evening all.

Porchlight

Rs hold all Senate seats, gain 5 more, keep control of the House. Walker and DeSantis are elected.

Senate pickups: ND, MO, IN, FL, MT. Maybe OH.

Oh yeah, Kemp will win GA gov. Forgot that one.

Porchlight

How so re: MT libertarian dude?

Free James D!

R’s hold Senate and House.
R’s take TX, AZ, MO, IN Senate races. D’s take FL
R’s take both governorships.

If Oete Sessions loses to Colin Allred tomorrow it’s over this damn dog ad. Apparently Sessions voted against some dog bill in Congress and people in Texas are batshit crazy about dogs.

R's hold Senate and House--I'll ride on jimmyk's predictions. He's a lot smarter than I am.

Conveniently willowed at the tail end of the last thread, where it will be easy to find, is the list of candidates endorsed by Trump, just in case someone wants to try their hand on a bet with no official odds, at least to my knowledge.

I was listening to a Gregg Allman album, Southern Blood, on Spotify when I heard some acoustic guitar chords and thought "is that Willin'?" Bingo.

sbw

I'm hoping Claudia Tenney holds onto her seat

I can’t predict what the result will be. Brindisi’s commercials are slick, but I can pick out the weasel words.

I mean, really. One commercial says Tenney takes PAC money and Brindisi won’t ... but then there are Brindisi commercials paid for by PACs. He doesn’t take PAC money but he doesn’t mind them buying time.

Tenney is, well, Tenney. Not a positive person. Knows the issues but is quite mechanical. She doesn’t really relate to crowds and treats the press poorly.

Brindisi also says he doesn’t support Pelosi ... but wait if she is elected speaker.

Our editorials didn’t support either candidate ... because we don’t usually do that. But we have pointed out the consequences of the House flipping, lauded what Trump has done, poked holes in Democrat policy, lambasted their tactics, and said there is no reason to reward a do-nothing #resist party.

If Brindisi does get elected, we certainly will get to see if he is as independent as he says. I doubt it.

The previous two “Republican” congressmen endorsed Brindisi. Quite expected. Sherwood Boelert, a squish, became a paid shill for the Climate Change lobby. Richard Hanna, A nice guy and average liberal senator, is a Chamber of Cronies kind of guy. I like Richard, but have never had enough time to work on his politics.

lurkersusie

Went to a rally today. Donald Trump Jr was here for
Katie Arrington. 1000 people showed up and it was raining.
Not as fortunate at MM, but it was an enthusiastic
crowd and Don Jr was great. Oh, Kimberly Guilfoyle was
with Don Jr.

Porchlight

I don't think any of the TX R reps will lose. Rs in TX know better than to let some dog thing allow a Dem into office.

lyle

Rs hold both chambers. Ds get introspective and apologize for the general assholishness. One could happen...

Catsmeat

To bed--will be there to vote at 8:00 (when polls open)...I think we take all five of TM's highlighted Senate seats, and more...

Tom Maguire

What do we win? PRIDE!

sbw

I can’t predict, but I surely hope R’s hold both -- the House even by one seat.

I want a larger margin in the senate so that Mitt gets the level of influence he deserves.

Porchlight

Cap'n, I always thought Little Feat was a Southern band. Was surprised to learn they were from LA.

lyle

Geez, Porch, even I knew that! 😎

Had an interesting ethics question in the newsroom today. Don Trump, Jr. is in town tonight for a Tenney rally. We ran a detailed advance on the gathering today.

The editors said they planned not to staff or report on the rally because we typically do not run political advocacy on election day.

I thought it an unusual circumstance that deserved reporting but agreed that, since we did a detailed advance, that we should stick to tradition, establish to minimize election day controversy.

We will report the poll locations, the hours, and advise people to vote.

Got a link to the rally?

Captain Hate

Cap'n, I always thought Little Feat was a Southern band. Was surprised to learn they were from LA.

I probably saw them more times than any rock group. The first time was when Bonnie Raitt was playing college gyms in support of her album "Give It Up", a fine release that I just about wore the grooves off. A couple years later I was going to a club to see 'em and was shocked when Paul Barrere and Bill Payne passed us on the sidewalk; I think that was the last time I kept my big mouth shut when I saw a musician I recognized. The guy with me wasn't familiar with the band (he got me interested in Captain Beefheart so this was my return compensation) and I told him we just passed two members. He said if I'd spoken up we could've shared a joint with them; I told him I was pretty sure the band had that situation well in hand.

