Really too long for a Sunday but the NY Times Magazine takes us to coal country - in India. Lots of hand-wringing about the use of cheap, reliable coal as a power source in developing Asian countries; since it is the Times, there is no discussion of nuclear power as the baseload alternative.
I still want to see more done with thorium, oversold or not.
All the way with nuclear!
Atomkraft!!!

Before Thorium, we built this puppie at Hanford (which we are still operating) back in 1978. Might called it a predecessor.

All we need is the nerve, and political will to use proven non-fossil baseload power generation but pigs will fly first.

John Katshit: Im Very Seriously Considering Running For President in 2020
I'm considering playing Center Field for the Yankees.
Posted by: Nevergiveup at November 25, 2018 11:43 AM (Fh8wK)
Not if you're a Yankees fan, you won't. I want to play right field for the Cardinals, but as a slow, old white guy, it would be a disaster for the team. They'd lose 140 games.
Which is the point.
Katsick isn't running for President. He's not trying to win anything, he wants to lose the Presidency for Don Trump.
He should be treated as the enemy.

If we are really heading into a very cold period due to the ultra solar minimum, then we will need all of the coal that we (and other countries) can produce.
I actually have wondered if that was one of the reasons the President Trump pushed for opening the coal mines again.

The rear admiral is still at it:
When the Trump presidency crumbles before a primary challenge in 2020, I'll think back to these lines from King John:
"Your nobles will not hear you, but are gone
To offer service to your enemy,
And wild amazement hurries up and down
The little number of your doubtful friends."

I believe most of the major distillation tower processes use steam produced using natural gas. Mostly, in a combine cycle power generating process. A co-generation scheme where you get higher cycle efficiency and a cheaper distillation.

My Dad started the Christmas fund, and installed the electrical system and permanent under the pavement pipes for the tree's that span the length of Main St. and Job's Lane. Really pretty. Gets you into the spirit.
Now we have to get in the mood to us that spirit to put up a tree:🎄🎅🤶

JiB, the US requirement for imported oil will go away as drilling increases. Flex fuel vehicles raise costs (as doelnethanol as fuel). My mileage already suffers from that, and my small engines suffer even more from the blends.
Note, I live on a grain farm. My property value is directly linked to ethanol as much as any schmoe in Iowa. It should be kept for drinking, not for fuel.

An investigation into an asylum seeker posing as a 15-year-old boy at an English school has concluded he is a grown man.
The man was placed in the Stoke High School in Ipswich, Suffolk, after entering the United Kingdom illegally and claiming asylum, with the Home Office accepting that he was a “child”.
There was a backlash from parents after pupils circulated pictures of the Middle Eastern migrant on social media, with one accompanying a picture of him with the caption: “How’s there a 30-year-old man in our maths class?”
The Home Office is declining to say what age they now believe him to be, but he is reportedly around 6’1 and had a Facebook account which described him as having been a student at the Islamic Azad University in Abadan, Iran, and showed pictures of him drinking beer and sporting a moustache and heavy stubble.
“I’m ashamed both for the school and the Government for allowing this to happen,” said one parent, who kept his young daughters out of the school until the man was removed.
“They have both failed to protect our children. The teachers should be sacked.”

Hillary Clinton is a 10 year old boy. She wanted to be a marine too:
August 8, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Hillary Clinton is considering becoming a Methodist minister or lay preacher, according to her pastor.
Bill Shillady, Clinton's spiritual advisor and the author of a forthcoming book of the failed presidential candidate's daily devotionals, told this to The Atlantic.
The Atlantic's August 6 article, "Hillary Wants to Preach," by Emma Green, explores Clinton's apparent dream of being an ordained Methodist minister. The article speculates that Clinton has held back from discussing her faith too much in public recently, and this could be one of the reasons why she lost in 2016. It also notes that Clinton has been mocked or had her sincerity questioned when she speaks about religion.
