Mommto2,

How exciting that you are on the townhall phone call!!! Let us know if you get to ask President Trump a question!!!!

Momto2

They are having other people talk first - Kevin McCarthy, Mitch McConnell, and Ronna Romney. They said if everyone on the call votes tomorrow, we will win!

Now Eric and Lara Trump are speaking. They have quite the line-up and they are all talking about the progress that is being made and that we need to continue.

I can't think of any questions but would love to say a heartfelt thank you to our President!

BTW Ras R +1 on final generic ballot - in 2014 their final was R +3. Result: R +5.7.

For some reason either they didn't poll the generic ballot in 2016, or RCP decided not to index it. I think the former because I can't find any reference to it on the web. Although Google seems to be suppressing R-friendly results.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this on a previous thread, but Girl Scouts are mourning the loss of four of our members midday Saturday in Chippewa Falls, WI. A troop of Junior Girl Scouts were collecting litter when a pickup truck left the road. Three girls and one adult were killed, while a fourth girl has just been upgraded from critical to stable. The driver of the pickup is in custody, and admits to huffing while driving.

Today is the last chance for an October surprise.

I wonder how 4D it will be?

How many times have you brought this up over the past couple of weeks? If your psyche needs a pat on the back feel free to score yourself a win because my prediction turned out to be wrong.

My prediction made several months ago prior to the Kavanaugh hearings that Trump would release the details of all the corruption within the Obama administration prior to the midterms turned out to be wrong. I am fine with admitting I got the prediction wrong. Of course thanks to the huge bounce the GOP got from the Kavanaugh hearings Trump no longer needed that damning information to get released before the midterms. I'll trust in Trump's judgment on the matter.

In reality my getting that prediction wrong is a blessing in disguise. Its the biggest sign of them all of how confident Trump and the GOP are of winning the midterms. If there was doubt the GOP would lose control of the House Trump would have ordered the declassification of all the FISA related documents, FBI 302 forms, etc long ago.

Have a MAGA day TK.

BTW Ras R +1 on final generic ballot - in 2014 their final was R +3. Result: R +5.7.

Update to the Bama model of predicting the generic ballot breakdown that I posted on Friday. Thanks to the Tide's complete domination over LSU by 29 points, the Bama model predicts the GOP edge over the Democrats tomorrow will be +2.9 points. That synches pretty well with what Rasmussen is saying today.

Early voting points to yes

Bzzzzt.

18-29 group as percentage of total voters in recent presidential years:

17% in 2008

18% in 2012

19% in 2016

Midterms:

11% in 2010

13% in 2014

In early voting, the 18-29 group is at SEVEN PERCENT so far.

“Trump has hijacked the election,” a senior House Republican aide told Politico about Trump’s attention on immigration. “This is not what we expected the final weeks of the election to focus on.”

Aw.

“His honing in on this message is going to cost us seats,” a senior House GOP campaign source told Politico. “The people we need to win in these swing districts that will determine the majority, it’s not the Trump base; it’s suburban women, or people who voted for [Hillary] Clinton or people who are not hard Trump voters.”

Democrats, in other words.

So Ryan and NeverTrump are preparing to blame Trump for losing the House.

The Wisconsin Republican reached out to Trump on Sunday and urged him to change his message but the president said his focus on immigration is firing up his supporters, Politico reported.

Trump is soooo confidant of mid-term victory that he's spending every waking moment on the stump, in person, on Twitter...

And, to look at it from another angle, you can also say he's mostly stumping for Senate and Governor candidates, i.e. he doesn't want to waste energy on the House if it's a lost cause. I saw that line of reasoning somewhere.

mockmook

Of course JMHanes,

Trump has perfect knowledge on what is going to happen on Tuesday and has factored in the rallies to his calculation.

I mean, why would he want to win 60 Senate seats when he can win 55? Or, why have a Red wave in the House, when a squeaker victory is so much more satisfying?

Use logic, man!!!

Just Wow. So you're saying you were wrong/not wrong? Sounds kind of like a 4-D version of sorry/not sorry.

You misunderstood the point. For months I have been predicting that Trump/Sessions/Rosenstein/Horowitz have been intentionally slowwalking everything related to the investigation into the criminal corruption of the Obama administration for the purpose of releasing that damning information prior to the midterms. That is the prediction I got wrong.

Trump could have declassified all of the damning information if he wanted to. The second point is the fact that he didn't declassify the info is a positive sign that he knows the GOP is going to retain control of the House. If there was any doubt the GOP would lose control of the House that info would have been declassified already.

Jane

Jimmy,

Thanks for the MIT info. Colleges have been favoring women since I went to Law School. Great way to make a woman think she isn't as good as a man.

Miss Marple

The rallies serve many purposes:

1. Fire up the base and get them to the polls.
2. Bypass the media.
3. Let his supporters connect with each other, which is hard if you are afraid of losing your job or causing political strife with other relatives.
4. Let local candidates collect signatures for causes, get volunteers to make pone calls, etc.
5. Develop loyalty in those he campaigned for.

Those who see these rallies as a desperation move are wrong, I think. This is EXACTLY how he campaigned in 2016. He LIKES doing the rallies, and I personally believe they are more effective than 60-second TV commercials.

Porchlight

Trump has been stumping for House candidates too. He is mostly going to states with important Senate races, but he stumps for the House candidates within those states at the rallies.

And there are some exceptions - he's been to MN twice to stump for House candidates there, although the Smith Senate seat (formerly Franken's) is a potential sleeper race as are the potential AG and gov upsets.

Trump knows that a key Senate race lifts all House boats within that state. This is playing out in early voting in very clear patterns - see the graph at this link:

https://twitter.com/MichaelENewton1/status/1059445436858064897

With the exception of CA, the GOP is seeing surges in states with competitive statewide races (as you might expect) and the Dems are seeing increases in states with few competitive statewide races.

