Ok, wow - that Alabama-Georgia brawl convinced me that Georgia may well be one of the top four college teams in the country. It also convinced me that Oklahoma will be a more entertaining entrant in the College Football Playoffs. With last year's Championship game collapse and yesterday's SEC Championship loss, Georgia has had two bites of the apple - let Alabama beat someone else for a change.
And no more Ohio State - they might be able to beat anyone but they can surely lose to anyone. Show me Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
We'll find out soon enough. High Noon, roughly.
Go Raiders!
And don't come back! :)

Why is it so complicated?
8 team playoff. Champions of the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC, PAC-12, Big East (?), and two at-large picks (with priority going to an unbeaten team not from one of those big 6 conferences).
I truly don't understand why they don't just do that? It eliminates much of the controversy - win your conference and you're in, and you get an outside shot at sneaking in if you're Georgia and can't manage it but are still a top-5 team.

Probably a good thing I am not particularly into college sports apart from teasing beasts or steph. As it was I was in the kitchen making crabcakes for a very hungry family as UGa blew it.
I have good friends though who are likely traumatized today. The really interesting thing about the rivalry is that the Georgians who go to bama are those unable to get in GA because it requires such high grades and test scores. It makes for a very interesting and expensive dynamic as locals prefer out of state tuition to still get sec football vs getting the hope scholarship at a non-sec in-state university.

Especially since that means more cheddah in the pockets of the NCAA and the Us, JamesD, and we know that's pretty much what college ball is all about.

Getting into a Div1 or Div2 school is a little more complicated for a student-athlete than people think. For example, the GPA on your high school transcript is not used by the NCAA to determine eligibility. The NCAA schools use their own calculation to determine the GPA from core courses they provide, that is then used on a sliding scale measured with your SAT or ACT score.
The higher the GPA the lower the SAT or ACT score needed. Its the reverse for lower GPA, they need higher SAT or ACT scores. Calculated GPA's below 2.3 are "Red Shirt" only.
They use a worksheet for both Div1 and 2 to calculate GPA's. For example. in 9th grade English you scored an A. You need 4 years of English which is given a coefficient of .5. (.5 X 4 for the A) is 2 Quality points. So every mandatory subject and years taken are calculated for quality points. You need to have a caclculated core course GPA above 2.3 with an SAT of at least 890.
Core courses are 4 years English, 3 Years Math with at least Algebra 1, 2 years Science, 2 years Social Sciences, 1 Additional year of either Math, English, Science of Social Science, then 4 more elective subjects. Many a kid who took honors or AP courses can't meet the core course requirements because they didn't accumulate the core course scores.
Since Frederick is looking at Division 1 schools, and participating in Div 1 athletics I have done all this research. I have more if anyone is curious. For example, how you keep your eligibility once in school.

Speaking of O$U, I'll never forget when Clark Kellogg was going there and just happened to get his insurance license and sold a million dollar life insurance policy to whichever high roller Galbraith was a major contributor to the program. They even wrote it up in the Plain Dealer as a credulous tribute to young Clark's dedication to hard work. We were howling about it at the third rate electric utility.

James D, you probably know much more about it than I do, but I always thought college football rankings and seedings were at least in part decided by votes of sports writers. Like baseball Hall of Fame elections. I can imagine that college football programs would be "recruiting" sports writers like they do high school prospects. The sports writers are VIPs! They, or whoever gets to cast that vote, won't want to give up the prestige that goes with voting.

Good Morning from me and Ray Charles!
Clarice's Piece highlights the question of why hasn't Trump appointed a new Attorney General. Who do you guys think Trump should appoint? I can't think of anybody I trust. I no longer trust Trey Gowdy to get in there and punch back. Nor Chris Christie. Guiliani's lost too many steps. Lindsay Graham 2.0 is too valuable heading the Senate Judiciary Committee and he's still Lindsay Graham. And anyone I can think of I'd like to see in that position like Mark Levin would never have the slightest chance of passing a confirmation hearing. So I'm back to "Beats me?" So who can he trust and who should he appoint?
I suppose my current pipe-dream is that Trump should take a page from JFK and appoint his Sister, the upstate New York Judge---if nothing else that'd blow the minds of everybody in the Media and in Congress that I hate. How's that for some 4 D Chess?

By the START of sophomore year, you must:
have a cumulative GPA of 1.8
have completed 36 units
By the END of sophomore year, you must:
declare a major
By the START of junior year, you must:
have a cumulative GPA of 1.9
have completed 72 units (40 percent of your total degree requirements)
By the START of senior year, you must:
have a cumulative GPA of 2.0
have completed 108 units (60 percent of your degree requirements)

John Galbreath and Mrs. Buckeye's cousin Governor/Senator John Bricker were childhood best friends.
They grew up together in Mt. Sterling and were close all their lives.
Mrs. Buckeye has memories of Bricker taking her and her sister to Darby Dan farm to check out the racing horses. She thought Galbreath was a nice old man.

He actually strikes me as being intelligent enough to keep his grades where they need to be.
Everybody thinks he will enter the draft next year, so I think the 2019 season will be a "rebuilding" year. Particularly since many of the defensive starters are Seniors.

