Jack is Back!

narc,

One word for your link: Doom!

I'd like to nominate the possum congress:

MissMarple2

Normally I would not link to the Weekly Standard, but this is a thoughtful article about the efforts Christopher Tolkien has done to edit his father's works. He has retired as he is now 95.

Captain Hate

Are they saying that it's only ok to be a stay at home mom if you collect a government check?

Haven't we been hectored at great length that a woman without a CAREER is an inferior being?

anonamom

KK--got it.
My bedtime is set by when I HAVE to be up; yours by when you WANT to be up.

Jack is Back!

MMi,

Love Tolkien. Thanks for that article. His writings will be immortal as long as people have an imagination. Same with C.S. Lewis.

Lots of spiritualily in those books.

Jack is Back!

Is there anywhere to listen to the Packs game without having to listen to that annoying has been Chris Collingsworth?

DrJ

KK and a-mom,

I've found that I love being up a few hours before most others are. I can read, daydream, do unfinished things without interruption, and whatever else.

Once the employees arrive, then the formal day begins. I keep my sanity with those few hours.

It means I'm not a thrilling date, since I go to bed early.

GUS

Being a SINGLE MOM, is not a BADGE of GLORY. It has always rubbed me the wrong way, when the IDEA/IDEOLOGY of being a "Single Mom", was seen as the "Single Mom" being a HERO.
My Son's Mom, was married to ME, for almost 10 years, when the finest HUMAN on EARTH, was born into this world. We considered NOT being married, and we considered having a child out of wedlock, and we considered gettting MULTIPLE TATTOO'S and having a life of FUN and ZERO MORALITY.

Nah, we didn't. We had a child that we wanted and valued and loved beyond comprehension.
And each day, we love our Son more. We must be RACIST or WHITE NATIONALISTS or something.

The Infamous Ignatz

Idiots + trees = pain.

If you remember nothing else I ever say on the subject remember this; heavy drinking + hallucinogens + chainsaws are a safer combination than sobriety + LADDERS + chainsaws.

sbw: the most efficient course of action is, as i learned from an expert medical doctor---

1. learn how the diabetic complex works in the body

2. adapt diet to body type and metabolism.

there are two excellent books to guide those two steps:

for (1): There is a Cure for Diabetes; Gabriel Cousens (MD) (by used on Amazon)

for (2): Conscious Eating; Gabriel Cousens (MD)

the nutritional guidance in Conscious Eating will assist in setting up a manageable meal plan which can grow in complexity to the degree and scope the individual feels comfortable with.

i don't make a lot of raw vegan dishes... my mainstay is a nutrient rich salad that contains the nuts and seeds (and dried coconut!) which are good for me and a main source of protein. i make two giant salads a week and have all my nutritional needs met. plus, i supplement as prescribed by Dr. Cousens for healing the vital organs, keeping the bloodstream alkaline (mild) and red blood cells fortified.

glad to pass along my email address.

30 months in "remission" or reversed. 30 months no insulin (was insulin dependent type 2).

if your friend is type 1, the books i recommended will have limited utility as much of the information is focused on the Type 2 Diabetes Metabolic Complex.

Best regards--- Kev

GUS

Jack, WTMJ, 620 AM or 94.5 FM are your choices.

Chris Collinsworth is useless. He is known as PENCILNECK in my family and circle of friends.
He runs his mouth and never says....heh heh Jack.

The Infamous Ignatz

I know plenty of very heroic single moms who married and were forced to leave imbeciles, jackasses and violent animals.

I'm assuming you mean those who choose to be single moms for its own sake and for selfish reasons, GUS.

Narciso79

Just watch it silently, like espn.

sorta kinda, anonamom--- the 730p to 230a is when my body sleeps soundest.

i was waking up at 2 no matter what time i'd hit the hay. got me to thinking that maybe i should reverse engineer WHEN to start sleeping for the best deepest sleep. when i heard about the results one individual was getting from a 730p bedtime i tried it and BOOM!

7 hours of lucid dreaming (which i remembered upon awakening), and no interruptions by dawg, cats, or the occasional car alarm set off by late night revelers.

very excited to have found this key!

sbwaters

Thanks, Kev!

The Infamous Ignatz

Kev,
Did you see the recent research, I think out of the UK, where they passed a balloon full of scalding water through the gut to force the body to regenerate the bowel lining and in doing so "cured" or at least vastly reduced the severity of Type 2 diabetes?

Collinsworth fatal flaw as a booth guy is he sounds like the loudmouth drunk brother-in-law that steals the remote, mutes the game to explain his take about the last play (no matter how inconsequential).

He used to be a Bengal.

MissMarple2

Jack,

I first read Tolkien and Lewis in my early 20's. Both authors have stuck with me ever since, and I re-read them about once every 5-10 years.

Glad you appreciated that article!

