KJOM: The Point of No Return, Russian meddling medley edition.

Finally, the WH has lifted Acosta's access. Apparently Acosta putting his hands on the intern who was trying to retrieve the microphone was the straw.

CNN and the progs are, naturally, going apeshit over it. And despite the video showing Acosta softly "karate chopping" the intern's arm away, they claim the video never shows Acosta touching the intern.

Jesus, everything is going insane...

narciso

Yes it's a perfectly cromulent word.

As James d, notes it seems very hard to think there is anything in common with those of our political opposites, at that level.

Porchlight

.. which Sessions threw back in Trump’s face by saying it was at the President’s request.

I don't think that means much. It's much more beneficial politically if Sessions appears to have been fired. Even if it was a mutual decision, they could have worked out the details so that Trump looked like he was dropping the hammer.

anonamom

The regulatory noose in my industry has been catastrophic and has done almost nothing more to protect anything; it's just a giant make work project for government goldbricks.

Totally true for my industry as well.
And it makes me be a data entry clerk instead of focusing on patient care.

Tom R

Tom, that kind of quest is why I switched my major from Political Science to History. Poli Sci was interested in little-T truths. Perhaps true, but not necessarily useful. Don’t do polls, either.

My degree was in Poli Sci with a minor in History. It’s a worthless degree for the most part except for when discussing politics. Almost all politicians speak in half truths. I don’t think Trump’s tweets and press conference today falls under that category.

For the record while I am obviously disappointed the GOP lost the House, I think Trump was telling the truth when he said the midterms were a success. What game can you win by sacrificing pieces to your opponent to suck them into a trap knowing that making that sacrifice ensures victory down the road?

Bernardi Dr la paz

Ah elliot for a minute I thought you were going to vote a song from a local band in Miami in the 80s.

Catsmeat

As for how many days the new AG can serve without Senate approval, it's 210.

Jack, as you probably know, the British Tommy called Ypres "Wipers." They were there, they can call it anything they want, and so "bloody wipers" was also in vogue.

narciso

So I was watching an old Babylon 5 episode, it was about an isn (earth state propaganda) doing a hatchet job on the station, and its commander Sheridan, fake news set 150 years in the future.

JMHanes

I think Corey Lewendowsky should weigh in on the Acosta Accosting. CNN said he yanked whatsherbucket to the ground, right?

Wait, he works for CNN right?

sbw

Actually, the acting AG can do things with Mueller without ever talking to Trump or receiving an order from him.

Then see Mueller or the Dem House try to pin in on Trump.

I can see Mueller suing his temporary boss for telling him to wrap it up.

Porchlight

There's no date on Sessions's letter that I can see.

JimNorCal

OK, I consider the mid term election a pretty serious loss, though with some bright spots.

But PDJT called it a tremendous success. Is he sincere? Is he wrong? Is he bolstering the base? Hard to know but this bit by Steve Hayward over at PowerLine sounds the theme.

"Winning is better than losing, and the loss of the House will have consequences. ... Ignore the partisan cheerleaders on either side. Just take in what some of the smarter liberals in the media are saying: there is no way this election result can be said to represent any kind of massive rejection of Trump or Republicans.

Exhibit 1, David Leonhardt of the New York Times: “Last night did not feel like a thorough rejection of Trumpism. In one statewide race after another, Democrats suffered disappointing losses.”

Exhibit 2: Damon Linker in The Week:
Look beyond a few dozen House races, and it’s clear there is no blue wave sweeping across the country, toppling Republican power from coast to coast with a historic surge of opposition to the president’s party. ...

Exhibit 3, The Hill:
For a number of reasons, Democrats are coming away unsatisfied. They were hoping for a resounding rejection of Trump, who is touting the election results as a “tremendous success.” . . . "

Eye Doctor .

So Tommy boy is sticking with 4d wait and see,

Captain Hate

I don't know if any of us had or have a handle on the relationship between DJT and JBS. Whenever Trump said anything negative about him, which happened fairly frequently compared with other cabinet members, Sessions quickly responded by defending his department. I didn't take that as 4d but someone who had his priorities 180 degrees off. Good fucking riddance imo. Cross the big dog and bad things happen.

Chelsea Manning hacked his antlers off I think:

Antlered deer are defined as “male or female deer with antlers that are minimum of three inches in length".

The statewide bag limit for antlered deer is two (2). No more than one (1) antlered deer may be taken per day.

The only way the bag limit of two (2) antlered deer may be exceeded is if they are taken on a public land hunt where antlered deer are noted as bonus deer (See WMA section for details).

Male fawns with (with antlers less than three inches) do not count towards a hunter’s antlered bag limit; rather they count toward the hunter’s antlerless bag limits.

Deer having already shed their antlers and does without antlers are also considered antlerless.

Velvet antlered deer are also considered antlered

Levin gave a great extended rant to Hannity on the outrageous behavior of the Dem's and especially the Press today at the White House. Now Hannity has on Newt who praises the Repub's loss of the House seats as pretty good compared to historical trends, and praises the pick-ups in the Senate. Newt says it was a "Green Wave," in describing the astonishing amounts of money spent in the losing Dem Campaigns, and he says stories will come out on that in a few weeks.