Interesting, Buckeye.
Jack, I'm sure each school has ways of dealing with those requirements, like the Tarholes getting their wrists slapped for out and out violations of them but they pinky swore never to do it again. Tutors are provided, which is only right considering they're representing the school while traveling a great deal, and online courses exist, to single out two legit examples. I'm not sure the dumb jock blanket indictment is so legit after watching some of those defensive schemes over the last few seasons. It might not be book learnin' but it has a spatial component that you're not born knowing.

Morning Miss Marple,
Just read your link from Reuters on Macron's AGW Tax Protests: France's Macron learns the hard way: green taxes carry political risks
It has to be intentional that all these Press stories about countries failing to reduce their Carbon Output never mention that the only country succeeding in real Carbon Reduction is America. You'd think that if we had a Press with a shred of honesty that'd be something they'd want readers to know, but obviously we live in a world ruled by a dishonest Press.

Every high school counseler Frederick has had gives them the same info, I wrote above. At his summer school this year there were a lot of kids with Div 1 commitments trying to up their math, english and science grades so they could make eligibility. I know that it seems like they find ways around these issues but from all my discussions with the NCSA representatives who are guiding Frederick, they are getting very picky.

It's impossible to overstate just how important that missed field goal by Georgia was last night. Being down by three scores late in the game is huge compared to two, plus there was the psychological lift of finally having got a stop on a team that had been scoring almost at will.
Maybe the Dawgs would've blown it anyway but even I don't think they're that resourceful

I agree with that FG miss, CH. The camera panned to Coach Saban after the miss and the tension left his face. And the bench erupted.
It was one way the Dawgz let Bama stick around and then get up off the deck.
The other difference maker was a Tua completion on 3rd down to a receiver ALL ALONE on an out route some 20 yards downfield. ALL ALONE.
It kept Bama on the field and, IIRC, led to Bama's 3rd TD. A stop, say by breaking up the pass play or forcing a throw out of bounds-- not giving Tua all day to complete it or find the obviously open guy, would have given the Dawgz one more possession perhaps to make up for that miss.
It was the Dawgz game to lose. I was impressed a little bit by their QB. But when it mattered he couldn't close by continuing to keep Bama off the field and out of rythm.
GO IRISH!

Some of the pre-war Alfa's are incredibly beautiful. People forget that Enzo Ferrari was their race team leader. I saw one of his racing Alfas at Monterey a few years ago with Nuvolari's name painted on the door. ver here, I think Alfas are underrated, but the Guilietta drove like a dog in the 70's.
Time magazine, I must say, has exquisite timing. France is a large country and people need too get around, especially to Spain on 1 Aout. As they are here in sunny Calipornia, government thinks that they can dictate how we live and so far they have been able to. Unfortunately here the ignorant masses don't even realize they are screwing themselves six ways from Sunday and government keeps on putting in and subsidizing mass transit that will only go bankrupt more rapidly as the losses mount.
maybe if the Gilles Jaun can trim Macron's oefs, someone will get the idea to block the intersection of the 405 & 10 some Friday afternoon.

Beginning to reap some benefits from breathwork routines throughout the day, simple but effective deep, slow breathing techniques applied for a minute at a time throughout the day.
Also beginning to value what my GrandMaster during my years of black belt training used to say: "If everyone had to pay a nickel for each breath they took, then they'd breathe a whole lot better than they do right now."
It makes a difference. The first step toward valuing breathwork, a newly begun practice with my resident Yogini-- Mrs Kid---was back during heart rehab where an occ therapist monitored my routines here at home 3 hours a week. She documented how often i was performing routine tasks WITHOUT BREATHING, aka HOLDING MY BREATH.
I still catch myself doing that. But it is less and less. Now i am catching my self getting by with shallow breathing.
Long way to go but i am already enjoying the ride.

The fact that MBS is relaxing all kinds of cultural rules, and improving relations with Israel, is all part of a liberalization which I am sort of shocked to actually see being implemented. He has a lot of opposition inside the house of Saud from brothers, cousins and uncles. Its good he has the military on his side, so far.

He said he has been busy non-stop and has done over a hundred calls since the quake and has hardly had a lick of sleep. That is going to win lots of good feelings.
And while he was hear the doorbell rang and it was the US Post Office delivering packages on Sunday!!! I love this place:)

KK - They have quite a selection there. They are small and you order individually so you can try several. I had a redfish one, a fried shrimp, and (after tasting my son's) a pork belly. All were delish!

"Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (Wash.) joined the migrant caravan on Saturday in their attempt to cross the border, condemning President Donald Trump for "creating the crisis." She said she was able to help five asylum seekers gain access to the United States. "I was able to successfully assist 5 asylum seekers – 2 unaccompanied minors, a mother and her 9 year old child, and a young man with a serious medical condition – into the United States," she wrote in a tweet."
Didn't we used to check legal immigrants for health issues before letting them off the ships at Ellis Island?

US Congress rep violating federal law. Arrest that scab immediately under the Patriot Act.
No quarter for US "protestors?" Any law the Left doesn't like they act as if it is "unjust."
This isn't the Ghandi salt protest against the Brits, Prammy, or whatever the hell your name is.

Won't come close to that 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that got auctioned off for $48.5 million. I understand it was owned by the 15th employee of Microsoft who bought it a few years back for 1/10th the price. Great investment.