Account Deleted

Best booth guy for me to listen doing color is former Cards coach Bruce Arians. Minimal. Likes to say "I don't know why they ran THAT play."

Arians does "fills" in rythm with the main play calls. Collingsworth does this back and forth with Al Michaels, and it's not always necessary.

And when Aaron Rodgers is playing....good lawd the knob polishing is non-stop.

GUS

Of course Ig. Many many many women, have made the best of bad situations.
The MFM and the current American culture, are not celebrating women who despite odds, created a better life for themselves and their CHILDREN. The MFM is celebrating a culture, where being a SINGLE MOTHER has more value than being a MOTHER who has made choices that are traditional and thought of the children first.

DrJ: i do so love it too. having 3.5 hours before Mrs Kid is up and into her morning routine is priceless, especially if i'm backed up with 7 deep hours of sleep.

i guess i intuited my way back to improving my sleep after hearing a line from "The Black List".

Super criminal Raymond Reddington is telling somebody why he isn't ready to die just yet because their are certain things he wants to experience "at least once more."

Among those was "being able to sleep like i did when i was a boy."

that arrow went straight into my subconscious and it did not let go until this new routine just popped into the living room during College Man's viz over the holiday weekend.

hope you're doing well.

i've known unmarried mothers who never took a dime of welfare and worked their hind parts off to support their families.

they also were connected to their greater families consisting of functional two-parent families.

this single, isolated, poverty-bound female with children is a "victim serf" of the welfare state lords and masters. their victimhood is IN SERVICE to the realm. for every dollar she receives the lords and masters are stealing 10.

check that Arkansas corruption link from earlier today to see one fractal of the entire welfare state-by-state SUPER STATE that is paying people at the top of the food chain to live better than 18th century royalty.

I just saw this debate between Thomas Sowell and some dunderhead Barbara Walters type from the 70's about The Wage Gap. She was saying the much repeated frequently debunked women make blah blah blah of men.

Sowell said there's a difference between a single woman of forty who was widowed or divorced and a single woman of 20. He actually said a better term to use is 'never married' and I trust that was GUS' intent.

Not long ago I posted the mum of seven with five different dads living in council housing above a pub.

My wife was just telling me last night a single mum in the U.K. Doesn't have to work till their youngest is 16 and there they get even more benifits like cars.

Thanks for that article, Ig.

What i learned about my pancreas was that it was producing insulin; the delivery system was swollen shut due to inflammation.

once the inflammation was eliminated my sugar level dropped to 5.1 and has stayed there.

somehow this treatment explained in the article is addressing the problem from the "insulin resistant" cell angle. insulin resistance grows over time due to unbalanced ingestion of animal proteins. not all body types can consume random amounts (too much) animal protein.

have one friend who was at the same treatment program who lost 150 pounds over these last two years but she began to eat meat twice a day (sammo and main meal entree) for nearly 7 days per week. quit carbs altogether along with dairy.

her diabetes came back after 18 months when she came off the restricted meat intake. She's a type AB blood. six ounces a week max is the guideline.

so all this to say...glad to see the medical field is at least trying to attack the complex from different angles while trying to reduce the gradual progression from pills onto that lethal growth hormone known as insulin.

....children from parents, as did Bush etc., because that is the policy and law. I tried to keep them together but the problem is, when you do that, vast numbers of additional people storm the Border. So with Obama seperation is fine, but with Trump it’s not. Fake 60 Minutes!

Pin, I live in a log cabin. Open flame to remove snow on the attached wooden decking is pro level “hold my beer” time. I’ve had a couple different plows over the years, groomed the driveway with chain link fencing a couple years, but never the flame thing, because I get enough ice as is.

That's some precise driving. I had log truck drivers back into my pick up, drive off a perfectly wide road, slide off a road because they sat around blabbing while it started raining and turn their trucks over out on the highway with my logs on them and even had one guy drive his loaded truck through the recently restored school house at the Gold Discovery state park DocJ mentioned the other day, but I never had a guy use a lift gate as a snow plow or ice scraper. :)

Hi, everyone, here from Lincoln, Nebraska--about four inches of ice/snow--and my usually temperate 16 year old losing his temper using the snow blower on our admittedly quite long drive--but we're fine, and the skies have been clear since about two. Sixth snow day here since Oct. 14th, and we usually don't get snow till January.

I’m South and west of Gus and Henry and we’re having a bit of an adventure. DrF went to pick up our nephew who came in on the train about 5pm. It’s been a blizzard with white-out conditions since about 2:00, and it was a pretty exciting drive home. We got a text from one of DrF’s students, who is on the 9pm train that’s now expected at 10:30. There is absolutely no way that anyone is going to get over there to get her. Called the police non-emergency number there, and they are hunkered down responding only to emergencies. No cabs or ubers. There is a church two blocks from the train station and another college another two blocks. When DrF called the rectory they said that they tried to get someone from the hospital and got stuck in the parking lot and are now spending the night there. A bunch of people are going to get off the train and they might just be spending the night in the station or walking to the college and couch surfing...