But look at CA! This is the most underreported phenomenon of the cycle IMO.

GUS

I don't think anyone misunderstands "the point".

I saw your post to TK an I saw JMH's take on your next post.

James D.

“Trump has hijacked the election,” a senior House Republican aide told Politico about Trump’s attention on immigration. “This is not what we expected the final weeks of the election to focus on.”

One reason I am still firmly on The Ledge, despite all the victories President Trump has won and all the good he’s done, is the knowledge that there are thousands - tens of thousands - of assholes like this “senior House Republican aide” in DC, who are being paid by us, and who will still be there regardless of what happens at the polls tomorrrow, and they are all working constantly to sabotage the President - and us - both publicly and behind the scenes.

And short of a meteor strike on downtown DC, I don’t see any way of getting rid of these vermin.

Porchlight

MM, you nailed it.

The rallies have national visibility and don't only affect local races.

Thomas Collins

Tom R, Trump is not Nostradamus. He couldn't have been so comfortable with GOP chances tomorrow that he would have decided not to declassify on that ground. The more likely reason is that Trump is relying on people who are telling him that release will do damage to DOJ and our national security apparatus. Trump may not like this, and he may not trust significant parts of DOJ and our national security apparatus, but at the moment he is holding off.

derwill

Governor and Senator are statewide races. If he can get voters to turn out for those races, the House candidates will benefit. Especially since his message has been to vote a straight R ticket.

Regardless, Trump isn’t going to quit if we lose the House. I listened to the end of his speech that was linked to yesterday. It made me think of Churchill in WW11. He fully grasps the nature of the war we are fighting and the consequences if we lose. He also knows how to inspire the troops. That’s what these rallies are for. That other video that was linked to yesterday of the huge rally in Tennessee with the singing of Proud to be an American really brought home to me the difference between us and them. The Left have become sour, angry, sad and bitter people. But there was real joy and a fighting spirit in that stadium yesterday. Losing the House will be a set back but we can overcome it and we will.

But based on the early voting numbers I don’t think we will.

Captain Hate

Here's a typical Patterico retard:

Pat, you’re not wrong at all. And that’s why I am abstaining from all partisan voting for at least this cycle. Republicans don’t get my vote anywhere on the ballot, but neither do Democrats. A pox on both their houses.

I agree it probably wasn't due to confidence in tomorrow. Trump has access to the best internal polling to know what the true state of the electorate is. Someone with his executive decision making skills knows how to use that information to his advantage.

Knowing that Obama used the full force of the federal government to illegally spy on Trump and multiple members of his team, does anyone seriously believe Trump would protect the very corrupt federal organizations that Obama used to spy on Trump, especially if protecting them means the GOP could lose the House and allow the Democrats to gain control? That fails the common sense test to me. Why would Trump shoot himself in the foot and risk losing the midterms to protect the Deep State/Swamp?

My college was 65-35 men, now it’s about 55-45 women. Aside from places like MIT, though, I don’t think colleges overtly favor women, but I suspect the criteria for admission have evolved in ways that might favor women (and of course hurt Asians and Jews, which usually is intentional).

jimmyk on iPhone

Trump will have much more flexibility after the election. :)

Thomas Collins

Trump's intent is not to protect those trying to undermine him, Tom R. As POTUS, Trump no doubt takes his responsibility to protect our intelligence gathering apparatus and law enforcement and national security apparatus seriously. I suspect he realizes the tradeoff, and is willing at the moment to defer to those advising non-declassification.

Even if Ras generic is correct, there is no red tsunami coming. Even if Trump's internal polling shows GOP doing better than the Nate Silvers of the world are predicting, if he could convert a gentle wave into a tsunami by declassification that he didn't think would harm the country's law enforcement and national security interest, he would do so.

Someone asked the question over the weekend about the new speculation surrounding Sessions recusal. Here is the background on that.

A few days ago Papodopolous made the claim on Twitter that not only did the Obama administration get a FISA warrant on Carter Page, they got one on him as well. Based on the two-hop rule of FISA warrants, the Feds could spy on anyone Papodopolous communicated with and then everyone those people communicated with. I don't remember the name but one of the people Papodopolous said he communicated with was someone directly associated with Jeff Sessions in some capacity. That meant due to the FISA two-hop rule the Obama administration was likely spying on Jeff Sessions. Since Sessions himself was a target of the illegal spying, the speculation is that is the real reason he recused himself. He could not be in charge of any investigation where he himself was one of the victim's of the crime.

Jack is Back!

Female numbers in colleges have been evolving since the end of WW2. I graduated in 1965, and the female population was about 25%. Its now over 50%, same university.

Back in that time period, boys dominated the top 10% of their high school classes, now its the reverse. Last year, in Frederick's school the top 10 had only 1 boy. The valdectorian, who we know, is going to MIT. In middle school it was the same way, girls dominate, except, for example, in the science fair, speech contests and spelling bee.

In 1968 in my Master's program there were no women. But then it was service institution. Now its more 50/50 at AFIT.

Trump's intent is not to protect those trying to undermine him, Tom R. As POTUS, Trump no doubt takes his responsibility to protect our intelligence gathering apparatus and law enforcement and national security apparatus seriously.

In other words, Trump does not like protecting the Deep State/Swamp but is being forced to do so at the advice of his inner circle who have somehow convinced him that he should risk allowing the Democrats to gain power because protecting the corrupt institutions who were spying on him is somehow higher in priority than the success of the MAGA agenda.

TK, they’re releasing numbers of voters by party ID, not how they actually voted. The EVs won’t be counted until tomorrow. But one can safely assume for the most part that party ID is predictive of how one has voted.
