Wow! Oneth!

Narciso79

The piece on general Flynn left most of the relevant info out, quelle surprise

sbwaters

Jane, I can carry on a cogent half hour discussion with my 97-year-old mother on world, national, and family affairs. . .

... and in the same visit other things slip entirely from her mind.

The good news is that she is acute enough to realize how much of her remembery is declining and can retain good spirits about it.

Ralph L

Do we know how McDougal came forward? Maybe I should rephrase that.
Was Trump involved at all in the purchase of her story by the NE?

Jane

Still alive OL. What did MYL say? I will say every muscle in my body aches. I must have fought back quite a bit when I was under.

Ralph L

The good news is that she is acute enough to realize how much of her remembery is declining

Alas, my father doesn't, and he never believes anything I tell him. Because it isn't Alzheimer's, he can still do many things for himself, but his thirsty switch is broken so it takes work to keep him hydrated.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

So, is Allen Weisselberg gonna testify that Cohen paid the bimbos off with campaign funds, at Trump's order?

Because that would be the only campaign finance issue that I can see would jeopardize Trump.

Other than that, can't Trump pay whatever he wants to to sluts to keep that info quiet, even during a campaign?

peter

I’ll be joining the JOM surgical club in a few minutes. Those of you who are inclined to say a prayer feel free. Prostate issues Yuck

Texas Liberty Gal

sbwaters - I love that phrase “slip from her mind”. I’m going to start using it when I can’t remember something. Sounds so much better then the over used “I forgot”

Narciso79

Prayers for you Peter,

I don't see how that would be, fd he wouldn't have been in charge of the campaign account.

Texas Liberty Gal

Prayers peter!!!!

Prayers for you peter, cya soon.

I read at AoS that Huber won't appear before Congress today. The Jeff Sessions tradition of doing nothing continues.

Old Lurker

Jane, no answer yet from YL2. She is on nights at Bos Childrens' this rotation so is always exhausted.

Good luck, Peter. Please advance the science for the rest of guys.

Prostate issues

Been there. Done that.

Peter, you are welcome to email me at the name I have for typepad added to [at sign]rny.com if I can be of assistance.

Assuming you elected for removal, ask your doctor about keeping a pill or two of Myrbetriq handy.

My doctor never said that the bladder could go into painful spasm in the middle of the night that brought me to my knees and scared the sh*t out of my wife.

Easily handled with an immediate oxycontin and never returned after Myrbetriq.

Peter, please write if I can help you with what to expect and about recovery.

Surgery was the correct decision for my case, six years ago. Didn’t want to do it. Glad I did it.

Best wishes for successful surgery!

Not that complicated.

So the farm bill legalized hemp, orange drink has been busy.

Old Lurker

Jane "Apparently every man gets prostate cancer"

Our doctors say "most men older than X die with PC, but most of them do not die because of it".

Old Lurker

Jane again! "She loves to fight and it gets ugly fast. "

Started watching "Shetland" on Netflix last night. Opens with an old lady getting killed. As the investigation proceeds, they are interviewing all the family members in the small town where this happened.

Greatest line in a long time, when one relative says "She could pick a fight in an empty room".

Jane

Yup, that's what I've heard too.

Old Lurker

All true, Iggy, and we love him anyway.

Narciso79

Hes focusing on the gulf states (Sans qatar) and Israel, rather than russia.

Extraneus

There was a study done, I believe in Chicago in the 70's, where they sent the prostates of all autopsied men for analysis. I believe this was done over a period of around 10 years, and thousands of prostates were analyzed.

Cancer was found in something like 30% of men in their 40's, 40% of men in their 50's, etc. I forget the actual numbers, but they were surprisingly high.

Most prostate cancers are not dangerously aggressive, and something called a Gleason score is used to assess the cells taken from biopsies.

Good luck, Peter!

Captain Hate

So as the curtain goes down on another Failure Theater we get:

1. A bloated Farm Bill
2. No border wall
3. No Huber testimony (does he even exist?)
4. Mueller chugs on uninterruptedly

And people wonder how the GOP lost the House?

