Trump wants $5 billion for a border wall and a symbolic win. Pelosi and Schumer will give him a fence, or a partial government shutdown. Resist!
I love Schumer's soundbite: "The public expects us to be even smaller and less reasonable than Trump and we won't disappoint them."
I may have misheard that. Probably not.
Let me see... Military is funded. Farm bill about to pass. That means a hodgepodge of wasteful spending might get shut down by Pelosi/Schumer [lack of] brain trust? Plus Trump will build the wall anyway?
Of course Trump wants to get tossed in that briar patch.

Here's what might get shut:
Though Congress did pass significantly more spending bills before the 2018 year-end deadline than in previous years, lawmakers still have seven appropriations bills to tackle before the year ends:
Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies
Interior, Environment and Related Agencies
Financial Services and General Government
Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies
Homeland Security
Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies
State, Foreign Operations and Related Agencies
The current continuing resolution for the agencies covered under these remaining seven appropriations bills expires Dec. 7.

Bret Baier and Dana Perino don't know how to react to the Oval Office kerfuffle. Tellingly, Perino brings up an NPR poll to show support for keeping the government open. (You may assume I am rolling my eyes.) Video is at link.

I was on vacation once when there was a government shutdown. I got into Yellowstone and a few other parks without paying as a result. Under Zippy, they locked the gates and did things like this:

Government shutdown=no funds, yet they brought in barriers and surrounded normally wide-open monuments, and put on guards to keep people out.

Not gonna do it.
Wouldn't be prudent.
This year I am going to pay zero attention to the government shutdown song and dance on the edge of the cliff until some vote at 3am.
That I can do.
I am also going to TRY to pay zero attention to articles written, even by good guys like Conrad Black, about how Mueller's got nothing, or that Trump will be in jail in 3,2,1 days.
That will be harder, but I am tired of being played like a yoyo on all these passionate, intricate, convoluted little skits.
Run the government well, or wreck it. Preserve individual freedom and liberty or hand both to the State. Control entry into the country or invite the world in to feast and to vote. Blame or Credit whomever you want. In the end, the people will get what they deserve from the Government they deserve.

It is like watching a tennis match from midcourt between two baseline sluggers.
One of my FAVs of all time is VDH but he too is only able to react lately (or is it act, I lost track of who had the serve?). His unique and penetrating ability to tie our present with comparable scenes from history is of great interest to me, but of zero interest to Progs.
By now it is hard to imagine how many more bad things they can say about Trump and his band, and frankly our defenses are as repetitive as their attacks.
Like many here, I am struck by how many of my own "friends" are set so firmly and blindly on the other side, and how immune they are to argument or logic from our side, that I am ready for the game to be called and a winner declared.

Posted by: daddy | December 11, 2018 at 04:08 PM
the "Resistance" and all of their deaf, dumb, and blind (politically) followers are occupying a dangerous set of ruins which will crumble in the end.
what i refuse to do is venture into their cover, their "safe space", in order to woo them in any way.
it's kind of like a marriage hurtling toward what is projected as a "nasty divorce" with one party unable to end it, while the other just plugs their ears, na-na-not listening style.
if the faithful party wants to interrupt the divorce with the person who obviously has self-image issues, the key will be to stop trying.
to continue trying might be "the right thing to do" according to the faithful one; but to the dissenter--- it only feeds their low self-image (which the Resistance is based on with their victim politics). It's a subconscious and stubborn reaction to the faithful one:"He says he loves me and wants to stay married to me. But how stupid is he to want to be with the likes of me?"
Stop trying to use reason and logic with the Resistance. They want a divorce. What they don't realize is that THEY need US. So walk like a duck. Realize that the truth will out. Even Hitler learned that. The world survived. Perhaps it even improved.
The folly of it all is that the Republic, due to its atrocious indebtedness is living on borrowed time. And if value-creating institutions and systems are on the bubble because of it, then just think: where the O'Cortex branch of the body politic is in this slow march to cataclysm?
They got nothin, but US.

More from our Amigo's south of the Border:
Due to changes by the DGAC (Dirección General de Aviación Civil), ad hoc flight permits into certain cities in Mexico now require that a copy of the pilot license accompany the permit request. Effective immediately, all pilots operating into Mexico must have with them a photocopy of their pilot license to be delivered, upon request, to the ramp agent upon arrival. Any pilot who does not have a copy of their pilot license on him or her upon landing, should be prepared to have their license taken and a copy made at the ramp.
Why is Mexico demanding documentation from individuals entering their country? Where's the humanity?

