Sixth, corrupting the Justice Department is harder than you think.
To be fair, after watching Loretta Lynch and Barack Obama cover for Hillary's misdeeds (and the President used her email too, so the cover-up had plenty of motivation) or the FISA waltz with Carter Page I don't think corrupting the Justice Department is that hard.

I hopped out of her car and ran to the square.

He said folks will lose interest as the Holidays loom closer but his guess was 2 weeks for a definitive ruling. He was hopeful, but not making any predictions.

Peter, I was born in Hagerstown Maryland. (Antietam), I lived in Scotland for several years, and when Mom re-married a "Yank", we moved back to my late Fathers house in Hagerstown. I've always LOVED Scotland, and being culturally Scottish, but for whatever reason, I've always been IMMMMENSLEY PROUD of being an AMERICAN. It has been palpable to me since I was little. I've thought and realized that I could have been born in Somalia or Guatemala, as being born in the U.S. isn't something I earned. Both my Mom and my natural Father are buried at ARLINGTON. Of that I cannot express my PRIDE.

Boatbuilder, my JOM name GUS......was created in an honor to my Parents best friend MAGNUS. A Scotsman, with his wife Esther, emigrated to MILWAUKEE. GUS was a great guy, he was born with a cleff pallet and his speech was indicative of that, but he was a MAN'S MAN, and he was from GLASGOW. He also had a BIG moustache.

Thanks for the rec of The Guineaman, JimNorCal. Lot of O'Brian fans here at JOM.
The Hornblower series has been fun, but a bit uneven because his first book started off with Hornblower in mid-career as a full Lt in command on the far side of the world, and then years later he had to shoehorn in stories to arrive at that command. Each book on it's own though has been excellent within itself.

Tucker said he would be on vacation Wednesday night. I forgot and was looking forward to his show, but husband reminded me that he is off. Terrible things are happening to lots of good people. So infuriating that it is all "nothing to see here" in the MSM. Scary as well.
Regarding FL vote. I will never forget that I was nine-months along with my third in Nov/Dec 2000. All I did was watch news, and wonder when would this baby arrive, and when would I know who the next president would be? In the delivery room, news still on about hanging chads, etc. No kids named "Chad" after that! It is as though nothing ever changes - really!!! More overpaid useless people who don't do their jobs in challenging those who try to overturn elections.
It is "nuts" (I recall that someone earlier referenced that WW2 famous reply) that one county can try to pull this off. It does not just disenfranchise real votes, but the entire nation as this is a U.S. Senate seat.
I am afraid things will get worse, and more dangerous before they get better. So grateful that Trump is POTUS, and that these senate candidates are fighting back.

Porchlight - there is special place in Hell for those who violate war memorials. I never imagined that our country would be on the verge of socialism, and violent mob threat.
On the upside, my kids really appreciated the war memorials in DC, and my oldest and I visited the D Day beaches when she was in France. We were on a small guided tour, and at the first stop there were kids playing on the old Nazi cannons. One younger woman in our tour commented that it was disrespectful for the kids to play there. My daughter and I felt strongly that there was nothing better to see than kids playing freely there. The beaches were beautiful. It was school vacation time, and there were so many French families visiting the sights with their young children, The tour guide said most of the French in the country are still so grateful to the Allies.

Indianapolis has 25 acres of oarks full of statuesm monuments and a museum in the center of downtown, dedicated to various soldiers and sailors who served in every war from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam.
The Indiana World War Museum is dedicated to World War 1, an dhas the names of all Hoosiers who served engraved on the interior walls. I found my grandad's name there when I was in high school.
Here is a web site that details all of the sites. We have the most memorials other than Washington, D.C.