Possibly sacrilegious but I always preferred Commander Cody's version.
Of course as I think about it I prefer most CC covers of other people's songs; Smoke, Smoke , Smoke That Cigarette, Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar, Hot Rod Lincoln...
And one of the great album covers of all time;

JMHanes

Apparently not just you after all, Dave!

I read your 137 article, and am about as clueless as to what it represents as I was 13.7 minutes ago.

Physicist Laurence Eaves, a professor at the University of Nottingham, thinks the number 137 would be the one you'd signal to the aliens to indicate that we have some measure of mastery over our planet and understand quantum mechanics.

I can see the guy at his desk tapping it out: 1.2.3.....131, 132...133......134.......135........zzz 1366666 Huh? Damn, where was I?

In the pause between the kerfuffle and the real election, let me again thank TM for his hospitality.

It is so nice not so much to find sanity as it is to find a community of individuals interested in doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Bless you all!

JimNorCal

JMHanes

jimmyk:

You'll only need a Typepad account if TM goes to sign-in only blog comments. At the moment anyone can post just by filling in the name & email info boxes, which is not the same as being a registered commenter. A Typepad registration involves verifying your email, I believe, although it's been so long since I did it I can't remember if there's much more to it or not.

JMH, on the previous thread I quibble with your claim that the "failure" is signing in.

Tom R

The tinyurl worked. That’s a lot of music. I wonder how many terabytes of data that website has on its server?

JimNorCal

Hey, if we're guessing I'll go with all Repub winners!

JMHanes

boris:

I'm happy to be corrected, but I'm not sure what your quibble is. I go through the whole process of clicking the Typepad sign-in option above the comment box, getting the sign-in page, clicking there and being taken back to the thread I wanted to comment on as if everything worked perfectly, except that I'm not signed into the blog. If that's not a sign-in failure, then what is?

boris

"I'm not signed into the blog"

But you are signed into TypePad which used to carry your avatar and history into the blog also and that is what's not working.

If someone at typepad is trying to fix the problem they likely will have to get past the "claim" that you can't "sign in".

My prediction:

After tomorrow night, typepad will continue to suck.

jimmyk on iPhone

That’s my point, JMH. Everyone who made the mistake of getting a Typepad account is now frustrated about not being able to log in. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where “The Maestro” claims there are no places available to rent in Tuscany, which makes Jerry, who’s never thought twice about Tuscany, determined to find a place to rent there.

RichatUF

humm, this is a test (using my old login ...)

boris

If you know your username you can get to your profile page with https://profile.typepad.com/YourUserName

For example Extraneus username is extraneus, same as his handle (but doesn't have to be, mine is not):

https://profile.typepad.com/extraneus

Takes you to his TypePad profile.

If you are signed in you can get to your profile from there.

JMHanes

boris:

Blog comment sign-in has always been separate in my case. And in fact, today was the first day I've ever seen my custom avatar show up anywhere on my Typepad blog account (where I manage Quasiblog), something that Typepad has told me for years simply could not be done. My blog comment sign-in has always used a different email address and password.

JimNorCal

Sure, I can't login to TypePad BUT I've dusted it off, updated fields, changed much password, AND uploaded an avatar.
Completely ready!

JMHanes

I'm afraid I lost my taste for betting when a weekend backgammon partner, unbeknownst to me, turned my Sunday I.O.U. over to someone else. I was living in NYC at the time and think he was actually trying to fix me up with the guy, but I was pretty shocked when a total stranger called me up and asked me if I wanted to play for my I.O.U. Yikes. I would never have agreed, if he hadn't suggested we meet at the Harvard Club. Although I suppose I might have agreed to the Yale Club if he'd suggested that.

rich

but i got this helpful message from typepad ...

it is cleverly made of disappearing text ... try to click on it or highlight it ... poof.

JMHanes

jimmyk:

"Everyone who made the mistake of getting a Typepad account is now frustrated about not being able to log in."

I'm frustrated about not being able to sign in because it elminates needing to fill in the name/email/url boxes.

I'm even more frustrated that when I go the name/email/URL info route, because the information disappears every time I post a comment or refresh the page. That's a separate problem.

It's not that Typepad is preventing me from posting.

If TM goes to requiring sign-ins, you won't be able to comment without a Typepad profile, which is why this discussion is particularly relevant now.