Old Lurker

On this "signal to noise" thing.

I know it is true and has been for a while, but sometimes there just is not much signal to be had. We come here anyway because we like each other for the most part, and since we don't have to, we are each here because we get more out of it that it costs us. But when there really is not much signal in the ether, all we have left to do is pick fights with each other.

The absence of signal, since the signal we all crave is to set our country back on a good path, is incredibly frustrating for all of us, and we each express that in our own special way.

A wise man observed that we know where each of us tethers our goat.

Threadkiller

Mike Gallagher is saying that the Flynn meeting in the Whitehouse was recorded. He keeps using the term "wire tapped" to describe how it was recorded.

I'm in Wait 'n" See mode on most of the Flynn revelations, but the several things I have read didn't mention a surreptitious recording.

Is this true? When does the date of Rosenstein "joking" about wearing a wire fall in relation to the Flynn meeting?

Barbara

Peter,

My best wishes and prayers for success today are headed your way.

The Infamous Ignatz

The other day had a friend use an aphorism I hadn't heard before;

Shetland needs to be binged. I watched it weekly on PBS, and you have to work so hard to understand the accents that you don't retain the plot well. It's bad enough when they stretch a detective show over 2 weeks, but 6?!

The Infamous Ignatz

It's interesting to consider the gradual reversal of roles [or in Julia Roberts' case, holes] over the last few decades.

Don't trust anybody over 30, question authority and all that other 60s crap has now become trust implicitly the CIA and the FBI, trust the Special Prosecutor, above all, the Cartmenesque, do not question our authority.

Just as interesting is the difference in the change in the "right's" roles. Since the right is not an ideology there was never the blind allegiance to authority inherent in progs so the shift has been a much smaller one from its nice to see the law being enforced to why the hell can't the law be enforced?

Extraneus

True. I know a guy who had a prostate reduction, which gave him great relief, although I never asked what from.

Somehow Gab never quite generated the critical mass to take out Twitter.

But on Insty and other places there is news of a new app that is making inroads: Parler.

"According to the Daily Caller, an App called “Parler News” has seen a surge in users in such a short amount of time, the majority of them looking for free speech alternatives ...

produced to the OIG) the text message on August 8, 20 I 6, from Page to Strzok that stated, "He's not ever going

The Stigma Against My Conservative Politics Is Worse Than The Stigma Of Being Gay

jimmyk

Best wishes, peter.

I can carry on a cogent half hour discussion with my 97-year-old mother on world, national, and family affairs. . .

I can too, with my almost 92-year-old mother, but I really don't want to, since her views are more like those of Jane's mom, and family affairs are dysfunctional.

Dad is turning 97 on Sunday, no real hope of great conversation there, partly because he's pretty forgetful, partly because he's hard of hearing.

Captain Hate

From Iggy's link:

Even though Trump signed the agreement, both houses of Congress must ratify it. If enough Republicans hold out, they can demand the White House remove Article 19.17. Doing so will not serve as a poison pill for the entire treaty. U.S. negotiators proposed and advocated Article 19.17, so Mexico and Canada will not pull out over any changes to it.

At a bare minimum, Congress should change the treaty language so it mirrors existing federal law, and note that they do not intend for the treaty to change any legal precedents already established in this area.

The Infamous Ignatz

--Ig, that provision is current law.--

From the article;

Adam Candeub, an internet and telecommunications law professor at Michigan State and former Federal Communications Commission attorney, noted in an article for RealClearPolitics that this language was not meant to enable Facebook, Twitter, or Google to censor whatever they arbitrarily find “objectionable.” He points to several federal court cases that held “otherwise objectionable” must be interpreted as being similar to the obscenity, violence, and harassment, which doesn’t allow viewpoint discrimination.

