How will the death of 41 afford opportunities for the likes of David French to smear 45?

Manuel Transmission

For Christmas songs, I picked up a Bob Dylan album Christmas in the Heart. I slip it into the sequence when we have a crowd over. It usually takes about half a song before someone notices. This, of course, is the late period of Dylan when he sounds like a bullfrog. :)

New paper suggests that maternal mitochondria may also come from males. If true that would shatter our current understanding of genetics.

Here is the abstract PM is citing:

Story of a book lover.

Me, I've got about 16 linear feet of reference books, photography, finance, genealogy and some how-to books bookcase. Also, a to read 15 linear feet bookcase, maybe 13 feet of that is fiction. The rest is non-fiction.

I used to hold on to books that I had read, but only do that for the first bookcase. The second bookcase, with the to read books is for when I'm too lazy to go to the library.

Nowadays, when I finish a book I bring it to the library and put it on the 25 cent rack so somebody else can enjoy them. That's also how I refill my to-read bookcase.

Gentlejim

Jim nj,
Nice work!!! You want to put in an app and move to IN? :)
We have a great community/family here.

jim nj

Gentlejim,

Born and bred in north Jersey. To tell the truth if I won the lottery I'd love to visit every state in the nation.

If I won the lottery I'd move to Florida or Texas for tax reasons, but I love less populated areas, small towns with history and values that reflect what I knew growing up.

In doing my genealogy I've visited Greene Co. in NY where one side of part of my family grew up. Catskill, Athens, Coxsackie and New Baltimore are all more rural. In Columbia Co., NY, Kinderhook, Stuyvesant and Stuyvesant Falls I seemed to have an ancestral memory since my side of that family had been there since the 1600's.

Sure I'd like to travel overseas too, but the US is really so interesting I don't know if I'd ever get there.

In some ways the New Jersey I grew up in now exists outside NJ. And I feel it in smaller communities.

Pinandpuller

There's is an actual thing where True Crime fans crowdsource Cold Cases.

A big aftershock just hit. Think it's going to be a long night in this household.

This link shows a running tally of latest earthquakes. On the right if you see "Southern Alaska" that's us. Then on the left you can see when it hit and the magnitude is in the middle of the column. You can see we had a 3.4 magnitude nine minutes ago, a 3.2 fourteen minutes ago, a 3.1 twenty minutes ago, and a 5.1 a few hours back. We're feeling pretty much all of them.

I think this is the interesting paragraph from Jim NJ's 01:12 post:

new research suggests that in some cases, mitochondrial DNA can be inherited from fathers, too. A group of researchers found three unrelated families where individuals had mitochondrial DNA from both parents. A total of 17 people across these three families were affected, suggesting that mitochondria aren’t as exclusively maternal as scientists believed.

That tells me that if true, meaning if it's not contaminated samples or not bogus science, then Male inheritance of mitochondrial DNA is probably not exceptionally uncommon.

daddy

Me, I've got about 16 linear feet of reference books,

Jim,

We had probably 3 times that length of books scattered on our floor today following the quake. Many of them were the hundreds of books we used to read to the kids, but still.

I should have taken a picture:)

Gentlejim

Jim,
Nice that you can trace that back. There are plenty of nice little towns all over the country.

Daddy,
Be as safe as you can up there.

jim nj

Daddy,

If you move a couple of times the book boxes are always the heaviest. That's how I got the idea to slim down on books. The keepers that I have now have been curated down several times.

Good luck with the aftershocks.

Gentlejim,

North Jersey was small town when I grew up. No more. I miss that.

Lot's of crimes committed via moped escapes. Too dangerous to intercept. Until now when the police are ramming them.

"Now that the police have changed the rules, you’ll never guess what has happened.

Actually, you will because it’s bleeding obvious: moped crime has fallen by — depending on whom you believe – 36 per cent or 65 per cent."

Hey, run over them and then back up again and you'll save court costs also.

And the UK public loves the new response. I'm sure the UK people have seen the Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood movies. They appear to want some kind of vigilanty justice.

Boy, does this local story go against the grain or what? Alaska House control flips to GOP by one vote after recount

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) — It appears that the Republican candidate for House District 1 has won a recount by one vote, securing a narrow majority in the house for the Republican Party...

Candidate Barton LeBon received 2,663 votes while candidate Kathryn Dodge received 2,662 votes after the recount.

And it gets even weirder:

"During the review, election officials identified a ballot that had been initially rejected based on the voter’s registration. The voter in question was a felon who had been off of probation since 2017," reads the release from the Division of Elections. "Per state law, felons no longer in probation status can have their voting rights reinstated. Following the division’s research of the voter’s eligibility, it was determined that their ballot should count, which was marked for LeBon."

Alaska, where even Felons vote Republican.

George H.W. Bush, a patrician New Englander whose presidency soared with the coalition victory over Iraq in Kuwait, but then plummeted in the throes of a weak economy \that led voters to turn him out of office after a single term, has died. He was 94. http://apne.ws/nX40j8o

I'm sure you don't like homework. I'm not trying to sweat you. I just made my own interesting discovery tonight. The Pastor Anderson whose sermons I have been listening too is the Pastor Anderson of BP Internal Checkpoint protest fame. He got the ride and he beat the rap!

The only reason this is really germane is I was listening to a BP schlub's testimony about the dog alerting on PA's car to send him to secondary. The main reason that's interesting is the only PC for the stop is immigration. The attorney got him to admit the BP was sending him to secondary regardless of his citizenship or willingness to ID. They got the dog to fake alert or they lied. And those kinds of things make guys like you look bad. It's about nine minutes in but you don't really have to watch it. You may know all about it anyway:

President George H.W. Bush led a long, successful and beautiful life. Whenever I was with him I saw his absolute joy for life and true pride in his family. His accomplishments were great from beginning to end. He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed by all!

His formal statement was linked in a tweet I posted a couple of hours ago.

The Korean War Memorial really got to me, as did all of the war memorials and monuments. I don't understand why the left would hate or sneer at our history. It should be required of all Americans to study the sacrifice of men and women who serve and honor this country. One of my biggest thrills was going to Senator Inhofe's office, delivering Christmas candy in appreciation of our VIP tickets to Whitehouse. His staff was so sweet and nice to my sister and me.
(I set off security alarm three times and had to be wanded three times...dont know what set alarm off...but security was also lovely to me. They liked my red satin blouse and OU ball cap! Boomer Sooner! Yes, I know we have no defense, will probably lose, and even if we do Ohio State is better and will leap over us. :) That reminds me, I had Texas fan from Dallas stop me in hotel lobby and say 'we r gonna beat you!' And I gave him upside down hook 'em sign and said No!!!...and if you do, what about the past 10 years we beat your a$$!! Might have exaggerated about it being that many years. :)
