Let's ask the one question I haven't heard before ...
Did Comey decide to forego prosecution of prosecution of Hillary Clinton based on his possible believe that Trump had done worse and he didn't want to throw legal shade on both major candidates ?
I just ordered a wonderful sounding black tea with vanilla from Harney’s. I’m very much hoping that it taste like the tea a friend use to bring back from a tea shop in Paris that I loved.
As Kev said, Trump continues to tweet about the investigation to make sure the media can’t bury the story. He’s a master marketer and banging the drum incessantly is how you sell product/ideas.

Usually such blunt characterizations by the usual suspects :-) are then followed by bitter clingers who say "yes, but I like Tucker Carlson and enjoy watching his show..."
So enjoy this one, for what it's worth if anything:
It has been incorrectly reported that Rudy Giuliani and others will not be doing a counter to the Mueller Report. That is Fake News. Already 87 pages done, but obviously cannot complete until we see the final Witch Hunt Report.
If a neighbor dog is howling and crying off and on from say 5am to 6:30am ... and if you are the owner, how would you prefer to be informed?
Probably the neighbor sleeps through or ignores the sound.
Mrs Sunnyvale is a light sleeper though. And our window is near-ish the back yard side fence close to the dog. We probably are more exposed to the sound than the owner.
Despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about Barr, everything I've heard about him is positive. I don't mean what people say about him, but things he himself has said.
Speaking of Gowdy, on the last thread, now that Roy Clark has died the decks are cleared for Treytor and Corker to star in an unfunny and untalented remake of HeeHaw by those two brainless RINO hicks. Think of it as another Murphy Brown.
Trump has “repeatedly asked” if Barr would recuse himself from overseeing Mueller because he wants a “loyalist” managing the investigation, according to @nytimes.
This is corruption, pure and simple. Congress should investigate communications with Barr about the investigation.
Jim - is the dog kept outside 24/7 or have they let him/her out for their morning potty break?
What might be happening is they wake up - let the dog out to potty - go back to bed and ignore the barking.
Do you know your neighbors? If so, I would walk over and have a friendly chat, ask if they hear the dog, and let them know it disturbs your sleep.
If not, I would leave a polite note asking that they find a solution that does not disturb their neighbors.
Jim, we had exactly that problem last summer in Nantucket and we agonized about how to handle it. Finally I put on my big boy pants and went to speak with my neighbor and found she was appalled and embarrassed and solved the problem from that point on.
Like some people who become "nose blind", she confessed that she was so used to the yapping that she had no idea how annoying it was for others.

I do not see how POTUS could have made a better choice than Bill Barr for AG. He is simply excellent - supremely qualified, confident, smart, steeped in the honorable traditions of DOJ, and an all around good guy. He can right the ship and navigate through the storms.
I've pointed out at least a couple examples, asset forfeiture and gun regulation are what immediately come to mind, where Sessions was out of step with the Founding Fathers and their concept of Constitutional Repubicanism. Since DJT asked for his resignation I think it's misleading to call him pro MAGA.
We will be doing a major Counter Report to the Mueller Report. This should never again be allowed to happen to a future President of the United States!