On local Talk Radio just heard a discussion of some "App" that I couldn't tell if it was designed to help you drive stoned or designed to illustrate to you how bad your driving skills are while stoned. Then at the Commercial Break there was a long radio ad about investing in marijuana companies and the front man the Ad was using to push their product was former Republican House Speaker John Boehner. It mentioned his name and former position at least twice and I think 3 times, though Boehner did not speak. A google search leads me to this story from FOX:
Ex-Speaker Boehner pitches investors on marijuana industry: 'All in on cannabis'
In a striking scene, the ex-speaker on Tuesday made a public pitch for why Americans should invest in the growing marijuana market.
In a webcast launching the National Institute for Cannabis Investors, Boehner – once a strong opponent of legalizing marijuana – said that now is the time to invest in the cannabis industry as lawmakers on Capitol Hill, including some conservative leaders, are beginning to change their views on legalization. He said nationwide legalization could happen within a matter of years.
“I’m all in,” Boehner said. “This is the time to go all in on cannabis.”
In regards to legalization across all 50 states, Boehner said: “It’s not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.”
How did I miss that?

MM - thanks for info that Indy has all those memorials. If I ever visit I will make it a point to see them. Our country has so many great places, and every town and city has its memorials, and I love it!
okay - now I say goodnight!

We are divided. Two very different realities. Can a nation founded on shared values exist when those values are no longer shared?
A reasonable conclusion, except the premises are mistaken and, even if they weren’t, the conclusion would not logically follow from them.
Media enthralled by conflict magnify the message, “We are divided.” No matter media can’t explain what has been divided or explain what fostered division. Furthermore, since many seem unable to explain what our shared values are, it’s unlikely those values have been divided. The mainstream media and politicians fan differences and claim they are divisive.
Lack of understanding is more likely lack of interest in understanding. The value that comes from understanding the ideas of those with whom one disagrees is absent.
Basically, schools fog out the exercise of clear thought, replacing the exercise of thinking with looking through a critical lens. They push that your thoughts are valuable because they are yours, not because they are worthwhile.
For instance, people claim “democracy” is important but they can no more define democracy than they can define gravity. Like gravity, they can describe how it acts but not explain what it is or why it is worthwhile. They support the First Amendment, but only to assert their own message expressed to disrupt. They claim to want civility, but cudgel others with meaningless repeated chants.
Basically, they have learned to feel, but not to think. They never learned to value rationality as a way to check their work. They believe themselves right because they believe themselves right and have no doubt about it. They never had to pay a penalty for being mistaken. They favor the state imposing rules they believe in but not a state imposing rules others favor.
Schools have lost the means to undivide. Grammar, logic, and rhetoric have become anachronistic because people can no longer see their value. The patterns history has to offer are so yesterday. There are no consequences for ignorance when everyone gets a participation trophy.
No, we are not divided. There are not two realities; there is only reality and fantasy. The Wheel of Fate still turns as those consumed by hubris will discover. We are all in this together, and only together, rediscovering what matters, we will survive.

Hindsight is twenty twenty and all that, but in Sessions' case I wish the Democrat had scuttled his nomination. They just banged him up enough to scare the spit out of him. After that, he was virtually useless as the Attorney General and ultimately harmful. I never would have guessed it.
Yes, I know that he followed through on the President's initiatives on illegals and gangs. In the areas that count, however, he took a pass. One of those areas was securing the voting process - not just the right to vote, but the collection and counting of the ballots. His focus was off target as if he was still back in Alabama. I do not believe that he ever grasped the nature of his responsibilities as U.S. Attorney General.
I suppose that plan of attack is what's behind all of the Democrat threats to impeach Justice Kavanaugh. They just want to remind him that he could go through the horror again. This is what politics in America has come to with the Democrat Party and the complicit GOPe. A pox on all of them.
Sorry to go over old territory, but this has really been troubling me today. I hope that Acting Attorney General Whitaker holds fast. He appears to be made of tougher material, thank God.

The idea that Whitaker would need to recuse because he’s expressed opinions about the SC investigation is too absurd. He’s not a judge. He himself is not potentially being investigated, which was allegedly the reason Sessions had to recuse. All these Democrats Mueller has working for him would have to recuse on the same grounds, as having anti-Trump views. Ditto for Mueller himself.

