is games, this is all political games...The Dem's are good at doing this. They are good at throwing mud...