I want to not be effing lied to anymore by the people whose salary I pay via my taxes, and whose power is granted only temporarily and with my consent.
That is what I want. And 4D and endless billsit and secret schemes that we have to guess at by reading tea leaves or goat entrails and all the rest of it are just more lies, and I am done with that.
But he has thrived inside the Beltway forever and made his bones working for Bush people.
In other times I would be very pleased. But this is war, and the enemies are all in the same clubs in DC.
I’m with you (big surprise there, I know).
I don’t care if he’s a good man. I don’t care what he says. All they counts is what he actually does as AG. Either he works every day to drain the swamp and to prosecute the endless list of crimes of the prior administration and the deep state and their allies in the msm and elsewhere, or he’s just another traitor.
No benefit of the doubt. No honeymoon. No mulligans or forgiveness. Do the job, start restoring the rule of law. Do it every day. No room for error. No backsliding. Or go to hell.
Trump told Sessions to take a hike for some reason, Tom. Since you and that blowhard from Florida seem to care more about Sessions' reputation than draining the swamp, maybe the burden of proof is on you.
What is mind boggling about my NC Congressional district's vote not being certified is that it sounds like it is for EXACTLY the same thing as what went on in CA after the election--somebody went door-to-door to collect absentee ballots that were outstanding.
If Congress is going to allow CA to that, we need to be able to do it here too, right???
Fox notes that "it is illegal in that state."
Apparently, Ds in CA changed their state law to make that legal a few years ago. "Harvesting." They get a list of absentee ballots that were requested but not returned, then go get 'em!
Likely "helping" that they get filled out in the process...
Still illegal in NC for anybody but the voter or "close family member" to get that absentee ballot back to wherever it goes.
Tom R, when Democrats commit felonies by the truckload and never see the inside of a courtroom, while republicans find themselves persecuted, bankrupted and jailed for process crimes invented by an out of control special counse, the use of law is nowhere close to being restored.
This is one of the few things Trump has done where my first impression is that he fucked up. Hope my first impression is wrong.
I will make my point from the Ledge perspective that numerous people here had advocated. Mueller and Rosenstein are Black Hats trying to destroy Trump and protect the Deep State Swamp. I am also going to interpret Trump's tweets about the Mueller SC "Witch Hunt" literally.
If everything I have advocated about 4D Chess turns out to be wrong, then why didn't Trump fire Rosenstein and appoint Whitaker as Acting Deputy AG and keep the pro-MAGA Sessions? That achieves the same exact situation we have now where Whitaker has oversight authority over Mueller and Rosenstein is out of the picture. Instead now we have a pro-Bush Establishment type as AG and Rosenstein still in place. WTF was Trump thinking?
Trump told Sessions to take a hike for some reason, Tom.
There is obviously some reason we aren't aware of for why Trump fired Sessions but until there is public evidence to the contrary I will assume they were in lockstep agreement on the Trump administration's stance on civil asset forfeiture and cracking down on convicted felons owning guns.
BTW the proponents of civil asset forfeiture state its a major law enforcement tool in fighting organized crime and money laundering. That policy may come in pretty handy in the near future depending on what comes out of the Panama Papers indictments.
Thanks for the dog advice!
Yeah, I wanted the dog owner's perspective, how you would want it handled from your side.
Problem resolved for now. Owner left home early. No one else home. Dog is lonely and feeling abandoned most likely.
This neighbor is a local gov worker with Obama sticker on car. She is inconsiderate in several ways. So I want to be sure the dog is not unfairly treated due to my antipathy towards the owner. I did not call Animal Control lol.
Tom R, you assume Trump has freedom of action... he is constrained by the Constitution and whatever person he can get through a Senate confirmation (plus whatever trips the impeachment bozos). Skip that detail and you get lost in the weeds as you currently are.
That makes Trump's decision to fire Sessions even more stupid. Why risk losing someone who was a staunch ally and advocate for the MAGA agenda and be forced to replace him with someone that the GOPe Establishment finds acceptable because he is an ally of the Swamp?
BTW the proponents of civil asset forfeiture state its a major law enforcement tool in fighting organized crime and money laundering. That policy may come in pretty handy in the near future depending on what comes out of the Panama Papers indictments.
You consistently support the state versus the rights of the accused and then get upset when I call you a police state apologist. Do you understand how that can be used against an innocent private citizen which the state already has bent over in terms of financial resources to spend on a case?
You consistently support the state versus the rights of the accused and then get upset when I call you a police state apologist. Do you understand how that can be used against an innocent private citizen which the state already has bent over in terms of financial resources to spend on a case?
You want the Swamp drained right? You want corrupt politicians like the Clintons brought to justice right? You want corrupt anti-Americans/pro-Marxist/globalist billionaires like Soros and Steyer funding all of the anti-American protests, migrant caravans thwarted right?
I've seen enough evidence that when the Democrats are in power that they ignore the Constitution and willingly target and destroy innocent private civilians that ideologically oppose them. They are always going to do that regardless of what the federal policy on civil asset forfeiture is.