The most spectacular statue/fountain on the University of Texas campus is a WWI memorial, and although it's perfectly obvious and names are listed, hardly anyone realizes this.
The last uncle of my father's generation lived in a retirement community in Pennsylvania north of Hagerstown. When I'd go to see him I'd drive through a lot of small towns with a lot of history; where the fronts of houses came up to the street. It probably wasn't in every one of them, but it seemed like every town square had a bronze statue of a doughboy from WW1. Sending soldiers to Europe to fight a war was a BFD at the time, and I'm sure not universally popular.

daddy,
That's what we need. We need someone who is talented, in sync with the President's programs, a solid manager with the confidence to go full steam ahead.
It seems that whenever the President has replaced a cabinet Secretary or other high level official, he's chosen someone far better suited to do the job. I think that will prove to be the case with the next nominee for Attorney General. I truly hope so, because Nancy and her dancing progtards are out to get President Trump.

Matthew G. Whitaker is a highly respected former U.S. Attorney from Iowa. He was chosen by Jeff Sessions to be his Chief of Staff. I did not know Mr. Whitaker. Likewise, as Chief, I did not know Mr. Whitaker except primarily as he traveled with A.G. Sessions. No social contact...

--Thanks to Michael for his posts on the Camp Fire on the last thread. My daughter texted last night that they were getting ready to evacuate Chico. Today the wind conditions are better but she just said she didn’t think they were out of the woods yet. My grandson was born in the delightfully named town of Paradise, which was pretty much wiped out.--
I think there was some question yesterday or this morning about how these fires get named.
They are named after some prominent feature in the immediate proximity, in this case I think it was Camp Ridge Road.
Wednesday, Thursday and today were all red flag days which means high winds and extreme fire danger. We've only had one inch of rain since June and that a month ago. Often we get a decent one in early November to kick off the rainy season which would have made all the difference.
Now 90,000 acres in a day and a half, nine dead and almost 7,000 residences destroyed.
Climbed a mountain today [The Nipple :/] and coming down the highway the sun set about at 4:30 behind a huge bank of smoke.
California is being changed considerably. PG&E is spending millions upon millions absolutely whacking anything near a powerline statewide since they were on the hook for several fires that destroyed thousands of homes. They also shut off power recently to hundreds of thousands of people because it was a red flag period. Many people had no power for days.
And fire insurance is becoming extremely expensive if available at all and they're requiring many people to turn their yards into little deserts in case of fire.

....Mr. Whitaker is very highly thought of by @SenJoniErnst, Senator @ChuckGrassley, Ambassador @TerryBranstad, Leonard Leo of Federalist Society, and many more. I feel certain he will make an outstanding Acting Attorney General!

We had this little wake up call with the air conditioner just a few months ago, first the time it took to replace the component then the wait for reinbursement.
Ot, anybody driven a Plymouth prowler, I saw one around the block one day

IMO a considerably more important area to establish the rule of law is election integrity, more so than trying to nail some useless has-been crooks.
Send enough of these creeps to Leavenworth for stealing elections and not only will they quit stealing them but the Reps will have more power and there will be fewer Dem crooks to prosecute; win/win/win.

True that was kobachs project, to say he had some drawbacks is an understatement.

My biggest complaint against Sessions was he was sitting on top of the biggest nest of snakes in the country and didn't do a fucking thing to bring them to heel. A few high profile firings and resignations with no follow up is 100% unacceptable. That self serving resignation letter was the biggest self fluff I've ever seen; appropriate for some hotshot middle manager in corporate America who got caught banging the hired help instead of doing his fucking job and now wants to look like an unappreciated hero that just wasn't understood by those meanies who don't recognize true talent. Fuck that shit; he was a small man for a big job and nothing that senile pile of shit says changes that. I wish I'd never heard of him.