Here's some transcription:

Hannity: Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, Jerold Nadler...are they capable of doing what Clinton did, which I think easily helped him get elected 2 years later?

Newt:...I don't know. I thought earlier today Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had a great interview...He said...that "the politics of investigation" may make your partisans happy, but may turn off a lot of people. I think the President is going to reach out on things like infrastructure, ...on practical common sense steps on Health care, including lowering the cost of drugs,...he is going to try to find issues that make it very hard for the Dems to say "No," and then we will see whether or not they are so rabid. Certainly the Left wing of the Dem party is much more rabid than anything either I or Clinton had to deal with in the 90's...

Hannity: Reaction to Jeff Sessions announcement today...now they are trying to go after the interim Atty general...not to have an Atty General on his most important case has been very harmful.

Newt: 1st of all, I think it was handled exactly right. It's the day after the Election, the Chief of Staff John Kelly did the right thing., and then the Media response, knowing it was coming, the Atty General did the right thing in resigning. I will say...I have known Jeff Sessions for a very long time, he was a very solid Conservative Senator, he actually helped organize the first Trump Campaign meeting in Washington, and it has been sad to see him have to go thru all this and I suspect he is a very relieved guy tonight.

You know I never knew about any of this but it seems par for the course of a Bush Administration. I hope he lives in Florida or gets a pardon from PDJT:

Commander Marcinko retired from the Navy on February 1, 1989 with thirty years, three months and seventeen days of enlisted and commissioned active duty service.

But in 1990, Marcinko was sentenced to prison for twenty one months and fined $10,000 for his role in a mission that exposed security lapses at sensitive military installations and actually served 15 months of the sentence!

The charge was, “defrauding the government over the price of contractor acquisitions for hand grenades”.

Marcinko maintains that he was singled out for prosecution because of the high level of embarrassment that he caused high ranking Navy officials.

On Trump's mid-term success claim--I think he's making lemonade from lemons.

But as he will be the first to tell you, everybody says it, everybody knows, he makes terrific lemonade, the best.

I do think that all the points he made are correct. The Dems now have the responsibility to act like a grown-up party. They will fail, of course.

And Trump will take advantage of their mistakes.

It should be truly frightening to the Trump-haters who were saying "he's written off the house, he's only campaigning with Senatorial and Gubernatorial candidates" to think that: a) all the candidates he campaigned with won, and b) maybe it actually was his plan all along to lose the House. (I don't think so, but it should mess with their heads anyway).

>>>Incidentally, I don't get the claim that Brat was "redistricted." Redistricting would have happened in 2012, no? I think it's just the changing population of VA, plus Brat not really being a professional politician. Though I don't doubt that the GOPe stabbed him in the back too. Janet and rich, I feel your pain, but I don't advise moving to Manhattan.

Posted by: jimmyk | November 07, 2018 at 12:50 PM<<<

here is the background, the courts were going to make the VA delegation more Dem friendly and succeeded as at least 2 of the seats they tinkered with flipped. it was a bit of skulduggery too, the VA Senate went into recess so the courts could do the dirty work:

On August 17, 2015, a special session of the state legislature was convened. Within hours, the Virginia State Senate adjourned the session. Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates William Howell (R) said, "The House of Delegates remains in session. ... Unfortunately, without the presence of the Senate, there is no possible path forward on redistricting." After the session's adjournment, Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) said, "The opportunity for a legislative remedy has ended."[46][47]

Because the state legislature was unable to adopt a new congressional district map, the task fell to a panel of federal judges. On January 7, 2016, this panel unveiled Virginia's new congressional district map and ordered that it be used for the 2016 elections. The Richmond Times-Dispatch described this map as follows:[48]

“ [The map] centers [District 3] in Hampton Roads. The new map adds Richmond and Petersburg to the 4th District, represented by Republican J. Randy Forbes, improving Democrats’ chances of winning the district in November. The new map makes lesser changes to the districts of three other Republicans, Reps. Dave Brat, R-District 7, Robert J. Wittman, R-District 1, and Scott Rigell, R-District 2.[7]

the case was Wittman v. Personhuballah

the Reps weakly fought a losing battle all the way to the Supreme Court where a stay was denied because of standing. i'll agree that individual candidates made particularized mistakes for the area they were running in, but the GOPe acted like they wanted to lose. not that money makes all the difference but he was outspent by the CIA 5 to 1.

But all was not right in Jessica’s world. The only man she every really loved beat her terribly. Drug use led to promiscuity and sometimes threatened her standing at the station. The networks wanted her, but Westinghouse had ironclad contracts – so she acted out and became a general terror to all. The reputation followed her to NBC.

She was made Senate correspondent but she was in over her head. Resentment from coworkers hurt, and led to her eventually being pulled off the Senate beat. Jessica’s time at NBC was filled with uncertainty, and with the uncertainty came drug use. But the public loved her, as it did in Philadelphia.