French Protests in Paris have occurred every Saturday for the last four weeks. These protests have turned violent and are expected to be widespread this coming weekend.
Your Safety and Security continues to be our top priority. All CDG layovers Friday through Sunday, 14-16DEC, will be relocated to airport hotels.
We realize that an airport layover is not your first choice, but these are extraordinary circumstances and the merits of staying out of the city are self-evident...

Kev, yes I knew what US you meant, and that is why I responded as I did. I consider "US", and the Constitution we live by and interact via, to be the single greatest resource we have. But a resource nonetheless that can, will, and always has been squandered by the left, with the precise results that Jimmy and I were listing.
Yes, the Left among us needs "US" but they don't realize that, don't care if they do, and will chop off our heads just as fast as the French did circa 1789 and South Africa these days. And with the same outcome.

as i see it, if i were to relegate my view of this mess as one of "i don't care", it would pre-empt me from saying the "Our Father" truthfully.
i'd reached "i don't care" once in my lifetime and it lasted for 18 years. worst choice ever. for me.
it isn't one i'll make again. ceding the field to the enemy isn't an option. and, since i'm not a sled dog i don't enjoy the inevitable view from the back of the team.

Also, the need for "US" is collective. Individually they just want to seize what they can. The wealth created by the productive class is a common property resource.

Here's the UK Daily Mail's story:
However, police said they were investigating a possible terrorism motive for the shooting and that a special anti-terrorism prosecutor was assessing the situation. French newspapers have reported that the suspect is a 29-year-old male who was said to be 'known to authorities' after what multiple sources have deemed as 'radicalisation'.
Le Figaro has reported that the suspect was due to be arrested on Tuesday morning for previous criminal acts, but was not at home when police arrived to arrest him.

But i see one major thing happening before anybody severs my head: a hot war of attrition right here in our backyards.
then we'll see who chops off whose.

((CH,exactly. Trump is an alpha. Pelosi is just a crazy old lady. Watch the video without the audio. She sits and flails her arms to make a point.))
The Dems just regurgitate political talking points & platitudes.
No real ideas or specifics....
They agree to "border security"...but not a wall, no stopping illegal immigration, no deportations, no arrests, not that, not that, not that.
They just want to use the words "border security" & have that count for something.

I notice that the media characterize the standoff as "Funding the wall is so important to the President that he's willing to risk shutting down the government."
And Nancy will have to explain why walls are immoral and why she still has a fence and a lock on the front door of her mansion.

A-mom, the idea of bringing cliff dwellers from the high rises in Rosslyn over the river into Georgetown has been bouncing around. "I mean, like, like" they already tried Streetcars and only the owners got rich off those lines.
But what they REALLY want is the reverse flow so that G'Town residents, who fought off having a Metro Stop back in the 60's NOW wish they had one and want the Gondola to save them the walk over Key Bridge and up the hill to get to the Rosslyn station.

Anonamom--Pithy but absolutely correct. Those dopes should try living in an average apt on an average salary in Europe and let us know how it goes. I read yesterday that if Germany and Sweden were states (and they are wealthy by European standards) they'd be the poorest states in the US.

Pelosi went into full spin mode and declared herself the winner over Trump.

welcome to the oldest struggle in the history of our Republic: congressional obstruction of executive authority.
however, in the case of this Wall binness--- Trump has taken an oath to protect the country as its commander in chief. the role of the senate is to advise and consent in the performance of said executive duties. the house negotiates the appropriations.
Chuck and Nancy are a hot air maginot line of obstruction.
go the military route and go around those two alpha hotels. explain that to your little media, bitches.
NO WALL! NO WALL! oh wait. where did that Wall come from? hey Chuck and Nancy, asks their base, haw cum daze a Wa?
shite heels. mop the floor with them POTUS. MAGA!!!

Reason Number 400 why I can't stand Daryl Issa:
FOX Host: ...but there was the other issue, of bias at Google. Mr Pichai says that "Google is not politically biased at all." That's what he said today under oath. Do you believe him?
Issa: Well I believe he believes it...
=================================
And Issa is supposedly on our side:( A 5 year old knows he's lying.
So this is why I don't want Meadows leaving the House to become Chief Of Staff. I don't think we can afford to take anymore Repubs from the House that actually have a backbone out of the House. We got so many damn squishes there now I'm surprised they haven't turned into a gigantic Amoeba.

Hilarious watching our opponents talk as if the #TrumpShutdown will reduce his soaring popularity in any way.
79% of Americans want border security. The only way to get that is to #FinishTheWall and everyone knows it.
#KeepDiggingDemocrats, you never learn. #TrumpEffect
