A dull blade is more painful. A sharp blade they feel nothing. (I was a paid guillotine operator for lab rats on summer in colleg. You want a clean cut so pain signals don't reach the brain, then better raw materials for opiate studies).

Typical NYT... nothing in flyover country matters. But any little thing in a big city of impotent libs and it "gets their attention."
New York Times World
@nytimesworld
It was the shattered glass and burned cars in Paris that got the attention of President Emmanuel Macron, but the Yellow Vest movement has welled up from hard-pressed towns in rural France.

James, I worked at the State Mental Hospital in St Louis for that gig. The rat cages were in the basement, and our lab was on the top floor of the inpatient residence wing. Every morning I rode the elevator with my "pet" rats. Patients would ask their names, and never noticed I never had rats on the elevator ride down.

Remember this, the biggest enemies of capitalism are capitalists. Free market competition is to the benefit of society, not giant corporations which seek monopoly.
So globalization and the accompanying central planning and regulation and the simultaneous manipulation of markets by central banks represents a perfect common cause of the authoritarian left and co-opted capitalists seeking safe harbor from real competition.
IOW, fascism.
So now they're surprised when the working stiffs, who as always get the shaft when the left comes calling and especially when the left makes a deal with their supposed enemies in the boardrooms, take to the streets and start electing people who promise to dismantle what the progs and monopolists have built on their backs.
The central banks have shoveled vast sums to the fat cats. Vast sums that do not reflect actual wealth creation stemming from free markets, but fiat wealth that is a zero-sum game because it misallocates resources away from productivity increases which is how working stiffs become wealthier and to asset hording which does the opposite and creates a closed loop from which the non rich are excluded.
It's of little consolation to the working stiff that this insane cycle can't continue but it can't.
Last time it ended we had a world war or two.
This time? Hmm....
We do know this; they'll be shocked again when everything blows up because for sure this time it was different and the mandarins really did know what they were doing.
Morons.

And then there's this appalling (but totally unsurprising) story from Seattle:
https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2018/12/02/seattles-police-become-enforcers-antifa/
You know, if we had a Justice Department that actually, you know, cared one bit about the rule of law, they'd come down like a ton of bricks on the Seattle PD, and the whole city (and state) government. And there'd be prosecutions of these "antifa" terrorists for a whole boatload of charges, from, you know, terrorism, to civil rights violations, to RICO, you name it.
But of course we won't see that, and these animals will be allowed to run free until they actually do kill somebody (or a lot of somebodies).

The neverTrumpers fall into a few categories:
1. People who are jealous because they either didn't win or who are mad they backed the wrong guy and who will not be an insider.
2. Active GOP subversives like Kristol who want to destabilize the Trump presidency because they really are working for the left.
3. People who have a financial stake in globalism.
I see NO ONE who has principles. Trump is running a pretty conservative presidency, and has kept his promises. The economy is doing well, and we are under much less danger of war than 2 years ago. The military is being strengthened. What is there to complain about, except the feckless GOP foot-draggers in Congress?
These people don't care about the country - just themselves.

Iggy 9:20. Read it. Memorize it:
"Remember this, the biggest enemies of capitalism are capitalists. Free market competition is to the benefit of society, not giant corporations which seek monopoly.
So globalization and the accompanying central planning and regulation and the simultaneous manipulation of markets by central banks represents a perfect common cause of the authoritarian left and co-opted capitalists seeking safe harbor from real competition."
a) that is always true. Scorpions are scorpions. b) the reason Capitalism has worked so damn well in the US and thus our impact on the entire planet is that the "force of nature" which seeks monopoly (as water seeks a lower level) has always been offset here by a) the sanctity of private property (and fruits of an indivdual's labor and mid) owned by the individual and individuals alone (Liberty & Freedom), and b) the bookend that preserves that: The rule of law and the equal and certain application of it as understood and accepted by the population.
What happens when one or the other is removed, then you have exactly what Iggy describes.
It is a "duh" thing that used to be common knowledge in the US.

New @CIS_org report bolsters @realDonaldTrump effort to limit green cards for non-citizens on welfare.
I haven't followed this issue, so maybe I'm misunderstanding. But I presume this relates to legal residents, not illegals. Don't green cards make it easier for them to work? I've always favored sending immigrants back to their country of origin if they are on welfare, but I wouldn't want to put obstacles in the way of their finding jobs.

