Rosenstein death watch?

rse

On the Thousand Oaks bar shooting last night, it was college night from what I read.

rse

On the Abrams refusal to concede, I thought all along she was creating a suppression narrative as a means to drive black turnout going forward. If you listen to her rhetoric, she does believe that the political process can be used to restructure society.

It's a reminder that Tuesday the National Academy of Sciences released a report on Citizen Science: Enhancing Opportunities by Design" that essentially operationalized using learning to create new mindsets in citizens and then to have them work together to "solve problems".

I really hate when I write something and then within the next day or two there is a release of a report or paper showing exactly how the Bipartisan political class intends to manipulate the voters.

henry

WSJ has 12 dead in the shooting.

rse

https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/271875/kavanaugh-election-daniel-greenfield is very good.

Porchlight

I still like and respect Sessions. He is a good man even if ultimately he wasn't the man for the job. He did some good work. Had he not recused, he would have been besieged from the beginning and probably wouldn't have gotten anything done.

I think the departure was mutually decided but both parties agreed it was better to let PDJT fire him.

There is no date on the letter, which indicates to me that it was likely submitted weeks or even months ago.

Sessions would have been a great AG in easier, more properly ordered times. Peacetime if you will. But he's not fully equipped for what is essentially wartime.

I will repeat that Sessions was Trump's earliest and for a long time almost Trump's only serious supporter in Congress. I doubt Trump would be president today without that support.

I see no evidence to revise my long-held opinions of Sessions the man simply to fit the current narrative. He wanted to support his department and there's nothing wrong with that, generally speaking. Unfortunately this department is filled with enemies. It's not going to be easy for anyone to clean those stables.

Now, it's for a new chapter.

Porchlight

*time for a new chapter

henry

Sessions work product in "deregulation" was absolute crap. He may be a nice guy, but he seems mediocre at his chosen profession -- no doubt why he spent his life working for the government.

That is based on viewing his work (and dealing with the predictable consequences of his stupidity o9n a daily basis), not on current narrative.

Captain Hate

From rse's link:

many Republicans had come to think of the House as increasingly useless.

This is the Paul Ryan legacy and what happens when you have an extremely weak Speaker of the House ideologically opposed to what put him in a position of power.

Old Lurker

I agree with all that, Porch.

Old Lurker

And I agree with all that too, Henry.

Sadly, those failings became evident from the get-go with his "Civil Asset Forfeiture? I LOVE that program..."

Nice guy. Shoulda stayed in the Senate.

Captain Hate

Fuck Sessions. Get out of the way, old man, and let some real leaders operate.

Old Lurker

I have this fantasy that Ryan steps down today, is replaced by lunchtime with Jim Jordan, and tomorrow they pass a supplemental spending bill to fund 100% of the Wall AND to make the tax cuts permanent. Lame ducks are still ducks until January.

Miss Marple

Reposted from end of last thread:

Old Lurker,

I still can't get over all of that stuff in Gregg Jarrett's article which I posted at 5:38 and will re-post here for reference:

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/gregg-jarrett-trump-did-the-right-thing-by-telling-jeff-sessions-youre-fired

I wish I had seen this months ago. I wouldln't have entertained much of the "stealth Jeff" theories had I seen it laid out like that.

A few months ago I realized I just couldn't follow all of the legal stuff and names in the Mueller/Rosenstein/FBI mess and chose to just observe. I didn't want to become obsessive and I realized I just didn't have enough information.

Sessions hadn't worked for the DOJ for many years. Perhaps he didn't realize how politicized it had become. Maybe he just was too timid and unable to deal with all of the problems. Who knows?

At any rate, President Trump made the right decision, as far as I am concerned.

henry

This can't be good, brought to you crammed down your throat by Microsoft.

Miss Marple

Old Lurker,

I would go along with that fantasy 100%!

I am sure anonamom would as well.

Joedan definitely has Trump's backing. He is the only Congressman called up onto the stage at the Cleveland Rally, and the President had high praise for him.

James D.

From the Greenfield article:

Republicans have slowly learned what the Left knew all along. If you don’t fight, you can’t win. If you only fight when the odds are absolutely in your favor, you’ll lose most of the time. And if you only fight when the odds are in your favor, but not when they are against you, your ranks will be filled with faithless establishment mercenaries who will desert you at a moment’s notice once you lose.

I would really like the Republicans to learn this faster.

The 4D people have a new one:

Replying to @drawandstrike

But Rosenstein wouldn't have to be confirmed. Trump could just appoint him because he's already been through the process.

Rocco

Porch...i love you but boy I can't disagree more about Sessions. Gregg Jarrett is right imo.

Porchlight

I am fine with people disagreeing. :)

Old Lurker

"But Rosenstein wouldn't have to be confirmed. Trump could just appoint him because he's already been through the process."

That's like saying that once the biopsy confirms that tumor in your lung is cancerous, you decide to leave it in place because at least then you will know what is killing you.

(best I can do on the fly...)

Old Lurker

Rocco, Porch was speaking to the quality of the man, not the quality of his performance in the job. I'm happy to say he was a good man in the wrong job.

Old Lurker

Who knew?

Porchlight

Btw I wonder if this shooting was political. T-shirts on bar patrons included Reagan/Bush and Black Rifle Coffee. Area is fairly Republican, not far from Reagan Library.

Antifa was making threats yesterday after Sessions news. "A red line has been crossed" etc.

Porchlight

Thanks OL.

rse

Porchlight

Thanks rse. Looks like a nice school.