Yeah, it's just that anything's possible, but it's hard to believe Trump would be dumb enough to make a bad pick after all that's transpired so far. He's not a rookie anymore.
My guess is that Rosenstein will be fired as soon as a new AG is confirmed. Whitaker is the sword of Damocles hanging over the Senate's head. If they balk at Barr, Whitaker can remain acting AG for 420 days.
Btw, I hope Lindsay & Co. quote the Wingman many times at the Barr hearings.
Property confiscated from individuals with the thinnest of “process”, a typically onerous process to reverse the confiscation, and no need for a charge or even an arrest of the property owner/holder needed.
Nobody who claims to be about “rule of law” and “liberty” can approve of this.
We're arguing past each other, Tom. Rather than take the bait that I'm supporting any of the lowlifes that you used as examples, I'm just dropping out of this argument.
“regardless of what the federal policy on civil asset forfeiture is.””
Tom, you’re getting further and further away from what MAGA is supposed to be about. Sounds more like you don’t want the swamp drained, you just want it used against different people.
You’re also assuming facts not in evidence about Sessions.
It's always a game, we lose they win. There was no independent counsel statute didn't matter they had their inside man Comey then Rosenstein now they have their javert Chisholm Earle bhara
Kev: What it comes down to is the company must have top flight editorial staff who can write for the literate segment of the audience. this "propeller head smart ass millenial hipster" shite doesn't sell.
Nonsense. Ordinary people without straight-A Journalism school credentials can be trained to excel in the craft of newspapering.
What will fail is “journalism” that tells readers what to think by making their judgments for them.
Local newspapers face a 10-year delay in family-starting by those 20-30 years old. Newspapers have to hang on, not making money but having a sound business model, until this generation realizes they can’t personally be everywhere in the community to learn what they need to know to plan their future.
We will print as long as the older readers pay their 25% and retail advertisers pay their 75% for printing and delivery (a million dollars a year for us).
After that, we will be able to survive on about two bucks a week subscription for an all electronic newspaper, if we cover the county well -- which we do.
Ironically, we would have done better personally to sell the newspaper ten years ago but we believed our community deserved a better newspaper than chains were delivering.
My wish is to keep us going long enough to see my obituary in a print edition of the Sentinel. [There is a joke in there somewhere. ;-) ]
For those who like Chrome and Chrome extensions, but don't like being tracked by Google, there's no need to move to Firefox or a completely new platform. Brave - developed by the guy Mozilla/Firefox fired for donating to the defense of marriage prop 8 in CA - is based on the same open-source code as Chrome and is now compatible with Chrome extensions. Brave blocks trackers and ads by default. It also blocks auto-loading videos, which can be allowed by site.
I've completely moved over on PCs. Android Brave doesn't yet support Chrome extensions, so I'm still using Yandex on the phone.
Do you understand how that can be used against an innocent private citizen which the state already has bent over in terms of financial resources to spend on a case?
We already know Democrats are going to promote leftwing authoritarianism when they are in power. That is going to happen regardless of what the DOJ policy on civil asset forfeiture is.
Can you cite one example of the pro-MAGA Sessions-led DOJ abusing the policy to screw over an innocent private civilian?
BTW this sure makes it sound like Trump supported the policy.
“As any of these law enforcement partners will tell you and as President Trump knows well, civil asset forfeiture is a key tool that helps law enforcement defund organized crime, take back ill-gotten gains, and prevent new crimes from being committed, and it weakens the criminals and the cartels.
“President Trump has directed this Department of Justice to reduce crime in this country, and we will use every lawful tool that we have to do that. We will continue to encourage civil asset forfeiture whenever appropriate in order to hit organized crime in the wallet.
You’re also assuming facts not in evidence about Sessions.
There is plenty of evidence that Sessions was 100% pro-MAGA. People who insist he didn't support Trump come across to me as irrationally ignorant. Sorry if that offends anyone.
We're arguing past each other, Tom. Rather than take the bait that I'm supporting any of the lowlifes that you used as examples, I'm just dropping out of this argument.
You can drop out if you like. Anyone else is welcome to engage in the discussion.
Ask yourself what possible reasons Trump and Sessions implemented this policy at the DOJ? Knowing that Trump is using the full power of the US economy to advance his America First foreign policy, don't you think he will resort to a similar economic strategy to advance his MAGA domestic agenda?
Personally I don't see how there is any way for Trump to successfully drain the Swamp as long as all the corrupt members of it have billions of dollars at their disposal to oppose him. Remember this Executive Order?
When you combine that EO along with the DOJ policy on civil asset forfeiture it always struck me as two policies meant to reinforce one another to drain the Swamp.
“I don’t care if he’s a good man. I don’t care what he says. All they counts is what he actually does as AG.”
I hope you don’t think my positive comments about him amount to disagreement with this. I’m just saying that as of now his track record gives me no reason to head over to the ledge. If his actions as AG disappoint, I’ll be right there with OL.
Let's ask the one question I haven't heard before ...