I also assume that the reason the Uniparty Establishment never performed an audit of the Pentagon in the past is because they wanted to make sure these corrupt deals that enriched a lot of people who then paid off a lot of politicians were swept under the rug.

henry,
For some time there has been discussion in certain circles about how many people would be arrested, the howls from the left, hysteria from media, riots, etc.
Many people (Wictor was one of them) thought temporary martial law would be the only way to prevent total chaos.
I don't know if there is another way, IF the numbers of people in jeopardy are as large as some believe.
Yes, it could be a recipe for totalitarian rule. Trump has shown no signs of trying to bypass the Constitution, so I assume that it will not be long.
As I said before, the evidence has to be overwhelming AND it has to be of crimes that people instinctively find repugnant. Otherwise, we will have civil unrest and all sorts of unpleasant stuff.
For those who want the criminals prosecuted, this may be the only way to do it. Anyone who has a better answer, please step forward. I sure don't.

NYTimes:
He's Built an Empire, With Detained Migrant Children as the Bricks
The shelter industry was poised to explode. Tens of thousands of migrant children began crossing the border without family members, more than ever before. Southwest Key, with its 15 shelters, became one-stop shopping for new beds. The government needed Southwest Key and Mr. Sanchez's can-do attitude; he and his team worked closely with Obama officials to set up shelters.
"There were just kids all over the place," Mr. Sanchez recalled. "The federal government got embarrassed."
Southwest Key opened eight shelters in 2013 and 2014. These were no longer small group homes, the kind envisioned by advocates. They were large institutions, with room for 236, 300, even 420 children.
"It clearly had gone through enormous growth, and I think some of the growth was without a lot of scrutiny," said Mr. Carey, appointed head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement in April 2015.
Conservative critics said Southwest Key wasted taxpayer dollars and coddled illegal immigrants. In 2014, Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, criticized the charity for requesting $316 per child per day from the federal government for a California shelter that had an organic garden and a petting farm with miniature ponies.
As the shelters multiplied, so did executive pay. Mr. Sanchez earned $279,000 in 2012, and $682,000 in 2015. His wife earned $123,000 in 2012, and $275,000 in 2015.
…
The biggest of those deals was the shuttered Walmart in Brownsville. Mr. Sanchez worked closely with the Obama administration to develop a shelter that could absorb an influx of children.

From the Paul Sperry article:
In the end, neither Putin nor any Kremlin official was directly involved in the scuttled Moscow project, sources say. Moreover, neither Cohen nor Trump traveled to Moscow in support of the deal, as Sater had urged. No meetings with Russian government officials took place.
It was Sater, a Russian immigrant with a checkered past, representing the Bayrock Group and not the Trump Organization, who came up with the tower project idea in 2015. His pitch had more to do with branding than real estate: Trump would lend his name to the tower project and share in the profits, but not actually build it or go into debt for it.
I still think Sater was a DOJ/FBI asset compelled by Loretta Lynch to initiate this business deal with Trump so that early in the campaign the Obama administration had a method to spy on Trump without having to get a warrant. Since Sater was a convicted felon and confidential information for the FBI, the Feds could legally monitor all of his communications with anyone.

a) the sanctity of private property (and fruits of an indivdual's labor and mid) owned by the individual and individuals alone (Liberty & Freedom)
Reminds me of Rothbards "Crusoe Economics"

Daddy, how many people know the Richter Scale is logarithmic?
How many people know what that even means?

Rush in his Hour 1 opening monologue recites the point many here have been making---the phony current adulation by the MSM of Bush 41, whom they hated, in order to diminish Trump by comparison.

My estimate of "100" coup crooks works out to about one per US Attorney.
Each USAtty could have 20 FBI agents assigned to his target and that would still leave 11,000 Special Agents available for regular work.
No Martial Law necessary.
Just people doing the jobs they swore to do, with a bit of Executive Direction, Management and coordination.

If used, the DoJ has all the tools required to arrest, try, convict, and jail ALL of the leaders, and their Generals, and their main storm troopers.
Is civil asset forfeiture one of those tools?
Knowing that leftist Communist/Progressive billionaires like Soros, Steyer, etc are funding anti-American/pro-Marxist organizations like ANTIFA to destroy American society, would it be ethical to charge them with treason and sedition and seize their financial assets that are bankrolling anti-American subversion?

OCASIO-CORTEZ TRIES TO RAID PENTAGON’S ‘UNDOCUMENTED’ FUNDS TO COVER MEDICARE FOR ALL
One problem: the number describes transactions, not spending.
...
Etc.

Henry "OL, does it go to 11? that's the important part."
Don't I have to look on the back of my slide rule for that range, Henry?

Yes, MM. I assumed you "Rocks" students knew that.
Heck. At you age and mine, why, we were taught all about Logs in what, 10th Grade? Remember those tables in the back of the book?

would it be ethical to charge them with treason and sedition and seize their financial assets that are bankrolling anti-American subversion?
Without question.
More than that - it is unethical, and a betrayal of the American people, and the Constitution, NOT to do so.

We don't use Richter any longer in seismic engineering. I think it was back in the 70's when it was replaced by the Moment Magnitude Scale.
I believe USGS uses only the MMS now.