However, the agreement changes the law to let tech companies remove whatever they find “harmful or objectionable.” According to Candeub, these changes will “likely lead courts to interpret it to mean whatever the platforms object to — which has thus far included the word ‘illegal alien,’ pro-life advertisements, videos defending ‘Israel’s Legal Founding,’ and President Trump’s own immigration advertisements.”

The Infamous Ignatz

Funny, in the article my quote occurs immediately before CH's. Read from the bottom up. :)

henry

this language was not meant to enable

it isn't enforced that way now.

I recently filled out a survey sent by the major professional organization I belong to, the purpose of which seemed to be to sniff out feelings of discrimination on the part of women and LGBTQs. Looks to me like that change will align the powers the EU has given to the media platforms in the name of 'media literacy' to supposedly combat Fake News and Hate Speech.

I have commented before the definition of Fake News defers to the source, not the veracity of the information. So if WaPo or NYT or broadcast networks dispense provable inaccurate narratives it is NOT Fake News. If I wrote documented posts as a blogger that are accurate in every detail that can still be characterized as Fake News because it is not an approved source.

I even asked the head of cnn and an NYT reporter if my interpretations of the definitions of Fake News were correct and they agreed it is about the source.

Full text, WSJ editorial:
The Flynn Entrapment
A court filing shows the ugly tactics employed by James Comey’s FBI.
By The Editorial Board
Dec. 12, 2018 6:55 p.m. ET
Of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s many targets, the most tragic may be former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The former three-star general pleaded guilty last year to a single count of lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. Now we learn from Mr. Flynn’s court filing to the sentencing judge that senior bureau officials acted in a way to set him up for the fall.
Not a rich man after decades in uniform, Mr. Flynn pleaded guilty to avoid bankruptcy and spare his son from becoming a legal target. Mr. Flynn’s filing doesn’t take issue with the description of his offense. But the “additional facts” the Flynn defense team flags for the court raise doubts about FBI conduct.
The Flynn filing describes government documents concerning the Jan. 24, 2017 meeting with two FBI agents when Mr. Flynn supposedly lied. It turns out the meeting was set up by then Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who personally called Mr. Flynn that day on other business—to discuss an FBI training session. By Mr. McCabe’s account, on that call he told Mr. Flynn he “felt that we needed to have two of our agents sit down” with him to talk about his Russia communications.
Mr. McCabe then urged Mr. Flynn to meet without a lawyer present. “I explained that I thought the quickest way to get this done was to have a conversation between [Mr. Flynn] and the agents only. I further stated that if LTG Flynn wished to include anyone else in the meeting, like the White House Counsel for instance, that I would need to involve the Department of Justice. [Mr. Flynn] stated that this would not be necessary and agreed to meet with the agents without any additional participants,” wrote Mr. McCabe in a memo viewed by the Flynn defense team.
According to the FBI summary of the interview—known as a 302—Mr. McCabe and FBI officials “decided the agents would not warn Flynn that it was a crime to lie during an FBI interview because they wanted Flynn to be relaxed and they were concerned that giving the warnings might adversely affect the rapport.”
We also know from then FBI Director James Comey that this was his idea. This is “something I probably wouldn’t have done or wouldn’t have gotten away with in a more organized administration,” Mr. Comey boasted on MSNBC this weekend. “In the George W. Bush Administration or the Obama Administration, if the FBI wanted to send agents into the White House itself to interview a senior official, you would work through the White House counsel, there would be discussions and approvals and who would be there. And I thought, it’s early enough let’s just send a couple guys over.”
If the goal was to set a legal trap, it worked. The two agents showed up at the White House within hours of Mr. McCabe’s call, and they reported in the 302 that General Flynn had been “relaxed and jocular” and “clearly saw the FBI agents as allies.” One of the agents was Peter Strzok, who is famous for his anti-Trump texts to his FBI paramour.
The FBI agents had seen transcripts of Mr. Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador that were “unmasked” by Obama Administration officials. The 302 says that rather than flag this and ask Mr. Flynn for an explanation, the FBI agents decided before the meeting that if “Flynn said he did not remember something they knew he said, they would use the exact words Flynn used, . . . to try to refresh his recollection. If Flynn still would not confirm what he said, . . . they would not confront him or talk him through it.”
Keep in mind the FBI’s counterintelligence probe into Russia and the Trump campaign was still secret. Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong in conversing with the Russian ambassador—it was part of his job—and he had no reason to believe he was in legal jeopardy. He initially claimed he misremembered what was discussed, which is more believable than that a highly decorated officer would lie to FBI officers he agreed to see without counsel.
Mr. Flynn’s lawyers are requesting probation and community service, though the facts suggest the judge should question the entire plea deal. Messrs. McCabe and Strzok have both been fired for misconduct, and their behavior reeks of entrapment.
If he does nothing else, President Trump has an obligation to former aides like Michael Flynn and to the public to declassify and disclose the FBI documents related to the FBI’s Russia probe.

