Embattled Jeff Sessions out. Do we presume a replacement will be confirmed during a lame duck session? Mueller probably has things he wants to move on post-election - it would be nice to know who is boss is.
But forget about Russia - Sessions was aboutthe last man standing in opposition to marijuana reform:
Bucking a bipartisan trend to support less harsh tactics for drug offenders, Sessions instructed federal prosecutors to file the most serious charges possible, and to seek the death penalty when appropriate. He moved to pull back on the department’s work on reforming abusive police departments.
And while not exactly declaring war on states with legal marijuana — still an illegal drug under federal law — Sessions made clear he was eager to roll back the growth of the cannabis industry.
I think we can do better.
TWEETING: From the boss:
We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well....
Well, "Acting" AG.
I think Trump just effectively checked Mueller. Especially if Rosenstein also resigns.

Exdem's link "I’ve always thought the Clinton Foundation is a very sophisticated way to get around the campaign finance laws and to allow for unlimited donations and an ability to curry favor with a presidential candidate that, quite frankly, is unprecedented in the history of our country ..."
I think it is way worse than that. Going way back to the end of the Robber Barron era and shortly after that when Income Taxes and Anti-Trust new realities landed on the by then owners of vast wealth...they came to realize that above a certain threshold, there is no real marginal utility to actually having a gazillion dollars under your mattress. Once there it would get rapidly depleted by a few generations of death taxes, and paying those taxes often required selling out control of their corporations so they needed an answer. Charitable Foundations could be created to which all their wealth could be transferred tax free, and so long as they ran the boards and so long as the pool of money was available to support lavish life styles and the usual good-for-nothing kids, then they wondered how that was any different from owning the money uder one's mattress? Ford & Rockefeller & Mellons & Morgan & Carnegie all did that.
Along came the Clinton Hillbillies and shazam! We can do that too. And all that money can come in tax free and stay right there for us to use for, say, a daughter's wedding or buying favors, and we can always fly on private jets for "foundation bidness" and you barely even have to file tax returns. Happy as Pigs in Sh*t, those Clinton Foundation founders.

Since people ask: Sessions was filibustered but under post-nuclear apocalypse rules, so Republicans invoked cloture with a 52-47 vote (Manchin, D-W VA) voted with Reps.
Manchin also voted with Reps on the confirmation itself, which also passed 52-47.

Judicial Watch Statement on Resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Posted by: Extraneus | November 07, 2018 at 05:59 PM
Nice to see that when some caller suggests Trey Gowdy for Atty General Howie Carr replies "No." Howie says he is suspicious of Gowdy actually being a Swamp Creature.
Howie is unimpressed with Trey's track record in actually getting anything done, especially in regards to the Benghazi Hearings. I suspect that is the dominant JOM view as well---puts on a great show but follow up is generally non-existent, and then he sometimes turns Paul Ryanesque in some of his TV appearances.

Jack Straw seems like a pretty smart guy. Glad to see he confirmed the point I made last week as to why Sessions was forced to recuse himself. I wonder if all the people here who are glad Sessions is gone understood he did the legally proper thing? That's the main reason I always believed there was some kind of 4D Chess/kabuki theater going on. Knowing that Sessions did the legally proper thing to recuse himself, Trump's (who makes a big deal about rule of law) criticism of Sessions for strictly adhering to the rule of law always came across to me as an act.
BTW I was super busy at work today. I didn't even find out about Sessions until my wife called me a couple of minutes ago and told me about it. I don't like it but if Trump wants someone else then I will support whoever he picks as a replacement.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1872 - 1918
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

It becomes one more step in the Senate procedural delays. After the cloture vote debate still goes on for like, 30 hours.
No big deal for Sessions in February but that sort of delay had everyone staring at the clock and calendar during the Kavanaugh drama wondering when McConnell would let everyone go home and campaign.
Could be even more of a problem in the lame duck. Well, except McConnell knows every rule ion the book and makes up new ones as needed.

Posted by: Eye Doctor . | November 07, 2018 at 06:45 PM
I wonder if all the people here who are glad Sessions is gone understood he did the legally proper thing?
I do not know if Sessions did the legally proper thing in recusing himself since I don't know all the facts, but I do know that if Sessions knew he was going to recuse himself then the "proper", not the Legal, but the "proper" thing to do was to notify his boss in advance that he was going to recuse himself. That would have saved this Nation and this President one hell of a lot of heartache.
Also worth remembering that General McClellan as far as I know did the legally proper thing as Lincoln's Commanding General, up until the time Abe fired him and replaced him with Grant.
...if Trump wants someone else then I will support whoever he picks as a replacement.
Depends on who he nominates, but hopefully I can say "Me Too."

Btw, someone needs to tell Nadler that Supreme Court justices can only be impeached for alleged crimes committed after they are sworn in. And, like the presidency, it takes 2/3 of the Senate to convict in any event. And should it get that far which it can’t because it’s illegal, DiFi and little Chrissy and her co-hort in crime might like to know that what happens in the Senate is a trial, which means warrants and discovery and nasty little surprises like that.
So all in all a real dumb move on Nadler’s part and the day is young.

ED Rollins on with Lou Dobbs says that Beto O'Rourke spent $85 Million against Ted Cruz's $35 Million. I did not know the split in cash was so enormous.
Ed Rollins calls for Paul Ryan to quit the Speakership immediately instead of hanging on throughout the lame duck session. No love lost as usual for Paul Ryan from Ed and Lou, and Ed wants him replaced ASAP because he says there are some things Trump needs pushed through before the Dem's pick up the gavel.

That Molly Hemingway piece is both laugh-out-loud funny and scary. Yikes!
What kind of fool thinks like that, and worse, lets reporters listen to him while he blathers about it? At least Chucky Schumer is somewhat clever and devious. Nadler is a frikken buffoon.