Rocco

Early this morning, I heard someone on FOX say a witness described the shooter as Middle Eastern and yelled something before he started shooting. I haven't heard anything about that since...so grain of salt.

Miss Marple

Regarding the 4D people:

I follow some of the Q people but rarely bring any of their stuff here because, as I said earlier, I cannot keep up with all of the signs, codes, etc. and I am never sure whether stuff is true or not.

However, what IS true is that there are people who get into those discussions who bring up off-the-wall theoriess to make serious poeple waste their time chasing possibilities and refuting those nitty theories.

I am more than willing to admit I could be wrong, but I think that had President Trump wanted to name Rosenstein, he would have gone ahead and done so, since the guy has already been through confirmation.

This seems to me to be one of those nutty theories thrown into the mix to get a lot of people wasting their time.

I have been fully briefed on the terrible shooting in California. Law Enforcement and First Responders, together with the FBI, are on scene. 13 people, at this time, have been reported dead. Likewise, the shooter is dead, along with the first police officer to enter the bar....

....Great bravery shown by police. California Highway Patrol was on scene within 3 minutes, with first officer to enter shot numerous times. That Sheriff’s Sergeant died in the hospital. God bless all of the victims and families of the victims. Thank you to Law Enforcement.

Another Bob

Some of you are too easy on Sessions IMO.

I could agree if he’d made any serious attempt to clean the place out. He didn’t.

His self-recusal now looks like “I will use this office for my issues, and for the rest, you’re on your own Mr, President”.

Another Bob

Anyone hear from “Q” lately?

narciso

So Leslie cockburn, jurassic moonbat lost good.

Miss Marple

Another Bob,

In support of your position, are many of the points in Gregg Jarretts article, but the one that struck me was this: He recused himself on the very first day.

Now, I remember when that was announced and he said he had done so after consultation with DOJ ethics officials (a suspect group if you ask me, anyway, given what we have learned). That means he had to have done so during the transition or he wouldn't have recused himself on the first day. AND he didn't inform the President, either.

Why not? Because President Trump would have appointed someone else who wouldn't need to recuse.

I also am mindful that he turned down Homeland Security secretary, and insisted on DOJ.

So there is that niggling suspicion in my mind that he simply wanted to run his own program.

Miss Marple

Another Bob,

Q has been posting. I am not following all of it, so just am making note that it's still out there.

Miss Marple

Bob, I am SO sorry for the typo!

[I don't see a typo - TM]

Rocco

OL, Porch, I guess I question his integrity. (Janet and Beasts too...forgive me)

On his first day in office, Sessions recused himself from any involvement in the investigation of possible “collusion” between the Trump presidential campaign or Donald Trump and Russia to win the 2016 presidential election. This was like a fire chief running away from the scene of a major blaze.

Sessions made it official three weeks later, shirking his duty to supervise a critically important investigation and instead relegating himself to become a meaningless bystander as events threatened to overtake the new administration.

The attorney general deliberately concealed his intent to disregard his responsibility and duty from President Trump, betraying the president’s trust and poisoning their relationship from the outset.

If not for Sessions’ deceit, it is unlikely that a special counsel – Robert Mueller or anyone else – would have ever been appointed.

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/gregg-jarrett-jeff-sessions-and-rod-rosenstein-should-leave-their-top-justice-department-jobs-soon

Old Lurker

The reason I have been so tough on Trump on the DoJ front is that as the CEO, he should have fired the guy on day one on two grounds: accepting only "part" of the job while getting paid for the whole thing; and failing to discuss such a major, certain to be problematic, unilateral action with his boss ahead of time.

Shame on Sessions, sure. But more shame on Trump.

James D.

It seems that ballot initiatives in Florida pass through the legislature and require a 3/5 majority. A Governor, however, cannot veto.

(Sorry if someone has pointed this out already.)

James D.

Those "protesters" outside Carlson's home should have been shot.

Actually, this is a nice test right off the bat for our new Acting Attorney General. We've got a national, organized terrorist group, openly potting on social media, funded by prominent Democrats, physically attacking innocent people in their homes. Time for some prosecutions.

(by the way, now Typepad won't even save my name after I post a comment. This is really absurd. This software is appallingly bad)

All forms of being constipated are a “Constitutional crisis”

Tom Bowler

For Eeyore from Conrad Black:

Now that the president has fired the attorney general and can confirm a replacement who is not emasculated on Russian matters, the administration can proceed to the indictment of all leading members of the Clinton campaign and the Obama justice department who appear to have incriminated themselves by lying to Congress or the FISA Court, including Hillary Clinton, Loretta Lynch, and agency heads John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey. This may happen anyway, but it certainly will if the Waters-Nadler-Schiff faction is unleashed. Trump has been put to extreme inconvenience by these spurious investigations and he can, if he wishes, exact a terrible vengeance. His moderation should not be presumed.

If, for the next two years, Democrats simply obstruct and investigate, Trump might be forced to rely on his pen and his phone to get things done, and most of the things he chooses to get done might best be accomplished by the DOJ.

Wishful thinking? Maybe so but it's something to think about, and Trump is not notorious for turning the other cheek.

Your friend,
Tom

The WH press corp are beyond criticism or reproach. Just ask them.

Acosta must have watched hours of Rather, and Donaldson shouting questions to Nixon and Reagan. When you consider the 95% negative, constant reporting of the Trump administration by CNN/MSNBC, there is no doubt they are the "enemy of the people" by not being fair, balanced, and neutral.