The road I drive to work has been closed for a couple of hours, so we’ll see when I can leave tomorrow. We had thundersnow earlier, and I can hear the wind howling. It’s going to get pretty ugly if the power goes out!

The Infamous Ignatz

Maybe Glenn Reynolds should activate a Gab account.

Captain Hate

I don’t know if you do model train shows, but here’s something that may be of interest next year. https://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/lake/annual-model-train-show-brings-back-memories-and-attracts-new/article_fe843c5e-0a97-5303-bc47-210f332a8370.html?mode=nowapp

The Infamous Ignatz

Perfect comparison CH, except I always got the feeling Packer's yap was more genuinely and annoyingly enthusiastic than Collinsworth, whose loquacity doesn't seem particularly sincere or even interested.
Packer seemed irritatingly but genuinely in love with college basketball.
I get the feeling if they paid Collinsworth's salary he'd sit in the booth and be the color guy who endlessly describes watching the grass grow between games.

cathyf

Update— DrF is exchanging texts with another student who got off the highway in the middle of nowhere and got stuck. He can’t see any farmhouses, but he can only see about 3 feet so isn’t really sure. He has been in contact with the police, but they can’t get out to get to him so he’s on his own. DrF is explaining about what to do when you are stuck in your car in a snowstorm...

I really love all my physicists, but sometimes the lack of sense makes me crazy, LOL

Captain Hate

Iggy, I think Packer loved the game but it was the game played by him for his old coach, Bones McKinney, before the darkies ruined it. The difference between Packer and Al McGuire in their types of enthusiasm was huge.

Packer got in trouble with the CBS suits when he declared a Final Four game over in the first half, merely saying what everyone else knew but irking Top Men over a game they paid large for.

Packer had one extremely annoying trait of fixating on something a player would do, often just in his mind, and ignoring every other bit of on court action so he could say "see what I mean". Yes, Billy; now STFU.

Jim/NCal,

I would read GH in the order they were published. S&S is an early one, but stands on its own. Fingerprints and Magicians kinda go together in that order. Several focus on Egypt, but they all seek to look at the bigger picture of what great things appeared to happen in the nearly lost past.

Gentlejim,

We have several of those clubs in northern Jersey.

And one permanent exhibit in central Jersey that I saw 10-15 years ago.

https://northlandz.com/

The pictures don't do it justice. You don't walk around a flat exhibit. You walk up and down through it. Viewing windows on the stairways, viewing platforms, a collection of doll houses, etc.

After the visit we had a late lunch/early dinner downtown directly across the street from the courthouse where the Lindbergh baby trial was held back in the thirties.

Gentlejim

Jim,
Seems to me that the Problem Solvers are looking forward to 2020 when the Dems lose the House again. They know any Lib legislation will go to the senate to die. The 20 cosponsors rule will create more crap bills and gridlock in the House. The last change will create even more crap bills than the 2nd change.

jim nj

Gentlejim,

Your take sounds correct on the Problem Solvers. I should have assumed that any Dem group with a name like that is up to no good.

This link tells us that NASA live coverage will begin at 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific time.

Near the end of the long video briefing at the 2nd link the NASA lady tells us that the InSight spacecraft has been nicknamed Wally and Eva, since the propulsion fluid used to gently nudge the spacecraft into the proper entry trajectory of 12 degrees is a Fire Extinguisher type propellant:

I can't remember the name of the author, but a book I read some 40 years ago sought to connect the extinction of Minoan society with the plagues of Egypt.

I can't remember his argument, but it made sense to me at the time.

You have to ignore certain records to believe it, as the theory has a date problem with some records in ancient history. Or the date of the eruption is wrong.

Wrote a whole book on it and in his opinion the parting of the Red Sea was due to a large delayed earthquake after the eruption.

Who knows? But if the ten plagues were real, perhaps reported metaphorically, what caused them?

Another theory I remember reading about was on Akanaten, the Egyptian ruler, who banished the panoply of gods and focused on Aten, the sun god. It was a religious upheaval, with the old priests in opposition as they lost power in the new regime and religion.

If you like a play on words, God of the Sun, can become Son of God.

Historically, I have seen nothing of where the Jews originated. I've asked Jewish friends about this and they say Israel. I find that unlikely as they, according to the Bible, traveled to a land that they didn't know about.

Were the Jews converts to Akanaten's new religion which fell into disregard, after the Egyptian panoply of gods was restored after Akanaten died?

Meaning were Jews dissident Egyptians? Punished for their believe in mono-theism?

As far as I can tell the Jews were the first to believe in mono-theism. Where did that come from?

I don't want to upset any of my Jewish friends here, but this is a question I've never gotten a satisfactory answer to.

My apologies if I offend anyone, I don't mean to, but it's such an interesting question, where did the Jews arise?