Jeff Carlson in the Epoch Times:

Government Can’t Prove Wolfe Leaked Classified Carter Page FISA

The original Wolfe indictment noted the specific timing of one of Wolfe’s interactions with reporter Watkins:

“On or about March 17, 2017, Wolfe exchanged 82 text messages with Watkins, and that evening engaged in a 28-minute phone call with her.”

The first Page FISA is 83 pages in length, and contains one final signatory page. This led to speculation that Wolfe had leaked the original Page FISA application to Watkins, from whom it made its way to additional media.

Two problems exist with this theory. First, as pointed out by an internet detective, the indictment uses the word “exchanged” not “sent,” implying back and forth messages as opposed to a single series of 82 texts sent from Wolfe.

The second issue relates to the subsequent article written by Watkins, which focused on the identity of Page, but contained no disclosure of the underlying FISA.

This is what a Marxist politician sounds like when they have a brain, unlike the idiot from NY.

"Stacey Abrams may have lost the Georgia gubernatorial race this year – but she doesn't think her political career is over.

“Yes, I’m going to run again,” Abrams said when asked during Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Next Gen summit Tuesday, adding: “Stay tuned!”

She said she hasn’t yet decided what office she’ll seek next because she wants to avoid making “decisions out of anger.” She also said the next job should have a “mission” that aligns with her skillset.

“I care about policy,” Abrams said. “I’m driven by a commitment to justice, to ending poverty, to addressing social needs and using public policy as a tool to improve the lives around us.”

Good Morning. All the best,Peter.

So,yesterday I saw another road rage incident in a parking lot. I was rolling my grocery cart to the car and someone was backing out without looking. The old folks here don't know how to turn their necks. :) The driver almost backed into another car and the guy in the other car (window was rolled down) dropped the F-bomb. I gave him my mean mother look. I reached the car and started loading in the groceries. The guy drove by me and I heard him say,"sorry ma'am."

Reformed Muslim Suspended on Facebook For Criticizing Jihad

The original post, a video called “Jihad Bells,” was something Tawhidi posted every year. He captioned the video with, “I share this song every December because Jihadists and Islamic Extremists don’t like it.” Facebook called the post a violation of “our standards on hate speech.”

In his tweet, Tawhidi wrote, “To whom it may concern, Facebook has suspended me for 30 days for posting a video ridiculing Jihadists. Yes, that’s right. Facebook is protecting Jihadists from hate speech.”

He then tweeted a tongue-in-cheek statement, “I’m a Muslim Imam and Facebook is being racist towards Muslims by banning me. They’re targeting me personally and being Islamophobic. This is against basic human rights and all values of diversity and inclusion. They’ve offended me and Islam. (I love doing this to them.)”

When asked, Facebook had no response.

Twitter warned Tawhidi that his tweets were violating Pakistani blasphemy laws. Twitter’s legal team informed the Australian imam that a tweet calling for an investigation of extremism in mosques was a “possible violation of Pakistani law.” Tawhidi then tweeted, “Pakistan has no authority over what I say. Get out of here.”

Twitter also informed a few other outspoken critics of Islam that they were violating Pakistani law, including a Canadian editor, Anthony Furey.