Meanwhile, Whitaker is insurance against any pick not being confirmed.

No matter what Sessions or his cheerleaders say.

Ext @ 10:38
Posted by: Tom R | December 07, 2018 at 10:52 AM
Speaking of rule of law... maybe Barr or Whitaker can detail a few attorneys and investigators to look into this:

It sure seems like there’s be RICO violations or other federal charges to be made somewhere in that massive electoral fraud scheme.

That makes Trump's decision to fire Sessions even more stupid. Why risk losing someone who was a staunch ally and advocate for the MAGA agenda and be forced to replace him with someone that the GOPe Establishment finds acceptable because he is an ally of the Swamp?

Posted by: Extraneus | December 07, 2018 at 11:20 AM
I'm going with the theory that AG-nom Barr is somewhat swampish but has been calculated to be the best that a) will serve and b) can be confirmed.
Probably some folks are afraid to have Trump on their resume.
And some too populist to pass the GOPe gauntlet.

Not “can” be used CH, “has” been used.
Property confiscated from individuals with the thinnest of “process”, a typically onerous process to reverse the confiscation, and no need for a charge or even an arrest of the property owner/holder needed.
Nobody who claims to be about “rule of law” and “liberty” can approve of this.

[There is a joke in there somewhere. ;-) ]

Browser update:

Another Bob,
You missed the entire point. CH said this:
Do you understand how that can be used against an innocent private citizen which the state already has bent over in terms of financial resources to spend on a case?
We already know Democrats are going to promote leftwing authoritarianism when they are in power. That is going to happen regardless of what the DOJ policy on civil asset forfeiture is.
Can you cite one example of the pro-MAGA Sessions-led DOJ abusing the policy to screw over an innocent private civilian?
BTW this sure makes it sound like Trump supported the policy.
https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/attorney-general-sessions-issues-policy-and-guidelines-federal-adoptions-assets-seized-state
“As any of these law enforcement partners will tell you and as President Trump knows well, civil asset forfeiture is a key tool that helps law enforcement defund organized crime, take back ill-gotten gains, and prevent new crimes from being committed, and it weakens the criminals and the cartels.

Remember this Executive Order?
https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-blocking-property-persons-involved-serious-human-rights-abuse-corruption/
When you combine that EO along with the DOJ policy on civil asset forfeiture it always struck me as two policies meant to reinforce one another to drain the Swamp.
